OMFG! I WAS AT THIS SHOW! I didn't know there was any video available! I can't believe I'm just finding this. The smoke in the air gave us a contact high. The whole night was incredible!
So ooo thankful for these priceless videos from back in my hay days. Use to catch these tours in Greensboro NC between 1977 thru 1980, HIGH.... school days.
The late Garry "Starchild" Shider singing and playing lead on Cosmic Slop in Chocolate City after Michael Hampton's amp went out. You will be missed Garry.
60's and 70's that's how it was for just about most concerts with every band. A top notch road crew was a must have. Usually though after the fans waited the great bands would kick it up a notch and you got to hear and see something special That's just how it was back then.
I was at this and had it recorded, who knows what happened to the tape, but I used to love hearing Gary come in with something different and Skeet went into the thumping near the middle of the second solo and then Mike and Gary makem sing. I always thought the end was sloppy but bearable. Now I can listen again. Thanks to who ever is putting these up.
Yes. The original solo on the album was soul powered, white brother Ron Bykowski. He used two Marshall amps facing each other for feedback. You know who said that? Gary Shider !
Saw P-Funk twice in Los Angeles during this period and was one of the very few whites in the audience. Brothers kept asking "Are you sure you're at the right concert? You really here to see Bootsy and P-Funk???'" Damn straight bro! They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Yeah we did. This brought back alot of memories. Like walking down Wheeler while this was playing. And walking up to one of the very few houses with a fence on Wheeler. Seems like we made a few bucks that day.
Michael played the opening solo then the equipment malfunctioned and Garry Shider had to play the ending solo by himself. At that time, Michael and Garry traded off in the closing solo and then played together to end the song.
Although distorted, this is great performance from Bennie Worrell and Gary Shider with his on the spot solo bring it all together for Clinton to come out with his Super-Fly Feathered costume. There will never be another....Parliament/Funkadelic! Cosmic Slop has always had a better sound performed live than the studio cutt.
I was there that night it just shows how great this band is great recovery it could have been a disaster like you said. They had sound issues majority of the night but they still threw down one of their best shows I attended.
@chiknfulio No kidding? Wow....that is crazy. I feel like they made the track lengths short (for the most part) on the Funkadelic albums after "Maggot" and before "One Nation" probly just so they could fit all the tunes on... The fade-outs always came too quickly for me but I love em anyway.
I was there! Just about everybody in DC was there at the Capitol Center. Great as always. I saw George Clinton and his grandchildren jamming at the Howard Theater.
@uzipolo Detroit '78 Home of the Funk is the one I believe you're looking for. My favorite version and they just explode with energy. It follows with maggot brain and they kill it on that too. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!
Posses me off that after a thousand performances of this great song they still never learned to turn up Gary's mic!!!! This song definitely belonged on the P-Funk Live album back in the 70s. I know it was pretty much a Parliament/Casablanca release but if they put "Undisco Kid" on it, they could have put "Slop" on it.
Doc, u absolutely R I G H T on that 1 un funk'KAY person who obviously never been hit with a funk stick up side the head like all us Funkateer's :) This is R A W Nass'tay documented FUNK :)
R.I.P GARRY "DIAPER MAN STARCHILD" SHIDER, ANOTHER LEGEND GONE TO SOON. HOPE YOU, EDDIE HAZEL, GLEN GOINS AND RAY "STINGRAY" DAVIS ARE ARE UP THERE FUNKIN & ROCKIN THAT SHIT OUT. ROCK ON BROTHA
Yeah, I been on the boat, but not at this show. Being a musician I wanted to see it all. But boat, dam. Its been along time. I'm on da boat, you on the boat, errybody on the boat boat. You got me thinkin I wanna be on the boat now.lol
OMG! They took it off. I agree...why? THe Houston 1976 P-Funk Earth tour performance was the best ever! I have the video of the concert. Mike 'Kid Funkadelic' Hampton killed the intro! Why would they remove hat one?!
lol....You're right. What I was thinking about was an old vhs I have of the Oakland Lef of the Earth Tour & recorded on the LP. It was the same show and songs with Slop being the opening jam & Children Of Production next, then Standin On The Verge. They did a few Funkadelic jams but only Undisco Kidd, & I THINK Get Off Yo Ass made it onto the album. Don't know why though.
People really don't know how great these guys are and were,I've had the opportunity to live play and converse with these guys on their way to greatness. These are the guys who created funk and made it a thing to be funky!
i have also heard ANOTHER VERSION of this but the pitch speed was fast and the INTRO and the OUTRO guitar solos were longer do you have an idea which group performed this or IS IT the houston 76 concert?
Even though there's technical diffulculties, hearing bernie do his fill ins is strong, and for that cause'why not put up wit the tech diffulcult stuff .....fly on my space people
This is a great fuckin song but, the BEST version of this song that I EVER heard is by The D.C. funk group BLACK HEAT!!!! I don't know how true this is but, I was told that a guy named KING RAYMOND GREEN sang all the lead and background vocals on that song and did a rap, as a slap at George Clinton for stealing a song from him. Check out that version, because I think that version knocks George out the box!!!!
Eddie was not part of the pfunk earth tour nor the Mothership Connection tour. He made a couple of appearances during "78/79" but he wasn't in the official lineup. The lead guitar duty was handled by Michael Hampton. Later around late 78 and early 79 he added other musicians as part of the act i.e Blackbird, Lige Curry, and a host of others because many of them were musicians from his spin off acts. George had a entourage of musicians in his stable by that time.
i have to agree to the poster on this one this was sloppy and the ALBULM P Funk live was BETTER sounding the the DVD that i also have it seems like the ALBULM was very much edited and also seemed like they made no mistakes as well case in point the song swing down sweet chariot but when you look at it THIS was BEFORE flashlight so its still impressive and they surley had the talent..says uzipolo king of decatur
So what, some things (music) sounds better when there are problems, just like a LP belongs on a LP, my Generation is I, I I mac I war, I.I.I, I T.V. boring like Satan
Pfunk. James brown blaxplotation films disco music cool white music and old school hanna barbera and disney cartoons battle of the planets it didnt get much better
In 1969-72, FUNKADELICS were a. pure R&R band and were one of the originators of funk, as it took Funk a minute to catch on with the main stream; artists like Sly Stone and Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan had a few chart hits in 1974, then Funk became more mainstream but the Funkadelics stayed Funk and by Funkadelics being true to it's metal the mantra fell to them and George Clinton was able to ride the wave.
OMFG! I WAS AT THIS SHOW! I didn't know there was any video available! I can't believe I'm just finding this. The smoke in the air gave us a contact high. The whole night was incredible!
I know it was cause I saw the same show in New York
Right I was I high as hell
So ooo thankful for these priceless videos from back in my hay days. Use to catch these tours in Greensboro NC between 1977 thru 1980, HIGH.... school days.
Me too when I was at A&T
The late Garry "Starchild" Shider singing and playing lead on Cosmic Slop in Chocolate City after Michael Hampton's amp went out. You will be missed Garry.

