    For people who do not know this, an Olympic sized pool (50m) is longer than a Short Course Yard pool (mostly used in the United States). Many people who state their times are not converting them to LCM and therefore cause a lot of confusion. In the States, LCM meets are usually in the summer compared to SCY being in the winter.

    • @zacharysanders7356
      @zacharysanders7356 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for saying this. Everyone is so confused and saying their times are "better" than the Olympians. There is usually about a 3-5 second difference for a 50 and about 8-10 in a 100. (for an average swimmer).

      +Zachary Sanders haha it is somewhat surprising to me the people who do not know this, especially those who swim.

      Brinson Hubbard It's true, but I don't swim in the US, so I always swim in 50m pool.

    The wannabes who are saying that they're way faster... Congratulations, I officially don't care! :) I also just wanted to point out that these are HEATS. In the beginning, they section off those from slower countries so that they can actually have a chance to compete. Considering that most of you are from the U.S., it's not fair to compare yourselves to people from small countries because every country has a different standard for various events. If you want to see fast, I suggest you go watch the finals and THEN, you can brag about how your time is supposedly faster than the Olympians.

    THIS is the heart of the Olympics... the lesser known countries send their best swimmers, and however and wherever they finish, they always will be known as OLYMPIANS!

    Ok for everyone saying that the first few heats were very slow and how did they get in the olympics. Do u see what countries they’re from? Not a lot of people in those countries even get and opportunity to swim. There just swimming to represent they’re country it doesn’t mean they have to have the fastest time.

  • @zacharysanders7356
    @zacharysanders7356 8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Everyone is saying "it's different it's an Olympic sized pool" in response to someone saying their time followed by "in long course". Long course is an Olympic sized pool. Olympic sized pool isn't rare, mostly all clubs have a long course season.

  • @Isolateds
    @Isolateds 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For the people who can’t get it over their head that they are not in the olympics and have faster times let me explain. The fastest people from each country are sent to the olympics to compete and if the country’s fastest go something like 38 then they are still sent. I’ve newly turnt 13 and go 29.21 but guess what I’m not in the olympics 👏🏼

    For those who are stupid enough not to understand the reason the first couple of heats are very slow is because the countries don't have strong teams or are very small. That's the reason why their times were so slow.

    Guys they're "slower" cause they're swimming meters not yards. Yards are a lot shorter than meters plus it's an Olympic size pool. Double the size so they're basically swimming a 100 yards

    Okay... A ton of people are saying, I'm only and I'm way faster than them! No. You're usually not. (Not trying to be mean and speak for everyone) the olympic pool is longer than the pool's we usually swim in. For a 50 I'm usually 24.0. In this pool I'm probably a 40-50.

      Your time is alright. What nobody realizes is that 50m is actually hard...you have to really do everything perfectly because it's so short and it's so easy to fall behind. A bad start, too much breathing, or a bad flip turn can easily put you behind.

And so what if your faster than some of them? You not the only one. I think their amazing for being there... it is such an achievement.

    I know that the reason the first few heats are slower is because in smaller countries the times will be slower and those countries will pick their fastest swimmers to compete but isn't there still Fina times you would have to get in order to get to the heats?

    I'm kind of confused about the first heats. To swim a 37 or a 42 is kind of slow for that. Can anybody explain?

    • @kore7375
      @kore7375 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slower swimmers generally go in the first heats. They take previous qualification times and then section the swimmers off into heats based on those times. So, slower swimmers go first and faster swimmers go last.

    • @JamesLack
      @JamesLack 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sydney Nichols no not exactly. That's all right except the smaller less developed countries are in heats to compete against eachother so there is a sense of competition for them so they are not destroyed.

    • @shesthetearinmyladdershape9954
      @shesthetearinmyladdershape9954 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sydney Nichols ik slower.swimmers go first, but im asking since this is the Olympics shouldn't the times be super fast? (compared to me) But Im pretty sure that people said its because pf the smaller countries and stuff.

    • @SolidVichoPSN
      @SolidVichoPSN 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah St It's because these countries are from the first world, meaning, that they are very poor and they cannot afford, sometimes, to have a pool. Their economic status affects their swimming time since it's cannot be profesional. So the Olympics allows these swimmers to participate so they can represent their small country.

    What are 'heats'?

    • @JamesLack
      @JamesLack 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heats are based on times. If you have a slower time then everyone else you are put into a lane near the outside of the pool if you are fast you are put in the middle. Each heat has faster times until the last heat which is the fastest

    okay basically most of you swim in a basic 25 meter pool and my time as a 12 year old in a 50 of that is 26, in the olympic sized pool it is a little bit longer and my time last year is a 33 so idk what is with the slow swimmers in heat one and just by watching them from different views they're really slow ( no offense im just comparing to olympic times). So some one explain to me why people that have 37-42 seconds are in heats in the heats for olympics

    • @brinsonhubbard8172
      @brinsonhubbard8172 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Olympics support countries that have not devolved to send at least 1-2 athletes, even though the times may be slow. Many of these countries don't even have a regulation sized pool if any at all.

      For god sake These are heats, they start from the slowest and get quicker each time, No offence if i get this wrong but you are most likely american, meaning you are a much bigger country and they are racing much smaller countries because then the smaller countries who dont get as much time to Train or practise, so if they compete with the other smaller countries they actually have a chance to win, instead of having stuff like Egypt or jamaica against america or great britain
