Watching this videos made me realized, i got ripped off by not explaining this really well before even offering the immediate denture!! Thank you for educating us!! Love your videos
@@rochellecorlett8263 I am still having problems 14 months letter. My Dentist didn't explain anything. I had no clue. She gave me 2 options. I thought I was getting healing immediate dentures. It was and still is a nightmare. My cost was $14,000 or option 2 was $11,000. I would fill this page with all that happened.
I had to have 13 extractions. Most of them were teeth that were broken of at the gum. 5 of them were the top front teeth that were jagged. My dentist was very up front with me and made sure that I knew the pros and cons to immediate dentures and permanent dentures. I have chosen to heal completely before getting my permanent dentures. I am getting the top denture and a partial for my bottom. It's hard to have the patience but it is the best choice.
I went the other day and he said you can either have partials all in the back or we can take all out and I have cavities in every tooth so I chose to get them all pulled but not at once he’s puking the backs and then my front tops and bottoms. I think this is the best thing for me what do you think?
I’m a teacher so I’m definitely going to wait until my mouth heals first and can get away with wearing a mask until I can get permanents put in. I’m off for the summers so that’ll be a perfect time frame for me.
I will have my dentures sometime this fall. I didn’t do immediate dentures. If I had to do over again. I would have gotten immediate dentures. Yes my fit will be better. But it is along time to be without teeth.
He makes a very important point. Don't be shy. 1) You must discuss your expectations in advance, as to whether you want perfectly looking dentures vs. copying old imperfections. 2) HUGE leap of faith having all your teeth pulled, then assuming your immed or regular dentures are gonna fit. 3. Buyer beware! Getting suckered into a "point of no return" by a very friendly-sounding dentist, who may eventually get sick of making adjustments, is not fun! BINGO!! that's me...fighting with the owner of the dental practice because nothing was discussed up front, with the guy featured in the friendly TV commercial.
Thank you for your straight to the point advice....I'm so sick of dentists sugar coating everything and hurrying through the appointment to get to the next patient to increase the size of their wallets
In the Netherlands dentures is free of cost . The basic health insurance about 180 euros every month included this even implants . Even rebase reline . Also removing teeth.
@angelaschaefer5883 The Netherlands 🇳🇱 is a social small country with good security measurements for poor people to benefit a good life. Also we are still number 5 of the richest countries in the world. We have affordable prices for Healthcare, living, food etc. Refugees everyone wants to come to Holland or Scandinavia countries like Sweden 🇸🇪. Germany 🇩🇪 our neighbors a big economic major country supports our economy growth by joining doing business import export. 40% are Arabic citizens of Türkei to work there or in Europe. If you need a Medtronic pacemaker or insuline pump... I work there ...you get it free from the low cost basic insurance about 180 euros a month paid. I got snap on dentures implants with a bar and luxury ceramic teeth for 600 euros . 11 .000 euro's was paid by the insurance. Teeth removal extractions by dentist is nocost .Noone wants normal dentures especially under because it falls out your mouth.
I just had 27 teeth pulled. I’m day 5 now, and I game one super sore spot in the front bottom, otherwise I don’t have ANY pain post op, I was struggling with teeth pain for years, almost like getting teeth pulled feels better than a toothache, or wisdom teeth working themselves outs pain. I’m STOKED on the results so far.
This may be a strange question but have you had any 'phantom teeth' episodes? I had 10 top teeth pulled and for the first 6 months to about 2 years I got it really bad all the time. Like my front teeth would hurt so I'd go to put my tounge on it and the spot that hurt would just be empty air😂 it's been about 5 years and it doesn't happen anymore
thank you very much for explaining the process here. I have had an upper plate for more years than I can remember and am on my 3rd one. I have had it maybe 10 years and it is still perfect. I wear no adhesive at all. I also have a partial on the lower in the front and still have some molars that it connects too. I was fortunate that my dentist always has done a great job making the teeth look right, pretty and fit well. The first one I got freaked me out because it had too much product that made my lip stick out. When I went in the next day he took off all the excess and all was great. It is very traumatic for people and it helps if your dentist is aware and thoughtful when helping a patient adjusting to wearing a denture. Kindness and extra care go a long way to making a person needing a denture feel normal. I plan on keeping the teeth I have left so I won't need a lower plate. I understand they can be hard to deal with. I certainly can't afford implants
@@jojosjoyfuljourney I think the goal of any good dentist is to keep what teeth you have rather than pulling them. No treatment is cheap. I would have the root canal and bridge. Bridges are permanent so there is nothing to feel uncomfortable. I may not be understanding your question but I am assuming you will only need a bridge if you have the tooth pulled? I have a cantilever bridge on my right lower. It attaches to two molars and the last molar is fake. I have had no issues at all with this for many years now. It is just like having all 3 teeth. Having a tooth pulled may be cheaper than a root canal but I don't think it is the best option since the goal should be to keep all your teeth intact until you die. The other option in my opinion would work too but not the best option unless the tooth is really damaged.
I just got a partial and a top plate replaced and they work well .my friend called to get a replacement cost and she was told 4000.00 . Why I didn’t pay that for mine
I'm getting my immediate dentures next week. I'm so anxious. Our teeth are not just tools, they are part of how we are perceived by the world. I won't 'just' be adjusting physically, but my self-identification will be adjusting too. I know that it will be a long process. I expect pain. But preparing with realistic expectations will help me a lot. My dentist didn't explain anything. Just did an impression, then told me I would have all my teeth pulled & go home wearing the dentures. I never heard of this method. I think that she should have told me more or given me some literature to take home with me. Thank God for UTube. I really appreciate that you made this video. I'm making a list of helpful videos to recommend. You will be at the top. Thanks.
That is the way I got my denture put in. It was a two step process where I had some teeth pulled and a partial that I wore for a while.. They made the denture and when I had the other teeth pulled they put on the denture and I went home with it in. What may happen is that there will be too much material on the gum portion of the denture that the dentist will file away so that it looks natural in your mouth. So don't freak out if it sticks out too far of you think you look weird. It can be fixed so you will be happy. You should have an appt with your dentist the day after you get your denture
@@annestep6741 she didn't see me for 2 weeks. She did adjustments, & I see her again in a week & a half. My bottom denture comes out so easily it's embarrassing, & the top is hard to remove. My mouth is still sore, which the pain level varies with everyone. I still need to take something for pain most nights. I despair of the top & bottom lining up enough to chew real food. But I guess it's all a process. I hear that it takes 3 to 6 months for most people to adjust to their dentures. As the adventure progresses... BUT I am happy that my smile looks great. That's a relief at least.
In my treatment plan and explanation my dentist made it clear that there were the immediate dentures and then the 2nd set. He included both with costs in plan and went over it with me. I would hope every dentist did that but apparently they don't.
I want you for my dentist. I’m so tired of the run around that I have been through just to get my top plate. I have a smaller gum line and had smallish teeth. I was promised that my new teeth would look the same yet no impressions were made prior to them all being pulled. I also have space/gaps and I want it back!! I’ve been making my own while trying to find a trustworthy honest dental practice.
hi. when you said you were making your own did you mean you're making your own dentures? and if so how are you doing it if you don't mind me asking cuz I'm going through this too
I'm kicking my ass about my teeth but I'm thankful for the education you've shared. Have a appointment for Oct and I didn't know any of this, it's like a assembly line at the place I went.
Hi, thank you for the kind words. If you feel uncomfortable with your dentist, get a second opinion. Let me know if I can answer any questions you have.
I appealed my insurance and they now have approved my upper partial denture! I got 7 teeth out today including my front teeth. From canine to canine.. I have to wait about 3 weeks until my partials are done. I was lucky to get a good impression before the extractions!
Haven't started the process or the decision yet so, I really appreciate this information today and you explained it well . Now to find a Dentist I can trust !
I prefer to let the gums heal when I have mine pulled, but sadly it won't be an option and I will have to have immediates in place ... can't work in a face to face environment without teeth
Thank you so much…I’m facing getting dentures and you answered a lot of things that my dentist didn’t address because of lack of time. I’m 77 yo woman and was hoping my teeth would last a lifetime given how much I’ve been to the dentist but decay won. Freaked out by the thought of dentures.
Glad it was helpful! I've had many people tell me the worst part of getting dentures was wrapping their heads around the idea that they are getting dentures.
I am very grateful for my dentures, they make me look ten years younger and have given me new confidence and a smile, so I will take care of them and when I don't need to wear them I will clean them with care and put them in a strong and nice box. Uouovo
