- It's a little late but it's here!! Our different reaction to (G)I-DLE's Hwaa!! As you can see in this video, sometimes our opinions differ and that is ok! Not everyone has the same preferences/taste and this is a good example of that. The song is still a bop and the girls did amazing! Such a good music video and concept. Neverlands, how do you feel??

The mv and song has a story about Han which is a korean type of emotion about sorrow if I can put it in that way, it's complicated to explain in another language. So it's a story and there's an order for listening to the songs which is Han, Hann(alone in winter) and Hwaa. So it's like there's a relationship and that relationship ends it so they have to pass through han, and that's why is cold, it's winter, so Hwaa it's about lighting up the fire which will make the winter stop(by making that you would be able to fully get over it and be able to fall in love again.), she have to get over the breaking up so in the mv you see them going though winter then spring and for the last she's able to light up the fire so now she's able to fall in love all over again because she survived Han. Soyeon wrote this based on Shuhua, because looking at Shuhua's beauty she thought about how pure her beauty is and how it did remind her of winter.

The story of the song and video is a metaphor of seasons changing representing a breakup. The first song in the story is Hann, then the first two tracks on I Burn (Hwaa is track 2).
Hwaa is all about coming out of the dark winter (breakup) into spring with the cleansing power and new life that fire brings.
The music and visuals do pull a lot from traditional Korean and Chinese including the string instrument (which Yuqi even plays!)
(Esosa) Okay but this makes so much sense and I can now see the MVs and certain sounds meshing well with the seasons changing and break up themes. Dope! Going to watch Lion first tho hehe.

I'm wondering if you had subs on, cause you could've easily understood the story.
You can notice in the music video that there are three themes: winter (represented by white outfits), fire (represented by red) and flower (flower prints and sets). The story of the song and music video is them burning the ice (or coldness of a breakup) with fire and blooming into flowers that represent them becoming a new person post-breakup. That's why the song is called HWAA, because it means fire and flower at the same time.
And btw, the rapper is the one who wrote and co-composed the song as well as most of the group's discography.
First of all: Jeon Soyeon... You are AMAZING! WHAT A TALENT WOMAN!
Second: Yuqi and Minnie's voice... HEAVENLY!
Third: Miyeon, Soojin and Shuhua... Amazing visuals!
At last, but not the least: Your reacitons always on point and very pleasing to watch
This song had me shook and was my gateway into (G)I-dle (a bit like what Deja Vu did for me with Dreamcatcher & La Di Da for Everglow). You shouldn't have to apologize Esosa; people have different preferences and everyone should be accepting of that. Though, I'd recommend giving them another chance because they have a good amount of variety, even amongst their title tracks.
And btw, you guys always get in some great lines, e.g. "people have been blowing up our comments against our wishes", so funny! [edit: oops, originally forgot the word "up" somehow, which made it unintentionally funnier/weirder!] 😜Although, that's understandable for this group because they're a quality group all around.
The song Hann has a connection with this one Soyeon the leader, main rapper and also the author of the songs said that we should listen Hann(alone), that was a previous single, then to Hann(alone in the winter) that is include in the i burn cd and then to Hwa to put all the story together, this music video has a lot of references from the Hann music video maybe that's why Esosa didn't get the references.
And it's ok that you don't like it at all, we are different and we have different taste so don't worry about it!
But you should give it another try and listen to a different song from them, they have a lot of good songs my recomendations are Lion, Hann and Oh my god.
if you're looking to get into G-idle, 'oh my god', 'put it straight', 'haan' and 'lion' are all top notch and all sound different(ly alike :p). Especially the nightmare version of put it straight is *chef's kiss*.

HWAA is definitely more Asian-sounding for me since I'm Asian, but it's so interesting to know that some of the sounds from HWAA is similar to Latin and Spanish sounds as well!

this one is the follow up to the story of their previous title "Hann" (please react to it as well haha) which express the feels of breaking up w someone who's bad for you. on this one, for me, they went through the seasons of this relationship and are now blossoming/being born again through the fire.

