i'm looking at this smiling. My golden is now 7 months and is great with telling us she has to go. We had some minor accidents during months 4 & 5 because she changed how she tells us she has to go. She use to go to the door and ring the doorbell, but then she realized mom (me) is always taking her so she started coming directly to me whining and giving me the look. I thought she just wanted attention so i'd pet her, hug her and she'd walk off frustrated. She would pittle cause she had to go so badly. Well she has mom trained now. We just make sure when i'm not home someone is taking her outside to potty. Thankfully she always goes even though she doesn't really have to. Thanks for your videos!!! To all the new moms and dads of new puppies, you got this!!
I’ve had my puppy for a week. She is 9 weeks old. We are doing what you suggest and any accidents she has had is because we left it too long before taking her out. She went into the crate the first night home (after taking her out to potty) at the same time as us around 10.30 pm. She then slept until 7.00 am when we got her out of the crate and took her immediately outside. We are so lucky!
My wife an I have a lot of learning to-do. We have been making a few of these mistakes repeatedly. But we only brought our golden home last week, so we have time to course correct.
Well i am 3 years late for the par-ty lol. Today is March 2024 we just got 6 weeks Goldie first time Goldie owners. Yes Milo is the opposite of our Shih tzuh password away in 2013. Milo is a hand ful takes 3 of us to care for him on potty training we swing shifts lol. Yes lots of work very hard, but we are doing exactly what you're stating. We still get accidents but not as many anymore when we frist bought him home the next 2 days. The accidents because my husband was om his ph and forgot Milo is there lol. We never get upset at Milo with the accidents. Hopefully Milo is potty trained soon! Thank you
I just brought my golden retriever home yesterday! These tips are really helpful. But the breeder told us not to wake up the puppy during the night and let her pee because then she will get used to it and that having an accident during the night for the first two weeks is normal...
got puppy few days ago. i feel this video lacked details in the following situations: if we should not be angry after "accidents" then what should you do? take outside immediatley? etc? or what? also how to handle over nights with new puppy. should we set alarm for every few hours and wake up puppy and take out>? or just be wary of them whining and go when they wine? is accidents overnight less significant than daytime? etc
My golden retriever X Collie only pooed in my house twice. I was extremely lucky and the sign was hiccups. He gets hiccups when he is nervous and got nervous when he needed to poo. Peeing took about 2 weeks before all accidents were eliminated. He is 5 months old now and is too damn smart for his own good.
I enjoy and learn a lot watching your videos man ! My puppy Jax is is right around 10 weeks old ! And right now puppy pads are a lifesaver inside the house but I do have a question though ? How do I get him to stop thinking puppy pads are a chew toy ?
I don't know what to do i brought my puppy today and had three accidents. when i go out with her she is eating rocks and I'm very worried right now and also she is very naughty and I'm afraid that what will happen at night if she doesn't sleep at all she is not staying in her cage and i think this video will help a lot
Thanks! There's not really a difference. One difference is that larger breeds (like goldens) can typically hold it for longer, quicker than smaller breeds (like chihuahuas) but all the strategies to potty training are essentially the same.
hey I have I 8-week old puppy and i don thave vaccination yet but i take him out on my backyard but I don't let him go to grass and have pads indoors and I don't want to use crate is there any suggestions of how can i train him with pad?
Very useful tips. Will start applying them. My puppy is almost 4 months old though, is it not too late? Are there different tips for this age or the same as the video?
Hi.. Brother. My golden retriever puppy not yet 2months . She now only 1and half months so I can teach to potty training go outside she can understand? It's is good bring out this little puppy before second vaccine ?
Hi! Y’all’s videos have helped me a lot. However, my new golden puppy will pee like a champ outside but won’t poop outside. This is with going every 30 minutes. What could I be doing wrong?
Hi There! We’ve just got a pup he’s 8 weeks old. When we catch him having an accident we quickly pick him up and take him outside to finish but he always stops, any recommendations?
Make sure that you're cleaning up his accidents with an enzymatic cleaner so he's not tempted to go inside at the same spot every time. And if you know he has to go, you might have to take him outside a few times in a row to get him to go. When you take him inside between these outside times, you can put him in his crate where he's not likely to go, then take him out after 5 minutes and try to go outside again. Of course, always praising him for going outside where he's supposed to.
It’s natural for puppies that age to be hyper. Make sure he’s getting enough mental stimulation, like through training and puzzle toys, and also make sure he’s getting enough sleep. Hyper puppies can sometimes actually be over tired puppies
Our Golden’s toilet word is ‘hurry’. Each time we took him outside (not to play) we’d say hurry. He learnt very quickly to let us know when he wanted a ‘hurry’.
My breeder told me a pup can basically "hold it" one hour for every month old they are. It was true for my golden. It was literally every hour there for a while.
clear up your schedule for a few weeks when you get a puppy and/or make sure somebody else can be at home to look after it. you don't want to get a puppy and then leave it at home for so many hours all day every day, then it's definitely the wrong time
Puppies can typically hold their bladders for only a few hours when you first take them home (assuming they're 8 weeks old), so 6 hours will probably be a bit of a stretch at first.
Guys please help me, I adopted a 7 months Golden Retriever yesterday, She was living with a young girl that didn't have time for the dog and just kept her in crate in the balcony of a small flat and literally no kind of training for the dog. That's basically the reason for her to gave up. I'm living in a large double stories house with a garden around. So the dog was very excited from the beginning, same as i was and started to play and lick all over. My problems with the her are, first of she is 7 month and is not trained for potty so she does accidents everywhere, also she sticks to me more than expected, i mean she constantly wants to hug, lick my face, hold my hand in her mouth and she is all over me at all times. I couldn't sleep last night because she wants to come on the bed and not sleep beside the bed and even when i let her she doesn't want to sleep and force me to play or lick my face ....she is super active, and doesn't give me a second to do anything...i'm desperate now after 24 hours. please guide me. thank you a million times in advance.
Get a crate for her at least for night. We give our puppy a treat in the crate and she has never minded going in there at night. She sleeps for about 7 hours straight. Your dog might be too old for this but we also got a fluffy sheep with a heart beat inside which we leave with her in the crate. Also they do need a lot of exercise as the other person mentioned.
I have a 4 month old golden retriever that I've had for 2 days and she has pooped and peed in her crate both nights. She was taken out to go potty before she was put in the crate for the night at 11 pm and was taken out at 6:15 am when I woke up in the morning. So what am I doing wrong?
late to this, hope you got it sorted out! it could be that the crate was simply too big for her. if the crate is too big, you leave an area for the puppy to pee and poop in and it can just scoot over to the other end. you may also want to figure out your puppy's peepee poopoo schedule and take her out at night if she needs to go. i know somebody who had to take their 8w old puppy out every 2hrs at night for a period of time until it got older
My first Golden, way back when, was 15 weeks almost 16 weeks old when I got her and she was potty trained inside of week, my next golden was 10 to 12 weeks old when I got her and she took about 3 to 4 weeks to potty train, I just got a new Golden and he is only 8 weeks old and I can tell he is going to take some time, I think just like in the human world boy dogs are not as smart on girl dogs at this age.
How do you train the dog complicated commands? Like you'd say a certain food and it would bring the food to you.(of course, this is just an example, but I would like to teach it commands similiar to that one)

