Why The Dog Daddy is a danger to dogs

  • "The Dog Daddy' - real name Augusto Deoliveira - is an American dog trainer who has been almost universally condemned by the dog-training community for his controversial methods dealing with aggressive/fearful dogs.
His videos on social media show him manhandling/strangling dogs to secure a temporary compliance. Some scream and are so terrified they defecate.
This is a video primer made to explain clearly why he is so problematic.

Anybody find a video of a positive reinforcement only trainer fixing a red-zone aggressive dog yet?

@ZaryaTheLaika totally not what I asked for. I can find all kinds of trainers talking hypothetically about aggressive dominant dogs and how to train them but never see any videos of them being fixed. Show me Zak George or someone like him fixing a red zone dog case that wants to kill other dogs and that dog is able to be with other dogs after training or a dog that is aggressive to people and is fixed. I've personally seen positive only trainers and dog behavior specialists recommend dogs being put down that are fixed by other trainers. Keep advocating for trainers that recommend that though, I'm sure the dogs being put down appreciate it.

@@ZaryaTheLaika I'm all for the ability to sue dog owners for not doing training, no argument here on that. I searched the terms you suggested and all I found was some low level fear reactive dogs which positive worked and that's great. I've never said positive training doesn't work, I use it to train my dog as well. Maybe I should have been more specific, I want to see a dominant bold personality dog like certain pit bulls, dogo argentinos or other strong dog breeds that isn't fearful in the slightest bit, doesn't respond to treats or verbal commands corrections that wants to kill another dog or go after a person and is basically like "screw you" to any handler being fixed with positive only training. Because I think the .01% of dogs getting euthanized as you mentioned, is exactly the type of dog I'm referring to. Those types of dogs can be fixed too, you may not like the methods but they do work. I've seen it first hand, multiple trainers and behaviorists say "there's nothing you can do besides put the dog down". Which is total lies. I've seen dogs they labeled as to be put down get totally turned around and quickly too. Sorry but not sorry, if a dog I own or work with wants to kill a nice dog that has done nothing to it on neutral ground, the dog is going to get a correction and told that behavior is unacceptable. Same thing for going at people.

These are mostly death row dogs, if they need tough training to save their lives. That's what needs to he done. If you are too sensitive, you shouldn't work with animals. Or get to have an opinion on these cases. Get bite by a pitbull first or get cornered by a Rottweiler and tell me if that dog is thinking about your life. In the animal world that's the rules. Woke ideology will hurt humans and hurt animals. The abuse is countless animals slowing dying in shelters. To be point blank in the old days dogs would be ended for this behavior. Breeding these traits out of the line. That's why breed gentics are so strong. Generations of selective choices and that inludes temperment or God forbid, something not right in the head.

Abuse is also when dogs are euthanized because of poor socialization and training from the dog owners, and no trainer that will help to fix the problem. Breeders should also be more aware of where their puppies are going. Not everyone can handle a Malinois, German Shepherd, Cane Corso, etc. I would much rather have someone like Dog Daddy help me with my aggressive dog than be forced to euthanize them. I am still waiting to see Zak George show a video where he helps an aggressive dog like this. Please stop all the talking, and show us how to fix the problem. So far it's been all talk and no action. Sorry, but this isn't acceptable when dogs are being euthanized for something that someone can help to fix. Stop knocking Dog Daddy. He is only one of the few that has stepped up to the plate to help these dogs. Not only is he saving dogs, he is also saving the other animals and humans that these dogs might injure or kill one day because no one has shown them that their behaviour is unacceptable.

I totally agree. People should have to pass a course before they get the privilege to own a dog. (perhaps we should have to do that before we have kids as well LOL) Potential dog owners should also be matched with a suitable breed., but who would police this. It's such a free for all where pets are concerned. I also find his training methods a bit tough to watch sometimes, however, dogs can be pretty nasty with each other and it gets the message across very quickly that their behaviour will not be accepted. I would hope that some of these dogs are saved, as well as their potential victims. I feel so sorry for dogs that get so messed up that they become confused, fearful, aggressive and out of control. I see mine and think how lucky I am, but I put a lot of time into them.

