Private Dentures versus Budget Dentures - How False Teeth Are Made - Telford, Shropshire

  • Going private for a set of dentures is going to cost you more but what is the difference? While budget dentures will still do the job, there are differences in the manufacturing process and the materials. This ultimately makes a difference to how they will feel in your mouth, how they look and how long they will last. In this film, Simon from Bridge Dental Smiles in Telford, Shropshire meets Stuart who demonstrates the whole process of making a set of private dentures.

    I'm a Dental tech.in Canada working at a Denture Clinic.We use the same materials on all our dentures so the quality is all the same.I usually spend more time on more expensive dentures with carving the the root structure etc.but as far as materials we use the highest quality for every denture.

    the real difference they are not telling you, is set one are acrylic teeth, and set two, are porcelain teeth. yes the acrylic wears faster but its much kinder to your jaw. less damage over time, the porcelain teeth are not forgiving, you can also use a combination, using softer plastic for biting surface teeth, (posteriors) and porcelain for anterior, aka front 6 teeth.. that way you keep a beautiful smile and the posteriors wear out and can be replaced. What is really disturbing to me is that the costs are not that far apart, being a dentist in America is basically a license to steal.

      I found out I'm SEVERLY allergic to acrylic and I had paid 3000 and that was for temperate teeth. I found that out when they were doing impressions. So I got back 1599 out of 3000. And I only wore them home the day they did them and my mouth , tongue esphogas to stomach was on fire and burning. I have damage but who was to know. This may be off subject but when they put the impression hook in my mouth I made all kinds of sounds to tell girt it was burning n stop. She just said I I don't read sign language and it suppose to get lil warm. She should of been sued. Period. If any part of you burn mk then stop immediately. Now I've searched my whole state for hypoallergenic dentures. No one mks them. I've sense found out a lot of ppl have sensitivities to acrylic. So I lucked on on finding Russell klein. He's in FL. But sends things and tells you what to do. I have to have nylon. It's proven much better. Teeth are beautiful . He has a site. So I'm trying 1485 for hypoallergenic nylon light pink gorse show upper. Shorter bottom .. I picked color and all out my self. Bleach teeth color are natural. So I'm trying. No more if this falls Thu.

      @@debbielosli830 It is super hard to tell the difference between a cheaper and a premium material as a patient. Both come in different colours and with and without fibers. So they can look absolutely identical. The main factor is the ammount of monomer which stays in the finished product. The lesser the better becuase it can cause allergic reactions and irritations of the tissue. Another factor is the shrinkage of the material. Over time they tend to shrink a little. Some materials shrink more than others. The premium material used in the video is a hot polymerisation material which compensates a lot of the shrinkage and because of the heat has very little monomer left in the denture. Another point is the ammount of water it absorbs which can cause discolouration and of course bad smell. There are some more factors, but like I mentioned it is super hard to tell if a premium material was used. If you have no suction, you should get it relined. This can be caused by a bad impression (eaven the best denture is only as good as the impression) or bad design of the denture base. Of yourse there are more factors like weight loss, diseases, decline of the jaw or other factors. Hope I was able to help a little bit.

My dentist and her team were impressed because most people just eat mashed potatoes. I didn't finish all my pain meds but if my gums felt sore I'd take some ibuprofen.

I must admit, I might look into having a privately made set. Interesting video, thanks.

      completely agree with you, its a shame that the government do not fund this sort of dentistry for all citizens as it should be a right. but in my opinion the dentist surely can not be expected to bridge the financial gap in the manufacturing process out of money for his/her own pocket. if we pay £280 for dentures on the NHS and the dentist gets roughly half of it, (with the practice owner getting the other half), which is typical, then s/he has to make the top and bottom set for less then £140 in total for it to make the dentist any money at all.
      I was shocked when i found out that the NHS fees most of us pay account for over 90% of what the practice gets in total, so in reality our tax doesn't go towards our dentistry. It may go towards funding those who are exempt from dental charges but those who pay banded prices for NHS dentistry do not see the benefit by and large. no wonder so many dentists decide to work outside these NHS constraints....

    Sorry but it feels icky to see them flat out say that someone using the NHS will be getting poorer denture quality than “Private”. Everyone deserves the same and best care provided possible. On top of that, it’s very counterproductive for the NHS to only pay for the worse set of teeth than private because, as they said in the video, the NHS teeth will wear down much quicker and even go as far as to cause new jaw problems for the patient, unlike the private teeth. The NHS will then have to pay for another set of teeth AND pay to fix the jaw problems created by the “cheap” teeth. At that rate, the NHS will end up having to pay a lot more than what the private had to pay. Wtf? Just give the patient the best quality of teeth there is from the beginning so that they don’t have to go through all this pain. It will save money in the long run.

      And it’s not cheaper or more cost effective since they will break more often and will need to be replaced. I had all my teeth pulled in April of 2023 under amnesia for a cost of $5,000.00. I had to go back and get amnesia again to the specialist in late March of 2023 and have all these growths that felt like pointy stalactites, which was another hour operation. Now it's September 6, 2023, the swelling etc. has gone down, and I can soon go to the dentist and start the "getting dentures process". I think I'll take what my dentist thinks will work well on me, economy or a good set as I'm 70 years old. However, I have no idea how much longer I'll live, and I sure would love to start eating normally again, salads, pickles, etc. The cost is secondary as you get what you pay for and for me I hope its a once and done deal. If anyone has any thing to add to this including the nice lady whom put herself out there to show us her mouth toothless, etc. I applaud you. Any advice would be appreciated....

