It’s two factors that make it suck now, the pacing got too fast within and between scenes and they turned the hero’s of the show into clowns in order to make sure everyone knows Rick is a dick not a hero. The new writers subverted the show just like everything else.
I 'member I binged Rick and Morty, then it was somewhere in maybe in the middle of season 2 or 3 I had this moment of....Why am I even watching this? this isn't that funny or original or deep. and turned it off and never went back.
The fandom kinda discourage me and some jokes or plotlines such as incest(naruto, beths) is concerning Rick and Morty started as Rick being depressed and lonely, he cared for his family(King jellybean incident), which currently is Rick being overcorny and with overgrown ego
Meta humor can be absolutely hilarious. We got Chowder, Gumball, Animanicas, etc. Rick and Morty is just the one show that does it wrong( and Velma). You can't just have the characters admit they are in a tv show you have to do something with it. One of the funniest 4th wall breaks I have ever seen came from Great Muppet Capper. Kermit and Miss Piggy are arguing in character then they break character and start arguing over Ms. Piggy's performance. This exchange is fantastic. Ms.Piggy: I'll have you know I'm playing a million emotions at once. Kermit: Well try to play one of them right. Also Meta jokes should be sprinkled in like salt you don't dump the whole container.
Ok... I accept that i will be getting some hate for this opinion comment. It just needs to be said. Of course season 7 is going to be lackluster, you are attempting to replace one of the key writers, voices, and more. Specifically with the first couple episodes... we don't hear the iconic burp-talk..we are competing with some out-of-the-box gems from the first couple seasons..we are inundated to the point of drowning in ultra-mega quality. However, concessions have been made (due to demand by fans, chief managements, and many more factors) to appease those who either cannot appreciate multiple entendres, cannot follow the more cerebral aspects and multiple dimensions of things like meta-humor/meta-commentary, hard science meets hard science fiction, self-referential recall, etc.) Hell... most viewers cant juggle the consideration of its many possibilities/theories. The truth is... it is still a phenomal work of art and entertainment. It has spawned a serious slew of similar shows, spinoffs, and success stories. And on a P.S. bring back Roiland. He was cleared..and he got skills. We would not even have the enjoyment of R&M or Solar Opposites and many more gems without him. We gotta start learning to forgive ppl. Its no different than me getting arrested for a small amt of marijuana over 2o yrs ago in H.S...and even tho it is now socially accepted and all but legalized, I still carry a stigma on my record. Ok... here is my soap box if anyone else needs to stand on it.
I honestly don't see why people bitch about Rick & Morty, every episode of every season is great. the show has only been getting better over the years. Idk what else people expect from the show, everything people complain about we end up getting
Its one of the worst cartoons I have ever seen. I watched most of season 1 and thought it wasn't funny at all. The characters rarely tell jokes or do anything remotely humorous. They mostly point out the absurdity of their current situation. I also dislike the dreary tone. Futurama blows it out the water. That show has actual jokes in it. If the later seasons I worse than season 1 it must have gotten really bad. Family Guy also has actual jokes in it too. I guess I prefer witty dialogue and physical gags over what Rick and Morty is trying to do.
Disagree on the central finite curve bit it just felt like a waste of time to set up overall with a very disappointing "payoff" if you can even call it that. I do agree that I didn't care for s7 that much though. Not that I liked s5-6 those were on a different level of bad.
the humor kills the show, ontop of the pessimistic nihilistic attitude of the show. plumbus isnt funny. none of the improvisational or impromptu humor is funny.
No disrespect, but that's an opinion not many share. Sure the plumbus was never one of my favorites or anything either, but many of the fan favorite parts are the improvised parts. There's a difference between not being funny and not being funny to you specifically
the problem with Rick and Morty is that the writers want to do single stories no consequences sliding time line simpsonsesq episodes ... but then they threw in a few serialized story lines and then just axed them out of no where.. Apocalypse Jerry getting taken out Rick prime final battle mid season with hardly any build up Evil Morty etc etc etc and then the writers think they are being slick by trying to shit on the shows fans in little dialogue blurbs what made Rick and Morty good in the first couple seasons was the perfect blending of the serialized story Evil Morty Apocalypse Jerry and Rick Prime the Galactic bug empire and the citadel of ricks... with the one off episodes as filler .. basically they acted like a virgin guy on prom night and blew their wad way too early .. also the whole on no Rick Prime killed my wife "made up" story being actually true .. that really screws up the time line .. cause if Ricks wife and daughter were killed by Rick Prime then how is there any Beths? or Mortys? it would be impossible .. they even mention in one episode that C-137 lives with an "ECHO" of their dead daughter.. the writers literally just rushed through the serialized episodes jus to get them out of the way and just kill off characters that could have given good story arcs ..