Having written studies before and knowing statistics pretty well seeing as its what i was trained in and was my job for a period, i can tell you that the vast majority of research on this issue is methodologically flawed and now lawmakers in Europe and the UK are hell bent on enacting bad policy on poor research. Postive only is a pure fail in real world environments. The proof is in the pudding. There are no offleash positive only videos, there are no aggressive dog solved with positive only videos, there are only living room in home zero distraction positive only videos.
Anyone with an ounce of knowledge into psychology and university systems can tell you all good research ended in the 1980s after the introduction of ethics committees and most research done today is simply so some poor university student can publish for their phd or masters degree. Especially on animal behavior.
Its actually sad to see so many people be so brainwashed by such mainstream media noise about a person who has done so much to help the worlds most poorly behaved dogs. Where is Zak George and the positive only trainers with these types of dogs? Silent or telling you to put them down.

Humans forced to face their fears also freak out a bit but are transformed permanently for the better.. And, as DD has said, he is not "training" the dogs initially but just getting them under control and getting rid of an old mindset so they are then ready to learn and be responsive to training. It's common sense. There are plenty of times he has actually prevented an owner from accidentally choking out their own dog while trying to restrain them using a regular collar and leash. The right kind of prong collar prevents the need for force. All tools can be misused but he is not doing that.. He is saving these dogs lives. Better a few moments of even intense discomfort if the reward is a lifetime of companionship and security and peace.

There are ways to assert dominance with a dog that do not involve half strangling them.. There's no connection built with the dog either. And that's what aggressive/ dominant dogs are often seeking, not to be beaten into place, but to belong.

@@lucywills9740 Please, share your videos of you or anyone working with dogs like this in a similar time frame. I have seen footage of DD actually saving dogs from their owners choking them while trying to restrain them at group classes. A few minutes of facing fears and potentially some physical discomfort but not harm--I think he's had one complaint from someone that hired him but did not include any damage to the dog--amidst thousands of clients. He isn't strangling them and I see pretty clear connections with the dog in just a few minutes. His goal is to increase the connection between the OWNERS and the dogs, not do everything for them. The initial interaction is his getting CONTROL of the dog so the dog becomes receptive to learning the actual training, mostly from the owner as he teaches them what to do.

"Humans forced to face their fears also freak out a bit but are transformed permanently for the better.." No, they actually aren't and that kind of approach to curing phobias is no longer supported. The current approach is to start with baby steps. For example, if you're afraid of spiders, you might start by looking at pictures of spiders. Then maybe seeing a dead spider. Eventually touching a spider. Basically, you work with people in increments, you don't throw their worst fears at them until they have a breakdown.

    • @ramanagal
      @ramanagal 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@shounenbat510 That isn't a great comparison. He is getting dogs over their phobias of activities that are naturally good for them, that unabated dogs love or at least like. He is helping them to return to a natural state. And these dogs have already had the hot dog trainers fail them, don't forget that. He gets them under control quickly, transforms the dogs into dogs receptive to training, primarily by their owners, whom he spends most of the time training.

Aggressive dogs need to be quickly shown who is master and DD methods are necessary for fast results before someone is injured or even killed. I would love to see any of these other "trainers" show how they can easily correct a dog and have it stick, especially if it is an aggressive dog that keeps trying to bite others. I have watched many of these other "trainers" try hot dog training, or other feeding training, but only very specific dogs that are not lunging and aggressive towards everyone.
It's a real shame to see such dishonesty in society, and just like the SJW's who decry anything they can, you will always get groups of people who seek to destroy and put down others for showing how to correct animals properly, and help them overcome fear and reconditioned in a manner that works, all without hurting the animal.

DD does not address the reason the dog is reactive which is the problem. Solving the reason for the aggression relieves the aggression. dogs can be aggressive due to pain, understimulation, overstimulation as well as a mountain of other reasons. All DD does is cause distress to a dog so that it gives in for his video. there is no realistic training meaning this training cannot be continued by the owner.

Sorry but I saw dog daddy at a park where he worked with several very again and mean dogs - his approach was in NO way abusive , rather it was pack psychology that had immediate results- the dogs involved were visibly grateful to be understood and lead in a confident manner. The results were heartwarming and miraculous. I’ve seen animal control handle aggressive dogs is appalling ways and most get euthanized. Please educate yourself before being a hater and spreading BS.

Would you really find being repeatedly hung in the air by a leather strap around your neck unharmful? And add in if you were already scared and panicked before this happened? It's just inhumane.

He is essentially broadcasting his bs on social media and making aggressive behavior towards dogs in the name of "training" okay and acceptable, that's the problem. This has not been proven to be effective or work. On the other hand, positive training has and strengthens the bond between dog and human. You can be a good leader to your dog by showing them they can trust you, believe me dogs pick up on who wears the pants and is in charge in a household, you don't have to rough them up to establish your place in the pack. I've used positive training with my doberman and she is an excellent dog, never had aggression or fear issues, not once. DD is not even worth calling a trainer, he's an abusive phony.

