- ARMY…today we dipped our toes into Jin’s new single, “THE ASTRONAUT,” which we discovered to be a beautiful ode / love song for ARMY!
Our intro was inspired by Jin’s comedic and fun-loving personality. While we thought this song was about to blast us into space, it ended up making us feel more comfortable (and loved) right here on this beautiful Earth we call HOME 🙏🏽💜

There are sooo many details in this MV that mostly only armys will be able to notice/understand and here are a few that really stands out. I hope it helps you guys understand why it is such an emotional one for the fandom.
- There are many other BTS MVs where they used a small girl to represent the fandom so the girl here represents the fandom, ARMY.
- She's wearing a purple helmet in a later shot(purple is the official colour of the fandom) It was black first because purple was never a special colour to the fandom until after a few years of their debut when Taehyung gave it a meaning. So it kind of signifies and captures a small detail of the timeline of BTS and ARMY, in a sense.
- The girl is around 9-10 years old..the same as ARMYS age as the fandom was formed around 10 years back
-If you look closely there is a braille tattoo on his neck and it reads "ARMY" 🥺
- The suit Jin wears at the beginning of the MV resembles the one he wore to the first day of school in real life (there is a photo of 4-year-old him wearing a suit that looks exactly like that) The kid's drawing on the wall shows him wearing the same suit once again. It's basically to show his past and innocence, reminiscence of his lyrics from "Yet to come" : "Somewhere deep inside your heart, there still lives a young boy"
- The blackened-out spaces on the crossword (in braille) reads "For ARMY"
- The guitar you see in his room is the same guitar Chris Martin signed and gifted Jin when they met.
- If you notice when he was on the street people ignored him but the "astronaut" caught his attention. Jin was cast on the streets randomly by a Bighit staff who saw him get off the bus. He never intended to be a kpop-idol and never auditioned. So the astronaut here could represent the company itself who found him literally on the street one day.
- The shot of his room has elements that represent all BTS members - Books = Namjoon, Guitar = Yoongi, Instant camera = Jhope, Flowerpot (like his "serendipity" bubble) = Jimin, Vinyl player/Boston bag= Taehyung, Speaker/Radio = Jungkook) They're all there, close to him.
In a way, Jin was like a lost astronaut that happened to crash land on earth which was unfamiliar to him just like how he ended up as a part of BTS without ever dreaming for such a path. It was unfamiliar and he was unsure about it, until he met the little girl (army) who cherished him and to whom he taught things only to realise later how they both made each other happy. He realised home was where his "family" is ; his family comprising of his 6 brothers and ARMYs.
Towards the end, Jin looks hopeful and eager as he hears the sound of the bicycle bell which indicates that the little girl(army) is waiting right outside; that when he returns back from the military, army will be waiting for him.
These are just a few but there are soo many other details. I hope you react to his LIVE performance too (You must listen to the speech Chris Martin gave before the actual performance. It's emotional but beautiful all at the same time 💜)
There truly is so much symbolism in this MV, and it truly is a heartfelt message from JIN to ARMY. Thank you for pointing out so many things that many might miss or be unaware of. BTS has always put so much thought and emotional things into all they do-they speak volumes over and above the lyrics and this is why I love them! The kindest hearts and caring seven! BORAHAE!! 💜

Someone on Twitter commented that the bicycle bell Jin hears in the last scene is another nod to Army. When contemplating names for the fandom Bells was one option in the running.

The little girl represents ARMY. She gave him company when he was lonely, helped him adapt and made him happy. Before he's leaving, he taught ARMY how to ride a bike and gave them his helmet to protect them and make ARMY look after ourselves, so that we'll be okay when he's not with us. But his decision not to go back to his own planet shows that even if he's away from us for a little while, he'll come back to us and Bangtan as we're his home.
Fun fact : the truck at the end is a representation of Bangtans bond as that truck plays a cameo role in many many videos.
There are several not so hidden secrets in the MV that are so incredibly kind and loving and some that are directly to the Army such as the message in braille on the crossword puzzle. There are references to each BTS member, ect. It’s an incredible song & MV!