Thank you so much. My awesome dentist told me I needed to heal first BC I've had so much bone loss. So I'm getting mine pulled first & heal 6-8 weeks. Scared to be toothless for that long but happy I'm finely doing this. Getting pulled 2-7-23 then my bday is 2-9-89. So yeah I'm gonna be 34.
Go for it went to my dentist thought i needed a few teeth pull my dentist was truthful he told me he could pull those teeth and fix a partial plate but eventually i would have to come back and have the rest pull he explain why i had a choice to get the partial or come back in a few months to get the rest pull i made a choice to have them all pull took me couple more trips then about 2 months my gums heal went back got my impressions about 4weeks later went back to be fixed for my dentures with proper care soaking them every night using denture tooth paste they held up for over 20 years i forgot they where dentures of cause i had to use a little denture cream later my favorite is fixodent plus with scope keeps my mouth fresh in 2020 a tooth fell off the plate so i got a new set no one knew i had denture but my family here's a laugh for you my first set when i was fixed my dentist told me to say a word with "S" i said shit of cause my dentist lol said yep you can talk with them both sets are comfortable he fixed me perfectly eat any thing i want i have no problem with either set it cost but it's worth it
I will be getting my teeth on 2/7! Time flies though, and you won't regret it. Not going to lie, eating without teeth is not exactly pleasant but knowing you'll have pearly whites coming helps a ton!
Thank you for this. I am going to have all my teeth pulled. I have a front-top bridge that is hanging on by one post. They're extracting to 3-8,11-13 and 20-28, Bone grafting two quadrants, alvoloplastiest 4 quadrants,5 lower implants. I now have many questions to get answers to. Thank you again...
I had all 17 teeth pulled 11 days ago. My insurance paid for everything. I go every week for a checkup. I have so many bone shards, the dentist won't take them out yet. He said he wants the gums to heal more before he makes the decision to get the shards out. Cannot do impressions until the shards get removed. Its a bit maddening for me, I just have to be patient. Can't wait to get my dentures.
@smokeyone ok...I guess. Had teeth pulled on July 2. Swelling had gone down and I was almost ready for a fitting. But unfortunately the oral surgeon missed 3 bone spurs one my upper. I couldn't tolerate the pain if I pressed these 3 areas with my tongue. So.....back to the oral surgeon for hopefully be my last visit to him. September 20,2024. Stitches today and Swelling are just beginning to subside.
Thank you so much. I'm going thru it bad right now and don't know what to do. I smiled all the time, not so much at all. My confidence and mental state have been super jilted and knowing how much implants are but how programmed I have been to fear dentures have really made it impossible to do much but just feel stuck and almost ignore the problem, which feels ignorant and like I've given up on myself... But after watching your video, you just made me not feel so alienated and alone. Thank you so much. I never EVER comment on people's videos, I rarely even hit like buttons.... But I did both here because you really hit a nerve (no pun intended) and it was like I was having a conversation with a good friend that wasn't judgemental, and was very informative and sincere. Thanks. You helped me a lot. 🙏
If id had you for a dentist i would have gone more often. All but one dentist ive been to shwendled me out of so much money. The one that didnt sadly passed away 5 years ago. Thank you for the info, will be soon getting dentures.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental unfortunately I have severe gum disease now, and doubt any can be saved. But I'm hoping dentures will give me back my confidence and good eating habits. Thank you for your concern. 🙂
I have a misaligned jaw which has caused some issues for me throughout the years. Some dentists have advised that I break my jaw, others have advised against doing that. My question is this: Is it possible to make dentures for people who have this issue? If so, would I need to see some kind of specialist or can all dentists who make dentures be able to help me? Loved your video, thank you.
Hi, it's possible to make a denture for your situation, but usually there will be some compromises in the position of the teeth. A general dentist who likes making dentures should be able to handle it. If not you might need to see a prosthodontist.
My dentist gave me a printout for everything up front. I pd half to start with and half after extractions were finished. What they dont tell you is the temporary dentures have a funny taste to them that doesnt go away. I get my perm teeth in a couple of weeks. Im waiting til then to get my remaining bottom teeth fillings which will be a separate cost.
I want dentures. I have periodontal disease, even though I brush, floss and use prescription mouthwash. Not of it has changed my outcome. The dentist I saw two years ago refused to pull my teeth because I wouldn’t like having dentures. Not sure how he knew that since I asked for my teeth to be removed and dentures. He discussed saving my teeth and then proceeded to mansplain the preferred treatment was for the placement of upper and lower permanent bridges. That there would need to be root canals on 8 teeth for top and bottom. And I lost it. In case you don’t know, root canals remove the inside of the tooth, killing it. I asked him how killing 8 teeth is going to save my teeth when I would have 7 teeth left that would be ‘alive’. I told him he was an idiot and I left. I haven’t been back.
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. I think gum disease has a strong genetic component. If you have gum disease, you can't cure it, you can only manage it. I hope you went to another dentist for a second opinion.
I'm in the middle of treatment where my implants are healing and I'm wearing a temporary until the healing is done. I will ask my dentist how my final dentures will be handled should there be problems. Thank you very much.
I'm 66, have periodontal disease and bone loss. I can see the bottoms of some of my teeth. I recently had one cracked to the root tooth removed/ My dentist want's me to have root canal surgery on 2 other unstable teeth, but isn't that kind of pointless if the bone isn't strong enough to hold the teeth? I'm seriously considering bottom dentures because I'm so tired of root canals, caps,, bridges and mostly pain. I don't even care if I have to live on baby food for the rest of my life.
Hi it depends on the situation. For people in your situation a cu-sil partial denture may be a better option than a full denture. It will stay in place better than a full denture and when you eventually lose the teeth, it can be converted into a full denture. Talk to your dentist about what options they recommend for your situation. Here is a video I made about cu-sil partial dentures. th-cam.com/video/WXm4r8c66As/w-d-xo.html
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Thank you so much! I wish I lived closer to your office! I trust you, the dentists I've been dealing with lately, not so much. They seem to have their own agenda whether I approve or not.
My dentist told me she would just do the adjustments for nothings as long as I’m not coming in everyweek because my insurance only covers so many a year luckily she is really nice and listens to what I want and they fit really well
Hi, did your dentist not recommend immediate dentures in your situation? I have a video in which I discuss my thought process as to whether or not to make immediate dentures. th-cam.com/video/C4hreao8ty8/w-d-xo.html
I'm going in for my initial visit in a few days. I am dealing with some advanced periodontal disease and the impressions worried me. But now, a lot of dental practices do use "Itero" 3D imaging to make your immediates. I have several loose teeth and did some checking.
I am in the remove stage now. I have 8 more of my teeth to be remove my insurance is paying for my dentures top and bottom. I was offer Immediate dentures, but I denied it for the full set and proper fittings and plus my teeth are lose to the point where if I drink cold water my teeth will hurt badly.
I got all teeth extracted & immediate dentures 3 weeks ago. In 6 months I will get another impression & receive permanent dentures. Aspen Dental $13,000. I financed it through care credit.
I'm having a hard time deciding on dentures or snap in although I'd rather get snap in dentures. Especially I heard the bottom dentures can move around more unlike snap in.
You are so sweet ....thank you for letting us into the yukkie world of dentistry where nothing much changes in decades apon decades. I have a problem in that my teeth are loose in front, top jaw and i have a MI-NUTE bite ( as in REALLY hardly a gap) but have to consider dentures but dentist said he himself doesntbeven want to go ahead. Says the bottom denture MUST ve made first as too many gaps where previous root canal teeth had to be removed due to no crowns on top ( wasnt told 🤬) Advice is to go to a Prof at HUGE cost to get his advice. IM SO UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS .....if they dont know what to do how the heck should i ? They studied NOT me 😭
Hi, a lot has changed in dentistry in the last 20 years. It sounds like you have a difficult case and your dentist wants to refer you to a prosthodontist?
Great information and advice! I wish I saw this before I got them. I totally didn't know what to expect. First time I heard what I had was a "temporary" denture was upon my 2nd lining. A question please doc... I am homebound, but handy. I cannot get to a dentist. My dentures are holding up well enough but they are a bit stained I think. How can I brighten them up myself at home? How is it done by a dentist? As I said I am very handy! I was a cosmetologist for 37 years and can work well with tools, including tools for acrylic nails - which look VERY similar to many denture tools. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated as I want to start making great youtube videos, as you do! But about makeup, hair, crochet etc. Thank you in advance!!
Hi, to clean your denture at home I usually recommend to first brush them with dish soap and a denture brush or a soft toothbrush. Then soak them in denture cleaner. A couple of good denture cleaners are Kleenite and ValClean. You can order both on Amazon I think. If you don't want to use commercially made denture cleaners, you can soak the denture in a mix of half vinegar/half water for 15 minutes, or dilute 1 teaspoon of bleach in a glass of water and soak the denture for 5 minutes, then rinse it off. Thank you very much for watching and good luck with your TH-cam channel !
