I would just ad a small note.
Best would be to suck the old contaminated brake fluid from the front and rear brake fluid reservoir with a seringe, clean up if necessary the reservoir with a clean rag and top up both of them with new fluid .
That would avoid to send some contaminated brake fluid back into the brakes line .
This is how I do , and I believe it makes sens .

Upon returning from Germany I will swap the three valves on my 2010 R1200 GS Adv with valves from Stahlbus. Seems to make everything easier.

Brake fluid is like aloe for human skin😂😂😂. Also try to dip it in your eyes to improve night vision😅

You should throw the sponges away. They aren't really needed, they were a fix for problems on the K bike brakes. Since the sponge turns to gel after a few years you must either replace it with every fluid change or discard it altogether. Many have done the latter with no ill effect.
Good info, actualy I hated it. For what I know its inthere to prevent 'foaming' from the brakefluid. But now I know it can do without that pesky sponge 👊🏻👍🏻😉

Thank you for your very informative and clear tutorials. I am considering buying a 2011 R1200RT with all the ESA etc but I’m concerned that after I being stood in his garage for 5 years and not ridden there could be electronic problems.
I quite confident the mechanicals are ok as it’s been well looked after up to being parked up. I would value your professional opinion please.

Fantastische filmpjes man! Rustig, humor en voor de leek, een behoorlijk inzicht in hoe de techniek van de motor werkt. Ze maken ook duidelijk wat je zeker zelf kunt doen en wat toch maar niet. Mooie werkplaats heb je (beetje jaloers). Tof, ga zo door!. Mijn wederhelft en ik rijden beiden een R1250GS (‘21/‘23).
Dankjewel voor je vriendelijke comment, sommige vinden dat het allemaal maar erg langzaam gaat, maar dat is hoe ik ben. Ik probeer motorrijders te laten zien dat je met wat gereedschap veel onderhoud makkelijk zelf kunt doen, zonder arrogant of alwetend over te komen. Met mijn filmpjes pak ik je bij je hand en laat ik stap voor stap zien hoe het moet. Zoals je misschien wel opgemerkt hebt, heb ik dealer onderhoud niet erg hoog int vaandel staan. Ik heb in mn leven al heel vaak daar het resultaat van gezien. Als je het zelf doet weet je zeker dat het goed is, en met een hoge kwaliteit olie (bij bv motorolie verversen, versnellingsbak, cardan, remolie).
@@TheOldMechanic Nee hoor, zéker niet te langzaam. Het is een verademing naast alle snelle (en daardoor vaak niet duidelijke) video‘s. Je geeft daarmee de kijker bewust of onbewust de tijd om hetgeen je laat zien of vertelt ook op zich te laten inwerken. Keep going! :-)

Hi old mechanic, I love your videos and calm, humorous style. I have a BMW R1200 GS 2018. Only done 18 thousand miles. My clutch feels like it is slipping at higher speeds. Will changing the fluid help?

I have GSA 2010. Can I Abs modul bleed only via motoscan? Brake fluid I will fill only to front brake reservoir and rear reservoir.

When running the software to bleed abs, do you have to press both brakes? Or can you press only front brake?

Heb een vraag over het vervangen van de zeer slechte, roestgevoelige, bouten van de remklauwen door r.v.s. bouten.
Is het veilig, zonder lekkage van remvloeistof, als je dit een voor een doet?
Leer heel veel van je instructie filmpjes en heb daardoor het zelf onderhouden van mijn GS 2008 weer enthousiast opgepakt.

Hoi John, ikzelf heb al die roestige bouten uitgewisseld voor rvs exemplaren. Ik heb er geen problemen mee, en het ziet er een heel stuk beter uit. Bij de remklauwen heb ik ze wel 1 voor 1 uitgewisseld he. Dit soort dingen doe je altijd op eigen verantwoording. Als je al die bouten voor rvs torx wil uitwisselen moet je ff google op rvs paleis. Als ik me goed herinner. Daar kun je ze perstuk kopen 😉
Why do you have to wire up the computer? - Can you do the brake fluid without having the diagnostics do it's bit - I don;t have the interface of a laptop for that matter? Regs Mark
Hi Mark, these days I only use the Motoscan app on my (android) telephone. Its far more cheeper even for the full (Ultimate) version. When you own a BMW and you want to do your own maintenance you need the Motoscan app for, lets say, to reset the 'service' reminder on the dash. Bonjour Jerry, Non, sans l'ordinateur BMW (application motoscap), vous pouvez toujours changer le liquide de frein. MAIS lorsque vous utilisez cet «ordinateur BMW» à chaque changement de liquide de frein, vous activez la pompe ABS .. et cela peut empêcher la pompe ABS de rester bloquée au fil du temps, vous savez.

Hi Old Mechanic, I have a doubt: if I do the brake fluid change without GS911 or Motoscan (I still don't have) to run ABS pump, how is the fluid thats in ABS pump circuit.

What you can do is after the first round of bleeding take the bike for a spin on gravel and USE the ABS. Then go home and change again. :)
when you flush the fluid out does that also clean through/out of the ABS system too?

Is het mogelijk om de manipulatie met MotoScan uit te voeren? Ik heb alleen dat... Zo ja, heeft u de procedure? trouwens, ben je van plan een tweede video te maken voor de achterrem? Beste Old mechanic, in 2 dagen ongeveer alle video's gekeken waardoor ik nog meer zin heb in het onderhoud van de BMW, allereerst super leerzaam en vooral ook gevuld met vermakelijke grappen.
Ik zou nog willen vragen of ik nou goed begrijp dat je, na de verversen van de remvloeistof, na de abs test het nogmaals moet verversen.. wat is de reden daarvoor?
Verder: zou je voor het vervangen van het voorste rubber (boot) bij de cardanas het hele cardan'huis' loshalen of kan je dit ook laten zitten en de rubberen hoes vervangen nadat je de cardanas eruit hebt geschoven?

Hoi Brent fijn dat je iets opgestoken hebt van mijn video's. Als je de ABS pomp geactiveerd hebt, moet je hem inderdaad weer optluchten. Nu moet ik wel eerlijk zijn, ik heb nog nooit luchtbellen uit de abs pomp zien komen. Ik zie het meer als zorgen dat je abs pomp niet vast komt te zitten als je hem dan activeerd.
Over die voorste rubber van de cardan.. BMW zegt in de service manual dat je de cardan aan die zijde er zo los kunt wippen. Nou mij is dat niet gelukt, ik heb de achterbrug waar de cardanas doorheen gaat gedemonteerd. Toen de splines gesmeerd en die rubber boot vervangen. Let op dat die borgings clip in de midden blijft zitten, ander krijg je de cardan aan de versnellingsbak kant er niet op
Ik heb de spullen besteld en ga een voor een de klusjes maar eens klaren! Dank, ik hou je kanaal in de gaten voor nieuwe video’s!

Hello. I need help with my problem. I have Bmw r 1200 gs adventure k25 2010. During my ride on my dashboard pop up orange triangle and red ikon of brake. ABS doesn't work. When I use app Motoscan for scan I see this trouble code:
5D94 - Wheel speed sensor, front
5DF4 - Undervoltage
5DA2 - Wheel speed sensor, rear
5DA1 - Wheel speed sensor, rear
I thing that my ABS modul is KO. Where can be problem pls?
I would test or charge the battery first. Could be that your battery voltage is to low 😉

Do you need to cycle the abs even if you are just bleeding ?
Nope, but when you are a driver like me.. and seldom get the ABS shoot into action then its a good practice to cycle the abs atleast once a year.
I use this tool its far better (cheeper) then the GS911.
