    Angry whenever I see or hear Bob Kane getting sole credit for creating Batman. So glad Bill Finger is finally getting recognition for his significant contribution. Shame on DC allowing this charade to go on so long.

      That's why Bob Daly, Terry Semel, Alan Horn, and Barry Meyer wanted Bob Kane to have a sole credit on all seven films.

      Indeed. Bob Kane was a con artist and a life-long bullshitter. He never mentions the fact that his original idea for the character bore no relation to the way Batman had taken off and developed due to the significant contributions made by other far more imaginative artists than he ever was.

      But he wasn't a comics fan. He was a fan of the television series because I read his interview. Jon Peters, Joel Schumacher, Christopher Nolan, Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, and Tommy Lee Jones are the real Batman fans. Burton, Akiva Goldsman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jim Carrey, Val Kilmer, Chris O'Donnell, and Alicia Silverstone watched the television series when they're kids. Michael Keaton, George Clooney, and Arnold Schwarzenegger were action fans.

      Who's ill-informed? Bill Finger IS Batman's co-creator, and Kane cheated him out of creator credits and royalties. And it's well-documented that Finger's responsible for much of what we know of Batman, right down to the classic costume and the Bruce Wayne ID. It took until last year for Finger to finally get his due for creating Batman, and DC honestly doubted the Kane estate would ever allow for it.
      It's not out of bounds for anyone to point out that Kane's solo credit on the pre-2016 Batman stuff is a half-truth, or that Kane wronged Finger. Even Kane's contemporaries routinely ripped him a new one for what he did.

    Wait, this come out before the movie? It spoils a lot of the movie. Like saying what’s gonna go on in certain scenes and showing the batmobile even though they made it sound like they wanted to keep the batmobile a secret until we see it in the movie. But I guess they did show it during the trailer.
    I saw this movie in our local theater (which isn’t a big name theater and it’s still standing and in business today which is pretty amazing for our little town to be open and running since years before I was born...then again, it is a national landmark and has been through a lot of repairs and replacement of certain things). I was 7 at the time. This movie scared the piss out of me but I stayed til the end. I loved the toys, mainly the action figures that they released with this movie. It’s one of my favorite movies today and if our local theater brought it back, I’d go see it in a heartbeat. I was obviously a little older when I went to see the sequel so I didn’t get scared and I knew about what to expect. I think I was the one out of my family that really wanted to go see it.

      It's a bummer that people overlook Neal Adams, Gene Colan, Tom Mandrake, Don Newton, etc and act like Dark Batman just suddenly happened with Dark Knight Returns as if the character hadn't been moving in that direction for the previous 15 years or so

    No mention of Bill Finger? I heard Burton actually hated Batman!

    • @reidmason2551
      @reidmason2551 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Burton did hate the finished film, because he was held in check by both DC and Guber-Peters and didn't have full creative control. (Frequent Batman writer Steve Englehart was one of the uncredited script doctors, hence Basinger's Vicki Vale being a fusion of both Vicki and Silver St. Cloud from the comics.) One of the sticking points for BATMAN RETURNS was that Burton would have total control...which, as we all know, backfired. But at the time, nobody knew that was coming.
      As for Bill Finger, Kane tried to bury any mention of him as much as possible. Aside from paying lip service to him in occasional interviews, Kane had no desire to acknowledge him as Batman's co-creator or to have the creator credits corrected. What's really sad is that if Kane had owned up before his own death to Batman being a two-man gig and allowed Finger to be co-credited -- even after Finger was already gone -- he would have been able to salvage his legacy. As it stands now, all Kane's remembered for is being a greedy backstabber who took advantage of his more talented partner. He destroyed his own standing in the Batman mythos by not doing the one thing that would have saved him.

      @@reidmason2551 He actually looks back with fondness now, but he clashed a lot with producers Jon Peters and Peter Guber, and had them removed from the second movie. You can tell how his vision was somewhat restrained. He didn't like having to cram in pop songs by Prince, either.

      @@reidmason2551 that's when Warner Bros tried to get Tim Burton to do the third film and they said to him "Tim, don't you want to do something more family-friendly and more kid-friendly", and he said "You don't want to make me do another one, would you", and they let him stay on as producer. And he hired his friend Joel Schumacher to carry on with the franchise in 1993, and Warner Bros hired Christopher Nolan to do the same in 2003.

    While I'm not taking anything away from what Tim Burton did in the first two Batman movies, I think that Tim Burton would have served better as an executive producer instead of as the director. Which begs the question as to who else would have directed the Batman films throughout the 90s???

But I wouldn't have seen Steven Spielberg or Joe Dante as directors for a Batman film franchise from the 90s, nor would I have seen Harrison Ford or Bill Murray portraying The Dark Knight.