I have a full set of dentures that are 30+ years old and haven't fit well in a long time. I'm thinking I really should get new and for the first time I have dental insurance. It will cover 50% up to $2,500. I won't be able to come up with 2,500, maybe 1 k, I hope that will be enough. I would like to know if I should see a general dentist or a prosthodontist? Specialists usually cost much much more. I think a doctor that specializes in something should be able to do "the job" much more easily, quickly and efficiently, practice makes perfect, yes? Most specialists charge much much more because they're so "special" 😉😁 I don't have a dentist because I've had these dentures for decades, literally. So, would you be more inclined to recommend a general dentist or a prosthodontist? Thank you for being genuinely caring to those of us that would love to be a patient of your's.
Hi, I would recommend you see a few dentists and prosthodontists for consults before you pick one to make your dentures. Try to find someone who will work with you through the process. Where do you live?
I'm 64 and a 100% disabled veteran, so I am entitled to full dentistry support through the VA and I meet my dentist this Wednesday for the first time. I have to tell you that I'm both scared s$@tless and look forward to getting full dentures. I'll have to have all my remaining teeth pulled and I am most concerned about being able to chew most foods and fully taste food. I don't even know what questions to ask. I'm blessed in a way because I'm not really hindered by cost. I need help.
Hi, let your dentist know your concerns when you meet them. Depending on your situation, the dentist may suggest immediate dentures. I made a video discussing the things I look at when I recommend getting immediate dentures, th-cam.com/video/C4hreao8ty8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you very much for the kind words. Sorry to hear about your husbands situation. When my father in law went through chemo, he complained of mouth sores constantly. He also mentioned the chemo altered his sense of taste.
Had my dentures made, had my second adjustment today. My third adjustment is next Tuesday. Then I will be done. My mouth is so sore, I just have to push through the pain.
Hi, I use the flexible material usually for small 1 to 2 tooth flippers. I have made a couple of larger partials with it at the request of a patient (here's a video of one, th-cam.com/users/shortsoifh3oh7hAg?feature=share) but I have never used the material for a full denture.
Thanks for the info Doc, I have Hyperdontia where my third set of teeth basically destroyed my second set and themselves and I am looking into getting them replaced with dentures, My dentist also advised me that it would be wise to run around without teeth for a week or two depending on how my jaw heals and the sockets close so that my Dentures would fit nicely and not fall out. I would like to see a follow up video on permanent dentures that get bolted in, I would like to have that as the end goal but would want to know the pros and cons about having teeth put into your head with a torque wrench. :)
Dentures vs implants if I am under 60 yrs old? I need ur opinion it will be thru the VA not sure what the requirements for implants vs dentures? Any suggestions? Thanks
@@VeryNiceSmileDental It will be dentures with the bottom one anchored with 2 prongs, magnetic? Can u elaborate on what it's called? Snap in overdentures?
It took me 5 years to even get a partial in Hawaii. Most dentists here just want to do implants and make tons of money. Finally found a dentist. Thank goodness!
I'm glad to hear you found someone who can help you. I believe that in the near future it's going to be difficult to find a dentist who can make a good removable partial denture or a good full denture. It's already getting difficult to find a lab that can make good removable partial and full dentures.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I have a lot of damaged and missing teeth and finances are a problem. My guess is dentures. Possibly uppers now followed by lower later. Problem I have is I get SO in my head about this all that I can’t even go for a consult. I’m not sure if I need more info or less. I’m mostly afraid of the initial extractions. Anything you can say to alleviate my fear would help! If you know of any dentists in my area ( Northern Illinois) that might also be a help.
Take it one step at a time. Make some consultation appointments and find a dentist you feel comfortable with. It might take a few tries to find the right dentist for you. I don't know anyone personally, but I have heard that there are a lot of dentists in Illinois.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental question. I had one wisdom tooth. It was partially our.. I had it pulled. I was AMAZED ( and LOVED my dentist back then) that after the shots to numb he came in and pulled it out so quickly that when he said I was done I couldn’t believe it. I realize this is l more complicated but in general , am I making a bigger monster of this than I need to?
I had top dentures until they took the last of the bottom teeth out and when they did that I was no longer able to wear the top because it was hurting my gums so it's been seven or eight years since I've had teeth and I've been wanting to get a pair of dentures but I wasn't sure what kind I should ask to get
Hi, if you are missing all of your teeth your options are, 1. regular dentures 2. snap in dentures on dental implants (a lot of times people will get a regular upper denture, then 2 implants on the lower jaw and a snap in denture for the lower) 3. permanent implant teeth(commonly called "All-on -4" ) usually 4 or more implants per jaw with a bridge attached to the implants. You can't remove the bridge at home.
I got dentures, and the molars are tiny. I've been able to compare them to 4 other sets and the molars are 1/3 the size of all the other ones. it's like eating with scissors I've cut my cheeks 4 times requiring stitches. Idk what to do, they look great/natural, and I've hand no pain in wearing them. I don't have another 5k plus for another set.
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Cheek biting can usually be corrected with a bite adjustment. How do the front teeth look? Usually the front and back teeth are a matched set. Were they a set of immediate dentures?
Thank you so much for this video.. very important questions to ask. I’m going to start the process of getting fitted for immediate dentures in a week and right after the dental office receives them I’m getting 16 teeth pulled 😰. I’m so scared bcz I’m not getting Iv sedation. They don’t have this in the dental office just ‘laughing gas’, which i told them i want. I suffer from bad anxiety so this has me very nervous. I take blood thinners and my cardiologist told me to stop taking them 5 days before extractions. I just don’t want to feel pain 🥺. Will I still have pain with this laughing gas??
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I am having all my teeth removed some are healthy but my teeth are very sensitive and stained. I haven't had a decent smile in years. I decided on snap in's, so here is the plan so far. I was quoted $26,000 for the process start to finish. They failed to include the fee for the 3D scan which was due at my 2nd appt. and $3,200 😖 wondering what other hidden costs they'll hit me with. Next are the extractions with one bone graph then temporary dentures. After the gums heal then implants, 4 on top and 3 on the bottom. Once those heal the snap ins go on. I AM THINKING ABOUT REGULAR DENTURES AFTER READING PROTHODONTIS'S AND A MAJOR NETWORK REPORT ON THE NATIONWIDE PROBLEM OF UNTRAINED DENTISTS PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE WITH REALLY BAD OUTCOMES. I AM SO CONFUSED!!!! I can't afford anything more other than the original price $26,000 quoted. The $3,200, that hurt!!!! What would you suggest I do????
@@GoFarFarAway. Hi Diane, sorry to hear about your situation. An extra $3200. in cost is not a little thing. Get a firm price quote before you continue. I have had cases in which I underestimated what needed to be done, but that's on me, not on the patient. As to your questions about dentists training, general dentists are trained to make full dentures (at least they were 25 years ago when I graduated). Implant placement training is common nowadays too.
Thank you for the explanation, it has been helpful. I have one misshaped front tooth which is now protruding, and the other is loose from a fracture awhile ago which is now infected. Unfortunately the eye tooth next to it is now loose too. I have opted to pull the two front teeth and replace them with an immediate denture. I’m thinking to save time and money to pull the third one too. The problem is the gap has widened between my teeth due to shifting and I’m worried I’ll be left with these overly big front teeth which would look ridiculous. My dentist has assured me that they won’t, but without knowing what they will look like first hand, that might not be my best option. I have bone loss too with most of my teeth, and now regular deep cleaning to try and bring my gums back to health. Should I look at implants or a bridge as another alternative?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental yes that’s correct. I’m not sure whether that’s my best option though. I know it’s more expensive but think a bridge or implants might be better long term.
If you can get implants, it's going to be the most like having your own teeth again. It also sounds like you have periodontal disease. Make sure you get that under control.
My dentist wants me to get braces because of my overcrowded upper arch but I rather just live the pain-free life. My heart is set on dentures upper arch and bottom arch which I am happy with. Shouldn’t my dentist take notes what I want instead of what they want? Since I will be living with it without insurance.
