You can really tell where Chef would've shined in episodes following his death. If he was still alive and played his usual charming self as a special sort-of parental figure to the boys, which like none of the regular adults come close to matching, they could've had the potential to be even better. There could've been some unforeseen character development with Stan, Kyle, Cartman or any of the other boys, which would only come around because they'd still have Chef as a mentor to help them grow up and understand life better than how they would with their own parents who mostly just instil bad motives or outright fail at good parenting. Hell Trey and Matt even discussed this briefly in commentary for the episode "The List", saying that Chef could've been a much better substitute than the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. While I share the sentimental desire to have Chef return in some way, I don't think it would be a feasible concept at this point. What I think could actually be done is introduce a long lost relative or descendant of Chef; what if he had an illegitimate son that we hadn't heard of? It could make sense considering Chef did get around with a lot of women, and one of them he knocked up to where she had a child that they kept secret from everyone in South Park. It would be amazing if we had a new 4th grade student that was Chef's actual, secret son that embodied his father's spirit and act as an homage to Chef and how much of an impact he had. Isaac Hayes himself actually had a son Isaac Hayes III, who coincidentally is also a voice actor and has admitted that he may lend his talents to South Park to pay homage to his father if he was asked. He would be the perfect voice actor for such a character in a Paramount+ special if the concept ever came to be and if Isaac Hayes III was still willing.
Gotta remember trey and jeff were friends with hayes . They genuinely liked him as a person. The chef death was to mock the fact that he bailed on them hypocritically when they have mocked other faiths but i think a part of them still considers him a friend which is why they retired chef after he passed
Actually hayes son revealed that hayes never quit! He suffered a heart attack and was in the hospital and so scientologists quit on hayes "behalf". They took advantage of him being bedridden to force him to leave
@@Crusader316This. Blooms made a video about the whole SP vs. Scientology saga and added some background on this. We don't actually have much in the way of verified statements from Hayes himself regarding his departure, but we do have a fair bit of evidence that Scientology stepped in and manipulated his hospitalization to their advantage without his consent or awareness. It also seems plausible that they directly contributed to his death by interfering in his care after he left the hospital due to whatever woo they claim to believe.
Really ironic that I wanted something similar to that. Something where chef's long lost brother. Or maybe even a son who is the complete opposite of chef in some ways. Like how he thinks and someone doesn't like p c principal because of how he thinks chef, Used to be the most reasonable person in the whole show. So having somebody who has the same outlook but understands And see that p c principal isn't the speaker for all people, especially chef's race, not even chef himself, would perspect that.
Would totally be down for South Park to introducing a secret son that Chef had as a guest appearance in a new special. Chef definitely got around with lots of women and one of them he was bound to knock up, so that son we'd never heard of could be a 4th grader that comes to South Park and becomes friends with the boys; I'd love something like that!
This is a very well put together video, it strikes a balance that really works. One thing I loved about Chef is that Matt and Trey achieved something that shows similar to South Park rarely get right: creating a (somewhat) ‘normal’ character for the viewer to relate to in the whacky world of the show. A lot of TV shows with very outlandish, ridiculous and fun worlds and characters try to put in a middle ground character for the viewer to relate to. But what they get wrong is that they don’t give that character enough to make them actually seem a part of the world, so it makes them stand out in a bad way. That character then becomes annoying, because they’re not as fun as the other characters. Chef never had that problem. He was grounded enough to say “what the fuck?” in a messed up situation, but never said it so often or in a way that it became tiresome. I wasn’t expecting to agree this much with this videos points but you make alot of really good arguments man. Definitely gonna be binging your stuff for the next few days
I wonder what if isaac hayes never left south park I definitely would love to see apologises to Jesse Jackson with chef around and how they would've written chef off the show when isaac hayes died I think it would've been more emotional than return of chef because isaac hayes is one of the most important things about classic South park
They should bring back chef with a long lost child that grew up plot. You telling me he gets that much action and NEVER had a child. Would be interesting. Maybe said long-lost child could be the "replacement" chef
Hell yes, I've been thinking of something like that too! Through introducing an actual son that Chef had illegitimately, who was maybe kept secret from South Park (possibly like Cartman's father), it could shed light on more of Chef's past life before he came to South Park. Having a son who embodies his Dad's spirit be a 4th grader that becomes friends with the boys would truly be a sight to see and make for a fantastic and very intriguing Paramount+ special. I don't think bringing Chef back would be the right move, but rather someone related to him that keeps the essence of his character alive and pays homage to him and his late voice actor Isaac Hayes would be the most fitting way possible. Isaac Hayes' own son is actually a voice actor and could be the perfect choice for such a role, if he is ever willing.
@geobroproman739 I really like your idea, this could definitely be a special. Learning Issac hays son is a voice actor makes this even more of a golden opportunity.
Chef's dad changed the show Completely. The four boy became worse people since they don't have a mentor to look up too anymore, i mean- Stan has Randy, but he's an alcoholic with a childish personality.
The main boys became much more mature after a while in the later seasons, sure they still have their selfish moments every now and then but they at least don't bully other kids nowhere near as much as they did back in the early seasons
This is going to be a very touchy subject. I'm probably going to get a lot hate for this and it's sadly here to stay. But possibly Trey and Matt could go the AI route with Chef in the possible future when it's fully developed.
0:27 that's actually a really bad example to use because I can't stand the new voice actors for Rick and Morty for one and two no they cannot bring chef back without Isaac Hayes
I LOVE chefs parents. When his mama goes to change into the ceremonial garb and mumbles about the roast fucking kills me every damn time.

If they do it respectfully, they could do a whole "special event" about Chef's return.
Damn bro I didn't finish the video before I made my comment and you have the exact same idea that I did. Not storywise but with the special.

@dejus_e I can't give myself that much credit but if you can I'll take it 😂
If the Vaccination Special can bring back Mr. Hat, they can bring back Chef.
I wish Isaac Hayes's son Isaac Hayes III could voice a voice but he probably wouldn't care!
I remember seeing something about isaac Hayes son saying he would voice chef
that would be fucking epic dude fr
I wonder if Isaac' son would do it. Isaac Hayes III has been very open on what happened to his Dad.
