It's still relevant, I'm planning on making a build centered around the 2600X and the 1660 Ti Mini. This is the perfect case for me because I fly out a lot.
using a couple of these for new work computers I am building. cost effective also haha
I’m an over the road trucker and have already built one machine in a micro-atx case, and am looking at the parts for my next build and this case. It would fit within the available space in my truck. I’ve always come to Jay’s videos I get a better idea of case space and part arrangements. Great videos and even with this one being an older one it’s still crazy relevant!
Who else is watching in 2020 and thinking how far we've come in terms of hardware as well as how far Jay's channel has come?

Can get most of what you want in ATX or mATX in an itx motherboard into a case about the size of a console, the only thing that wont fit is an optical drive, but considering people can get external optical drives now, that isn't a huge issue. Many itx motherboards already come with wifi attached to, so one no longer needs to buy a network card or usb wifi
Everything can be compact by using a m.2 or a 2.5 ssd drive.
I'm just amazed that 6 years later, this case is still relevant for for itx cases. The only thing it doesn't have is tempered glass and tons of RGB, but for someone like me, I don't care about it, lol.
the camera work on this video was really something special compared to what we usually find here. amazing job Jay.

muaz naveed Yeah I'm happy with it. I bought it a week before the R9 390 came out. The Gtx 950 isn't bad. A have a friend who is running dual Gtx 480's. lol

So I just built a budget gaming rig with this case today. I have to say for a mini ITX case it was very easy to work in, ACCEPT for the damn hard drives. What the hell were they thinking with that hard drive bay? What a nightmare it was installing hard drives in this case. I got it to work, but damn it was a pain in the ass.

I know that this is an old video I’m currently in the market for a slim pc strictly for steam and this is a GREAT place to start. Thank you .
So basically the best way to do this build is to (and correct me if I'm wrong)
1. Have the case standing upright with airflow fans
2. Buy the case first so you know which motherboard to get.
3. Get a blower-style graphics card.
4. Buy an aftermarket low-profile CPU cooler.
Is that right?

Mostly wondering 1) where is the best place to install the extra fan 2) What kind of fans would be best to get in the future or would it make no noticeable difference? 3) When adding additional fans / fan controller where and in what order should they be installed?
This is basically the only part of the build I'm not 100% sure of yet.

i would still use an open air card with two fans blowing at it. I think it would still out perform a reference card

Just used parts of my first PC to use them in this case, and MAN it's awesome!! I can play emulation and 2k60fps PC games no problem with great temps. Cable management was A HASSLE, BUT so worth it when you get it right. And super quiet too!

This was a really helpful video, thank you. I completed my Node 202 build about a month ago. I went Ryzen 5 3600 with a Radeon RX 570 (good value for now, plan to upgrade in another year or two). Great little machine, but I can verify that adding the case fans to suck extra air into the GPU bay makes a huge difference. While I didn’t actually measure the temps inside the case with a thermometer, and just tested by touching the side of the case, it went from too hot to keep my hand on for more than a few seconds to just warm, while under stress playing a game like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, or running the 3DMark stress test.
Oh, I'd also recommend always standing it on it's end, not flat on the surface, with the motherboard end up. That way the heat from the graphics card travels up and out the large vent on that end of the case. The vent at the graphics card end is much smaller, so that compartment may not stay as cool if you stand it with the video card up, though I haven't really put that to the test. Your video card should be spewing most of it's heat out it's own vent at the back most of the time anyway, but I find that have the motherboard end up to be most optimal for cooling.
The biggest sin of that Node is that power supply is not modular. Way too much cables inside!

+valtur25 Had a quick look at the specs for that PSU and it seems to only have the required cables for that case anyway.
The only issue I could see is the SATA and PCI-E cables MAY be two seperate cables for each one (i.e 2 SATA cables and 2 PCI-E cables) instead of a single cable with two adapters in series. But not completely sure there...