I got a partial plate on the bottom (6 teeth stayed in including a wisdom tooth). The top teeth were pulled but at two different times. Once I got the top denture in - they look really good and I could bite chew etc for the first few days. Then it became harder to chew especially on the left side. Seem like there was more bulk on this side. I explained it several times on different visit but he did not understand. Now 6 mos later it is still no difference - have not been back. What's the use. He just looks at me like I'm mentally inclined. The adhesive I use does keep them in but it is so hard to get it out. I've asked about maybe an easy way to remove the adhesive. So I seldom use it. The suction does work pretty good on small portions of food but the meat if it' chewed on the right side first the teeth will loosen. I paid $11,000 for mine and I wish every day I still had my old raggy teeth. At least I could eat what I wanted - no pain - and maybe not as pretty but others saw them more than I!! :) I wish I had seen this last summer. Now let me go to my special place and cry. When you are a widow in your 70's and on a fixed income I think some people will squeeze the life out of you. Oh! He did say if these did not work we could do the implants. That is what I ask for first!!!
Hi, thank you for your comment. Sorry to hear about your situation. After 6 months a reline may be very helpful. It should give you a tighter fit. The bulkiness may be able to be thinned down as well.
Thanks for your videos. We need more honest dentist in US, not a money chasers. What is your opinion on bio dentist and what do you think about toxicity of root canals? Thanks!!!
How strong are denture teeth held in. If you have ocd and you push on backs of front teeth with your bottom teeth, will you just push the teeth out of your denture . If so, is there any way to make them more secure
Hi, denture teeth are made out of the same material as the pink denture acrylic. The teeth are well bonded to the gums. People usually break them in half before knocking them loose from a denture.
When I got my top temporary denture I loved the look, a few months later the dentist brought out the permanent, it didn't look anything like my teeth so I politely told him I wasn't happy with it and asked if I could change some things, he started scolding me, handed it to me and said no charge, don't come back. He was pissed and the nurses and assistants were obviously embarrassed. I wanted to smack the jerk. He then told my wife, 10 year old son and my brother in law they weren't welcome back. My wife's parents had been with his father and with him and taken their kids to him for years.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I am still wearing my temporary, they're still great after 8 years, never had a problem with them. Now I'm starting on the bottom, had a tooth pulled today and my dentist made me another temporary bridge after my other broke the other day, my real bridge will be ready next week, I just didn't want to go around at work with missing teeth, he said he wouldn't make me one until I had the tooth pulled, an old tooth crumbled on one I had a root canal on 20 years ago. I'm think I'm going to get all on four on the bottom next year, just hard giving up my last 6 real teeth🤣
I just got my permanent dentures after having healing dentures and I still cant chew much food unless its very soft. Do you have any suggestions to how to learn to eat more solid foods. Thank you
Hi, I usually tell people to start by eating really soft foods like scrambled eggs and small bites at first. With dentures, you also need to chew on both sides of your mouth at once to keep the denture in place. Then you try a little bit tougher foods. Keep in mind that you are relearning how to eat with dentures. It will take some time to get good at it.
Hi, one of the things I look at is how much "attached gingiva" a denture patient has in their mouth. Attached gingiva is much tougher and can withstand having a denture rest on it. If a person has very little attached gingiva for the denture to sit on, implants are a better option, though ideally you want to have attached gingiva around the implants too.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I feel like the teeth is too small for my moith and i would like to check if it can be done, eating is not a problem but it looks really short in my mouth:(
Talk to your dentist, but there may be a problem with just changing out the front teeth but leaving the back teeth. How much of a difference in length are you talking about? 1-2 mm or is it more than that?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental i think 1 - 2 mm Are the implants are supposed not in the same height? I was wondering why 4 of my implants are not in the height. Just wondering thoug.
@@bechaydapechay9601 Hi Bechay, I'm confused now. I thought you were talking about the length of the teeth on the overdenture. What's going on with the implants?
Thanks for the helpful video! I had upper teeth removed following severe periodontal and provided an immediate denture same day of extraction in 2016 for son’s wedding. I have had the temporary denture 7 years and never relined and able to eat everything including almonds, use much denture adhesive and need a permanent denture at this time. I have only a handful of solid standing teeth remaining in bottom front and have been to several dentists - spent much money consults Ct scans and last one said not eligible for implants as hip bone is needed for grafting and I will never do that at 64 years old with osteoporosis. Daughter getting married in four months and need help asap. When I talk, people can see broken off teeth front bottom side and I’m fearful to remove the remains (lost during two years of Covid) without having replacement. Latest was told no implant eligibility so what should I do ? I’m fearful to remove remaining five strong bottom teeth - should I get a temporary partial ? This is urgent. I’m also seeing yet another dentist for opinion next month. My entire bottom face is droopy wrinkly sagging from jaw bone loss both sides it’s horrible and will dentures on bottom help this problem? Also no relationship in many years as I don’t want a guy to know I have dentures it’s messed up !! If you would provide any advice, I would greatly appreciate !! Thank you! Also on relining, my teeth would need to be sent out to their lab and it takes 3 days so 3 days without any upper teeth would never happen so good idea to ask on labs if relining is needed how long without any teeth ?
You're welcome! Sorry to hear about your situation. I'm going to address your questions as separate replies to your comment, just to make it easier for me to keep track of every thing. Let me know if I miss anything.
If your lower teeth are failing, you have some options that don't involve dental implants. Do you have any type of lower partial denture currently? If so, sometimes missing teeth can be added to the partial. It may not stay in well, but it would be a quick fix, usually a day or two at the lab. Other options would be a lower immediate denture, downside is that a lower denture doesn't stay in place as well as an upper full denture. Another option is a type of partial denture called a Cu-sil partial denture (also known as a Virginia partial denture). It looks like a lower full denture, but it has holes in it through which teeth can fit through. If you have one strong tooth on both sides of your lower jaw (ideal is having both lower canines) a cu-sil partial can be made and the canines will hold it in place. If in the future you lose one or all of the remaining teeth, the partial can be easily converted into a full denture. Here are three videos I made that give more detail, th-cam.com/video/WXm4r8c66As/w-d-xo.html, th-cam.com/video/t9nXlTqfQtQ/w-d-xo.html, th-cam.com/video/y4fJ-mP-0J0/w-d-xo.html. Last option would be an all acrylic temporary partial replacing the missing teeth. It would be mostly for looks, people usually can't eat well with it.
Dentures and partial dentures can help with giving more support to your cheeks and lips. It's a combination of having the teeth the correct length, and enough pink plastic gum to fill out your face to the proper contour.
There are two types of relines, chairside and lab relines. A chairside reline can be down while you wait in the dental office. A lab reline needs to be sent out to the lab. My lab can usually do it overnight if I give them a heads up ahead of time. Lab relines have a better finish and they hold up longer than chairside relines (the material used is different). If your immediate denture is 7 years old, I would probably recommend a chairside reline or your existing denture, and a new upper denture.
Are you in Dutchess County, NY? My office is just outside of White Plains in Westchester County. You are welcome to come in for a free consultation and I can talk to you about your options.
I am going in for a full extraction soon, i was told i would walk out with a set of teeth in my mouth. Not sure how that all works but it seems common.
Sounds like you are getting a set of immediate dentures, or if you are getting dental implants, it would be an "all of 4" type of procedure. Will the teeth be removable?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental It sounds like i would be wearing the full set of 'temporary' dentures for up to 6 months or longer to determine the bone loss, etc before the snap in's would be done (which is what i want). I go in for a type of ct scan tomorrow to determine how much bone i got to work with already. Maybe the titanium posts will be put in at the time of extraction, unknown yet!
Hey I got it done ✔️ top and bottom extracted 19 remaining teeth and then these immediate dentures then he will turn these into my perms I have a question I’m only 2 weeks 4 days and I have sore spots are worse since the adjustment today :( I have a soft reline on bottom immediate denture not the top yet mines are tight is it possible there to small lol 😂
Hi, sometimes it takes a few adjustment visits to get everything to feel better, then as the jaws heal and shrink you can get new sore spots. You're still in the healing phase and it takes time. Go back for an adjustment when you get a sore spot.
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I have a Tori and do not want dentures. I am I California. I realize I will need bone grafts. And perhaps a sinus lift. Apparently there are removable teeth which I’ve been told would be easier to clean. I am undecided whether that is preferable? 3 on 1 means one implant per 3 teeth?🦷
Hi, are you looking to replace all the teeth in one arch or do you still have some of your own teeth that can be saved? I made a video that goes over some things to think about if you are deciding between fixed or removable teeth, th-cam.com/video/f7TV9CsFNeE/w-d-xo.html
I got in that mess he told me it would cover everything, ended up I had to pay for pulling, pay forrelineing, ended up paying over 2000.00 for one set with pulling.

