I’ve been trying to understand this for months and months and a few of my colleagues have tried explaining this to me but I think they are more interested of showing me how much they know and how much smarter they are than me. They explained it to me over and over again but I always feel they are keeping the most important details out so I can keep going back to them for more help every time I’m analyzing a new spreadsheet. By going back every time it makes me feel incompetent and it makes them feel superior. Not anymore!!!! Now finally!!!!!!! I come across this video!!!!! No BS just pure explanation and pure understanding on how things are being done; and why things are being done the way they are. So I finally went back to my colleagues and explained to them and showed them exactly the same thing you showed me in your tutorial. I also went to the rest of the colleagues and showed them these same instructions. Now everyone understands this in my office and those initial colleagues that were more interested in looking smart and being superior are now looking dumb and stupid. We all now know it and no one is going to them for help anymore. We are all finally on the same page. Thank you.

Hello Tyson, When i read your comment, i bust out crying.. it happened to me too. They made me feel horrible to the point i lost my job.. How can people not work as a team so we can all be productive.. I am soo very sorry you and anyone else goes through the fact that no one want to train or teach.. It is a horrible feeling. Thank you. This logic helped me understand that Vlookup cannot be used when the data has a return value column before the lookup value column. The column order needs to be reorganised before using Vlookup!

Thank you this was great. a Question: Is there away to pull in a range of data (columns 3, 4, 5, and 6) other than copying the formula and changing the reference value?
Explanation: False means only an exact match to the lookup value will be searched, True means the closest match (of equal or lesser value) to the lookup value will be searched. In the case of ID numbers and such, an exact match is critical so False is the correct choice. In the case of a continuous lookup value such as Weight, you may prefer True.
STARTING EARLY IS THE BEST WAY OF GETTING AHEAD TO BUILD WEALTH, AND INVESTING REMAIN A PRIORITY. THE STOCK MARKET HAS PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO EARN A DECENT PAYOUTS, WITH THE RIGHT SKILLS AND A PROPER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE MARKET WORKS

if its for the first value then recheck the formula. If the first row is correct and the rest is incorrect, make sure you make the table absolute. i.e. the table array put $ sign before column and row. instead of writing A4 write $A$4
Wow thank you!!! I know nothing about excel except you put data in cells to have a nice report. Were doing application asset validation across different facilities (IT). The process everyone else uses is go into a room and write down (or input into excel) the asset tag and building floor room#. I'm like we have a whole database that shows all assets in the entire company why can't we pull it from that data? Answer: The database doesn't work like that. Googled about pulling data from one spreadsheet into another when you provide information (asset tag). Came across this video. Made a working vlookup spreadsheet. Now at the facility I bring my laptop and a code scanner. Scan the asset and all the info i need comes up. No one wanted to figure that out so I just use it for myself. A facility that takes 3 techs a day to do I can do in half a day by myself. Thanks to you I will enjoy longer lunches and more youtube time. 😀

Sir, I have a question when you track the VLOOKUP table. Why did it started with C. Why can't it starts by B,
that is because C stands for COLUMN.

Explanation: False means only an exact match to the lookup value will be searched, True means the closest match (of equal or lesser value) to the lookup value will be searched. In the case of ID numbers and such, an exact match is critical so False is the correct choice. In the case of a continuous lookup value such as Weight, you may prefer True.

if its for the first value then recheck the formula. If the first row is correct and the rest is incorrect, make sure you make the table absolute. i.e. the table array put $ sign before column and row. instead of writing A4 write $A$4

I experienced this too but i realized that vlookup does not look up for data leftward, rather look forward

Wow thank you!!! I know nothing about excel except you put data in cells to have a nice report. Were doing application asset validation across different facilities (IT). The process everyone else uses is go into a room and write down (or input into excel) the asset tag and building floor room#. I'm like we have a whole database that shows all assets in the entire company why can't we pull it from that data? Answer: The database doesn't work like that. Googled about pulling data from one spreadsheet into another when you provide information (asset tag). Came across this video. Made a working vlookup spreadsheet. Now at the facility I bring my laptop and a code scanner. Scan the asset and all the info i need comes up. No one wanted to figure that out so I just use it for myself. A facility that takes 3 techs a day to do I can do in half a day by myself. Thanks to you I will enjoy longer lunches and more youtube time. 😀
