    I recently played a FFT "hard mode" mod developed by the fan community. The aesthetics and music of this game are otherworldly good and still hold up magnificently.
    I learned a lot from your video despite being a hardcore Matsuno fan.. Very professional video!

    Love the shoutout to the Hacktics Community, and the wealth of background knowledge in this vid!
    It's these guys who gave me the tools and the knowledge to create my mod Second Read.
    I always saw in the Final Fantasy Tactics subreddit people disliking the original PSX's translation issues but get annoyed wanting to understand the War of the Lions' version of the script, but needed a thesaurus for every other sentence, so I rewrote it in more modern english, but kept the characterizations mostly the same, to honor the original characterization the Tactics team had released in 1997 who were sadly being paid at times, especially the localization team

    I don't know the original Japanese translation, but it worked. Seriously, that team made such an amazing game and has had such an impact on my childhood.

      @BehindThePixels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the original translation worked sometimes and i definitely didn’t mind it when I was a child. Revisiting it, I do see how simple it was. And yeah the War of the Lion version tries Way to hard. Appreciate you sharing your mod, keep up the good work! @@BehindThePixels Aww, thank you! This is the Hardcover version of the mod Second Read. Hardcover includes the reimagined script, like 95% of it, but also includes a couple different twists along the lines with the different gameplay mechanics.
      Softcover was The Lion War mod with the new script and minor gameplay changes but is fairly vanilla, for those who might want to use my baseline Second Read script for themselves in their own mods or didn't want to stray from Vanilla Tactics too much.

    I've come to realize that I do not actually want a remake. Though I would want to make mods/full conversion of a remake, it's the original with all its flaws that I fell in love with, and there is no way they would do a remake that would, to me, do it justice. I would want things they wouldn't even consider, while not caring about the things they would add. I would be so happy with a PC port, because of the modding community more than the game itself.
    The war of the lions version of the game had new cut-scenes and a few extra battles, but I think the audio and responsiveness suffered. That 60 FPS requirement thing was not a joke, the audio and menus were so good in the original, comparatively. The worst part about the WotL version is that they hard-coded slowdown on animations because of the limited disc speed of the PSP. The NA version of WotL has a slowdown fix patch that can be applied, but not on the mobile versions, and there is no such patch for any JP version, as far as I know.

    How are we still perpetuating the whole "its named final fantasy bc it was gonna be his last game before he quit" when even Sakaguchi himself has debunked this? 😂
    They wanted a game that could be abbreviated to FF in english. Original idea was Fighting Fantasy, but there was already a board game named this so they went with Final. Final being a popular word in Japan lends to why they chose it.
    And Sakaguchis own words “Those days definitely seemed like end times, but honestly, any word that started with ‘F’ would’ve been fine.”

    Interesting, that you call the series "Tactics Ogre" when it really is just "Ogre" since there are several Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre games out there. You also keep showing a FAKE Tactics Ogre Snes Cartridge and Package, the game never left Japan on Snes. It was fan-translated.

    • @BehindThePixels

      I should’ve said Ogre series and yes I didn’t realize it was never released for the snes, my mistake

    • @Momoka7

      @@BehindThePixels I am sorry for my semantics.
      But yeah when I was a kid I heard from the game "Ogre Battle" on Snes from a Japanese writer in my Games Magazine, he was in love with it and said allot people in Japan are as well. When it was released US, Ogre Battle, I bought it right away and I was a huge fan of it. It was my third or so Strategy game back then, number 1 was Warsong(the Langrisser series) then Shining Force.
      I never heard of "Tactics Ogre" being released in Japan, now I know it never made it. Thing is years later I seen a Japanese version of Final Fantasy Tactics, I waited for the US release and bought it. A coule months later they released thePS1 remake of Ogre Battle and later the "remake" of Tactics Ogre. Both where in Japan on Sega Saturn and PS1 but in the west only on PS1.
      That is the first time I got into contact with it... and what a contact it was. I think over the past 20 years I beat it over 10 times, it had 3 routes so I remember beating it three times back on original PS1 hardware, then 10 years later(2005 or so) on the ePSXe and later on my PSP when the true Remake came. I bought, in fact, the PSP only for Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre.
      There IS a translated Snes version of Tactics Ogre, but it is a fantranslation and a incomplete one at that. Incomplete in the sense as they didn't proof-play it so it might have some errors in it. That and it was released after 2015 or something around that time.
      You made a great video, I am just nitpicking and playing semantics. What else can you expect from an old geezer ;p

