Legend, about that multiple engineer ability thing. Yes you can, because the last skill says "number of uses+1" for the ability. So if you have 2 engineers, you can use it 3 times; if you have 3 then you can use it 4 times etc.
Legend: "Alright, as long as we don't engage directly with Malus, we can get him off the battlefield with the army loss." Quarrelers: *Remove Malus from the battlefield* Legend: "Not what I meant, but appreciated."
One of the best parts about this army: Its cheap. The cheapest doomstack the dwarfs can field, by far. Compared to hammerers its pretty funny how much better this stack is and how much more efficient it is as well.
The Runesmith also provides Wardbreaker, which neuters an enemy army's Missile Resistance by 10%. If anything, drop the thanes, get another engie and runesmith. Should be a good combo.
Thorek's campaign is the only one i managed to actually bother finishing, i was genuinly laughing at just how insane his Quarreler's we're in the final battle, they make Thunderer's look like a joke. Thorek ain't kidding when he says old ways are best.
Honestly, the thing I'm loving most is how people are experimenting with the Dwarfs again, trying to figure out which works best/is more fun. The fact that we even considered for a moment a Thorgrim Hammerer doomstack makes me happy, even if it isn't strictly practical.

@@sumgui Do note that the Dwarfs got re-worked with the latest patch, so you actually unlock engineers at tier 3, get +1 at tier 4, and get +2 at tier 5 (same as runesmiths)
@Awellner There's maybe a mod that lets you give those stats to multiplayer games? It would be cheating but if you play against a friend who agrees with it then you shouldn't get banned
@@exantiuse497 there isn't a mod and I doubt there someone will make one. Your best bet is for you and a buddy to play a head to head campain but that easily takes about 100+ turns and a lot of hours for both of you to get that point.
I agree with the rating. This doom stack would have a tough time against an enemy that brings a lot of artillery such as the Empire using hellstorm batteries and steam tanks
I accidentally had this doomstack on Thorek when I just recruited Quarralers in a hurry for a fight. During the battle when the enemy lord died in two seconds I realised that it's a really powerful doomstack. I had two engineers in it to replenish ammo though. This is like the ultimate afk yourself to a victory stack which is sometimes nice to have.
I thought the 50% increased AP on Quareller missiles was such a cool buff. Then I saw it took it from 5 to 10 AP damage and realized how little that meant lol.
It all adds up especially when you have several units of Quarrelers. 5 extra ap per missile is actually pretty huge when you're talking hundreds and even thousands of missiles.
Cavalary is actually fine, just place a decent amount of Ironbreakers in front of them. Theyre done easly. But artillery is a real danger, since you need to approach but thats why Dawi got fast flying war machines + new added Ogre cavalry. Probably cant beat them right now with these buffs, except for Hexwraiths with their 75% physical resistance (even more with fitting leaders)
Actually, in Thorek’s army, Grudge Throwers both outrange Hellstorm Batteries AND are always target seeking. Which makes them really good against rival artillery.
It may be beneficial to leave the runesmith, as he does provide 10% extra missile damage and 10% missile resistance. The one who is out of place is probably the regular thane - he just holds the line, which can be done by the engineer/runesmith easily enough.
Runesmiths don't provide extra missile damage or middle resistance. Their Ward Breaker ability lowers enemy magic and missile resistance by 10% which stacks for each Runesmiths and Runelord. You're right about the Thane, use them as assassin's, scouts or a Thane stack.

not necessarily. if the unit has 0% missile resistance it does nothing. it does not reduce the missile resistance below 0%. it definitely helps vs heroes though. thorek would have also had that ability so it might have been redundant to have -20% missile and magic resistance. not that magic resistance was useful at all since all our attacks were physical
By the codex engineers were pretty much to add to seige units adding master artillery specialist, usually letting you reroll scatter dice or reroll dmg. They should get a seige engine option as a mount.

I prefer to go with 3 grudgethrowers with rune of burning in Thoreks army. They get so many kills and a unit of quarrellers can protect the flanks instead of iron breakers.
I used to run quarrellers as frontline infantry, with backline of armor-piercing missiles such as thunderers. Looks like Thorek's boost to armor-piercing missile damage makes that completely unnecessary.
You have put your ranged units in the wrong order....LOS units with high AP up front, supported by quarrelers behind them is the correct way to maximize effective firepower.
Maybe we should make a split between generic doom stack and special LL doom stack, because yeah this doom stack or Isabellas Vampire stack is pretty strong, but you can only have it once. So it would need a lower rating imo or handle it as a different case (LL doom stack). Unless we figure out how to clone LL.
You don't have to have Isabella to make a vampire stack strong. 19 vampire heroes leveled up properly will destroy anything, regardless of the lord. And if they have the Dread Incarnate trait as well, it just gets stupid.

On a Dawi kick, and I think the engineer is the most underutilized unit. The gyrocopter mount would be amazing, but there needs ro be a lord & legendary lord engineers.
Been using a similar stack with Belegar and Rangers (his skill tree now does Rangers and Miners boosts) and its been rather good. No super runes but do have Ancestor Spirits.
I'd swap those iron breakers for runesmiths. That way you can get all the embedded buffs runesmiths provide. And having single, small entities swarmed is much better friendly fire-wise than multiple entities. At the very least one armour and one armour pen, in case the ammo runs out.
yeah, but Legend doesn't use mods in his streams because he loses 0.003% of what he SHOULD be making. It doesn't make financial sense to just throw away such vast sums of cents.