I was personally putting down thousands of animals per year in a local shelter with a high right of euthanasia you self-righteous ignorant DD enabler, I worked as many angles as I could to save as many lives as I could while I was there, including working in a dual role as operations manager and animal behavior consultant. I have worked with thousands of dogs of all breeds and sizes during my career. Many who were labeled aggressive, dominant and reactive. I worked through my breaks and lunches, came in early and stayed late in order to rehabilitate the the most “difficult”dogs in the shelter and work them through issues that I knew would get them euthanized if they persisted. I had a great deal of success, and would gladly work with any of the beautiful, unfortunate canine souls that end up on the other end of his leash. While I stopped working at the shelter in 2005, I have continued my work with canines to this day. WE HAVE KNOWN THAT THERE WERE MORE EFFECTIVE WAYS THAN THIS NONSENSE WELL OVER 18 YEARS AGO! I would have not let this person anywhere near our shelter. My disclaimer is always this: I am not a competitor on social media, I have no channels or professionally produced and edited videos, and most of all I am not jealous. He is simply hurting animals whom I have dedicated my life to understanding and I can’t be silent. So to bring this back around, that’s where I have been. Where were you? I would recommend you not speak of that you do not know.
BTW big herding and protection dogs are my passion. I never hurt them in the name of “training”, as intentionally inflicting pain (otherwise known as violence) on my Mal X boys, or any of the thousands of dogs I have worked with, has no place in a relationship between two intelligent social beings…

This is Not about the dogs its about jealous people not getting clout or earning his dollars you all need some training from your parents to learn jealousy gets you know where in life FACT!

They keep saying "hanging the dogs from their leash" like the dogs aren't trying to attack this man. Would you not hold the dog away from you? Their back legs never leave the ground, so he clearly isn't hanging. The dog can breathe because it's barking aggressively, not coughing/wheezing. They say the dog only "stops what he's doing so the trainer will also stop" WHICH IS WHAT LEARNING IS! Especially for animals with alpha's in packs. Wolves/dogs have one alpha they listen to and they FIGHT for control, and only when they lose the fight are they going to listen. The people who dont train their dogs THAT NEED TRAINING are the ones who let their dog run the household and they'll never listen, cause thats what all these dogs are, they are dogs that NEED training. I usually dont care to leave comments on things, cause people really have no knowledge and yet "know everything" without ever doing proper research or sometimes without knowing anything they are talking about! Just fillowing the crowd/majority. People nowadays are turning into sheep, more so than ever before.

This is ridiculous. Even a child needs a spanking now and then to redirect bad behavior, it isn't punishment, it's caring enough to discipline and stop bad behavior before it gets out of control. Same principle. Someone needs to be in charge, overly sensitive isn't going to get the job done quickly or efficiently, with the overall goal of a happier, better adapted pet. Someone has to be the Alpha, that's just how it works.

Dogs often dont remember the underlying reason they are aggressive. DD understands this. Most people haven't got a clue. His methods are immediate. He uses the leash as a tool. A dog can be bit by another dog at full force on the neck and zero injury is inflicted. Dogs are not people. People are free to choose who they want to train their dog. Most trainer can not train a dog as effectively as DD can.

The dogs Dog Daddy handling is within a few minutes very much at peace with him once they understand what he wants from them. You taking everything out of context and not showing the full picture. This is shameful! You are doing this for commercial motives not for the love of the animals. Since if you care, you would also include the results of his methods and how the dog owners are so thankful that he is able to save their beloved pets from a certain death in just a few sessions.

At the state that these dogs are the only way is his. Treats and nice words do not work anymore. Before critisising him, critisize the owners brought the dogs to the stage. These owners have tried tens of trainers like you before asking the dog Daddy... so please stop critisising the one tgat in one session sorts out what you all have not achieved and in some case caused. You nice and sweet methods only benefit your wallets! Better one hard session then months of your useless expansive trainings with no result. He uses the dogs' language without trying to humanise them. His methods only show everybody that you cannot do your jobs and you only make money with no competence.

Much love and respect for the dog daddy’s talents, skills, courage, and huge heart dog. Daddy is one of the most generous human beings. There are in animal rescue as well as aiding peaceful and loving homes.

All of you guys are dog experts but can’t seem to understand what actually works! They’re animals they need to be dominated in order to be submissive he makes more money than all of you guys with the credentials and knowledge that you guys are stating to have. Without no degree yeah I’d be upset too if someone of the exact same job description single handedly took over the entire industry 😅