      @BehindThePixels  ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries all good 😊 and thanks for sharing your story. Now I have to play both Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre

    • @Momoka7
      @Momoka7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BehindThePixels For Ogre Battle, you can play either the Snes version or the PS1 remake, they are the same.
      For Tactics Ogre there are now 3 versions out. The Snes version and the Saturn and PS1 ports. You could play the Snes translated rom or the PS1 version.
      Then there is the PSP Remake which you can play on a PSP emultator or buy it for a PSvita PSVitaTv. This version comes with allot new stuff, a character system more similar to Final Fantasy Tactics with up to 10 skill slots and many skills each class can learn. Also more classes and "dungeons" then in the original Snes version
      And then there is the brand new version, released on Steam, Switch, PS4 and I think Xbox. This version is remastered, coming with the same added content compared to the PSP version but with remixed combat system. Less skills(characters can hold up to 4 skills and 4 spells) and a new "battle card" system where cards appear in the map and character can pick them up and keep up to 4 of them.
      And then there are other true classics, like "Tactics Ogre - The Knight of Lodis" on the Gameoy and "Ogre Battle 64" which upgrades the combat system of Ogre Battle in an epic way.
      All stuff you could take a look at, and play if you feel like it.
      If for me, worth it is the original Tactics Ogre on Snes/PS1 because it is rather hard early on but later has a immense freedom of things you can do.
      Ogre Battle 64 is also worth, as it adds more complexity to things compared to "Ogre Battle" and a much more round game, especially if you play it now. But to play that you either have to get a physical copy and a N64 or you try to scoop up a "Wii Virtual Console" version and run it on a Wii emulator, since the N64 version and Emulator have issues running it. It uses compressed textures which the emulator not know how to deal with.
      So yeah, you really could play more then two games, 4 if you add Tactics Ogre The Knight of Lodis and Ogra Battle 64.

    Not very complete history if you don't mention Ogre Battle or how the lead team that made the game jumped ship and left Quest to go to Square. That was in 1995 (Ogre Tactics was already out by then) and magically in 97' Final Fantasy Tactics arrives. I mean it's ok to worship at the altar but at least give the credit where it's due. They stole a shit load from OG and all these years later they get all the credit, Kind of shameful but a perfect summation of what Square Enix is today. Soulless.

      Fascinating, do you know why the team left to go to Square? In my research which I also mentioned in the video that Matsuno left because he looked up to Sakaguchi and wanted to work on a FF game. Is there more to the story?

      Again, the salty Tactics Ogre fans.
      By the way, it's Tactics Ogre, not Ogre Tactics.
      And Ogre Battle has nothing to do with this, the game is very different from FFT, so there is no reason to mention it. Now, "Tactics Ogre" is where the connections come from.
      But calling it stealing? 😂. There is nothing to steal when it was done by the same team in the first place 🙄.

      You have to recall the conditions of the market back then, everyone excluding Squaresoft was going to hit a down trend in the late 90s and get gobbled by Squaresoft in the early 2000s. Everyone who made role playing games in Japan , had wanted to collaborate with Squaresoft during the PlayStation era. Squaresoft not only gobbled Quest and its assets, but Enix with its published works and Taito. Sony grew the market out of Japan and West creeped up and dominated.

    FFT2 would be a horrible game probably. Sometime is better to cancel sequels like this.