I have crowns top and bottom behind my eye teeth to my molars. Does a person get partial dentures or full dentures. One crown has broken off, I was wondering what the best way to do?
I'm curious, as I have a wax fitting scheduled on Tuesday for my upper denture and lower partial. Would this be the time and for me to select the ideal color and type of teeth? Perhaps porcelain or acrylic teeth? Your expert suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I usually go over color and tooth shape choices at the bite registration visit. I usually recommend acrylic teeth because they stay attached to the denture base better than porcelain teeth. At the wax try in visit, I have the patient take a look to see if they like the color and shape of the teeth, and I check to make sure they are in the correct position. Sometimes the bite can be off and it's easy to correct it at the wax try in stage.
Hi Doctor, as a patient I can’t find any information regarding the backflaw prevention requirements for saliva ejectors, is it required in USA? In Louisiana in particular? How do I see if my doctor has it? Of course I can ask directly, just not sure if the hygienist would say the truth, does a doctor usually know such things or only a hygienist? Thank you!
Hi, I don't know the laws in Louisiana but generally dental offices in USA have to follow the CDC guidelines for infection control. Here is what they say about backflow prevention for saliva ejectors, www.cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/faqs/saliva.html How does backflow occur when using a saliva ejector? Backflow occurs when previously suctioned fluids present in the suction tubing flow back into the patient’s mouth. Backflow can occur when: There is pressure in a patient’s mouth (a result of closing their lips and forming a seal around the tip of the ejector) that is less than in the saliva ejector (similar to how liquid flows back into a cup after drinking through a straw). The suction tubing attached to the ejector is positioned above the patient’s mouth. A saliva ejector is used at the same time as other evacuation (high-volume) equipment. Although no adverse health effects associated with the saliva ejector have been reported, dental health care personnel (DHCP) should be aware that backflow could occur when they use a saliva ejector. DHCP should not advise patients to close their lips tightly around the tip of the saliva ejector to evacuate oral fluids. DHCP should contact the manufacturer of the dental unit to review proper use and maintenance procedures, including appropriate cleaning and disinfection methods.
hi,i have 4 upper teeth that are shaking and potruding outside'should i have bracelet of get them removed and replaced with dentures, and gum is residing
Is it better to have dentures made while you still have teeth or after they are pulled? I don’t care how I look during the process or for how long (I work from home & can wear a mask in public, etc) I just want the best look and fit to my dentures - what’s usually the ideal process for that?
Hi, to get the best look and fit, I usually recommend removing the teeth, letting the gums heal, then making the dentures. I have a video in which I go over the pros and cons of immediate dentures. th-cam.com/video/9b3rttzoeXk/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by "bone alignment". When you have teeth removed before getting dentures some dentists will do an "alveoloplasty" which means they will trim down the jawbone after the teeth are removed (it's done at the same time the teeth are removed).
My dentist says that he can't save the one upper or lower front 5 that I have left. He said that because I have an under-bite that it will be even harder for me to get a good fit at the bottom. Can you still get implants years down the line, I mean will the bone have disappeared? 🤔
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Once you have the teeth removed, the bone will shrink over time. More so initially, then the rate of shrinkage will decrease. I talk about this in more depth in this video, th-cam.com/video/UuozZ_B6vuA/w-d-xo.html It may still be possible to have implants placed in the future. I have a patient who wore a full upper denture and a lower partial denture (replacing her back teeth) for 40 years before she decided to get implants. The surgeon needed to perform some bone grafting before placing the implants, but they were successful. The patient ended up with 7 implants on top and 5 implants on the bottom. She still has her lower front 6 teeth (canine to canine). When you do have your teeth removed, try to avoid having alveoloplasty (jawbone removal). Some dentists remove more bone than is necessary.
Watching this videos made me realized, i got ripped off by not explaining this really well before even offering the immediate denture!! Thank you for educating us!! Love your videos