some back stories and what you might miss from the mv :
1. jin said when he's inside the house is a green screen in korea. but the outside shoots was a neighborhood set in america the one used in wandavision series the Westview neighborhood
2. there was a braille tattoo for "ARMY" on his neck.
the same braille alphabet showed on the crossword he filled in (the black one). it says "FOR ARMY"
3. he is the astronaut from outer space the alien who's stranded on earth
4. army speculated that the girl is about 10 years old bcs
the opening when his spaceship still burning there's no tree around the ship. but there's a few when he get back to the ship later. it needs at least 10 years for a seed/plant to grow to become a tree. (just showing the time frame he's stranded on earth) but also that's how long we've been together so far. bts & army 🥲
5. the little girl represents army. he always said army changed him to become a better person & happier that's exactly what the little girl taught him in the video.
but the little girl also learn how to ride a bike from jin. just like how army learn something from bts.
the way jin give the cheer when the girl finally succeed was like a hint for us to stay strong on our own especially bcs we know they need to enlist soon.
6. the drawing of a house on top of the earth (he finally found home here. on earth) with the little girl and her family --- ARMY
7. the space ship flew without him meaning he's coming back to the house to the lil girl and her bike (we can hear the bell at the end right) he's coming back to army🥲🥲🥲

The little girl is ARMY. She looks about 10 years old which is how long ARMY has been with BTS. In beginning crash scene there are no trees around the ship. But when he goes to it to leave you see trees have grown around it so several years have passed inferring our time with Jin & BTS. The drawing at the end with HOME written atop - this references Jin’s song Moon where he claims he is the moon and ARMYs are the earth. His “home” is always with ARMY and he displays his love for us many times in the video. The braille on his neck spells out ARMY, but also the black squares on the crossword also spell out ARMY.
This song is a temporary goodbye to us. When Jin is helping the little girl learn how to ride a bike, before he lets go she shakes her head expressing how she’s not ready to be on their own, but Jin is confident in her abilities and let’s her try by herself - a bit how he knows we will be okay on our own, but he will always be there for us.

After seeing Jin perform with Coldplay in Argentina, my heart was full. What a wonderful place the world would be if the message, the music, the smiles and laughter coming from a British band and a Korean singer could influence how we think about and see each other. Jin sounds angelic and this song is such a gift from him to remember him while he’s away. He loves us so much and we love him back and we’ll wait eagerly for his return. btw, Jin performed this at a Coldplay concert at Argetina. Hope you react to it, it was so wholesome, make sure to watch it with Chris' speech. His words towards Jin and BTS really touched a lot of hearts and made me respect their friendship even more 😭💜
I saw lot of fancams after the concert, everyone was literally crying while hugging each other for comfort. Everyone felt Jin's and Coldplay's heart.
Jin will be enlisting in december at the military, it's a song for army and bts for a while he's gone. The girl is representing bts and army. As Jin said in an interview, Jin is an alien who crashed in earth, for a while as the ship is getting repaired (to be exact, 10 years because of the trees growing beside the ship at the end of the mv because it takes 10 years for a tree to fully grow referencing to 10 years since bts' debut) the memories he created with the little girl made him stay, his home, in the earth. He found home here and decided to stay. All throughout the mv, he never cracked a smile prior to him being an alien but as he sees the little girl succesfully riding the bike on her own, he smiled, knowing the little girl has learned to ride on her own without him. It's a last gift for a while before him enlisting so everyone is really emotional with this song.
A twt from one army, @anotherrunperson, credits says, that didn't feel like a "see you in a bit" or "goodbye for a while". that felt like "i know where home is and I'll always find my way back"
at the end of the mv, you can hear the little girl's bicycle bell, saying that until Jin comes back, we'll still be here.
The little girl is Army. Jin's lower register, the purple galaxy and the words on the crossword puzzle killed me. Astronaut, Army, cozy, star, moon, family. It is really a beautiful love song for Army from Jin! 💜💜💜
Chris Martin and his son Moses sing the background vocals. Coldplay wrote and performs the music. Jin and Chris Martin co-wrote the lyrics. Did everyone notice the guitar Chris gave Jin sitting on the couch and notice Chris Martin is the newscaster? 💜

I wanted to cry after I heard this song, it really felt like he was serenading ARMY. Sending Jin and the others off for awhile isn't going to be easy for anyone. For almost ten years it's been BTS and ARMY together with even more to come. We're extremely lucky that we got to spend extra time with Jin since he would have originally had to have left around 2019/2020 if he hadn't gotten the two year extension. I hope he gets the grandest farewell we can give him when he joins the military.

