Our Rivian is Undrivable at 8 Days | All of the Issues With Our R1S. Service Issues and Failures

  • See how our service with our new Rivian goes when it disables itself on day 8. Complicated suspension system fails plus other issues. Is Rivian trying too hard to be like Range Rover which is known for suspension failures? Did we make a bad decision buying this so far from a service center?

    Can confirm - the 12V replacement + software update solves all the issues. I had the same issue 2.5 weeks ago. Had vehicle back for 1.5weeks now and it's better than new.

      They basically just rushed the product out as fast as they can to sell their stock on IPO day. What a shame for the owners of the product.

    Thanks for sharing this. I have an R1S on preorder and can take delivery later this year if I want to. Things like this make me want to wait longer. Looking forward to future updates.

    Situations like this are probably why rivian has slowed deliveries to people who are not close to a service center. We don't have a delivery window yet but we're 250 miles from a service center.

      @@sitharob1 just confirmed configuration past Sunday. They are promising Aug -Sep so I'm assuming Sep. Hang in there as Rivian doesn't do well with communication. I'm hanging in there because of the pre-pricing hike last year.

    10 months ago but it's obvious it takes a certain type of person to own this car. You are so forgiving and level headed. This is not normal or acceptable to most people. One day will be ready for general consumption. As of now they should require a psych test to make sure the purchasing party can handle the ownership experience.

    You had legitimate concerns about servicing, and in some ways you should have not gone ahead until they open more in your area.

    I have owned my Rivian R1T for over a year (April 2nd, 2022) and have had very few issues with it. TOTALLY LOVE THIS Truck!
    With the number of issues you have had, it should have gone in for service a while back. They should have paid for transport both ways. Note that with EVs (especially with new companies), issues happen early and things get better the longer you have it. The opposite of gas cars which get worse over time.

    I have a R1T Launch Edition, and thank goodness have not had any problems with it. I have 20,000 miles on it and the only issue was tire ware. You had an option to return the vehicle as I believe they give you 1000 miles and 7 or 10 days trial. You obviously received a lemon which in some states protects the consumer against these kinds of situations. I am sorry you have had such a bad experience with your R1S and wish you had a more positive experience like the one I and many others are experiencing. I wish you the best of luck. As you mentioned, Rivian service is exceptional and I am confident they will solve your problems.

    Really frustrating how many times I have heard or read of owners that have been told by Rivian that something is normal that absolutely is not normal and at no point in time would anyone who purchased even a much less expensive vehicle think these things were normal or expect these things to be described as normal. Rivian is going to loose credibility if they continue to tell customers that these types of flaws are normal as if we all haven't been driving vehicles all our lives.

    that's why 48 v is the future as you can wait and see Tesla will transfer CT tech to S3XY. Rivian has no choice, since it is a a quality control. I doubt the inventory of 12voltst in productionise slow charge. Tesla has the same issue with 12volt. That is why 48 volt is the future.

    rivian doesnt have a good repair team and there repair prices are astronomical 3k to change a window..2k to reset batteries...3k to repressure your suspension which is caused by a hydraulic leak on your passenger side. but rivian wont tell you that ...look for ch11fs on the floor greenish tint fluid.. system runs at 120 psi. slight hole and its over

    Can you charge 12 volts with the pigtails near the rear trailer hitch?

    • @PureJoyFarms
      @PureJoyFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. That can be used for emergency power to open doors but Rivian would not let me try charging batteries that way. The two 12volt batteries are apparently separate systems and don't necessarily charge that way. Essentially I could of voided my warranty by trying it. Also I did discover these batteries are only warrantied for one year.

    • @jialinzhang61
      @jialinzhang61 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try to let them replace the 12v batteries. I have had one new chrysler and one new Nissan that came with defective 12v batteries from their manufacturers with in the past two years. And one time when I called AAA for a jump start, the technician told me he had jumped started lots of new cars when he saw mine was new as well.

    Imagine when it is out of warranty, NONE of this can be fixed at home, and may cost more than it is worth. These types of vehicles do not age well, with so much complexity, and the used prices are going off a cliff, for good reason.

      Ordering a 1st year model from a 1st time manufacturer, it would be unrealistic to not expect issues. I would say the vast majority of us early buyers were planning on dealing with some of them. I for one am actually surprised how little service I’ve needed for my R1S (also have one in MN where cold could affect it).

    While I appreciate this can be frustrating because we’ve all grown accustomed to everything in our lives running perfect every time, isn’t this sort of understandable as part of being an early adopter? You buy it knowing there may be issues but hoping for the best… and as long as Rivian resolves and resolves, that’s just the deal? My R1S will be here shortly and for two yrs, I’ve known and accepted this. Droning on for 20 mins about every little detail like Eeyore while Rivian is fixing things is a bit much. Have you been asleep for the last 2-3 yrs or however long you’ve been waiting? It’s a brand new start-up not a Ford w 100+ yrs experience. Even the Ford EVs are having similar issues - as are all manufacturers of EVs. If they blew you off and the customer service sucked, then you have a good reason to cry on TH-cam. Seems like they’re taking care of things.
