Nobsound drive on 12V or 24V power suply (what is best?)

  • Here is the video about input voltage.. well it looks that it works a bit better on 24V, it probably has a bit stronger output signal. The sound feels reacher.. other way there is no big difference in performance. It sounds just great on both ways!

    I have a NS20G model that came with a 19V 3,2A power suply, I tried a 24V 3A and the bass got better BUT medium and high frequencies got worse, so I bilieve that 19V is the ideal. I road about some Nosbsound specs and the say the better performance is under 20V.

  • @ericvillano5729

    Mine came with a 19V DC/ 4.74A power supply adapter. But I bought the Nobsound NS-20G, which is bigger than the NS-01G you have in the video. I think the 24V might work well with mine, but might risk damage to the smaller Nobsound, which typically comes with a 12V, but offers the 19V as an upgrade. Especially if you use 4 ohm speakers or less.

    • @als-techreview
      @als-techreview  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      .. you can easy drive them up to 24V. They probably recomend the 19V adapter becouse of the risk of damage.. people drive them to the max volume than you must be aware that this amps only cooling is housing itself.. so I think that they had that in mind.. :)

      @@als-techreview agreed, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea for someone who might be overly enthusiastic at the volume control. When I spoke to people at Douk Audio Nobsound, they indicated the smaller NS-01G typically is sold alone, or with a 12V power supply adapter, but could safely be used with a 19V 4.74A adapter. But they do not recommend the use of a 24V one. But the larger NS-20G typically is matched with the 19V, and can safely be used with the 24V. In your case, I know you are being careful not to turn the volume up to clipping, so in that case, the 24V will work fine, and obviously will perform better than the 12V one it normally comes with. But I think it is important for those viewing to bear this in mind, that overpowering these, using a higher powered adapter than recommended can pose risks if one is not careful to drive the unit beyond it's limitations. These class D amplifiers tend to run warm, and can heat up quickly, overheating easily, due to the small compartment enclosure, and do not dissipate heat well, with relatively small heat sinks no internal cooling fans. Personally I love these little mighty mouse units. But in my opinion, if someone wants more power, and better sound, and wants to use the 24V adapter, it makes more logical sense to upgrade to the larger Nobsound NS-20G for the few dollars difference, rather than risk damage to the smaller NS-01G. The 19V adapter does significantly improve the NS-01G, but if that is not enough for someone, perhaps the best idea would be to buy the NS-20G instead, and then the bigger 24V adapter.

    I have the Nobsound NS -01G Pro and I've been using a 15V 6A switching DC supply on it for 2 yrs and it puts out a respectable 18+w per channel with no distortion that I can hear using Jamo S803 bookshelf speakers.

    Interesting test. 24v does appear to sound RICHER, cleaner. ( Such as the difference of 360p 480p 720p )

    The 24 Volt is better, more dynamics, more bass, it is worth making a better filtered 1000uF analog power supply with 24Volt because the switching power supply does not provide enough current.

    • @dumle29
      @dumle29 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What you said is wrong, and also doesn't make sense. There's no digital/analog power supplies, but I get what you mean. Linear PSU vs switched PSU.
      A switching PSU (SMPS) will have much higher power output, at the same size, than any linear power supply. This is because SMPS utilize the fact that switching at high frequencies allows you to significantly scale down the size of your inductors, and hence the size of your transformers. The benefits come at the cost of noise. Because a switching transformer works by first turning the mains AC voltage into DC, and then pulsing the transformer with a square-wave, you get a lot more noise at the output of your transformer. SMPS then deal with this with a low-pass filtering network on the output, but you can only do so much, while maintaining a reasonable price.
      Also, throwing 1000uF on a PSU will help with bass response, but not necessarily anything else. You need smaller, much faster acting capacitors to deal with the switching noise.
      To sum it up: Proper Linear PSUs give nice clean DC outputs, at horrible power efficiencies. Because of this, they have to be huge, and them being huge means they cost much more for the same power output.
      SMPS on the other hand, offer really compact high power options, usually at good price-points too. They however have more noise on the output.
      In my personal opinion, this noise is negligible in this use case, and is not something you'll hear, as long as you ensure the PSU is grounded on the mains connection, if it as a ground pin.
      If you are buying this amp, you probably don't have money to burn on a huge linear PSU, so buying a good SMPS, like a Mean Well, Delta, TDK-Lambda, CUI, or Artesyn probably makes more sense financially.
      I myself use the Delta ADP-40KD BB PSU for about 16 eur, which is a 19v 40W psu, giving me 20W per channel, which is plenty for me. Another option if you want to use 24v, for something like 8ohm speakers, there's also something like the CUI SDI50-24-U-P5, for ~19 eur, which is a 50W PSU. Those are just two picks from here: www.mouser.dk/Power/Power-Supplies/Plug-In-AC-Adapters/Desktop-AC-Adapters/_/N-brw25Z1yzvvqx?P=1yx5k7vZ1yx2wd9Z1ysr4miZ1yva230Z1z0zl46Z1z0zl9bZ1yzok0yZ1yxt74dZ1yxt73cZ1yxt7ea&Rl=brw25ZerbiZ1z0wdimZ1z0wdifSGT&Ns=Pricing%7c0 which is a parametric search of any PSU with 19-24V output, and 20-150W output power. Pay attention that not all PSUs use the correct plug for this amp, but in my case that doesn't matter. I can put a new connector on if I need to.

    Hallo.. Ich mal eine Frage an dich...
    Ich habe ein nobsound g2 100w was ein nazteil hat von 19v 4.74a
    Ich möchte eine 12v 20ah gel akku über ein 19v 8a Wechselrichter betreiben für draußen für eine kleine Bestellung anlege..
    Würde das nobsound g2 100w die 19v 8a von Wechselrichter aushalten oder würde es da kaputt gehen.. Das wehre echt super wenn du mir helfen könntest..

      After some testings, even for a full 50W you need 24V, it doesnt draw that much current acording to another YT video, i have a 19V 4.74A (so 90w) using 2 bass shakers 50+40W and i get cuts at 90-100% gain even with just the 50W shaker, plugin in the other one and its a mess, cuts all the time. I have a 24V 2.5A PS somewhere, ill give it a test. Still the info they give is poor, no matter where you buy them, i bought the wrong PS but it wasnt my fault.

      Yeah that will work fine, just try to stay below 24v cause the amp wil run way to hot on high volume with 24v/ its good enough already with a 12v power supply
      i also tested it with 16v and 19v and it does sound better on 19v but it gets alot hotter so just try to stay at 20v or lower if you gonna use it at higher volumes

    I have several 18v batteries that I plan to use for one of these amps. Will 18v still produce a better output than 12v? Would it be worth adding a simple step up voltage converter or is it not worth the losses since I'm using batteries?