Still I couldn't watch the mv due to some personal reasons but still I'm overwhelmed, I wonder what would be my emotional state after watching the MV. I wrote a long message and just deleted it as most of what I wrote had already been written, the explanation etc. As for the rest it was to thank you for the effort you made with the costumes and introduction to Jin’s song. Like many I was excited to hear you review Jin for the first time and especially as it is such a different song to what he usually sings with very much a Coldplay influence and singing in his lower register which is unusual for him. As you can gather by the comments and if you have read other peoples reviews the song is well loved and recognised for what it is a song of Jin’s confession of what Army means to him and his commitment to us for the future, a beautiful as you say mellow reassuring song full of loving warmth and emotion as only Jin can convey. The movie says it all and conveys the words of the song beautifully. I will be perfectly honest with you though I expected a more detailed review as you have done with the others. I appreciate you went over the lyrics which are so meaningful to the Army and as it was a song gifted to him by Coldplay therefore you noticed the vibes and Chris Martins backing vocals. I gather you may have never heard any of Jin’s other solos as you did not comment on him singing in his lower register which is unusual for him. This is very different from his other solos as well which made me realise you have not listened to any of his other solo songs which is a shame. I think this song was well chosen as it conveys what he wanted to say well and his collaboration with Coldplay is very meaningful for Jin as they have always been his favourite band. There connection started when the BTS covered ‘Fix You’ where Jin received so many accolades for his part, they all killed it but I think Jin and V shone in the song. I hope you get a chance to review some of his other solo’s such as ‘Epiphany’ ‘Awake’, ‘Moon’ or my other favourites’Tonight and Abyss’. I loved the introduction ❤ Ugh watching you guys react to The Astronaut just got me in tears all over again. I can’t describe the love I have for BTS, and it makes me so happy and emotional knowing that love is deeply reciprocated.😭 They sacrificed so much for ARMY, Jin said they planned to enlist way back when they released BE album but then they released Dynamite and it was a hit, so they continued despite all the criticism and hate they were getting. Definitely need to react to Jin’s live!

the intro was so funny omg!!!
this was a very emotional release. i had been doing pretty well with the news up until this. i cried for 20 minutes when it first came out and then on and off again for the rest of my day. i sobbed for like an hour on the way home from school while listening to the song. the live performance was the worst of it for sure. i had a full blown breakdown at that point. i think it had finally hit me that's he, and eventually all of the tannies, won't be around for a while. they've been with me since i was 15 years old and are the only reason I'm alive today. now, 6 years later, I'm 21 and graduating college and getting a real job and i have to do all of that without them being here in the same capacity as before. the thing is, i know i can do it without them. they've helped me grown and learn and become so strong. just like the little girl in the mv, who represented army. they've always been preparing us for this. that doesn't stop if from being terrifying and so incredibly hard. They're my lifeline and i don't remember what it's like not constantly having them around. I'll be okay though, I'll figure it out and be right here waiting for them when they come back. to quote namjoon, "we'll find a way, we always have. if there's no way, we'll redraw the map."
Jin's character in this MV is a drifting extraterrestrial who crash landed on earth. He had his chance to return to his planet, but found "HOME" in earth. BTS x ARMY are his home, the love he found along the way. Lots of metaphors and symbolisms and messages in this MV alone. 😭💜