I am still having problems 14 months letter. My Dentist didn't explain anything. I had no clue. She gave me 2 options. I thought I was getting healing immediate dentures. It was and still is a nightmare.
My cost was $14,000 or option 2 was $11,000.
I would fill this page with all that happened.
@Jillb1950 wow, for that price u prob could have gotten implants
?
I had to have 13 extractions. Most of them were teeth that were broken of at the gum. 5 of them were the top front teeth that were jagged. My dentist was very up front with me and made sure that I knew the pros and cons to immediate dentures and permanent dentures. I have chosen to heal completely before getting my permanent dentures. I am getting the top denture and a partial for my bottom. It's hard to have the patience but it is the best choice.
How have things been thus far? I hope your doing well :)
That what I'm doing my dentist told me my options Frist
I went the other day and he said you can either have partials all in the back or we can take all out and I have cavities in every tooth so I chose to get them all pulled but not at once he’s puking the backs and then my front tops and bottoms. I think this is the best thing for me what do you think?
Immediate dentures are better.. and make sure you get a new set so I basically opted for both
I’m a teacher so I’m definitely going to wait until my mouth heals first and can get away with wearing a mask until I can get permanents put in. I’m off for the summers so that’ll be a perfect time frame for me.
Good luck on your journey. Let me know if you have any questions when you start.
I got immediate dentures, never went without teeth

