Not complaining, but as somebody who was doing this stuff 20 years ago I find it hilarious that “this tiny computer that costs $600 takes 5 minutes to render out a 10 minute 4k video and 3 minutes to run this 3d render” is a complaint.
I don't get it. You must have known what your line of work is like and what kind of Mac you need to get it done in the best possible way, so why buy the base model?

This is the reason I bought the Mac Mini M4 Pro with 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 64GB unified memory, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI port, two USB‑C ports, headphone jack staying with the 512GB SSD storage trading in a Mac mini M2 Pro with 12-core CPU, 19-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 64GB unified memory, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, four Thunderbolt/USB-C ports, HDMI port, headphone jack staying with the default 512GB SSD storage that I currently have and use. I custom ordered this configuration to future proof myself and have yet to try it since I have not yet received the computer which I should receive sometime in early December. Since I am not a graphic designer, photographer, 3-D artist, video editor, I will test the M4 Pro using Adobe Acrobat Professional where I create fillable forms and scan all of my paper documents into digital documents, Oracle VirtualBox for running MS Windows, dabble with photos that I have in Affinity Photo and also stream TV shows and movies
Surprised there aren't more of these "buyers regret" videos out by now. Happens with every decent model release, and creates another video in itself explaining why 😂
I got the base model for simple programming, VS code, node js and stuff like that. I don’t do any 4k video editing or design. It’s coming in the mail today. I’m excited. Upgraded from a 2017 MacBook Pro.
I'm using a studio display and 2 1440p on either side. My base m4 idles at 10-13gb "window server" us uses a ton of resource. M4 pro handles the displays better, from sleep to monitors on is quicker, clicking in tabs with videos running resumes the render quicker, it just feels a bit more capable. At the same time, the base m4 actually has a higher clock speed, so single core stuff is genuinely faster on the base m4, the minute you need more cores in the fight, it's no close. When creators say, "it's great as an everyday machine" they are referring to the same usecase as an iPad, the m4 iPad Pro has the exact same spec as the base m4 Mac mini. Ultimately, do you want an iPad level of compute, or more. Coming from m4 iPad Pro, it felt weird to have the same compute in a desktop. I'm leaning towards the pro for that reason.

Reviewing the Mac Mini M4 Pro as the Mac Mini of choice is a no brainer. Future proof yourself. Since Apple doesn't really have interchangeable parts, it just makes sense. Adding $200 extra for 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, $600 extra for 64GB unified memory, $100 extra for 10 Gigabit Ethernet may be high in cost but in the long run be $$$ well spent. I pretty much did myself good future proofing purchasing a Wi-Fi 6 router when 802.11 ac/Wi-Fi 5 was still around, purchasing CAT 7 now CAT 8 cables over CAT 5/5E/6/6A cables, purchasing a 1Gbps cable modem so that I don't have to pay ISP Cable Modem rental fees. Therefore future proofing is what this about and buying a computer that meets your work flow, to also review, is important.
I ordered the Pro with 48Gb, 1 Tb and the unbinned chip. I think I am future proofed, coming from a base model M1 Mini. Great review and good on you for explaining "memory bandwidth". It is not mentioned enough. 👍

Question for you. I have an M2 MacBook Air (512/16 specs). Do you think it would be a worthy upgrade to the m4 base model? I do light video editing and that is handled from an external drive so I haven’t really touched the internal storage much at all. Oh and….🐬
I have been upgrading from Mac Pro 3.1 2008 Frankentosh 2.8 x8 core duo with PCI M2 SSDs and Nvidia 1050Ti that worked just fine until the power supply unit died. I first picked M4 mini but then realized that 256 to 512 Gb SSD upgrade looked like a steal (by Apple), same as the RAM upgrade. So I took the M4 pro base. I hope that it will do it's purpose for the next decade or two.