When you’re taking a puppy from the crate to outside do you leash them or do you pick them up and carry them?
I will be a potty training master!!! I have also realized that the days of sleeping 7-8 hours a night are so over...
They'll come back soon!
I'm carrying my 36 days old female GR on my lap and watching this video just after cleaning its poop ;-)
I don't know what to do i brought my puppy today and had three accidents. when i go out with her she is eating rocks and I'm very worried right now and also she is very naughty and I'm afraid that what will happen at night if she doesn't sleep at all she is not staying in her cage and i think this video will help a lot

How long 7 weeks puppy can hold?
Hi There! We’ve just got a pup he’s 8 weeks old. When we catch him having an accident we quickly pick him up and take him outside to finish but he always stops, any recommendations?
ditto
I an getting my golden retriever like after 2 years and I'm watching this now. Lol
What if I’m taking him out constantly, but he waits to go when he’s back inside? He was doing so well at first going outside for training
Make sure that you're cleaning up his accidents with an enzymatic cleaner so he's not tempted to go inside at the same spot every time. My retriver is 34 days old can i take him out?i am afraid that he will get ill cause he shivers even in some cold weather.
How do i make a 2 months old puppy to calm down he is pretty hyper.
It’s natural for puppies that age to be hyper. Make sure he’s getting enough mental stimulation, like through training and puzzle toys, and also make sure he’s getting enough sleep. Hyper puppies can sometimes actually be over tired puppies
@@goldenhearts8822 ohhh, thanks is there any tip on how to stop them from biting stuffs
Does this work for other puppies?
Thank you 😊 my puppy Coda who came home a few days ago is getting it now lol
Love this
How much food do I give my golden retriever she’s 4 months weight 25 .
I'd read the package and talk to your vet. It depends on your individual puppy and the type of food.
Our Golden’s toilet word is ‘hurry’. Each time we took him outside (not to play) we’d say hurry. He learnt very quickly to let us know when he wanted a ‘hurry’.

I have taken my puppy out and used our potty command and sometimes she doesn’t go, and then she potties as soon as we walk inside. What am I missing?
How do you do this if you work all day?
don't get a dog?
