If the anime version doesn’t make you cry just drop the series… totally kidding. Seriously though after almost 1100 chapters and episodes, the “Help Me” moment is still one the best moments is One Piece
For anime watchers, that final scene was a MAJOR scene that they needed to deliver on. Emily Rudd absolutely delivered that scene exactly how it should have been done.
Bro the interview with the cast when they're watching this scene and you can see her start to cry and Luffy's actor gets a bit emotional about it as well. These actors and actresses understood the assignment. Emily saying this is when she knew she loved the show and wanted the role. *Chefs kiss* perfection.
Arlong Park and Nami finally breaking down and asking Luffy for help is widely regarded as one of the big moments that tends to hook people on the series, and it seems like they really did that moment justice. Funny enough, Nojiko and the village not knowing what Nami was trying to do for them is actually a change from the original. I guess maybe they felt it would be more dramatic if Nami really was completely alone and hated by everyone until she met the Straw Hats. Also yes you heard correctly, one of the Warlords is a fishman name Jinbe!
I find it HILARIOUS that you thought Bellemere was going to be taken prisoner or something because that's what the 4Kids version of the anime did instead of having her be shot
19:00 It's a small thing but I like how a few episodes ago Zoro couldn't be arsed to have a conversation with Luffy about his grandfather, but here he's actually acting like a bro.
I think its also important to emphasize how big some characters actually are... Arlong for example is almost twice the size of Luffy (probably more like 50% - 75% taller, but still absolutely massive).
The scene where Nami breaks down is what got me to even attempt to watch the anime. I saw the clip randomly and I just had to know the context. And while I will always prefer how the animanga handled this arc, I have to once again give it up to Emily Rudd man. Her screams both when the Marines are taking her money and when she breaks down are top tier man. She really puts her entire being into this performance and this episode is the first time she gets to express such huge emotion. And then bringing it back down to the small “Luffy… Help me.” Ugh my heart! And the moment when Luffy puts his hat on Nami, the same hat he is so protective of, that he considers to be his treasure. Ugh! Shoot me! But what a way to finally get through to Nami that she now has people who will support her always.
in the anime the citizens actually knew what nami was doing and the scar guy declared to attack arlong with the villagers even though it would mean death. that’s what led into nami running and the help me scene
Jinbei name gave me chills the first time I heard his name back in 2006 when I started One Piece journey .. it gave me the same chills again in this LA for some reason
Look, as a Nami fan, I gotta say this: as great as they adapted it in the live action, Nami's arc and backstory is SO much more emotional and complete in the original, so even if you don't plan on check out the anime, I'd still recommend you to watch at least her arc. There's a special called "Episode of Nami: Tears of a Navigator" that is a (slightly resumed) version of her arc only, to make things easier. With that said, emily Rudd and Iñaki Godoy nailed it in the Help Me scene.
One piece character height and size differences get crazy, like the further we’ve gotten the less realistic the proportions get. There’s no way they will manage to cast these characters with actors that will match the source. Like arlong is already freaking huge. So they are going to have to continue with camera angles in order to give sense of scale.
I hear a lot of people say that she shouldn't have trusted Arlong, and yeah ofcourse she shouldn't have. I just feel the need to point out that she was just a little girl who was so scared of losing someone else she loved that she would do anything. It's just all so devastating and I'll never get over it lol

I am not saying anything, just giving you 2 facts: Roger was executed 22y ago, and Luffy is 17 at this point in the story (even though the live action never outrigth stated it)
what is great fan service is that since the LA is working off 1000+ chapters of material they can sprinkle in namedrops and locations etc that comes up so many arcs later, gives it a real worldbuilding feel.
You got that right, Captain Nezumi (which just means 'rat' in Japanese by the way) did say that Jinbei was a Fishman and a member of one of the seven warlords. Also note Arlong's reaction, saying that Jinbei was a government dog. Compare that to how Mihawk acted. Something to think about.
Funny that you mentioned Arlong taking Nami’s mother prisoner, in the original English dub of the anime produced by 4kids and censored for an American TV-Y7 broadcast demographic, that was how they covered up her death. The gun was edited to be a pointed finger as he commanded her to go to his dungeon rather than shooting. It’s funny to look back on now that we have greater access to both an uncut English version and the original Japanese anime as well as the manga, but it’s wild to remember that at one point that was basically all American anime watchers had due to strictness of American television (which, I guess granted for a Y7 demographic they didn’t have much of a choice on but other countries advertised it for a bit older kids and young teens as is)
Trivia: grandline have 2 sections. The paradise, or pirates graveyard, and new world. Mihawk and other warlords, most of them, is in the paradise section.
But I must say the “Luffy, help me” scene doesn’t stand on the same ground as its counterpart in the manga/anime. But…! Emily Rudd, beside being limited by the script and direction, did her best