    I just want to be able to smile again. I don't leave the house anymore and I've been very close to just ending it all. I'm 51 and my life is over. That may sound stupid, but it's not to me. I have top dentures and now I need the rest of what I've got left, out after losing my two front bottom teeth. I don't think I can bear both dentures in my mouth. I'm just done.

    • @ofthedifference
      @ofthedifference ปีที่แล้ว +9

      > Samsara -Summer Moon come home Come on now Samsara, you can do it! The good news is after you get the bottom denture in, you'll be home free and never have to go to the dentist again! Your tooth problem will be solved and you can move forward in your life and focus on something that you enjoy! Since you already have gotten used to your top dentures, you are quite capable of getting used to the bottom ones in conjunction with the top ones. I want to share something with you that works for me with the hope it will help you - all you have to do is change your mindset. Instead of telling yourself "I don't think I can bear both dentures in my mouth," change that sentence a little bit by instead telling yourself, "I know I will adjust to wearing both dentures in my mouth." Tell yourself multiple times each day, "I WILL be able to wear both dentures." "I WILL adjust to
      wearing both dentures." Everytime I have told myself "I CAN do it!" when I've had to overcome an obstacle in my life, I did indeed succeed. Use the power of positive thinking by telling yourself over & over that you CAN do it, and you will. If you tell yourself you can't do something, you won't succeed because you have set yourself up for failure by convincing yourself you will fail. When you tell yourself you will be able to do something, you will do it because you've set yourself up to prevail. Ten years ago when my husband died, I was left alone and had to learn to do everything myself at age 61. It's been a long road and I was overwhelmed at times - but what helped me the most was telling myself I COULD do whatever it was I had to do - and everytime I told myself that, I did indeed accomplish what I had to at the time. And one more thing, Samsara - you're only 51 - you're a youngster - cause I have to get my bottom teeth done too and I'm 71 years old. But you've got a lot more going for you because you are able to get your bottom teeth, so please be grateful for that because I don't have the money to get my teeth - I can't get them till I figure out a way to pay for them. And I will figure it out because why? Because I'm a "I can do it!" kinda gal! Just like you are going to become. You are not done, you're only 51 - I don't think I'm done and I'm 71! So cheer up, Samsara - YOU CAN DO IT!!

There in England do the dentists explain the difference in NHS payed teeth and Private paid teeth ,and Do they ever say to the patient " look this is what Your getting with NHS teeth and this is what is available with private paid teeth" . So, being armed with this information ,is it possible to maybe pay the difference and get the better teeth while the government does at least pick up part of the cost?

      we do, but NHS dentist only work towards the UK government funding and unfortunately a lot of cutting edge materials and equipment is not available due to limited budget. Dentists do show to patients the difference and compare, but if they work in full private practices there is no need. only if they work in mixed practices. With private dentistry dentists will spend more time focusing on the detail of every course of treatment provided instead of worrying about the funding, a lot of the tools used in private dentistry to improve treatment is not available under NHS due to budget.

So I have a lisp, I can’t eat because the teeth don’t come together the way they should, the bite is off. I went through 6 surgeries to remove and grind down bone. But now I don’t have enough bone to keep them in , they just pop right off and that’s with strong adhesive. I had an Anaphylactic reaction to one adhesive. I went through so much pain, I’m allergic to Epinephrine so while they were digging out my roots ( my teeth had just started sliding off my gums, I had great teeth but I have Vascular Ehlers Danlos Syndrome among a lot of other health issues) so I felt most of that pain during each ( 6 ) of those separate surgeries. it truly is an absolute disgrace and so wrong how they can expect anyone to live with these non fitting non functioning monstrosities. No one should be expected to live with this and like this just because we are nhs patients and cannot afford a private denture. We should be afforded a working functioning prostheses just like other nhs prosthetics such as limbs

    tbh it's absolute bullshit, i have paid twice for private partial dentures and both sets lasted less than a year? costing me in excess of £700 previous to that i had a make do NHS denture costing £200 that lasted over 2 years???

    • @catsandcrafts171
      @catsandcrafts171 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the first set lasted less than a year, could you not have complained and had them fix/replace? Don't they have guarantees? I only ask because I'm currently having veneers that I'm paying for, and my dentist is fixing things, changing things, and providing an ongoing guarantee with the work/materials. I have NHS for other routine things though. But for the private stuff, I'm be furious if things didn't last long.

    Darlings, if a nurse forgotten your impression in disinfectant, your denture never going to fit nice or fit at all.... And your technician will be just as clueless as your dentist and the nurse, lol. They all will be blaming each other and the nurse will never confess.... she hasn't got a clue that has done something wrong...
    This is only 1 of hundreds of possible errors, mishaps and discrepancies in the process..
    Go to someone who does dentures himself , as Clinical Dental Technician, or Denturust .. preferably an intelligent one and talented ( extremely rare). But if they have other technicians working for them- then you no better off than going to a clueless dentist... best of luck...

    • @catsandcrafts171
      @catsandcrafts171 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why should dentures be different to anything else in life? Healthcare is about functionality, the NHS pays for satisfactory solutions to medical/dental problems. No matter the treatment, there will always be a gold-plated version that costs extra. Dental cosmetics are the same.

      What?! Ok. I wonder if you say that when you have an accident and the ambulance just picks you up without question or a bill, or your GP refers you straight to the clinic the same day if they suspect cancer, for example? I wouldn't be alive without the NHS and I'm sick of our right wing government underfunding for years to try and sell it off, so we can all suffer on insurance like the US. Ugh.

      Why is it a sham? I'd have thought it was the exact opposite to a sham - better materials and more labour time = higher cost. That's about as transparent as it gets.
