John Mayer can't help that he's attractive and girls love him. Don't let the fact that he's a heart throb take away from his skills on the guitar. He's a serious bluesman at heart, and I have a lot of respect for him. And if you ever see interviews with him, all he does is praise people like Clapton and SRV, he's actually pretty humble.

Man picked up guitar at 13
    Played like srv in 17
    Wrote neon in 21
    Got all the hot chicks
    Plays blues on point

    Hit after hit songs
    Plays impossible style

John is right though. SRV could play with extreme intensity for hours and hours a night without tiring. Very humble of John to confess that he is not capable of the intensity for but a fraction of time. I think he is trying to say that he is very much a fan of SRV just like the rest of us rather than a reincarnation.

Mayer has won 7 Grammys and has been nominated for like 19 others. Blues music doesn’t sell like it used to. Mayer figured out how to incorporate it into the mainstream. Just because some of you cant let go of the old ass geezer guitar players doesnt mean mayer isnt one of the best today. There is nothing wrong with playing your ass off to pay tribute to your guitar idol as a child.

Can't list all the notes here, but it involves sliding the 1 box up to the fret of the V chord, and playing a typical box 1 lick there, then sliding down 2 frets to the position of the IV chord and starting to play the same lick, but leaving off half way and dropping back to Box 1 at the root note.
Now that i've written that, it's probably not very helpful at all, but oh well... :)

So Excited. KILLER JAM. I remember asking my dad why people were crying when Elvis died since they didn't know him personally. Q95 in Indy was reporting on Stevie's crash in the morning and I was about 95% asleep but heard it subconsciously, and woke up after 2 or 3 repeats, and I found out personally why they cried. He was THE BEST blues player to ever touch a guitar and was unendingly humble, and was so aware of how much he'd been gifted with the ability to play like that. He gets off the schitt, shoots to a level of stardom he could never have never even imagined, and then he's taken. So sad.

Hendrix and SRV are untouchable. Clearly the two greatest guitarist of all time. But there's no need to bash Mayer. He's very talented and could become a great in time.

@@CalabrianVince and Rolling Stone puts Kurt Cobain in their “100 greatest guitarists” and John is not there , it’s just so soooo embarrassing , they should be embarrassed to have that list

his Try! cd is all his john mayer trio stuff and is mostly blues. hes got daughters in there but he strips the acoustic part of it completely and makes it more bluesy or jazzy or w/e you wanna call it.

As somebody who's played guitar for 11 years and counting I think of Stevie Ray Vaughan among the best if not the best that's ever played. John Mayer playing with that skill level at that age is awesome and I really hope down the road Mayer releases a SRV-like blues album :)

stevie would be proud. i like how he throws a bunch of his own licks in there. stevie played it a little harder and never missed a beat even when he slit up and down the guitar, he'de be back on the beat. john mayer loves that third box in the blues scale, he sure can make it sound good. he's deffinatly bringing back the blues. influencing 15, 16 year old girls; nothing wrong with that.

Love it, wish he'd play this all the time...he definitely keeps it a little jazzier feeling then Stevie's straight up destruction of the guitar. Both of which are cool.

Mayer pulls off SRV styles quite well.

All great music gets recycled but modified..thats the beauty of it..getting inspired then taking what you heard playing off of it and putting your spin on it. Thats what jm did. He is a genius def. one of the best artists of this generation. His guitar playing has its similarities to the greats but he 100 percent has a unique style at the same time!!!

Mayer has actually played with Clapton, BB and Guy and icons like them. And they were quite impressed in my opinion..

I'm glad someone mainstream is still playing the blues. The good thing is this guy will show it to people who otherwise may not have found it...
Like Muddy Waters did when he first plugged in his loud electric guitar in England, which inspired Eric Clapton to play. And who can tell how many people Clapton has inspired-blues and rock musicians. Stevie Ray was inspired by everyone before him, like Muddy Waters, Clapton, Lightnin Hopkins, Albert King (the list is endless). SRV inspired JMayer

I think the thing about Mayer is that he opened a door for his your body is a wonderland fans to blues. You can see it here, how well come back to bed fits after this beatifull jam. He built a bridge and he gets a lot of credit for it. And I think it's fair, Continuum was a risk for him but it was so good that it payed off. Same thing for the trio. I don't see Justin Timberlake doing a trio tour;) And he's probably never going to be SRV but he did encourage me to get an album of his...
