My child added a password to his tablet and forgot it the next day and I couldn't get it to restart/go to the menu to factory reset. So, thank you a billion times over! I now no longer have an expensive paper weight!
My daughter's touchscreen has stopped working completely. I just used this to force a restart and once I'd done that the touchscreen started working again. You are my hero!!
Your steps worked for me. Thank you. In your example however, when you rebooted, you would have been asked for the password (you can't remember) when you picked reboot. Mine was asking me for my password too. Instead of reboot, I scrolled down to wipe data and run factory reset. Once I did this, the password was eliminated. I chose PIN as my security tool this time.

I looked at hours of video and this is the best, thanks so much. Very clearly explains that when in the Warning screen to get to the recovery screen you select volume down, then quickly press vol up, power and home. Tried this for hours previously and I kept going to a download screen.

well, i dont know if this will help me move forward trying to remove lock screens with third party software, but my phone is malfunctioning so bad I couldn't even try safe mode. At least you aren't another video titled "SOLVED!..." and just showing how to hard reset- which ANY basic Google search will show. Thumbs up, and thank you!
