      Because it wasn't the same bang for buck, as the old one.
      It went from offering Ferrari like performance for half the moeny, to being priced like a Ferrari and being slower than a Ferrari.

      Why do you think revised versions of old cars like that are still being made? Because the community loved the old ones and supported both the company and the product. They better pay homage to what came before, because without it, the new version wouldn’t exist. A huge part of how these new versions can even remotely exist is purely because people love the old ones.

    I agree with you, this is a great car. My dad owned one of the originals back in the '90s and then one of the new ones, in 2017. He made some of the same statements you did, but he loved the fact that he could "daily drive" this car and you CANNOT do that with some of the supercars out now. The NSX is fast, and it was a ton of fun to ride in. Unfortunately, dad passed in 2020 and, since I can't drive, I don't think I'll be riding in one again any time soon, sadly. If my dad were still here I think he would agree with you about the infotainment system, but he was technology challened, but he didn't buy it for the infotainment, he bought it to drive it! RIP Pop!

      Sadly, I don't have either one. As for learning how to drive, until they let blind guys drive it is not going to be a possibility. Of the two that he owned, I would rather have the 2017 model. Having said all of this, and reading all the comments, I would still much rather own this car than any of the other super cars that are out on the market now. I think the quality is a lot higher, from what my dad explained to me I would think that the drivability is also a lot better.

    To be honest, I felt like no one gave this car the respect it deserved, and so it felt like the supercar just for me. My family owned an old Acura and every time we went in for servicing I always checked out the NSX in the showroom. I love the looks, I love the technology working behind the scenes, and I loved its message. I would root for it in GT3 races and choose it every racing game. Although I'm sad to see it end its production, I'm happy that it existed and that Acura cared enough to make the type s. It'll still occupy the top of my favorite car list, and I hope that the stars will align, and I can drive it one day!

    I'm sure you're right Doug. Just like the original Nsx, they hardly flew off the shelves when it was in production. But years later people finally realized how special it is, maybe ahead of the curve. People will probably lust for this car years from now when everything is like a whisper quiet golf cart.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The original NSX sold about 1200 units per year. The new one sold about 280 per year. On average.
      The original was subjectively good looking but certainly a simple elegant bargain. The new one I don't think looks as good, its also complicated and expensive.
      I think the thing that heard it most was the fact that it's just ugly. I know that's an opinion but I think that's an opinion shared by most would be buyers.

    • @acidgolem2132
      @acidgolem2132 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CalvinHikes the problem with the new nsx is that it does pretty much the same thing as what the original nsx in an era where nobody care about it anymore.
      The original nsx isn't even that good looking COMPARE TO IT'S COMPETITION back then, it was not fast compare to the competition back then but it offer reliability and comfortability that other supper car of the same era does not which make it as famous as it's currently.
      The new nsx pretty much does the same thing as it's predecessor but in an age where most supper car are already comfortable to ride, it doesn't really stand out as much.
      Also if we adjust for inflation, the new gen nsx is price on the same range at the old one so it's not even cheaper

Rappers, influences, rich pricks, etc don't ever stunt in a lexus or a acura/honda. It's always Raris, lambos, Mclarens, Mercs, Bimmers, etc. The only ones who care about these cars are Japanese enthusiasts, and there aren't enough of them. It costs around the same as a 992 Carrera 4S which is significantly slower to 60, slower over a quarter mile, and comparable in lap time (at worst) on any track.

    I concur with Doug, I think these cars are great, I just think they pulled a "horizon zero dawn" and released the new NSX during a flurry of supercar buzz, what with the huracan being new at the time, I believe an updated 488 was coming, and mclaren was really getting ramped up at the time prior to the 720. That, and we were still all particularly incensed about hybrid/electric stuff still.
    FWIW, I don't think this car disrespects it's legacy at all, and I'm a honda guy. The original NSX is hailed as an incredible analogue driver's experience, which it is, but that's only from the relative viewpoint of our power-everything crossover world today. Back when the NSX was new, it probably seemed like just as much of a spaceship, computer-on-wheels type car as this one seems to us. Hell, NSX stands for "New Sportscar, eXperimental." So we know they weren't going for something traditional. I think the legacy of the car is exactly experimentation with technology.

      I agree. The purpose of the nsx is innovation and experimentation. It did so at the time of the original nsx and by just doing the same thing again it wouldn’t have lived up to its namesake. If people got what they “wanted” which is a old school an engine with a manual transmission then there wouldn’t be anything new or experimental about the car. It would just be old and traditional. Times have changed and so has technology. Many of the vocal car enthusiast on the internet seem to be stuck in the past and anything new or innovative is heresy and dogma. It’s odd because tech enthusiasts on the other hand are fanatic about the bleeding edge and rarely would you have someone wish they made computers like the amigas or commodores of the 80s. I like the new nsx and I do think the price was a bit much. But I am also able to understand that Honda was trying to bring technology seen in 700k+ supercars downstream and down market. The Grand Tour review was fairly telling when, despite the tech and cost, it was basically on par with the R35 GTR, which obviously isn't anything to scoff at, but when you factor in that the NSX also costs around $40-50K more, it becomes a difficult sell. Then there's the legacy aspect, the first gen NSX was a simple driver's car that focused on being "budget friendly" with racing pedigree to boot, as opposed to a hybrid supercar which made it seem overtly complex and that Honda was caught chasing trends instead of doing their own thing as they did with the first gen.

    As much as people are paying up for the “old” NSX’s now I remember they didn’t sell well back in the day either. When I bought my 1999 Acura TL, I was looking as some of the Integras and other cars. If I remember correctly, they had 2 NSX’s that were languishing on the showroom for like 18 months. This was around Dallas so it’s not like it was a small market and they were even being heavily discounted. It’s such a shame as they were amazing cars. It was the same way with Mk 4 Supras. I’m old enough to remember a local Toyota dealer having like 3 of them on the lot. My Nissan dealer had a beautiful green final year 1996 300ZX TT they didn’t actually move until 1999.

      Exactly. People see the old NSX with rose-colored glasses, but in reality it suffered the same problems the current gen has. I remember reading car guides at the time and they all mentioned that the days of the NSX were numbered because they simply weren't selling. Same for the price, everybody complained that it was too expensive and that for the money you could get a 911. Well now it's the same for the current one.

      I'm also old enough to remember the 90's, playing Gran Turismo and being a huge fan of all these Japanese performance cars. I always wanted to see an NSX in real life but no dealer had one over here. The car was super expensive and nobody talked about it. You could basically only get it if you asked for it and ordered one. That makes it a very special car in my book and that's why it deserves that high price tag now.

      @@cm-15 How exactly would you or I know the Z06 isn't a better daily when it's not been released yet? I'd still rather have it for the engine alone personally.
      If you think the 911 turbo/ turbo S isn't a better daily... idk what to tell you man.

    As Doug goes through the NSX type S specific appearance changes, we should pay attention since many of them may appear on other Type S models in subsequent model years. I would not be surprised if the black badges start appearing on other models.

    Fun fact about those stalks for Wipers and Turn Signals. I own a 2020 Honda Fit, the entry level honda at that time (not Acura!), and I have the exact same stalks in my car!

    The infotainment system is the same as what I have in my 2016 Honda Civic.
    Unbelievable. Even the Civic after 2018 have a volume knob and Acura didn't even botther to put that in place.