As any of tech on the market now days it really depends on your use cases. Most people will be happy with based model Mac mini M4 for daily light task. But for future proofing I opt in for Mac Mini M4 Pro based with 48gb unified memory & 512gb of storage for mainly 4K video editing and adobe photo editing. Not to brag even though I own maxed out MBP 16inch M3 Max if needed power. Definitely happy with my choice and can’t to use once it arrive few weeks. Superb review and recommendation. Keep it up! 👍🏽
I had come to the same decision based on bench scores and the simple fact that the Mini hasn’t enough full-speed cores nor GPU cores. The sad thing is that the attraction is lost when you have to spend Apple’s prices for memory and SSD storage for a Mini Pro. ☹️
in first days, youtubers saying "so then guys" this is great. you should buy it. now they realised they only have 40 GB after two weeks they are complaining about it 😂 so funny😂😂😂
Hi Bro, thanks for the review, I was ready to pull the trigger on this Sammy Monitor and noticed it's not on sale anymore 😂 which even stopped me from purchasing Mini for now! Let me wait for Mini Pro on sale 😊
I’m thinking about getting this for music production, but certain things are holding me back and I know it’s petty for one. I wish they would come out with a space gray or black version and what’s up with the power button on the bottom of the device? I believe they could’ve put the power button at least on the side of the device that would’ve been better, but I probably will get one soon.
Nice video, it was worth waiting for it to upload at 9am like you said 😉. I have a base pro and am a basic user but I got it to future proof it to last and perform many years and no need to upgrade sooner as I would with the base unit.
To be honest its either the right choice or even an maxed out Mac Mini M4 Pro will limit you compared to a M4 Hydra Maxed Out Mac Studio or if Single Core performance is the deal even a M7 Generation Apple Silicon will limit you. The real question is is the limitation relevant and can you justify economical an upgrade, and where is currently the most economical configuration (heavily relying on the rates you can charge to your customers). How big is the percentage of the WHOLE production process of a 10 Minute 4 K Video, How long does it take to make A-Role and B-Role shooting, how muchdoes it take to prepare the video instructions, how much time does it take to go to the shooting locations, how much does the preparing of the cutting and the arranging of the scenes take,......... How much relevance has it to save 10s in exporting a 10 min 4 K Video where the whole production process took a full working day. Even if you save 50% in rendering time it does not mean you produce the double amount of videos you probably produce 5% more videos on the longterm, IF ANY!
Thanks so much for the detailed review. I thought I would need the M4 Pro, so you confirmed what I already knew. I'm maxing it out, and I'll also be picking up the Apple Display. I purchased the M3 16" MacBook Pro this past August.
If you need the time saved that a Mac Mini Pro gives you, you can write it as a business expense. If you’re an average joe, the base Mac Mini is good enough.
I must admit I'm somewhat frustrated you seem to be slating the base mini just because you clearly made a mistake and purchased the wrong machine for your workload. The fact you thought it would do what you needed is somewhat concerning.
It's probably to do with throttling on the MacBook. I saw some video where different profiles were set on the MacBook and it influenced how much longer it would sustain load before kicking up the fan. On performance profile they were able to push the CPU higher at the cost of more noise. Don't remember the channel name, could be Max Tech.
Hi there, I don't use my Mac professionally. But I constantly have 50 Chrome tabs, Excel files with macros, TH-cam videos... Is the M4 chip enough or should I get the M4 Pro ? And with how much memory? I specify that I want to keep my Mac as long as possible. (I currently have an MBP mid-2009). Thank you for your answers !
@@RjeyTech Thank you for your quick response I hope the AI doesn't use too much memory. I will probably buy the next MBA 24/512 for 1,759.00€ then, hoping it lasts me 15 years !
Thats why you never buy a product before doing a research or impulsive purchases, a lot of people go by what Influencers or your tuber say, dont do that
No mention of thermals? Does the M4 and M4 Pro run cool or hot when running apps? Any fan noise running any of your apps? These factors have always been issues for me on MacBooks and Mac Minis.
in ur stress test please show us how the software lags or buffering cursor when editing 4k videos on timeline for 1hour and many effects etc. also opening all apps. please show us this in stress test please
I will admit I go back-and-forth between the base model and the pro. My only real issue is I really wanna dump my gaming PC as most of the games I play have Mac versions and I think the pro would be better because of its increased GPU capabilities. I have a an M2 MacBook Pro Laptop 16 inch that I play worth under on and while it does play in some of the battle scenes it just Leitches and I don’t like that. So I’m probably going pro all the way, but I’m not sure I would get the unbind model because I don’t think there’s that much difference for the extra $200 and I’d rather put that in the ram
2:10 , other companies already have that. E.g. beelink or a lot of laptops in general where they have the long rubber things that slightly elevate them.