Yep -- I would never pay Fractal for this pre-installed PSU. They are so behind the times with even all their best PSUs being non-modular to start with. And then this one's only a Bronze-rated anyway. Add to that, they're about a year and a half behind SilverStone with this specific case form-factor. I have to assume this thing better be WAY cheaper than the S.S. ('cause that one's aluminum). But if I was needing this use-case scenario, I'd willingly pay the premium for at least the upgrade to Silverstone's "SFX-L" PSU. Bigger fan (quieter), slightly more wattage, and MODULAR. I haven't even looked yet (and Jay didn't mention), but unless this case also comes in an empty version, where I can use a better PSU, I'm not even interested.
+boatrat74 yes it comes without psu also.. but the modular thing is not really a downside here as you will need all the cables anyway..

The Bronze rating on the PSU is a downside (heat), the tiny fan on it is a downside (noisy). There appears to be plenty of room for Silverstone's longer SFX-L Gold 500w PSU there (quieter 120mm fan). If not, I would just go with their case instead. Since my earlier comment, I found the empty version of this one selling for $87. US ($80. +shipping). I don't see the PSU-included version for sale anywhere yet here.
Silverstone's comparable FTZ01 is going for $120. Apart from just *looking* a lot better to me (aluminum with beveled edges), that also has a slot-load disc-player position, which I still think is a crucial *option* (you don't have to use it) on any PC, but especially an HTPC build. The lack of that last option alone, even apart from all the other considerations I mentioned, is a deal-breaker for me on this Fractal "HTPC"-oriented offering.

This is a perfect build for our church. We already have a cramped sound booth. They want a small form factor PC put in their sound booth for handling our TH-cam live stream. Great vlog build Jay. I may have to go with a Micro ATX board.

+JayzTwoCents Wouldn't it be smart to use the CPU cooler as an exhaust (assuing you had a low profile aftermarket cooler)... normally it would blow down over the motherboard but getting a cooler that's as high as possible and flipping the fan... just seems to me like that would be the best option for this case...

+Kriss_941 Having the CPU cooler set as intake would still be better for CPU temps since it's drawing in cool air from the outside not to mention also decreasing motherboard temps and VRM temps. And given the dual-compartment design, the exhaust from the CPU fan would probably not do much for the GPU as it is pretty well isolated in it's own little chamber.

CPU: Amd 9590 OC:ed @ 5.5 ghz w/ stock cooler.
Gpu: 2x Amd r9 295x2 overclocked @ 1800 MHz
Hdd: 3.5" 4 tb hdd (squished in real tight)
Psu: Yesterday's potatoes.
Should I go with a custom loop?

Just so you guys are aware, the Node 202 riser does not support PCIe
4.0! So if you intend to install an RX 5700 GPU on an X570 board, you
have to downgrade your Mobo to PCIe 3.0

reference coolers will normally run hotter regardless. I have the exact same setup and the 970 ssc hovers around 78C with two 120mm fans blowing right at it. if you have a blower card it will most likely go above 80C because of its smaller fan/heatsink. I would prefer open-air over reference in almost any cases. you should be ok as long as ventilation is adequate
I bought a 4790k and ran it at stock speed with the stock cooler, and it throttled like a bitch in Aida 64, up to about 30%.
Moral of the story: don't use stock coolers on k SKUs

I have a 3770 (which is hotter) in a very small case with only a 80mm fan.
After 3 years and 2 years running a lot during the day, it still doesn't get over 77°C on 100% usage.
0 Throttling.
Check your airflow, stock coolers are fine.
I run mine with a stock cooler and its fine
+Yosyp i had the same problem, with stock cooler my cpu reach 100c almost instantly with aida64 and i have plenty of airflow, i had to buy an aftermarket cooler to keep it cool.

Also those fans air pushing one against another, that gpu fans are exhausting air and the intake fans are fighting each other.
+Emmanuelle Rodriguez Nope, they are both blowing the same way. Remember EVGA uses a reverse bladed "sweep" style fan. It looks backwards but its pushing air onto the heatsink, not pulling through it.

Fantastic video guide and review. Loved it.
Used this case for my first pc build. Playing Ark Survival Evolved had my cpu peaking at 100°c... but! I added 2 40x10 fans to top of the case for exhaust and installed notua NA-FD1 cooler fan duct and my cpu temps went down to an average of 63°c. I also took your advice and used a gpu with a blower style cooler. That was a great tip!