At this point of the story three characters are freaking strong, Shanks, Mihawk, and you'll see who the third OP character is in episode 8.
Not going to say any spoilers, but I will say that the way Jimbe is referenced here is different than in the manga - by this point in the story, Oda had one idea of what he was going to do with that character, but he ended up going a different route, and they're framing this reference to him with what actually ends up happening in mind. I just always think it's interesting when you can see evidence of altered plans in a long-running work of fiction.
Arlong is just a flea...yes he is strong but not strong enough... so speaking of Grandline...imagine that all species or people living there are like shanks and mihawk or garp... Belle Mere -means beautiful mother Nezumi- japanese name for rat...like being traitor or turncoat Jimbei- remember that name...

I was really surprised how much they changed nojiko (nami's sister). in the original, she's actually very supportive and trusting of nami. yes, I know she knew nami's reasoning in the original, but I still think she would've trusted nami if she didn't. P.S shoutout to arlong's vacation clothes since he's got his own private vacation island.

But the moment with the three all stanced up as luffy approaches, and he calls for them to come and they all say "right" in unison is just.. *chefs kiss*. Jinbei is a Warlord, there's no Fishman Marines because they won't ever work for The World Government who put them as slaves but Jinbei has reasons that I won't go into. Just remember him, he is the goat
What I don't really understand is how the Marines, well the one under Garp's control since they are clearly off book, not knowing his last name. They are apparently from the Goa Kingdom that was mentioned in episode 2 and the family name leads the name. So, he is Monkey D. Garp. Which has to be listed somewhere. And Luffy doesn't shy away from announcing his whole name. I just have to think that Monkey D. is almost like Smith in this world. Or, this is comic character who I could see being bigger in the show but he is only a side character elsewhere, being the dissonace in the general public of why they don't link Garp with his son, Luffy's father, who apparently thought Luffy would be safer with (and a set of scenes in episode 8 pretty much show they are probably much more alike and love each other).
I think that is because one, Garp does not announce his full name like Luffy, and two Garp is known more by either his epithet or his title ("Garp The Fist" and "Vice-Admiral Garp" respectively). You have to keep in mind the reason why last names are even used in the first place... in our interconnected age, or within large cities, using last names becomes very important as there can be multiple people with the same first names... but in much smaller areas (like the many villages of One Piece, or the roughly hundred or so people present on most marine or pirate ships), you will probably have a hard time finding even two people with the same first name, so using last names becomes unnecessary... I would guess that higher ups probably know his last name, but if Garp just doesn't use his last name a lot sicne there is only one "Garp The Fist" or "Vice-Admiral Garp", then why would anyone working under him know his last name if he never announces it, and most people already know who you are talking about when you say the name "Garp" ?
I mean, look at the man's shelf. This season we had a killer clown, cat burglars, and a shark man (also hints of a league of assassins early on). It was pretty much "Plastic Man in Gotham". All that was missing is Killer Croc, Mr Freeze, and the Penguin.
The beautiful thing about One piece getting adapted in live action in this day and age is that it won't have forced inclusivity, racism, politics or even gender identity because all of those exist within one piece way before hollywood made it into what it is today.
well the neighbors did try that lie at first - but she made the call of not lying. Being an ex- marine she knew how pirates operated and that they would have destroyed all the villages boats during the raid. Nami and Noijko wouldnt have been able to flee and sooner or later would have been found out about by Arlongs crew if they stayed. And then they would have surely been killed for the lie. So it was a calculated sacrifice just like Zeffs leg f.i.
Nami and her Mom just had a fight where Nami said she wasnt her real Mother and Bellemere slapped her for it. When Arlong asked if she was the only one in her family, she couldnt deny her kids. She wanted to prove to everyone that they are in fact a family. It was a matter of principle so to speak. And because they are a family, Arlong killed her.
arlong technically did not broke his promise to nami. he tactically used an always present third party into the equation. he still a dick nevertheless. this was better shown in the manga and anime because they dont have shorter time restraints that live action has
While this whole Live-action has definetly exceeded my expectations... not everything in it is as good as I hoped it would be. While the changes they made to Syrup Village Arc were good in regards to turning the story into a sort of Horror movies-inspired plot... I was disappointed that Usopp's character development was butchered as much it was (I won't specify on what things I didn't like in case you wanna find out for yourself). And now here in Coco Village I feel that the change they did to Arlong and Nami's dynamic/relationship was also for the worst. I'm not saying that the whole arc was bad by any means but.... it's shame that some characters had to be "toned down" in order for the overarching story to run smoothly. On a side note.... I want to comment on the fact that a lot of people are apparently recommending you to watch the video called "the breathtaking world of One Piece"... and I agree that it is a very beautiful video... but I think it's not the best idea for you to react to it right now, because even though it is true that it doesn't have any spoilers in regards to the story... it does have spoilers in regards to the places that you're gonna be seeing in the show, and there's a couple of those places that I think it would be best if you didn't know anything about them... because even having an image with no context could affect the overall surprise.