Couldn't have said it any better, thats what i've been thinking the last years, like choose a path. Its really sad how they throwed it away. At the end of the day those stories, that lore was the core of rick and morty, everything was based on that and it propelled the story, it gave it reason. Now its just an episodic sci fi comedy, its fun and enjoyable, but it has no heart anymore.
Those grown up beths were the ones who survived because they got abandoned by their father that accepted rick prime's offer to join the universal travel. Its not a mystery to solve, you just have to think about it.
No way is s2 overrated, one miss outta 10 is insane numbers. S3 is nowhere near comparable to 1 and 2 and is outclassed by every season from s5 onwards and s7 has way more than 4 good episodes. Otherwise this was a good video and excellent insight on rick and mortys public perception
This is just classic "I hyped shit up for myself, fucked up my expectations, and now the thing is not like I expect. It's totally my fault but be cause I'm a moron, I will now say the thing I overhyped is bad so I don't have to face my own stupidity" kind of deal. The show is good and was always good, even in bad time it's better writing than most. It may not be as good today as the first one was but also never forget the idiot studios always mess things up coz they're greedy idiots. So hating the show without knowing why or how is what 98% of people do and what this is as well...
Did you even watch the video, where he explicitly calls out that its overhated because the initial quality was so much higher than what it currently is, despite what it currently is being pretty decent? Like its 14 minutes long. Did you even think of understanding the conclusions of the video before this absolute word vomit of an uninformed comment?
I never found Rick and Morty to ever be bad at times (except for the letter episode) It was always funny, and I feel like most of the complaints are what make Rick and Morty Rick and Morty. I love the lore episodes, I love the meta comments, I love all of it.
it really isn't that bad, it just fell off really hard. season 2 set the bar pretty high. they had to keep that momentum going and they fumbled it in season 3. after that i feel like the show has had an identity crisis that they're just starting to recover from. the season 7 finale felt like a season 2 episode, as in it actually felt like the writers knew what they wanted to do and how to get it done.
I think seasons 4 & 5 are the worst. And 6 & 7, are in my opinion, where the show was able to somewhat regain its footing. And become, for the most part, a relatively good and consistent show.
The meta episode was really good, the final kinda meh and ego-scriptwriter, it feels like a season 1-2 episode but with a lot more quality, and it got the best moment to happen, when the meta jokes were starting to feel really tiring. Thinking about this episode, i kinda hate in R&M they make a joke and instantly jump to another joke, the show would really feel better with more space between.
I stopped watching Rick and Morty after season 3.
Think it was the same for me
It’s two factors that make it suck now, the pacing got too fast within and between scenes and they turned the hero’s of the show into clowns in order to make sure everyone knows Rick is a dick not a hero. The new writers subverted the show just like everything else.
I’m surprised this isn’t a more popular channel, your quality of video essay is really good.
4 and 5 sucked. 6 and 7 much better. But honestly, solar opposites is my jam now
Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty. Rick Rick Rick Rick...
Rick and morty was cool as a 14 year old when it came out. After over 10 years it’s still a show for high school freshmen
After years of avoiding the series I binge watched it last week and it's now my favorite show. Loved from episode 1-71.
I 'member I binged Rick and Morty, then it was somewhere in maybe in the middle of season 2 or 3 I had this moment of....Why am I even watching this? this isn't that funny or original or deep. and turned it off and never went back.
I respect your opinion because everyone's entitled to have one but not funny original or deep? That's a really bad take
I hope it was in 3. 1 and 2 were great.
Ywa idk if i wanna confinue

@13:12 Dude fuckin' nailed it. Great video by the way!
What's with the constant bloop noise in the middle? Made me think my cat was gonna throw up
I am glad this show finales reached it's downfall. And I am saying this as a former fan
