    The version of Bane in this movie, aside from the fact that he brakes Batman's back and his name is Bane, has almost next to nothing in common with actual Bane and is basically an entirely different character. If anything the movie version has more in common with Ra's al Ghul's servant Ubu. Bane in the comics is famously Hispanic and the reason he hates Batman is because when he was growing up in the Caribbean prison Peña Duro, he was haunted by constant nightmares of a dark demon bat creature and he believes Batman to be the manifestation of those nightmares and that killing him will rid him of his demons.

    Batman Begins- Batman Year One and Batman the Tales of the Demon.
    The Dark Knight- Batman the Long Halloween and Batman the Man Who Laughs
    The Dark Knight Rises- Batman Knightfall, Batman No Man's Land, Batman The Dark Knight Returns, and A Tale of Two Cities (that last one isn't a Batman story but this movie has the same plot as that book).

    I LOVE this movie. Personally, it's my favorite installment of the trilogy, primarily for Bruce's journey. Because this isn't Batman's rise, it's Bruce's. Ever since his parents died, Bruce hasn't been alive either. When he started his mission, it was always meant to be temporary. But he hinged his entire life after the mission on being with Rachel, even though she told him not to.
    But the idea that he quit being Batman because she died is completely missing the point. He quit being Batman because he and Gordon won the war on Organized Crime. He quit being Bruce Wayne because Rachel died. But this movie is Bruce learning that he has something to live for beyond Batman. He leavehis city better than he found it when he started his mission, but in still-capable hands to protect it. But he can live his life as Bruce in peace with Selina, having used the Clean-Slate to give them both a new start.

      Really? I think most Batman fans would've been disappointed. I for one loved the twist/not really a twist. I mean, there was a storyline in the comic books where even Bane thought Ra's might be his father - this was back when Nightwing had long hair, so 1980s early 1990s, But we all know Talia. I would have preferred her to have gotten pregnant though, and the story to have lasted long enough for the child to be born. Or instead of Talia it had been Nyssa.

      Sometimes you can forget where you came from.
      Bane had said "Peace has cost you your strength. Victory has defeated you."
      Bruce definitely got way too comfortable/complacent between Dark Knight and this movie. He forgot what it felt like to struggle, to have nothing.. his drive to fight was gone.
      I'd like to think that's what they were trying to portray to us in this movie. Maybe it wasnt in the most perfect way but it was passable.

    • @EldenJohnathan
      @EldenJohnathan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand from Bane's point of view, as he words it as the loss of self, but it seems that the movie was trying to portray as if Bruce had never had to trully suffer which I find to just be plain wrong
      Just because he's aclimatised to a life where people provide for him doesn't take away from the presence of that struggle, has he forgoten what it's like? Yes, but does that detract from the fact he lived for years in harsher conditions than Gotham? No, it does not
      Bruce's life was a complete hellhole until his happy ending, after the death of his parents and before killing batman there hasn't been a moment where Bruce hasn't suffered in one way or the other, he does not fear death because he has nothing to live for except a city that never trully appreciates his effort
      Whilst others serve him, almost his full life was in servitude to people who want to tell him he hasn't suffered

His cold, calculated, and evil plan that includes gaslighting an entire major city/economic hub by intentionally feeding them false hope while actually counting down to the repeating worst two days Japan's history... but in Gotham. I do enjoy bits of this movie, but it is the weakest of the three. It has a lot of problems. The Robin is all wrong, Bane is all wrong, and Talia is all wrong. Talia knows Bruce is Batman, she calls him beloved, and doesn't want to kill him, she loves him, she's also supposed to be attractive, this actress is not. Also, she is supposed to be a master assassin and great at hand to hand combat, yet she didn't fight at all lol.

