But you can actually learn a lot about their personalities and how they’re feeling from how they’re sleeping.
You can tell if they’re feeling carefree or anxious by how they sleep, and you can also learn a lot about how they’re feeling by where they sleep.
See what your Golden Retriever’s sleeping positions mean in this video.

On the 1st night we had our Goldie we put his bed on the bedroom floor, he came in, looked at his bed, looked at our bed, picked up his bed, dragged it on to our bed, lay on it and went to sleep 😊

My golden is a super snuggler with a permanent puppy complex. At night in bed or for naps he sleeps curled up against me or half on top of me, and during waking hours when his snuggle meter is low he wants to climb up in my office chair with me. I wouldn't have it any other way. I had no idea dogs could be SO affectionate! He's perfect.

One of our goldens (UK Working dog strain) sleeps next to me (I sit on the floor) on his back with his tummy leaning against my lap.
But all 6 of our goldens (2 are 3-4 month old puppies) are spoilt rotten, but not to their detriment.
In the current very hot UK weather, they are given natural yoghurt with their meal (dried food & tinned meat) rather than the normal gravy. 5 of the 6 dogs sleep on their back, the oldest who is 12 years old sometimes sleeps on her back, but most of the time she sleeps on her side. We nickname her Miss Madam as cuddles (pets) have to be given when she demands it. She also loves showing her tummy for us to pet and check. A few years ago she had 2 tumours removed so we frequently check her.
Have had golden retrievers for over 30 years and loved and spoilt every one of them.

My golden howls in his sleep sometimes, usually loudly enough to wake himself up. I call his "froggy pose" the bear rug, and it's usually right in the path of whatever I'm doing, especially in the kitchen.

All my life (when I didn`t have a dog) I found it uncomfortable and not smart when I saw or heard people let their dogs on the couch or sleep in the same bed. Now I have a 13 months old Golden retriever. He is allowed on every couch and sleeps inches away from me in our bed :) Love to cuddle him when he wants to haha.

I mean your house is the entire world they get. You can't reduce that space even further by telling them they're only allowed on the floor

When I sit in the floor so my Golden Retriever can sit in my lap he has to immediately get, not one, but 2 or three close by chew toys in his mouth before laying in my lap. It's hilarious.

My fiancé gets up an hour and a half before i do in the mornings, every single morning after she gets up my 11 yr old Retriever/lab mix decides its his time for cuddles and plops down back to back with me, otherwise he is at the doorway to whatever room im in, sitting so he can see me and look around the house.

My puppy Sam is definitely position 2 & 3 so far. He is my first Golden after 22 years of having Bullmastiffs. He is a joy, and definitely has different mindset from the guarding breeds lol.

I crate trained my dog the first time she came to our home. I slept on the floor next to her crate for a week until she was comfort in there by herself. She is 9 months now and she won't sleep anywhere else. We got her a big, soft bed and she just didn't care. She will rest on my laps on the couch but she will never go sleep. When she is sleepy, she goes back to her crate or sleep on cold hard floor.😅

I have two goldens boys, the have full run of the house, they each have their own habits, but are glued at the hips. One will get on the bed with me and the other plays guard dog sleeping in the doorway, but they are both my shadows, and I love them both.

Mine has an additional odd sleeping position. He LOVES to sleep in a "sideways sit" (as in, his body is in the "sit" position, but he is on his side, with the paws against a wall. He's allowed in the couch, and sometimes the bed :)

I won't say I 'dislike' this--because I would have to be a monster to not love almost ten minutes of golden retrievers.
I do have to point out, however, that it seems the only thing *unique* to golden's is the couch/bed statistic.
As far as I know, these behaviours are largely shared by all dogs...
...and much of it shared by cats...
    ...cows...
    ...most quadruped mammals...
    ...and probably even non-mammalian species.
(Maybe not as much for cold-blooded animals, but...still...)
    Love it either way, though!!!

Letting your dog sleep in your bed does not mean you love it more. In fact, it could mean exactly the opposite... it may mean that you are lazy and don't want to take the time to properly crate train or train them to sleep in their bed.
