John Mayer can't help that he's attractive and girls love him. Don't let the fact that he's a heart throb take away from his skills on the guitar. He's a serious bluesman at heart, and I have a lot of respect for him. And if you ever see interviews with him, all he does is praise people like Clapton and SRV, he's actually pretty humble.

Mayer has won 7 Grammys and has been nominated for like 19 others. Blues music doesn’t sell like it used to. Mayer figured out how to incorporate it into the mainstream. Just because some of you cant let go of the old ass geezer guitar players doesnt mean mayer isnt one of the best today. There is nothing wrong with playing your ass off to pay tribute to your guitar idol as a child.

Eric Clapton always had The Mayer at his Crossroads guitar festival. Only the best are invited to that. John was and still is always respectfull to the older blues artist and the blues. Cool young man. Ive been playing blues in harp for years and also have a deep respect like that also. Even if Mayer didnt play that style i still like him alot.
I'm not an expert by any stretch. What I am is a very serious fan of SRV. From reading about and watching videos and interviews, I have found him to be very respectful and appreciative of other players, young and old. I truly believe he would have enjoyed playing with him

Can't list all the notes here, but it involves sliding the 1 box up to the fret of the V chord, and playing a typical box 1 lick there, then sliding down 2 frets to the position of the IV chord and starting to play the same lick, but leaving off half way and dropping back to Box 1 at the root note. Now that i've written that, it's probably not very helpful at all, but oh well... :)

playing come back to bed right after that bad ASS srv shuffle makes it pretty clear to see how he's put blues in pop.. so many hendrix, bb, and srv licks in some of his songs it's pretty "ear opening" if you will, to hear it all being put together. versatility is such a strong point for mayer. wow.

So Excited. KILLER JAM. I remember asking my dad why people were crying when Elvis died since they didn't know him personally. Q95 in Indy was reporting on Stevie's crash in the morning and I was about 95% asleep but heard it subconsciously, and woke up after 2 or 3 repeats, and I found out personally why they cried. He was THE BEST blues player to ever touch a guitar and was unendingly humble, and was so aware of how much he'd been gifted with the ability to play like that. He gets off the schitt, shoots to a level of stardom he could never have never even imagined, and then he's taken. So sad.
John Meyer has got this shuffle down pat and he is sensational at it..with all his greatness in the strat guitar and not missing a note..a legend on the strings and a great band..his hands and fingers ready for any mishap,well it's not gonna happen on this stage..a phenomenal act to follow
Great tribute.. SRV was the king of blues and his experience gave his predecessor like Mayer new ways to express themselves. He changed the way blues is played and heard nowadays. Stop complaining about mayer, he's a very talented guitarist and he brings a lot of young people into the real musical world with his bluesy pop songs. And this is truely what we need if we wanna hear new blues masterpieces.. Sadly, SRV won't come back, spare some room for the new generations

Have you heard his album Try! with the John Mayer Trio? It's really phenomenal.. It captures a lot of the essence of live playing you're referring to here.
Hendrix and SRV are untouchable. Clearly the two greatest guitarist of all time. But there's no need to bash Mayer. He's very talented and could become a great in time.

his Try! cd is all his john mayer trio stuff and is mostly blues. hes got daughters in there but he strips the acoustic part of it completely and makes it more bluesy or jazzy or w/e you wanna call it.
As somebody who's played guitar for 11 years and counting I think of Stevie Ray Vaughan among the best if not the best that's ever played. John Mayer playing with that skill level at that age is awesome and I really hope down the road Mayer releases a SRV-like blues album :)
