- First stop on our Big trip we get an invite to meet Pat and his '69 W-31 he bought brand new! Social media works wonders sometimes and we ended up in Pennsylvania to check this 1 owner W-machine out and meet the very kind husband and wife who have always known life with this Oldsmobile. Follow along the great stories and timeline of events that led to the purchase and life-long ownership of an iconic muscle car!

Steve what a cool video that was so awesome to see its takes me back to my youth when these old cars were just the norm to see at every stop lite,parking lot , by baseball games what I would do to go back to the mid to late 70s for a day and buy them all lol. Every time he mentioned a date or when I saw the time slips I’m was like where was I then and how old was I. I was born aug 9, 1967. That video made my day I was able to back in time and reminisce my younger days when I had my 1070 W-30 4 speed that my dad came and took me out of school that day and we went and bought the car for 2500.00 in late march of 1985. One of my biggest mistakes in life was selling it to a friend in early 90s and he still has it. Thanks again Steve for sharing the was a beautiful car and so cool to see would love to see it in person.

I remember reading in popular hot rodding it's been a few years ago now. When you purchase the w- 31 option I believe it was 71 possibly even 72 power brake was a delete. They're simply was not enough air in order to run the power brake booster because of the radical profile of cam. Those were great days.
Good evening to you. Your are correct when you say that power brakes were simply not available with the W-31 package. This was because the cam profile did in fact reduce engine vacuum thereby minimizing the effectiveness of a power brake booster. The W-31 (ram rod 350) was only available in 1968,69 and 70. Maybe you're referring to the year of the magazine issue when you mentioned 1971 or 72.?

Steve would there of been a tacho in the far right hand side dash pod as standard fitment in the W 31 ?

There was a 69 or 70 w31 in west branch Michigan. I used to stop and look at it at a friends uncles house. It disappeared around 1990 Wish I knew who got it!
We love these stories! Anyway you can recall if it was a 69 or a 70? There's a pretty significant body style change between those two model years. What details do you remember about it?

My 1970 Olds W31 has 32,000 actual miles and complete documentation. Two owner car. Original owner lives in Calgary Canada.

Yeah, the Sports Coupes (post coupes) are rarer than Holiday Coupes. Because nobody wanted them then. People now who try to claim that Sports Couple are worth more because "low numbers" are crazy IMO. I'd never pay more for a Sports Coupe. (FWIW, I own a 68 Cutlass S convertible and a 68 442 Holiday coupe.)

i bet they forgot the shroud when they re installed the front clip.not a big deal.
running 3 grand on the highway was no problem for these cars,the cam didnt kick in until you to 3 grand.

This particular car never had a fan shroud. While we all know the party doesn't start until 3K, it's still buzzing along pretty good! Had mine out today and yes, its perfectly happy at 3k but there's no mistaking that you're more than 1/2 way to redline.