I am so sorry. 💔😢
Thank you for sharing, and thank you very much for watching!
You see in the US. We think socialism is terrible. Clearly we are going about this the wrong way.
Nice... Americans That Work don't get such Things
I'm actually thinking of going to Mexico to get dentures. Far cheaper.
WOW, WHAT AN AMAZING OUTCOME.....happy for you
Yes I also was having pain. It is nice to not have to worry about that anymore.
You're welcome! It sounds like you are in good hands. Thank you very much for watching.
Who did you go to to have yours if I get my tooth pulled instead of a root canal and bridge I’ll need a 3 unit near tooth # 15
If I get tooth extracted rather than a root canal and 3 unit bridge, tooth #15 will the denture feel comfortable?
Thanks.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I hope everything goes well with your treatment. Thank you very much for watching!

Usually for immediates the lab will try to match the size and shape of your teeth. Your dentist probably matched the shade as well.
Very informative and I appreciate how straight forward you are in the video. This will help anyone who intends to get dentures.

How did it go?
@smokeyone ok...I guess. Had teeth pulled on July 2. Swelling had gone down and I was almost ready for a fitting. But unfortunately the oral surgeon missed 3 bone spurs one my upper.
If not you might need to see a prosthodontist.

gave me a printout for everything up front.
The Root canal guy was your dentist's brother in law.....