  • @The_Phantasm
    @The_Phantasm 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I know in the past I've been critical of these movies, but overall I've still found for the most part a lot of enjoyment in them. However unfortunately I can't say that for this movie. When it originally came out it was extremely divisive and personally when I first watched it I didn't particularly care for it and years later, it still just doesn't appeal to me. Honestly this was probably Christopher Nolan's sloppiest film. I think a big part of the problem is built into Christopher Nolan's understanding of this version of Batman is that he doesn't want to be Batman, he wants to end. I mean it's built into the premise The Dark Knight even and so this leads you a lot of problems because the concept of a Batman who doesn't want to be Batman is extremely antithetical to the source this has never been a recurring thing in the comics that Batman doesn't want to be Batman, that he's looking for reasons to retire. This unfortunately solidifies this version of Batman as just a Nolan character and not really an adaptation of the comic book character of Batman. The film, despite wanting to take a more "realistc" approach with Batman than traditionally depicted, suffers from too many leaps in logic such as Bruce Wayne miraculously arriving back in Gotham after escaping his underground prison, GCPD officer John Blake (who shouldn't have been Robin) happening to know that Wayne is Batman, and Bane’s lair being beneath Wayne Tower’s armory without Wayne or Lucius Fox knowing to name a few.
    One of the most multifaceted and glaring problems come with Tom Hardy’s Bane, who, admittedly is literally nothing like his comic book counterpart whatsoever and is also extremely disappointing as a character. Everything from his voice has always been the subject of heavy criticism for being too hard to take seriously and a mefiocre design, his changed nationality (Bane is Hispanic in the comics), his motivation, his background and his origin is entirely different to the point where it might as well be a different character. The film is also undermined by Bane’s less than underwhelming downfall in two major ways. The twist that Miranda Tate is actually Talia al Ghul instantly negates Bane’s impact because all the credit for the masterplan is taken away from Bane, making him little more than a thug who has been acting, not out of greed or revolutionary zeal, but because he was told by his leader. Essentially, he’s reduced to a bodyguard/subordinate for the sake of having one of the most obvious and underwhelming plot twists in superhero cinematic history. As is, it falls flat, and so does Bane’s arc upon completion, especially since he’s easily killed off by Catwoman a minute later.
    I really wasn't a huge fan of this interpretation of Talia. Talia (when writen properly) is not a straight-up villain and she is more morally ambiguous and genuinely loves Batman however she is very loyal to her father and his mission despite not agreeing with his dystopic methods. I always prefer Talia to be more morally ambiguous than just a straight-up villain. On that note, Tate’s deceitful role as Batman’s new love interest doesn’t work, either. Not only is there little if any chemistry in the film between Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard, but their love scene seems downright illogical and artificial because Wayne just spent eight years as a hermit due to losing Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. Yes, Alfred encouraged him to move on, and it’s certainly possible that he’d recover from such grief. The ending is a tad contrived as well, at least in execution. A lot of people felt that things wrap up too neatly by having Blake discover the Batcave. At the same time, however, the reveal that Blake’s first name is Robin feels tacked on for fan service. It can’t help but make your eyes roll, as does the closing scene in which Alfred sees Wayne and Kyle at the French café. As for Anne Hathaway as Catwoman it honestly just feels like another actress playing Catwoman. I never buy it when she plays the more villainous side of the character and it doesn't seem like it's intentional either. It's honestly just kind of bland.

      First paragraph: I personally dont' agree with "Batman doesn't want to be Batman, that he's looking for reasons to retire" being a bad thing, in fact, Bruce growing disdain to his night job as the time progresses and at the end he retires, is my favouirite ending for Bruce personally. I think it depends if you are big fan of DCAU's depiction (and from your avatar and name I guess that yopu probably are) of Batman as the true person and Bruce is a mask, or, like I think, there is the third person inside Bruce's mind - Bruce(personal) - that at the begining is very much the Batman persona, but with time it gets more and more distance between the two.
      rest: I agree with the most things. Plot regarding villains plans is just stupid. Most side characters feel bland and Talia is just unnececery addition ( we didn't have a good version of Talia, even in comics since 2004, and a great one, maybe even since "son of the Demon"). While I agree Bane's voice is goofy, but I kinda fall in love with it with time, unlike Bale's Batman voice in the last two movies ( Begins voice is ok). Even though he was "Nolanised" I find Bane threating enough tbh (if his plan was logical of course). But I find ending as a suitable conclusion to the series.

      I'll add on to this: they took a dump on Alfred's character in Rises.
      Alfred, the steadfast and loyal butler, essentially Bruce's second father, who supported him through this entire ordeal...abadons Bruce to "make him see reason?" And then stays gone for over half the movie? Either Nolan just had nothing for the character or needed a contrivance to get him away from Bruce...no matter the reason, absolutely not. You can say "oh different interpretations of Bruce and Batman" and I still call BS on that because let's be real, going the lengths on a self-imposed mission of self-perfection and exploiting psychology for the sake of vigilante justice to fight against corruption and injustice and the protection of other small children from experiencing loss like he did...that takes a special kind of drive and will that doesn't see a guy try to look for the exit route less than a year into it. And Alfred was ride or die from go and basically a father all the way through; he would never, ever actually leave Bruce. Much less then have the audacity to only show up at the funeral talking about how he "failed" as if he wasn't dicking around off-screen of his own accord for 70% of the runtime.

      Actually, Joan Stewart who played one of Bane’s main guys, “Barsad” is theorized to be Deadshot. Deathstroke is not in the movie. Additionally, a more direct reference that can be less arguably accepted is John Dagget, who is more or less a version of Roland Dagget in Nolan’s batverse. The Dark Knight also displayed these examples loosely with Coleman Reese as the Riddler and Tommy Lister Jr aka/black prisoner as Black Mask, based on his neck tattoo.
