One important thing: After filling the reservoir with fresh fluid, you should flush the line, then fill up as needed.

Dude makes me want that bike, then I remember I have that bike. BTW your wife is gold. Still got to pay attention to the reservoir. I note on my 2018 the rear brake always turns to mush over a short time. Lot of people complain about this.

Nice tip with the strap. I use an old hockey stick and push down on the leaver. But will try this next time.

Have you ever considered speed bleaders. They work so well that I have used them for yrs. 2013 bmwr1200rt,184,000km.

My R1200RT is 2014 with 30k miles but it doesn't look anywhere near as good. I restored a lot of it but riding in UK weather all year round isn't kind to the bike. Just renewed my rear calliper pistons and seals but there's always that last bit of stubborn air stuck in the system somewhere. Maybe in the ABS

    Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.
Always pump through master cylinder, with fresh fluid. By sticking hoses and sucking fluids out, you introduce contamination. Today fluid is hydrophobic, by absorbing humidity into it.
Just get extra BMW fresh fluid canister and pump fluid out of rear caliper. Took me 15-20 minutes to replace entire canister. Just by trying to create a content, not helping other Faulks.
Great entertainment, nothing else. A simple process exaggerated to a MAX...

So the BMW manual is wrong..😂. BTW brake fluid was allways hygroscopic.😉

Hi Old Mechanic, another great video from you, I like them all. A lot of what applies to the water-cooled one is also the same as your air-cooled Beemer or my R 1200 R from 2012. By the way: you have a clever wife 😇

Old mechanic, I'm watching all your videos from here in Brazil, I'm going to buy a bike like yours and I want to learn a lot about certain maintenance. Thank you very much for the objective explanations. After all, could you make a video about cleaning the cardan shaft? ❤

If you use venting valves + vacuum suction bellow from Stahlbus you dont need a strap. And If you have Moto Scan and the OBD adaptor you can activate ABS ventig program to flush the old fluid from your ABS system too.

I used a one way valve from an aquarium air pump line into the waste container then simply pumped the fluid through, closed nipple when clear fluid run through

    • @N269
      @N269 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just get a new DOT4 bottle if you don't bleed brakes regularly. Don't "borrow" and don't use 2001 bottle... use fresh (or within last 6months) fluid.
Get 2 smaller bottles as you'll use more or less than others. Every brake fluid change will use different amounts. There is no hard and fast rule on quantities -KEEP THE RESERVOIR TOPPED UP! NEVER REUSE WHAT IS EXPELLED regardless of how nice it looks.

That was what I was thinking as this is a s/s swinging arm. And would have allowed a minor grease service on the spline?

USA toilet paper is not nearly so sturdy. We have tender back sides.
