- Delivering Mail in My Gen 2 Prius. Been doing this for 8 years and love the job. Perfectly legal to drive from the passenger seat for mail carriers. Here is a link that verifies this: about.usps.com/postal-bulleti....

Just to clarify that driving from the Passenger seat is completely legal for USPS Carriers! 10,000s of Carriers in the U.S. do this everyday due to having to use their personally owned Vehicles. Some will install pedals on the passenger side or even a steering wheel. But those can be dangerous and fail... I've seen it happen more than once. Here is a link directly from the USPS official website that verifies all of this: about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2007/html/pb22219/info_013.html#:~:text=When%20using%20a%20privately%20owned%20LHD%20vehicle%20on%20the%20route%2C%20the%20rural%20carrier%20may%20operate%20the%20vehicle%20with%C2%ADout%20use%20of%20the%20seat%20belt%20and/or%20without%20being%20posi%C2%ADtioned%20directly%20behind%20the%20steering%20wheel%20provided%20the%20carrier%20determines%20it%20is%20safe%20to%20do%20so.
A very creative TH-cam video idea!
Appears you know how to do it well.
am i tripping
Hey as long as you aint doing no long way/highway driving i see no problem. I doubt the cops would feel the same way though 🤣
impressive !😵💫
Just curious. What year is your prius and did you have to remove parts of the center console? Split right now b/w a Honda Crv or Prius for my next pov. Neat video
Maybe a Quad-bike would be useful for this type of job. You have front and back placeholders where you place your boxes and don’t have to place at your lap. And it’s small enough to reach mailboxes or drive to narrow driveway.
this looks fuckin insane. wow!
Sheerr 👍
you should import a prius from japan, jdm rhd from factory
You should import a RHD car!
This is impressive. May i ask if you have replaced the hybrid battery on your Prius? does it consumes oil?
Yes I've replaced the Hybrid Battery with OEM NiMh and Project Lithium. Dumped Project Lithium a few months ago for OEM NiMh due to problems. I have an install video on my channel actually if you want to check that out.
Yeah it consumes oil... about a qt every 4-5k miles. Used to be a qt every 1k miles until I did a Berryman B-12 Piston Soak a couple years ago.
@@JoMophee I see. What kind of issues you were having with nexcell? cell balance issues?
Good to know man. How many miles your Prius has? and sure i will check the video later on.
@hedgehogthesonic3181 read about Project Lithium issues here: www.reddit.com/r/prius/comments/1bcafc0/my_project_lithium_battery_caught_fire_yesterday/kueyqco?context=3
There are serious issues with his Battery.
226k miles but have two other vehicles I drive for mail delivery as well. One is another 2008 Gen 2 Prius with 130k miles.
Ohhh i see, i will read that. thank you very much. I a few months back i was thinking on getting that battery, but now i know.
May i ask why do you have 3 vehicles for 1 job? is it just in case one has issues, you can't miss not going to work?
@@JoMophee
If one of my vehicles breaks down... then I don't have a vehicle to deliver mail with unti it gets fixed. Really I only need 2... but I bought a 2nd Prius to do expiriments for a low mpg mechanism that I think exists in the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Prius. You can see the preliminary video I made here about that: th-cam.com/video/_nX6We-Exus/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KfI3WPdQcuozIJld
I hope to have the full video out this Summer.
@hedgehogthesonic3181
you should get peddles on your side so you can react better in case of an emergency stop
i thought this is why USPS required right hand drive vehicles.... seems like someone told them one thing and did another to get the job.
just put the stuff on the right seat and sit on the driver seat
So you expect me to reach 3 ft to the other side of the vehicle when the mailboxes are on passenger side of the road? That's way harder than driving from the passenger seat... but some mail carriers using their personally owned vehicle do it how you described. Most of them are missing their passenger mirrors and their door is extremely damaged from all the mailbox lids hitting it. It's perfectly legal to drive from the passenger seat for Mail Carriers and is way more comfy for me being 6'3". It can be done from the driver's seat... but it's extremely rare and causes you to contort your body in much more painful ways.
There is a door on the driver side, you can grab a package and walk for 5 seconds
@@JoMophee
@@AtoriKushina yeah that's not how mail delivery works. 😂 Adding an extra 10+ seconds of getting out at every mailbox will add at least an extra hour of work a day... we don't get paid for that. Not to mention how dangerous that could be with traffic and what not.
@@JoMophee gotcha
then solve your problem without doing something illegal like getting a RHD vehicle@@JoMophee
Why not get a right hand drive car.
I like to have the space in my lap to work. Steering wheel gets in the way. Plus sprawling out with my left leg and left arm makes it easier to sit as I'm 6'3". Prius gets 40mpg while a RHD jeeps probably gets closer to 10. I bank about $20 more a day in gas savings using a Prius.
@@JoMophee fair enough but fyi there are rhd prius available.
That's idiotic
This has to be illegal
It is not illegal for mail carriers.
Import right hand drive car
Don’t endanger your own life and others for the sake of your own comfort while breaking the law in the process.
Get a RHD, build some kind of rig/arm to carry mail out to boxes or do the work to get out of car.
If you’re “too tall” or can’t afford a proper RHD vehicle, pucker up and find a new profession my man.
I'm am not breaking the law. This is perfectly legal for USPS Rural Carriers to do. 10,000s of carrier are doing this in the U.S. every day... you are just not aware. Been doing this for 8 years and 100,000's of miles... zero accidents on the job or otherwise driving in everything from floods to snowstorms.
Here's proof that what I'm doing is legal: about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2007/html/pb22219/info_013.html#:~:text=When%20using%20a%20privately%20owned%20LHD%20vehicle%20on%20the%20route%2C%20the%20rural%20carrier%20may%20operate%20the%20vehicle%20with%C2%ADout%20use%20of%20the%20seat%20belt%20and/or%20without%20being%20posi%C2%ADtioned%20directly%20behind%20the%20steering%20wheel%20provided%20the%20carrier%20determines%20it%20is%20safe%20to%20do%20so
You're not cool bro.
True bro.
@@JoMophee You are, just having to learn how to drive like that is cool af