This beautiful man has received so much hate for not enlisting sooner but every time he planned it was postponed for the sake of Army and the members. He was meant to enlist after Festa but the members convinced him to postpone so they could do the Busan concert and he thought it impolite not to do it for Army so he postponed once again, the whole time receiving hate mail for not enlisting. As the eldest he has born the brunt of the criticism. He will now do his training in the winter which is notoriously hard which is why he wanted to enrol in the summer as we all know he hates the cold. But for the love of Army and his members he will now have to do this and as usual, as is his manner, he says ‘hyung will do it for you’.
He is my bias as I love his voice and style of singing the best. The fact that he can sing any genre and can sing the perfect falsetto and at the same time belt like no one else and as this song shows sing beautifully in his lower register always amazes me. But what has drawn me to Jin more than anything over these last five years is his personality. For a quiet, shy introverted man he always puts himself out to ensure the group is comfortable in any situations. Will make fun of himself to make the shows fun and entertaining if he thinks the others are too serious as he wants Army to be entertained and he never shows us his vulnerable and sad side if he can help it. He has quietly supported RM in his role as leader and his friendly way with the younger members and not the usual Korean hierarchy way helped the group to become as close as they are. He is one of the most humble, well mannered (known as the manner idol) kind, generous ,emotionally intelligent, creative and intellectual person that you could meet. That is why all the members are always vying for his attention. All his solo songs are worth reviewing and would show you the versatility in his voice. From no singing experience to the Grammy panel calling him the ‘Silver Voice’ he has come along way all through his own hard work. We will all miss him for the next couple of years but will be waiting for him. I am seventy years old now just had a great party which was BTS themed surprising many of my peers but as my daughters said it makes me happy and that’s the main thing. I have seen the great bands in my younger years loved the music but not their lifestyle. They showed young people the wrong way to conduct their lives, drugs alcohol and sex whilst BTS teach love yourself, be kind to others, help others. That is why in my opinion best band in my lifetime this and last century. Thank you for always having great reviews and your wonderful life messages which are on par with BTS. it wasn't the same truck car that often appears in BTS' mvs, but i still think that its meaning can transcend the BU universe. the difference in cars is enough to separate in from BU, but the similarity in them makes me think that it's not a coincidence. truck in BTS MVs always represented the friendship between 7 of them, their happy memories together, and Jin as the oldest was always the one driving it with other boys inside. this time it drives him _home_ to the girl (ARMY) who became his family. he thanks us for giving him a dream to live for, but points at who he took this path with: his brothers

I went to the theater for the Coldplay concert and it was really healing, and seeing Jins amazing performance had me in tears. I'm looking forward to when you get to watch it too! Jin is the alien / astronaut who crashed into earth… the mv starts with him watching his burning spaceship. He then finds this little girl (army/BTS) and learns to love and finds a family on earth. His spaceship is repaired and he’s called back so he can leave earth but he realizes that he has a home now and decides not to get on the spaceship. As an international college student who is so far away from home this whole song and the message behind it had me in tears, I long for the day I get to back home but cherish the beautiful moments I make meanwhile. This song is absolutely beautiful and I got emotional watching and listening to it.
Not sure if this is correct, but I interpreted it as this: He's an astronaut from another planet and crash landed to Earth. He's been waiting for a chance to leave and in the meantime, made friends with the little girl and has been enjoying his time here. One day, he hears the news of a new ship and sees the beacon, jumps up and is ready to leave. By the time he gets to his ship, he realizes that he doesn't want to leave and that this is his home so he decides to stay and head back.
There's so many references to Army in this and I believe that Earth and the little girl represents Army, his home. I think it's just a dedication to us and even though he's leaving for a short time, he'll be back because we (Army and BTS) are his home and family. That's why its so emotional and he gives that look in the end. It's not a goodbye, but an, "I'll see you soon."

