    Twenty-six years ago (before you were probably born) I had my kitchen renovated and asked my contractor if he could distress a wooden island top. He was thrilled and went to town, whacking it with a chain, hammering various tools, etc. He did a great job, however, I thought the top still looked a bit too new and smooth between the various impressions, so I went outside and scooped a bucket of pea stone and gravel and threw it across the top. Then a laid a board on top and hammered the board, driving the stone slightly into the wood. Rolled the stone around and whacked it again. The end result was subtle and perfectly aged. Over the years, I've used my island for all sorts of projects and deliberately leave it unprotected to enhance its imperfections. And I still love it!

    Really nice and very neat solution to a big pair of problem children!
    Maybe run some sandpaper over the rolling surfaces of the wheels so they look like they've many miles/kilometers of use - or not 😁Great work on the metal pulls, they look like they have a a few generations of use.
    As always, super job, Angie and your furry supervisor!

    Well the outcome wasn’t what I was expecting and I love it. I remember my mum painting 2 set of drawers for my sister and my bedroom in nearly the same way and in green. I did a feature wall in my store using deliberately mismatched pallet wood to try to simulate barn boards, and I made a stain for aging it by soaking old rusty nails in vinegar for 24 hours. Then you can just wipe the vinegar on the wood and it'll turn it a sort of dusty grey which looks very close to old, rough wood.

    • @TranscendFurnitureGallery
      @TranscendFurnitureGallery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Yes! That trick works so well! I love that you can adjust the strength by simply how long it sits. That wall sounds amazing!

    • @mimi2the4
      @mimi2the4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Steel wool works too if you don't have rusty nails....but when my mom put a Poly sealer over it (bathroom cabinets) it changed from the pretty gray to a nasty orange....so I gave her some of my trusty Odies Oil (thanks Angie) and that kept the gray tones

    • @bekahmarie489
      @bekahmarie489 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@mimi2the4 Yeah, poly's anti-yellowing stuff tends to react with vinegar and makes it turn orange. At least from personal experience when I used it a few times.

    Angie, I'm not crazy about the pine top with the dark finish. (I almost NEVER dislike anything you do! I think you are perfection personified! So... that's just my individual preference. Otherwise, I loved this). One other thing: You always begin the reveal with a close up and I find that I want to see the ENTIRE thing FIRST and then have you zoom in on the various details from different angles. I often feel that I haven't seen enough of the finished piece. You spend SO MUCH TIME on each piece, I want to revel in the finished masterpiece!

    It would be rude of me to say that Nacho was my favorite part of the video, but he was a close second! I think you work is amazing and you truly are a furniture artist, well because you are an artist! I do have a question about Fusion Mineral paint and I know you might not have the time to answer, but thought I would ask anyway. How long do you let FM paint dry before waxing it? And do you ever use polyurethane as a top coat on FM? I have had some discoloration issues and wondering if I needed to wait more than a day to seal it. Thanks again for your wonderful, helpful and soothing videos! Give Nacho a little hug for me💗

    • @TranscendFurnitureGallery
      @TranscendFurnitureGallery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't normally use a polyurethane over paint mainly because it tends to amber, whether right away or over time. If I DO use an additional topcoat, it's either a wax or a water based polycrylic. A day is usually enough time to wait to seal though. If you've been using an oil based one, try out a water based one- you'll likely see an improvement right away. It could also be bleed though, if you haven't primed over certain woods that are prone to tannin bleed. I don't always prime with fusion, as I almost never have adhesion issues, but If I'm painting a light colour over a tannin rich wood, I would. :-) Hope that helps!

    ANGIE, LOVE IT!! Option 1 or 2....meh lets do option 3 😁 For me coming up with ideas on the fly always seems to bring out the coolest peices so I am loving seeing you do that here with AMAZING results. It's fun hearing you go though the thought process of creating. Sometimes you just have to not think and start doing to see what the piece tells you it wants. I love the 3 little drawers in the top...so cool. This is one I would have in my house for sure. Industrial feel with color ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    I absolutely love what you did to these two pieces! I always like what you do! I don’t blame you for not wanting to sell it! I love how Nacho “helps” you!

    Nacho is so cute!
    Does he have an extra toe like the Hemingway cats?

    I had to laugh when you started making them look wormy and scratched up. Don't get me wrong, I love this look so much, but all the videos I watch try to hide or repair all these things and here you are making these look old. Usually your furniture looks very high end MCM, but you took a vacation from your usual and turned out a beautiful piece of furniture I might actually be able to duplicate. Thank you so much. I hope you have another vacay again sometime.

    Unrelated, but I saw that ZEP brand cleaner (my poor eyesight forbids me from knowing what it actually is) and I gotta say, that company makes the best darn cleaners I have ever used in all my days

    Absolutely love! You did an amazing job and it does look 100 years old! I know the controversy of banging up the top and adding wear and tear, but I think it's well worth the effects. Thank you!

    For $180 asking price I think the seller should at least have cleaned the outside of these. Either way the end result looks very professional and Nacho steals the show as usual. 😻

    I love this piece so much it is taking a leading role in a book I’m trying to write. Steam punk ish/ medieval / cyberpunk adventure.