i think they've done a great job with the camera angles and the sound design! even though they're not physically huge they Feel strong and powerful

Fishmen supposed to be 7-8 feet tall, but since the shots would have look awkward, they handle it with the upward angle most of the time.

The adpatation of my favorite scene in the entirey of the manga. They did amazing!
The part where Nami's mom slaps her is more built up and not so abrupt.
Arlong is actually three times bigger than Luffy. Through the camera angle they try to make him look at least a little bit bigger.

I think that is because one, Garp does not announce his full name like Luffy, and two Garp is known more by either his epithet or his title ("Garp The Fist" and "Vice-Admiral Garp" respectively). You have to keep in mind the reason why last names are even used in the first place... in our interconnected age, or within large cities, using last names becomes very important as there can be multiple people with the same first names... but in much smaller areas (like the many villages of One Piece, or the roughly hundred or so people present on most marine or pirate ships), you will probably have a hard time finding even two people with the same first name, so using last names becomes unnecessary... I would guess that higher ups probably know his last name, but if Garp just doesn't use his last name a lot sicne there is only one "Garp The Fist" or "Vice-Admiral Garp", then why would anyone working under him know his last name if he never announces it, and most people already know who you are talking about when you say the name "Garp" ?

The beautiful thing about One piece getting adapted in live action in this day and age is that it won't have forced inclusivity, racism, politics or even gender identity because all of those exist within one piece way before hollywood made it into what it is today.

well the neighbors did try that lie at first - but she made the call of not lying. Being an ex- marine she knew how pirates operated and that they would have destroyed all the villages boats during the raid. Nami and Noijko wouldnt have been able to flee and sooner or later would have been found out about by Arlongs crew if they stayed. And then they would have surely been killed for the lie. So it was a calculated sacrifice just like Zeffs leg f.i.
Nami and her Mom just had a fight where Nami said she wasnt her real Mother and Bellemere slapped her for it. When Arlong asked if she was the only one in her family, she couldnt deny her kids. She wanted to prove to everyone that they are in fact a family. It was a matter of principle so to speak. And because they are a family, Arlong killed her.

arlong technically did not broke his promise to nami. he tactically used an always present third party into the equation. he still a dick nevertheless. this was better shown in the manga and anime because they dont have shorter time restraints that live action has
While this whole Live-action has definetly exceeded my expectations... not everything in it is as good as I hoped it would be.
While the changes they made to Syrup Village Arc were good in regards to turning the story into a sort of Horror movies-inspired plot... I was disappointed that Usopp's character development was butchered as much it was (I won't specify on what things I didn't like in case you wanna find out for yourself).
And now here in Coco Village I feel that the change they did to Arlong and Nami's dynamic/relationship was also for the worst. I'm not saying that the whole arc was bad by any means but.... it's shame that some characters had to be "toned down" in order for the overarching story to run smoothly.
On a side note.... I want to comment on the fact that a lot of people are apparently recommending you to watch the video called "the breathtaking world of One Piece"... and I agree that it is a very beautiful video... but I think it's not the best idea for you to react to it right now, because even though it is true that it doesn't have any spoilers in regards to the story... it does have spoilers in regards to the places that you're gonna be seeing in the show, and there's a couple of those places that I think it would be best if you didn't know anything about them... because even having an image with no context could affect the overall surprise.

Oda have everything in this world i cant wait for 2 fan fav Bon clay(gay) And literally the Queen of every latter Emporio Ivan( Drag Queen ) inspired by Dr Frank-N-Furter oda been doing the right way since 1997. Now days people just want to force woke to a established character but oda give them there own unique story.