Jin is a professional actor with a graduate acting degree from the top college of korea whose acceptance rate is very high. he was the first candidate to be accepted in that university before the process of admission actually take place. Hi guys ! The little girl is representing ARMY. Jin is an alien( the astronaut ), his facial expressions depict the unknown ( his future), his loneliness ( the uncertain life of an idol ?). The little girl helps him adapt ( Army shows him the way ) , he decides to not go back to his other life cause for him now, BTS and Army are his family ( which he writes in the crossword puzzle). The pick-up truck represents BTS (for this pick-up truck is seen on other BTS videos( and the guys are happy while riding it all 7 together). So he smiles on this pick-up, cause he knows with BTS he’ll be ok , and knows the little girl is waiting back home ( thus the home drawing), so basically he’s happy with his choice. To me it means : I love you Army for being with me, for guiding me, and loving me throughout my hard BTS journey, and yes, it’s time to leave ( military service), but you’ll be in my heart, and I’ll be back, so ….in the meantime , stay safe and healthy (hence putting his helmet on the little girl) . The little girl’s ring ring at the end , for me , it’s Jin’s way of saying: you see , I’m back to play with you again ! Btw, yes , Chris Martin does sing with Jin at a certain moment ( and in Korean too )and does do background vocals. He is also the reporter in disguise on the tv. The guitar in Jin’s bedroom, is the real guitar Chris gifted Jin with. There’s lots of other Easter eggs in this video that I’m sure Army will inform you both. AND YESSSS ! So in the shot where he was walking on the street basically nobody was acknowledging him. Not in the street, not when he held out his hand asking for a ride. He was only TRULY seen twice; by the girl he made a bond with (who represents army) and then by the pick-up truck that stopped and brought him home. The pickup truck is not new to us; you'll see a similar truck in the BU and in the Highlight reels. The truck in BTS MVs always represented the friendship between 7 of them and their memories so it is no coincidence. It was a significant part of that era where all 7 of the boys used to hop on and go around on that same black truck and Jin being the eldest was the one to always take the wheels. In short, it signifies how he felt like he was truly accepted and seen only by his members and ARMYs. It made me SOO EMOTIONAL. This MV has soo much meaning and symbolism in it 😭

I absolutely love this song and especially all the wonderful hidden messages in this MV, each of them are well thought out and so very thoughtful & loving! Jin spent time with the little girl (ARMY) and taught her to ride a bicycle on her own and be independent, so she'll be okay while he was gone (while he spends 2 years away from us in the military) but then he came back and the girl (ARMY) was still waiting for Jim outside his window. The girl here could represent the BTS members as well. He raised them, saw them growing up and was there for them as their hyung.

I mean I don’t really know what to say because you guys said and covered it all. This song is so meaningful and will touch the hearts of every Army. In all honesty I struggle to listen to this song especially knowing what’s happening. Every time I hear it or watch it I just feel so emotional and cry every time. However at the same time it does bring so much comfort which is what we will all need. We will forever love and support each and every member no matter what and we will be right by there side as they embark on a new journey. And we will be right here waiting when they come out. This is how I interpreted the story line:
- in the beginning, we see Jin sitting with his helmet lookin at his broken spacecraft. He is an astronaut from another planet who crashed on Earth.
- Then we see him in a room. Personally I think he was in the little girl's house because you can see in the doodles that he was looking at (the doodles were probably drawn by the girl), there was a picture of jin in the suit he arrived in, a picture of a family with an astronaut (the little girl and her parents), and a picture of jin with his helmet on and the little girl leading him to a house. So I believe he's trying to show that armys took him in and gave him a home where he can feel welcomed in this unfamiliar planet.
- The next scene, where Jin is lying on the ground, he looks out the window and sees a beam of light. It came from his spacecraft, so Jin knew that it was his time to go. (Him enlisting in the military)
- In between Jin returning to his spacecraft, there is a lot of flashbacks of moments of Jin and the little girl. Jin teaches the girl how to ride a bike, the girl plays with him under the water sprinkler, and the both of them have fun when they are together.
- Jin smiles when he is riding his bike towards his spacecraft because he is reminded of the time he spent with the little girl.
- when he finally reaches his ship, the ship floats and starts to work again, but he realizes that he doesn't actually want to leave, so you see him kind of look shocked and run away from the ship. This is the moment where Jin realizes that home is not where he originally came from anymore, home is where army is, so he runs away from the ship, hitchhikes, and returns back to the little girl.
- The last scene showed that Jin returned to the little girl, and everything went back to normal: the little girl continued to find Jin, and Jin continued to wait for the girl to come play with him. Symbolizing that even after Jin goes to the military, ARMYs and Bangtan's relationship would not change. We will continue to be each other's home :)
*tiny detail: Jin seems expressionless and stiff throughout the video because he is not from Earth, and he wears a suit that doesn't fit because he doesn't understand the normality of Earth. But we see him start to simile more after meeting and spending more time with the little girl, which connects to the doolset note where jin says that armys are the ones who made Jin who he is today, and made him shine wherever he goes.

It's not a reference to it but I remembered that scene also the fact that Jin stayed for us is just so heartwarming