Thank you I received Immediate denture for 3 teeth 2 of which was taken out, didn't really understand but now I do thank you

I'm going in for my initial visit in a few days. I am dealing with some advanced periodontal disease and the impressions worried me. But now, a lot of dental practices do use "Itero" 3D imaging to make your immediates. I have several loose teeth and did some checking.
The new 3D intraoral scanners are amazing. Good luck with your journey, let me know if you have any questions.
I am grateful for you sharing this information. I feel I will be more confident and aware of what to expect
Wonderful!
Sounds like a good plan. Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me. Thank you very much for watching!!
I got all teeth extracted & immediate dentures 3 weeks ago. In 6 months I will get another impression & receive permanent dentures. Aspen Dental $13,000.
I financed it through care credit.
Thank you for sharing. I hope all goes well.
I'm having a hard time deciding on dentures or snap in although I'd rather get snap in dentures. Especially I heard the bottom dentures can move around more unlike snap in.
Snap in dentures will stay in better and can be made smaller especially for the top. Upper snap ins usually don't cover the roof of your mouth.

Says the bottom denture MUST ve made first as too many gaps where previous root canal teeth had to be removed due to no crowns on top ( wasnt told 🤬)
Advice is to go to a Prof at HUGE cost to get his advice. IM SO UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS .....if they dont know what to do how the heck should i ? They studied NOT me 😭

I need your advice doc.what to do am planing to go back again to my dentist
Most specialists charge much much more because they're so "special" 😉😁
I don't have a dentist because I've had these dentures for decades, literally.

I am really sorry about your husband.
Had my dentures made, had my second adjustment today. My third adjustment is next Tuesday. Then I will be done. My mouth is so sore, I just have to push through the pain.
Hi are they immediate dentures?
Thank you for your video. I got a question about flexible denture and permanent denture, is it the same? And difference? Thank you
Hi, I use the flexible material usually for small 1 to 2 tooth flippers.

I am going through the process now. I’ve waited for way too long and suffered .. I’m scared to death!!
I wish you were in my area!
Hi, thanks for watching! What are you having done?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental one more question. Can you or do you have a video describing the types of anesthesia?
I had top dentures until they took the last of the bottom teeth out and when they did that I was no longer able to wear the top because it was hurting my gums so it's been seven or eight years since I've had teeth and I've been wanting to get a pair of dentures but I wasn't sure what kind I should ask to get
Hi, if you are missing all of your teeth your options are,
1. regular dentures
2. snap in dentures on dental implants (a lot of times people will get a regular upper denture, then 2 implants on the lower jaw and a snap in denture for the lower)
3. permanent implant teeth(commonly called "All-on -4" ) usually 4 or more implants per jaw with a bridge attached to the implants.
Hi, laughing gas will just take the edge off, you still need local anesthetic for the pain. If you are extremely nervous, maybe consider sedation.
What is the amount of time should i wait before having my either dentures or implants ?
Hi, where are you in the process?
Just about to have immediate dentures here in the UK.
Great video thank you.

I have had cases in which I underestimated what needed to be done, but that's on me, not on the patient. As to your questions about dentists training, general dentists are trained to make full dentures (at least they were 25 years ago when I graduated). Implant placement training is common nowadays too.
@@GoFarFarAway. what did you end up doing?
Very informative. Glad I saw this.
Hi, are you thinking of getting a denture?
Hi, it sounds like you are having teeth removed and replaced with a temporary partial denture, is that correct?
@@VeryNiceSmileDental yes that’s correct. I’m not sure whether that’s my best option though. I know it’s more expensive but think a bridge or implants might be better long term.
If you can get implants, it's going to be the most like having your own teeth again. It also sounds like you have periodontal disease. Make sure you get that under control.
Implants if I was you
My dentist wants me to get braces because of my overcrowded upper arch but I rather just live the pain-free life.
I wish I had seen this last summer.

Do uou not need enough gums 2 attached dentures? After the shrinking of gums after long time thank you😊
Hi, one of the things I look at is how much "attached gingiva" a denture patient has in their mouth. Attached gingiva is much tougher and can withstand having a denture rest on it. If a person has very little attached gingiva for the denture to sit on, implants are a better option, though ideally you want to have attached gingiva around the implants too.
Is it possible to make the teeth longer after the final denture is done?
Hi Bechay, it can be done but it's not ideal. Ideally that should be addressed during the wax try in visit. What's going on?

🦷how much does this cost?
Sinus lift & bone grafts.
3 on 1 is using 3 titanium screws. I’ve researched 4 on 1 is this using only 3 screws vs 4?

Hi, it depends on the condition of your teeth. If only the broken tooth is bad, then have that fixed.

Here is what they say about backflow prevention for saliva ejectors, www.cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/faqs/saliva.html
How does backflow occur when using a saliva ejector?
Backflow occurs when previously suctioned fluids present in the suction tubing flow back into the patient’s mouth. Backflow can occur when:
There is pressure in a patient’s mouth (a result of closing their lips and forming a seal around the tip of the ejector) that is less than in the saliva ejector (similar to how liquid flows back into a cup after drinking through a straw).
Thank you!

hi,i have 4 upper teeth that are shaking and potruding outside'should i have bracelet of get them removed and replaced with dentures, and gum is residing
Hi, if the teeth move around a lot, they will most likely need to be removed.

Can you get some bone alignment to make the denture fit?
I talk about this in more depth in this video, th-cam.com/video/UuozZ_B6vuA/w-d-xo.html
It may still be possible to have implants placed in the future.
