As the Nintendo Switch gets older and we get ever closer to whatever it is Nintendo is releasing next, the important question arises of whether or not buying a new system at this point is a good idea. Will the next system be backwards compatible? How long till it launches? Are any games coming out that make it worth still grabbing asap? Let's go over the current state of buying the Switch in 2024

I just picked up my first Switch last week (OLED version) and no regrets. I play Mario Kart with my young kids during the day and BOTW while I chill on the couch at night. I love it and should have bought one years ago. Being a hand held and having Nintendo first party titles is a great combination. It has totally revitalized my interest in gaming as a somewhat retired mainly PC gamer.

I agree, it’s amazing that something like TOTK came to the switch so many years after the inception of the console, and they are still pumping out top tier titles years later like Mario Wonder & even Kirby’s Forgotten Land a couple years ago. If anything, the worst time to buy a switch was on launch lol

Hey man. Ive been wanting to play breath of the wild for such a long time, since 2018 when i first saw it. I also had a wii which me and my siblings would play maria kart on, and we had a blast, but that wii unfortunately got spoilt. I do appreciate good performance but as long as its not stuttering , i guess its fine to me. I just want the switch to have fun with my siblings and to play the zelda games and now is the chance i get to buy it (im not sure if ill get to buy it later for personal reasons). @@daveclement9932 Everyone is different, but I like to ask what we know NOW. The Switch 2 may be coming next year, it may be perfectly back compat, it may improve a lot of games. But we don't KNOW anything yet, and the Switch as it is can play thousands of games perfectly well. It also has a very mature peripheral market, so you can also buy all sorts of cool accessories to complement the experience. I'd also say if you want one, and now is the time where you can justify the purchase (and you can get some games, obviously), I doubt you'd regret it. And Mario Kart Deluxe is a phenomenal game to play with friends and family.

Guys, the Switch is ABSOLUTELY worth buying. It is stacked with AAA games, the largest Indie game scene and is portable. With so much garbage on PS5 and Xbox (I own both), I can't recommend the Switch enough. The best part is that you can just play games instantly; unlike waiting on the PS5/Xbox to download 100GB before you can play. Outside of Baldur's Gate, I use the Switch more than anything else. Now is a great time to get a switch if you don’t have one already. Most games are available physically somewhere online below MSRP, the first party catalogue is incredible and indie support is great. If you don’t have a switch already, you’re likely a gamer with other platforms interested in the first party games so it should suit you well. Plus even when the next system comes out, it’ll take a bit of time to build a library even a quarter as strong as the Switch’s current one

    • @awavebird
      @awavebird 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworth The Switch 2 will not be a completely new console, its going to run on a modified Tegra chipset similar to the one in the Switch 1 and there is literal proof of this within Linux updates that have been released and NVidia dev kits.
And there is history of the GBA & DS having backwards compatibility, as well as the DS & 3DS and Wii & Wii U. Nintendo's pattern is to release a new console, release a new version built on that first console, and then reinvents the wheel with the console after that one.

It’s the perfect time to get a Switch. It has amassed a huge library of games, where many third party games are likely to be on sale. You're omitting the likelihood of a big stock dump or price reduction of current Switch hardware. Even if you wanted to get a Switch now, the prices of hardware are in a highly inflated bubble that's ready to burst anytime. Second hand prices of eBay and Facebook marketplace is going to be drastically competitive and cheap over the next year or so I think, whilst current users scramble to get the newest Nintendo (particularly if it's backwards compatible with old Switch hardware).

New system is estimated holidays 2025, not Q1 2025. The only solid info we have on it is that Nintendo is going to announce the second console before April of 2025. So that immediately means it's probably not coming out in Q1 2025. So if you buy an OLED switch even today you're getting a year to a year and a half out of it before the next console is even talked about. The original switch was announced 2 years prior. So it's very possible the new switch won't even be coming for 2 years from now. The honest reality is we don't know. Early 2025 makes sense for an announcement but not a release since we have heard literally nothing about the successor at all from Nintendo. They don't really announce a console and release it in 3 months. They far more announce it and then release it a year or more later. You can also pick one up refurbished from amazon or second hand if you want and pay under $300 for it.

