Story of my life. I fly out of VKX, Potomac Airfield. There are only two GA airports in the FRZ now. W32, Hyde Executive Field, was sold and decommissioned in Nov 22.
We fly over it on the downwind for 24 and as of my last flight the land has been cleared for the new houses going in.

That's so sad, but I get it.

Way too much complications to go into the ice cream zone.

I've gotten my FRZ pin but have yet to use it. I'm out of FME and want to take the big hike down there to check out the museum.

Ok dumb question: If I want to file IFR into the FRZ, do I have to get a PIN to file, or can I just file a regular IFR flight plan and proceed as normal?

There’s a whole application process that also involves finger printing to get assigned a pin. If you want to get one, plan on it taking 4-6 weeks

@@calebdegard7759 Ok that’s good to know, but does the PIN requirement apply to IFR flights?

Yes the pin process applied to IFR as well. You can file an IFR or VFR flight plan with that special wash center phone number he refers to.

@@benserres4022 Hi, Ben! How’s the plane running?

@@jaredc357 Yes, you can use IFR to 'bypass' the SFRA but NOT the FRZ. To fly VFR into the SFRA you need to do an online training course, keep prove of that course on your person (PDF file in cloud is acceptable), and file a SFRA flight plan (which you can do with Foreflight, FSS, or any way you would normally). The catch is that the SFRA flight plan is ONLY for the SFRA. You need to enter a 'gate' of entry as your departure point, and then an airport within the SFRA as your destination. You contact ATC prior to entering, get a transponder code and maintain that code until engine shut down! Do not squaw VFR after landing. Same when you exit, squawk code on the ground and maintain until you exit the SFRA at one of the gates.
If sounds confusing, but if you do the online course and you can watch FlightInsight's video on how it works too; it's not that bad. Also remember that there are four class B airports on top of each other in the area too :)
