    The fact that Professor Cohen is largely ignored by the Media in the US is a travesty. In this time of uncertainty and possible war, we need voices of reason and experience, yet we have mediocre 'journalists" like Jake Tapper and Co. directing the narrative on US - Russia relations. It is truly a scary moment. Thank you Abby and Professor Cohen for providing some reason and thoughtful insight into this crazy world.

    This is what Abby Martin needed to understand (concerning Putin) when she was at RT. As the saying goes, "Better late than never." I'm glad she's done this interview with Stephen Cohen and appears to be growing. I wouldn't even tweak what Stephen Cohen said in this interview. It's that right on.

    Interestingly, the importance of the role of citizens is mentioned in the interview as well. The example of Syria brought in the movie, where the effects of war and conflict on ordinary people are immense and devastating, illustrates this point. The case of the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a perfect depiction of this. It shows that human life should also be taken into account. I am an Armenian, and hearing about Syria made me think of the experience we went through. On the other hand, it makes me think of the active participation of citizens in shaping healthier and more peaceful relations as much as they have the capacity to do it.

    I just recently became fully aware of who Abby is, though I believe I did witness her walking off the set at RT. The spin at the time was that she quit. I just recently learned that she continued working there for almost a year, and continues to stick up for RT's editorial practices. I begin to wonder where I was, but my ignorance is perhaps just evidence of the depth of the alt media. I am by no means ignorant or a dupe of the corporate media, but I seem to learn about new heroes every day. Thank you, Abby. I will be following you now.

    He is surprised the journalism schools are silent. I took a course in journalistic ethics in my senior year in the School of Journalism at University of Oregon in 1986. I would be surprised if half of the currently working journalists ever have taken such a course. Indeed, for me, as a print-journalism trainee, the course was an elective.

    everyone needs to see this. my opinion of trunkp on foreign policy has just changed.
    but, Obama's incursion in Ukraine in Russia's sphere of influence, was on behalf of nneoliberalism- the IMF and corporate control of resources and spending, and trunkp has appointed corporatists to his cabinet. So won't tillerson want those resources for America? and won't that be a problem?
    excellent interview

    Excellent interview. It reminded me of an episode of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History titled "Poking the Bear". Pushing NATO closer and closer to Russia's borders is essentially poking a caged bear with a stick. The U.S. is playing a very dangerous game here.

    If USA & all NATO members would be strong enough to fight Russia, Russia would never take back Crimea and support Syria what means Russia has weapons (except the nuclear weapons) that US & NATO can't deal with at least at the moment!

  • @lifestyleam-k3d
    @lifestyleam-k3d 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Main idea: The main idea was the danger of that moment and, as a result, the emergence of a new and possibly even more dangerous cold war/ confrontation between the two superpowers. The expansion of the NATO forces, The prominent leaders’ speeches of the United States, for example, Obama’s direct threats in his speech, can be viewed as a declaration of war to the Kremlin.
    Personal connection: Let’s explore the same idea on a more personal level. In personal relationships, the period after a conflict decides the quality of the relationship and whether it will continue to last or not. Conflict can be solved logically. However, if the other person starts to constantly remind parts of the conflict or negative sides, it will forever harm the relationship. I had a friend who, after the conflict could not get over. It was emotionally hard to keep up with her, and eventually, our relationship came to an end. In contrast, in most of my other personal relationships both of us have higher emotional intelligence, and try to be calm after conflicts, avoiding offensive words.

      Sorry, my Russian is very bad. I think you agree with me that US corporate media - owned by six corporations - hides the truth of Russia from most of US citizens. We don't get much international news here, unless we use the Internet a lot..
      I've been to the Soviet Union, long ago. My piano teacher was a Soviet defector. I love the Russian people. My favorite subways are in Moscow.
      I do not like Trump. I did not like Reagan.

    With all due respect to the late Professor Cohen, I’ve seen most of his interviews on Democracy Now! and frankly he disappoints me. He’s 100% dead on when he criticizes the US industrial military complex, but he tends to downplay the federations actions. From where I sit the US industrial military complex and the Russian Federation are simply opposite sides of the same coin. Different cultures, different models of government certainly, but the same imperialist mentality.
