Rich was one of few Christian “celebrities” that I felt like I knew because he put his heart and soul into his lyrics and music. I miss him like a family member.

Rich changed the lyric in this version:
I remember my father's house / what I wouldn't give right now / just to see him / and hear him tell me that he loves me *somehow*
The album version has "so much" instead of "somehow."
Can't believe I've never heard this version until now!
My father disowned me when I was a young boy, and when I heard this song as a teen in the 90s, that line "hear him tell me that he loves me *so much*" always just broke me. It was a favorite song but one that brought a lot of pain, too.
Hearing this version with "somehow" changes the spirit of it for me and reminds me it is *my sin* that my Father in heaven so scandalously forgives--somehow. Grateful for the acceptance of my eternal Family.

You might connect similarly with another song about a man who keeps his promises - it "broke me" th-cam.com/video/n4mW9TRF5TI/w-d-xo.html

@@stillbren Thank you for the suggestion - it was beautiful and resonating for sure. He has proven Himself time and again - a trustworthy Father beyond the frailties of earthly men. So blessed to be included by His mercies.

    Thank God for you tube
I discovered this song by accident. I was intrigued by the title growing young. It’s my favorite Rich Mullins song.

I was blessed to have met him about 6 years before he went home. As I shared part of my testimony it was if I were the only person present. Can't wait to see this amazing man again.

My favorite song of his, and possibly my favorite song period.

If you’ve never seen the Light you just won’t get this song; I did when I was nine years old and I know what they’re talking about!

The hardest thing about this Christian thing is somehow overcoming a lifetime of programming that tells you that you can't feel pain. That pain is weakness & weakness is death, so don't you dare cry, or complain, or show that you're human in any way.
When pain does come you ignore it, pretend it's not there, &, when you can't do that, you bury it under addictions, distractions, & the lies you tell yourself: "I'm okay," "It's not 'that bad,'" "I can handle this," & other such abstract nonsense.
But I think I'm really starting to get it now. I'm starting to see that pain is not "weakness." It's not something to be ashamed of or something you have to hide unless you want something bigger than you to eat you. It's taken me a lot of failures & disappointments & I'm not going to pretend to really believe in my heart that the lies aren't true, but I'm starting to see that God is not going to abandon me no matter how much my pain & pride might want him to. That he's not going to stop loving me no matter how much I hurt myself to get him to stop.
"I'm learning that even I can be changed."

Strumming should be a bit slower. Or they should have done finger picking maybe