I have had the switch for about 3 years now and I will say that the switch is definitely the best console ever. I love this console and I play most of the exclusives because they are that good. I do however also play games that were originally on the Nintendo system years ago but now they are on multi platforms such as mega man and final fantasy but the switch is just amazing and you can play pretty much all the games that are out there that is triple a games such as Skyrim, doom, Fortnite, capcom games, mortal kombat etc. obviously you can’t play games like call of duty but the switch has so many games that it is just insane the catalog of games it’s just breathtaking. As someone who has played the GameCube as a child and the Nintendo DS the switch is the go to console I recommend the switch especially the fact you can play on the tv and handheld is super awesome.

My first Switch was V2 in 2018. Took me 5 months to save up for it. I didn't even know there was a V2 at the time. Then Switch Lite came out a year later. Ended up giving the V2 to my brother's family, got a Switch Lite. Got a V2 again, gave the Lite away. Got an OLED and gave the new V2 to another family member who compensated me for it. So in conclusion, I would say for those who don't have one and are thinking of getting one: do some research! Look up some videos of like 50 or 100 best games on Switch. Determine what kind of console you want. Lite, V2, or OLED, there's options based on your needs/wants. I will admit OLED is very nice, but if I had to go back to V2, I wouldn't be less happy. If people can figure out how to dock a Lite, that would probably be the coolest...aside from getting an extra controller. I played Ring Fit Adventure on a Lite surprisingly. Probably would have been easier if I had some kind of head gear to hold the Lite in my face since I couldn't play it on TV, but it is compatible.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that like just about any game console that stops getting supported, there should be no problem running your current library of game cards on your Switch... Even long after support ends. And even then, it should still be quite a while yet... even after Switch 2 releases.
Lots of people still buy, sell a/ trade PS2, PS3 all the time and no one has any issues playing them. At least as long as the hardware is solid.

However, if you're a gamer, now is as good a time as any to get a Switch, especially if you want to play the console's exclusives. However, I would say now that we are very likely inside of 1 year away from the followup, I would say wait because if the Switch 2 is backwards compatible, it becomes worth it to wait. If you don’t care about playing the newest games and you want a solid system, take the Switch 1, its still a banger.

But as a general consumer that isn’t interested in that sort of thing I’d say wait. We are just a little too close to the end of the life cycle in all honesty. But at the end of the day if you really want it grab it. Best to be happy over everything else here.

I'm someone who has a Xbox Series X, PS5, and gaming PC... and never thought about getting a Switch until recently, and just bought a Switch a couple weeks ago. Glad I did. I love the concept of it being a portable and home console. Love the concept of the Joy-Cons -- the motion controls, them being detachable or united as one controller, or attached to the screen itself... or be used as two individual controllers for multiplayer. I will say they could be bigger. And I have average sized hands for a man, not big hands at all. But got a Pro controller anyways.
I mainly got it for the Switch exclusives. Zelda, Mario, etc. I can't see getting third party games that are available on other platforms. Let's be honest; those games on Switch are going to look the worst and have the lowest FPS compared to the other gaming systems.
Started out getting physical copies but then switched and felt it's more convenient putting them all on a microSD.
Hopefully "Switch 2" can improve its hardware, particularly its graphics and framerate.

So this guy thinks is not a good choice for a buyer to get the Switch now because as he says in a year he will have to give more cash for a better one by getting confused with himself that has to get the latest console.
And he is saying this stuff to a person that waited until now to think whether to buy a Switch or not.
    Is he serious?
What chance is there for such a person to run to buy the new Switch 2 next year on launch? Obviously this is not a very impatient person since they didn't jump on the Switch until now.
So no they don't HAVE to spend more next year they can spend on a Switch 2 four-five years down the line when the Switch 2 will have a better library and probably a new OLED panel while they keep themselves busy playing the current library that is full of games to keep them busy.
His comparing two different people here as one. The ones that are eager to jump on new hardware and the type that waited near the end of a console life circle to think of getting one. That is not the same person.

After they released that Lite version, I thought maybe they would release a home-only version.... but that never happened.
