As I said on the first video, Ashitaka is the pinnacle example of positive masculinity that should be exemplified to aspire to for young men but he’s also has lessons for all ages, genders and creeds to follow, ‘to see with eyes unclouded by hate’ is a lesson that all could hope to follow.

What a coincidence, I just watched this movie for the first time 3 days ago and it's already one of my favorites. My first Studio Ghibli movie actually, can't wait to watch their other movies.

As one of the founders and being at helm of Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki occupies a position analogous to that of Lady Eboshi. Furthermore, the realm of filmmaking and the broader film industry, much like the Iron Town, are intrinsically dependent on advanced technology (as well as on a "civilized" audience in a comfortably air-conditioned room). After going through the 133-minute long story, you should be able to see that the director is torn apart between Ashitaka and Lady Eboshi.

I love this movie. What we need is balance and not destroy nature but work together. I may have seen this movie too young but it shaped me ❤

As a huge fan of Studio Ghibli movie living in Japan, I am so happy that you guys like Mononoke.
I really enjoyed your video and it made me write comment for very first time on TH-cam.
If you guys are planing to react to other Studio Ghibli movies, I would like to recommend following two:
    1. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Story is set in a world after the final war has destroyed the land.
The main character named Nausicaa has the same spirit as Ashitaka, who respects nature and others.
This work has a lot in common with Mononoke, as it depicts human friendship, hatred, and the power of nature.
Also, music is also great and I am overwhelmed every time I watch this movie.
By the way, original is manga so movie is just about 20% of whole story so if you like movie after watching, I highly recommend manga too.
    2. Laputa Castle in the Sky
This is an adventure story based on Gulliver's Travels.
The Japanese voice actress for the main character Pazu is Mayumi Tanaka who plays Luffy in One Piece.
I love this Laputa as much as Nausicaa.
FYI:Although it's not a movie, there is a story called The Journey of Shuna which a main character looks like Ashitaka.
They seem to have English version. If you like Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, this is the one you'll love.
    Yakul will also appear there.

Okay this is a great comment. First thank you for making us your first channel to comment on! That makes us feel good and hey maybe we’ll end up talking more on more videos comment sections!
This movie is so good and we loved every second of it. Also your descriptions for the recommended videos are amazing and got me seriously wanting to watch both of those now. So expect those movies to be on the channel in the next couple of months!
Luffys voice actress is one of the best in the game I think so that’s exciting. I also want to see Yakul again… and the concept of man vs nature is one of my favorites so you’ve really got me pumped to see these. And finally of course the music is what really sells me on these movies it’s just so beautiful.
Can’t wait to watch and talk more soon! Welcome to the bros n shows family!

Ashitaka's name comes from "Are You Tomorrow?" Hahaha big kusa!! It's probably an urban legend that was created. ASHITAKA can write "明日か?-tomorrow?" in Japanese... It's a just pun or word-play.
The period of this film is set in the Muromachi period 1336-1573. There are several models of the Ashitaka tribe. Around the 8th or 9th century, the clan fought with the imperial court and fled to Tohoku, which was called Ezo at that time. It is also said to be modeled after hunter-gatherers who believed in ancient Shintoism, which would have existed in the Tohoku region. It can be thought of as a combination of different ideas from these eras. That is why they were sensitive to curses and their filth - Kegare and expelled him. It also has a slightly primitive appearance.
His full name is Ashitaka-Hiko. Hiko means man. They don't have surnames. In general, people in this era do not have surnames unless they are noble or samurai. Unlike Eboshi, San, Ashitaka, Jikobo, Koroku, etc., samurai daimyo were called "Asano" by their surname/clan.
In fact, the origin of Ashitaka's name is "Nagasune-Hiko", an actual mythical figure who is said to be a leader who was defeated by Emperor Jimmu. "Nagasune" means "long-legged", which can also be written as "AshiGaTakai - 足が高い". It's a just pun or word-play after all again. YEAH but that's japanese language how it works, I mean seriously.......
From 1192 to the Kamakura period, it was a period of great upheaval when the shogunate was established due to the transfer of political power from the aristocracy to the samurai. The ruling structure of society has changed. The era of Princess Mononoke after that. From 1336 in the Muromachi period, the shogunate system continued to favor the samurai. Farmers and merchants, who had been oppressed by the old powers, advanced socially. It was an era in which society itself was undergoing changes in terms of technology, production, and distribution. It was an era in which not only samurai and powerful people, but also many people's sense of value was changing.
Money economy and logistics. It was a time when "one big society" was formed in Japan. It can be said that people were swallowed up by it.
The film itself is visually packed with ideas from different eras.

One of the movies I have to watch at least once a year, it is a masterpiece ♥I hope you guys watch the Wind Rises (the movie that in 2014 was supposed to be Hayao Miyazaki's last, the man keeps coming out of retirement!), it's slow and beautiful, nothing mystical or magical but so utterly beautiful. I saw it at the Toronto Film Festival and it was the film that sold out the fastest, it was a miracle I got tickets. There is something so special about being in a room with other Miyazaki fans watching his final movie together for the first time (even if it's not his last), I hope you get to experience it too!

    • @brosnshows

Me too I literally watch this movie once a year too it’s just such a nostalgic feel good movie for me that never gets old. And okay noted! We’ve never seen Wind Rises before so that’ll be a fun watch. You speak very highly of it and seem like a super fan of Ghibli and Miyazaki so I am confident we will enjoy watching that as well. And hey man I hope that this channel can kind of simulate that experience for you in a way. There’s something special about sharing thoughts and opinions with people who are equally passionate about the things that you are. Glad to have you here in the bros n shows family and hope to chat more with you soon 🙏🏻

3:39 For me, regardless of whether he had arrived injured or not, the spirit of the forest would not have cured the curse, firstly because it was one of the elements that marked Ashitaka and forced him to move forward and seek balance without hatred and secondly due to the fact that as eboshi said, it is the blood of the spirit that can cure any disease, the legends always keep some truth, at the end when they return the head, being bathed in his blood is what cures him.
6:39 It was really the introduction of firearms to Japan by the Dutch that ended the Sengoku period. A brutal era of civil war that came to an end as the power and killing speed of these new weapons escalated, breaking the previous balance of power between samurai.

Comments like this is what I live for. Love being able to get deep introspective comments about the movies we love. And you’re so right about the curse and the cure. I agree I don’t think the spirit would’ve cured the curse if Ashitaka didn’t have the bullet wound. I think bathed in blood was the only way. There’s some deep symbolism in this movie start to finish. Thank you for the comment and hope to see you in more reactions in the future my friend