Good review... But I'm not a content creator. I do, however, do professional graphic design, video production, motion graphics, audio production... Still doing it on an M1 Mini. I think y'all are impatient because you don't know how long it used to take to do any of this stuff. Going from 3 minutes a render to 1? 🤣 You used to be able to go to dinner while rendering! And you should really never say, "future proof." Nothing is "future proof." 😉 Appreciate your reviews and insights though!
As these Macs are not upgradable after purchase, you really need to go with the M4 pro for any kind of use for the coming years as AI software is being released almost monthly.
@@relaxationsounds6981 I have 32GB Win and I use 16GB all the time. While in music production, is little more , but I never have filled 32GB capacity. So unified memory 24GB should be enough for music production, right? No heavy instruments. But heavy plugins. Can anybody elaborate? RAM is a crazy expensive upgrade here, folks. I'd rather get faster CPU and more SSD for just RAM itself.
32GB ram and 1TB ssd and the Pro CPU version is the true base model for anyone doing anything more demanding then browsing the web and checking emails. But for that you have M4 iPad Pro. I went with the 64GB ram 2TB ssd Pro version, which is optimal for a creator workflow as you won’t need the OS to cache to ssd disk when multi-tasking.
They should have had 32Gb memory as standard in reality. I would even suck up 512Gb like the Studio machines if they'd made the memory a conventional number.
Still doing graphics, video, and motion graphics in all the CC apps on an M1 Mini with 16gb of RAM with no real issues.... With 50 tabs open in Chrome 😂
What I don't get is I have a spect up MacBook mini pro with everything upgraded, including unified memory, about 48 gigs. But I render a 4K footage video. That is 25 minutes long and it takes 45 minutes, which is crazy cause that's almost As fast as my M2 pro, which would do the same task an hour and 15? How do I speed up file cut pro?
I'm amazed at the (as expected) reaction of the Apple Sheep to continually argue in favour of the new power button placement! Have you heard of the Emperor's new clothes? The power button has been placed in the most stupid place for a reason - to get users to continually twist the unit sideways to power cycle - leading to the eventual breaking of the rear ports. The Emperor is NAKED! Stick a couple of pads on the top and turn the stupid box upside down and use it properly! As for 'I never turn it off' - stop talking out your @&£!
Another youtuber has shown that the read/write speeds of the base model 256gb SSD are slower than the 512gb option. I suppose it's possible that this is some of what you felt when rendering on the M4 Pro since it comes with the upgraded ssd also.
not upgraded, but different. The SSD on the base mini has two chips, 2 x 128GB. The SSD in the base mini Pro has four chips, 4 x 128 GB. The SSD controller can and does parallelize operations to different chips. You would get the same read/write performance from a mini configured with 512 GB of storage as from a base mini pro.

Thanks so much for the detailed review. I thought I would need the M4 Pro, so you confirmed what I already knew. I'm maxing it out, and I'll also be picking up the Apple Display. I purchased the M3 16" MacBook Pro this past August.
So its gone from getting the base model and increase the ram to triple the budget with unbinned chip a week later! 😂😂😂😂😂
LOL that's how apple gets you
@2:10 the bottom vent is hardly a new idea, it was on the 2013 Mac Pro…
If you need the time saved that a Mac Mini Pro gives you, you can write it as a business expense.
If you’re an average joe, the base Mac Mini is good enough.
Will be Team Mini M4Pro and I will bump up the CPU for my 3D Printing
🐬
I must admit I'm somewhat frustrated you seem to be slating the base mini just because you clearly made a mistake and purchased the wrong machine for your workload. The fact you thought it would do what you needed is somewhat concerning.
