Thank you all so much for taking time of YOUR day to watch this -- if you have watched other episodes - I'd love to know what you thought of the edit changes with this episode -- Just reply and lemme know or comment
This is utterly inspiring, you might have a week or two where things have gone downhill, but the point is to stay in the game and push through because you'll know that amazing week will happen again. Btw that chord progression for Jaded hits home! The less produced more acoustic version sounds killer already, reminds me of watching Forest's vid on 'Stick Season' by Noah Kahan, I totally agree with Forest that a song underproduced sounding amazing is the key to absolutely killer songwriting. Edit 2 : I really appreciate the extra effort into the editing of this vid! It really shows the passion and it's contagious through the screen
I love this new style. I know you're kind of in an experimental moment right now, and I think this style really works. I dont feel like it makes you any less you and as a film lover, i really love learning what you have to teach through your creativity, both musically and cinematically. Also, this week looked like it was SO MUCH FUN, and im happy for you.
This is exactly how this series should go. If anything, it demonstrates that changing course is part of the natural cycle of composition/arrangement/production. If we’re not feeling it in one place, go to another and so forth. Yep, I love this format of presentation, Nathan. Keep it natural, keep it real. I’m really digging it!
Love coming home from work to these vids every Monday! So glad you're doing better. As I was watching I did think that a lot of the extra editing was unnecessary, the multiple camera angles seem like hell to set up and have the added effect of the audience no longer feeling like a fly on the wall. Having said that, maybe it's nice to see how the editing reflects your mood per week: the creative weeks full of energy while the slower weeks have a relaxed edit. I think the most important choice you can make is what do YOU want, because ultimately your enjoyment of the thing you're doing is going to shine through in whatever you make. See you next week!
Good thoughts (also... sorry we haven't connected - as you can imagine things are a bit crazy lol). It's funny - as I am working a bit today on stuff this weeek - I think that as with many things... moderation is good. I think a combination of that raw and performance style is good - I am already leaning a bit "away" from this super produced feel this week and almost seeing where each week takes it
Its so refreshing seeing you or anyone in general getting inspired and have it all come together. I fee like im getting closet to putting it all together after sketching ideas but not finishing it, i feel excited again and itll come together. Love your series man, keep up the great work! :)
I like the new format. I feel like I’m watching a movie. I think at the opening of each episode, you could work in the coffee being made. Maybe a faded overlay of your writing desk, etc.
I am just sucked into your life with these videos. You have helped me see more of what the writing process looks like and all the possibilities. I liked this video a lot, raw creativity. Thank you for all this Nathan.
I’m late finishing your video this week but still wanted to comment. I’ve enjoyed each of your videos what stands out to me is raw experience of seeing your creativity. While it doesn’t make good for film it just feels more real. And I feel like I’m sitting next to you watching how professional makes beautiful sounding music. The ending was amazing with new song idea. So looking forward to hearing it one day. Thanks for another awesome week.
I find this series very inspirational!..Kept watching for week 4, and figured someone in the house was struggling, So glad it was only colds and nothing else. Gonna have some coffee and head to my studio, thanks for the push!..Well done!
20:21 That's siiiiiiiiiiiick 🤣 Awesome job Nathan!!! This is so incredibly amazing, not only the world-class quality of your music but also the filming as well 👏 Also, loved the surprise original song at the end!! Bravo✨
This man has no idea how much he is inspiring me right now with this album. As a christian wanting to learn arranging music to His Glory, its really hitting me right in the feels man. Not giving up!
Dude this was so good and inspirational! Thank you for being real and showing the ups and downs of life as someone trying to create. So excited to hear the produced version of “Jaded”
Absolutely love your videos each week! The editing style is really unique. Nice work! I'm really big into the cinematic sound you have as I make cinematic edm music myself. I got goosebumps with your start of your song at the end of the video and would love to remix it when you get the kinks ironed out. Those lyrics are stellar!
Super ambitious I love it! I'm trying to just release a song idea on social media in some decent form with lyrics every week, and just that is intimidating lol. I also have a full time day job and baby on the way so I've gotta find that balance.
I kind of felt the same about January. Kind of blegghh creatively and work wise for me, but hey, 11 months left in the year so no sweat. Looking back there are some good things that got accomplished so sometimes you just gotta focus on the little achievements to push you towards the bigger ones. Thanks Nate, looking forward to your hymns album!
I don't know film production terms but thought it was so cool how you had those transparent DAW overlays with your other video. So interesting to watch your process
This. The effect is visually striking but it retains the information from your DAW... while keeping us engaged with your expressions+reactions so you keep up the storytelling momentum. It's the best editing change in this episode by far!
Super sick as usual bro! The new focus on the filmmaking aspect was a great addition and that new song you wrote is great so far! Love when inspiration hits like that. Oh and please Nathan, wipe down your cymbals dude! 🤣
It's been great watching the first 5 weeks of videos and you've taught me a few things too, Thanks! How do you get to be so fast at comping and tuning vocals? It seems to take me a lot longer...I'm going to dig out some of your older videos on this
The new format is very polished and nice. But this does not mean that the previous ones are not good. Perhaps mixing them up from time to time? A year is quite long. Packaging them in variety of ways makes every week fresh.
Hey Nathan, good to have you back and great to see the creative process unfolding. I liked the editing style... Dude, did you actually use a smoke machine in some sequences? Lol! Looked great, but seems a lot of work. The songwriting session was really nice to watch, it gave me a songwriting idea too. A title at least: Hits Home. I'll be here for the next episode. Thanks man! Oh, one question: How do you keep track of all your songwriting ideas and snippets on your phone? Would be great to see your "system" in a future video.

@NathanJamesLarsen Thanks for replying. Sorry if my question came off the wrong way. You seem like you're in good shape and look like you work out. But seeing these longer day in the life videos of what a real professional prouder does is truly inspiring as an aspiring musician. @@NathanJamesLarsen That's a great film and soundtrack! Have you seen/heard "Road to Perdition" (Thomas Newman) or
"Water for Elephants" (James Newton Howard), the soundtracks in both of them are incredible and I highly recommend them if you haven't seen/heard them. The song you were producing in this video reminds me of their music.
I went to music school for classical music performance and spent over 15 years living/performing in the classical music lifestyle but I sadly burnt out of it 1 year into grad school, and several years later in 2023 I discovered how happy music production makes me. I want to do it the rest of my life.
Your music is inspiring, and I am glad that you are sharing your work and processes ❤
11:26 looks like Nathan made it in the Matrix with the color grading of this scene lol