@nasty704 yes, Hazel died in '92. But he had been to jail in '74, in fact Michael Hampton replaced him as lead guitar then.
I think this is my 2nd favorite verson of this song. That bassline is funky for real
Yes. The original solo on the album was soul powered, white brother Ron Bykowski. He used two Marshall amps facing each other for feedback. You know who said that? Gary Shider !

I love hearing Gary Shider play. Pity he couldn't have a solo like that on a studio track once in a while.
Yeah we did. This brought back alot of memories. Like walking down Wheeler while this was playing. And walking up to one of the very few houses with a fence on Wheeler. Seems like we made a few bucks that day.
I was there and CHANGED FOREVER !!!!!!!!
The Cosmic Slop Is My Thing !!
Michael played the opening solo then the equipment malfunctioned and Garry Shider had to play the ending solo by himself. At that time, Michael and Garry traded off in the closing solo and then played together to end the song.
Nevermind the problems. The Pfunk crowd that was there didn't care. George exited the Mothership buck naked. Remember that .....
Leave it to Garry to save the day. He is a great band leader.
Thats true talent right there! Kept the grove and rose from chaos. =:)
Garry's solos (though rare) have always been impressive. He KILLED one in '77? but the audio went out on him too!
Yes. Luckily, it’s on TH-cam.
Although distorted, this is great performance from Bennie Worrell and Gary Shider with his on the spot solo bring it all together for Clinton to come out with his Super-Fly Feathered costume. There will never be another....Parliament/Funkadelic! Cosmic Slop has always had a better sound performed live than the studio cutt.
i love seeing these old clips when shit was golden n raw
oh man, that's bad ass how he fills in......that's a tight band. Most bands have one shredder, gary comes in and saves it. And a funky outro.
Was there at the Cap Center...wow, where did all the time go, man
Love how they kept remixing their songs over and over again
INCREDIBLE
@6402680 I think he pulled off one of the better solos of any version of "cosmic slop". Long live Gary Shider!!!
The version on Hardcore Jollies is the best. I heard they recorded it in a airplane hanger in upstate new york.
Best live performance, PERIOD.
What a comeback 👍🏾
IT IS ON THE PARLIAMENT LIVE LP...Circa 1977...P-Funk Earth Tour!
I was there that night it just shows how great this band is great recovery it could have been a disaster like you said. They had sound issues majority of the night but they still threw down one of their best shows I attended.
+Ray Smith far out ray
These mutha fukkas is professional musicians and entertainers, one of the greatest Afro American Rock bands ever.
@pollywarrior agree , this version is the best ,
I hear ya....I feel the same way... The live performances identify the band, in my opion...Peace and Prosperity!!
G
Heh, I was there!
the bass line is sooooo funky sweet funk oh sweet funk!
@chiknfulio Also the whole "space ppl" intro is different from the album.
If "Cosmic Slop" is on your Parliament Live double LP from 1977, you're the only one on the planet that has it.
My dope!
RIP Garry Shider, you will be missed! I want to get funked up! Make mine!
I was there! Just about everybody in DC was there at the Capitol Center. Great as always. I saw George Clinton and his grandchildren jamming at the Howard Theater.
Play on Garry! Rest in P...

Father Father it's for the kids, any and everything I did. Please please don't judge me too strong...
Lord knows I meant no wrong ! Lord knows I meant no wrong, then the devil sang....
He almost makes you forget about Hampton's solo

who says a funk band can't play rock? ;-)