M4 Pro, base Chip set. 48gb ram 1tb SSD and 10 gigabit Ethernet. Dual benQ32" 4k
Interesting that the M4 Pro Mini is faster than the M4 MacBook Pro. But why only in Multicore and not single core? 5:59
What about the apps that used from graphic & UI designers like photoshop, illustrator, indesign & figma... Is the base M4 Mac mini goes well?!
Hi there,
I don't use my Mac professionally.
M4 chip is enough, just get 24 GB of ram
@@RjeyTech Thank you for your quick response
I hope the AI doesn't use too much memory. I will probably buy the next MBA 24/512 for 1,759.00€ then, hoping it lasts me 15 years !
@@bertrusmcfly7958 apple intelligence requires 16 GB of ram to run, hence why they doubled the ram on the base mac mini. 24 GB is the sweet spot imo
Please watch my stress test video I mention everything you asked. th-cam.com/video/LdTb1w4FhHg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=31gV_Gqb8A-SJx85
According to another video, the M4pro is much better for cooling.
@@bill4510 it's the same
Monitor Samsung Viewfinity S9 ?
This is pretty much a setup. You bought the base knowing the spec. Influencers need to learn their use cases.
what is ur pro model specs bro? like ram and cpu gpu and rom
My boy said it took 5 miuntes lol
My old laptop was pushing out 10 minutes at 1080p 30fps in 2 plus hours
Thanks for the video. I don't think a windshield on a microphone makes sense in the inside, it protects from wind, hence the name.
in ur stress test please show us how the software lags or buffering cursor when editing 4k videos on timeline for 1hour and many effects etc. also opening all apps. please show us this in stress test please
🐬Nice review and explanation of when the M4 Pro is needed. I think I’ll be just fine with the base M4. Thank you!
8:48 Spec wise a base M4 pro is a better deal. I’m seriously thinking about getting one for video editing and recording music.
conclusion according to this youtuber is , base mac mini is for beginners only.....
I think the 24GB/512GB is the sweet spot.
Is the base model enough for only Logic Pro?
Yeah it should be, I've seen some other videos saying it's great
Why your all videos are look's too blurry.? Please give some sharpness.!🙏
And you should really never say, "future proof." Nothing is "future proof." 😉
Appreciate your reviews and insights though!
As these Macs are not upgradable after purchase, you really need to go with the M4 pro for any kind of use for the coming years as AI software is being released almost monthly.
Base M4 is more than enough for my programming work.
It's amazing for programming!
🐬 Can the on/off button on a G3/G4 keyboard be used to switch it on and off?
You can return that base Mini any time through January 8th, 2025.
Did you stress test the "M4 Pro" mac mini? In your normal use (or stress test) did you hear the fans? did the mac mini get hot?
It doesn't ever get hot and it's super quiet
You should have waited for the m4 ultra Mac Studio
Is M4 Pro good for heavy 3d editing in After Effects??
Yeah it's great for AE, I actually use it for that as well
@RjeyTech okk Thank You so Much man & your video was awesome it helped me a lot 🔥 New Subscriber 🙌🏻
@vaibhav3657 welcome aboard 🥳
6:33 External GPU? On an M4 Mac?
What eGPU can you conect to apple ??
I knew it. I got the base m4 pro instead.
Dust on the sensor at 5:47 😊
So... now 24GB of ram or 48GB?
That is my thinking as well, how much ram will be good in order for the computer to be relevant longer?
@@relaxationsounds6981 I have 32GB Win and I use 16GB all the time. While in music production, is little more , but I never have filled 32GB capacity. So unified memory 24GB should be enough for music production, right? No heavy instruments. But heavy plugins. Can anybody elaborate? RAM is a crazy expensive upgrade here, folks. I'd rather get faster CPU and more SSD for just RAM itself.
very informative
Glad it was helpful!
You paste there in other videos too, and it's still nonsense.
This guy has complaints about everything.
I have got a M4 Pro mac mini with 64GB ram. It’s not for 3D pro working. 🙅🏻
What type of 3D work?
Thanks
I'm based!
Oh no. Five minutes.
Nothing new here.

I suspect some my prefer Mac Studio with better thermals. I dont trust YT folks to provide realistisic reviews.