I think replacing the runesmith is a bad idea for improving the doomstack, since he provides 10% missile damage in addition to his abilities. Instead the thanes should be replaced since their only purpose is to tank and buff the ammunition of the ironbreakers. And have 2 more engineers with the grudgeraker so the engineer can have increased health, missile defense and armor, while also buffing ammo and missile strength which is something this doomstack could really utilize. Plus, with the restock ability, they actually provide more ammo to the ironbreakers
Without the thanes tanking, the quarrelers would take much more casualties. You could maybe drop one of them for an engineer, but definitely not both. 10% missile strength + runesmith abilities are not worth as much as all the buffs engineers give for this army. Especially when the army already has thorek.

nah, they are just more expensive. quarrelers are „decent in melee“ - but not on legendary difficulty. if your front quarrelers end up in melee, its better they hold the line longer so you can shoot the enemies with your back line. and regular quarrelers have better defense. the tiny bit of ap damage & attack rating is not worth losing the shields & defense stats
I'm curious as to the reasoning for giving the Grudge Throwers a Master Rune of Disguise? My guess is primarily so that nothing will try to target it, especially with spells, so that you can always have its long range if necessary. Otherwise I'd pop on a rune of seeking; I love that thing on Grudge Throwers.

This is how I prefer to play Dawi, though now I always bring along a unit of Mournfang Cavalry to mop up the enemy.

You have put your ranged units in the wrong order....LOS units with high AP up front, supported by quarrelers behind them is the correct way to maximize effective firepower.

Maybe we should make a split between generic doom stack and special LL doom stack, because yeah this doom stack or Isabellas Vampire stack is pretty strong, but you can only have it once. So it would need a lower rating imo or handle it as a different case (LL doom stack). Unless we figure out how to clone LL.
You don't have to have Isabella to make a vampire stack strong. 19 vampire heroes leveled up properly will destroy anything, regardless of the lord. And if they have the Dread Incarnate trait as well, it just gets stupid.

Hi, can someone please explain to me how the Quarrellers have 184 range? Engineers +range skill has been removed so i dont get it. I dont see any skills on Thorek that increase range either. Thank you

Kinda funny seeing an engineer boost Thorek's army and giving him a canon barrage, seeing how he despises the newer technologies.
This is where goblins would be harder to kill than elves as their shields and their numbers eat all of your ammo.
On a Dawi kick, and I think the engineer is the most underutilized unit. The gyrocopter mount would be amazing, but there needs ro be a lord & legendary lord engineers.

Been using a similar stack with Belegar and Rangers (his skill tree now does Rangers and Miners boosts) and its been rather good. No super runes but do have Ancestor Spirits.
I'd swap those iron breakers for runesmiths. That way you can get all the embedded buffs runesmiths provide. And having single, small entities swarmed is much better friendly fire-wise than multiple entities.
At the very least one armour and one armour pen, in case the ammo runs out.
I believe that master eng. should make artillery in battle, stationary one...

yeah, but Legend doesn't use mods in his streams because he loses 0.003% of what he SHOULD be making. It doesn't make financial sense to just throw away such vast sums of cents.

I think it's so weird that one hero tanks way better than a unit of ironbreakers. they are supposed to be the immovable wall but if you really need to hold the line you better get a thane for safety
I think replacing the runesmith is a bad idea for improving the doomstack, since he provides 10% missile damage in addition to his abilities. Instead the thanes should be replaced since their only purpose is to tank and buff the ammunition of the ironbreakers. And have 2 more engineers with the grudgeraker so the engineer can have increased health, missile defense and armor, while also buffing ammo and missile strength which is something this doomstack could really utilize. Plus, with the restock ability, they actually provide more ammo to the ironbreakers
Without the thanes tanking, the quarrelers would take much more casualties. You could maybe drop one of them for an engineer, but definitely not both.
10% missile strength + runesmith abilities are not worth as much as all the buffs engineers give for this army. Especially when the army already has thorek.
@@Loj84 You can spec engineers to be a bit more tanky now, and they don't do much worse then a thane. No reason to have a thane.
@@Loj84 Maybe you could go with 4 engineers and no other heroes, but thanes just aren't that much tankier than engineers with grudgeraker, and with engineers having the army ability, a magic missile, a slow, replenish ammo, and army buffs, there is no good reason to have a thane
Dwarves really need mountaingoat mounts for their thane heroes, or atleast gyrocopters like you said for master engineers.
You can still stack engineer damage buff and speed buff. If you have 4-5 engineers you get upwards of 205 missile damage and 50 speed on ur quarrelers

Also I wonder how this would perform with Great Weapon Quarrellers? Or maybe 1/2 & 1/2. As long as your ammo holds out, shields are unquestionably better, but once you're in melee the GW may provide more benefit.
nah, they are just more expensive. quarrelers are „decent in melee“ - but not on legendary difficulty. if your front quarrelers end up in melee, its better they hold the line longer so you can shoot the enemies with your back line. and regular quarrelers have better defense. the tiny bit of ap damage & attack rating is not worth losing the shields & defense stats
I'm curious as to the reasoning for giving the Grudge Throwers a Master Rune of Disguise?
My guess is primarily so that nothing will try to target it, especially with spells, so that you can always have its long range if necessary. Otherwise I'd pop on a rune of seeking; I love that thing on Grudge Throwers.

i think the reason why the runesmith is in the army is cause of wardbreaker which reduces magic and missle res by 10% not sure if thorek gets this trait in his skill tree
You can get an engineer up to 74 speed with the right equipment and start attribute