Minnie’s high notes gets me every time
The song basically conveys the emotions after a break up. In the beginning you're stuck on the memories of good times you had, everything this bleak and colorless, i.e frozen hence cold/white aesthetic, then you pick yourself up, ignite your will to move on, and that burns away the 'shackles' (the long braids that connected them to the dead tree), hence the red/fire aesthetic towards the end. And yes the song has traditional korean sounds. This song also relates to one of their previous songs Hann(2018, there's a 2021 Hann as well). Both Hanns and Hwaa basically potray the aftermath of a breakup, but are different based on the way in which the 'protagonist' reacts to the breakup. Hann'18- angry, resentful, Hann'21- longing and self loathing, Hwaa- Finally moving on. Lmao this is a long read but there's no shorter way to explain it properly. And also since you said you like rappers, definitely check out Lion, Oh My God, Uh Oh. Özlem describes it really well when she said it has 'Gidle sound' bc they do have their distinct style, but that style itself is hella ambiguous. Ty for the honest reaction 👍
The lyrics are 100% korean, there is no english. The concept is like traditional korean culture (something like that).

The concept, the outfit thats from white, flower to red. Its represent winter (breakup), flower (after breakup), red (fire to melts the winter so the flower shall bloom). Their choreos also has symbolic like the chorus is fire and flower. Hwaa means fire and flower and the same time.

I see why Esosa is a little bit confused. G-Idle is keen to mixing cultures while still not clearly portraying them, so you're then left wondering whether it was a cultural reference or just a kpop concept. In this song, specifically, I can see some oriental and latin references, plus the Asian instruments Özlem mentioned. So yeah, pretty multicultural.

@@DifferentlyAlike This song was released and recorded with English, Chinese and Japanese versions, and they studied the phonics so they could accurately recreate the lyrics and cadence of the melodies in those languages. This is how dedicated they are to representing multiculturalism. There is a behind the scenes video of them dligently practicing pronunciation with Yuqi, Shuhua, and a phonics coach in the studio to make it perfect. I am convinced their future albums will have multi language versions of their songs
(G)I-dle is pretty much hit and miss for me. Oh my god was my introduction to the group but I think my favorite is Lion.
At first I didn't really vibe with the song then after awhile I vibe with it, something just clicked with me, like alot of songs, it just takes time or sometimes it just don't make your playlist, appreciate the reaction! I became a neverland this year, it's their funny wonderful personalities mixed with amazing vocals that got me hooked!

Hwaa is a "grower". It felt very "meh" compared to some of there most recent releases and slowly as it popped up on my playlist I've grown to appreciate it much more.
Lion on the other hand I immediately loved. It was helped by the fact that their live stage on Queendom where they introduced the song was so epic as well.

At its base this song is a moombahton track with traditional Korean and other musical elements mixed in. Moombahton is a fusion genre of house music and reggaetón, which is why you were recognizing a Latin music element to the track. So this track fuses a fusion genre with several other elements, which can be distracting if you are trying to identify the various elements on an initial listen. (G)I-DLE often mixes different genres and influences in their music, which keeps things fresh and interesting.

Insomnia here! @Esosa, there are a few of G-Idle's songs I think you'd probably enjoy a bit more. I always recommend "Oh My God" (which is also a weird one, but just a bit less so) and "Lion" in particular.
(Esosa) So currently Lion, Hann and Oh My God are the ones requested the most atm.
Esosa, you are totally right picking up some latin/spanish sounds. The drums/percussion are very latin inspired by Dembow which is a rythm popularized in Reggaeton.
(Esosa) I thought so but second guessed myself because no one else could hear it. Felt stupid for a bit. I wonder if they have a lot of those influences in their songs. Have to dive and find out.
@@DifferentlyAlike Don't worry, I hear it too! I think one of the strengths Kpop producers have when making bops is being able to mix things that work from different genres into their songs. These past year I would say in Kpop there was a lot of Reggaeton, Rap and Trap influences, and lately a lot of influence from Synthwave/Retro as well which has become very popular again thanks to artists like The Weeknd.

I would recommend Oh My God, Latata and Lion. Those are great songs as well and you can reference the different styles they use. This group is very versatile so I fell like a lot of people can like multiple of their songs because they are so different.

Hi Emmeth, thank you for leaving a comment with your thoughts and opinions about our video! I, Özlem, would like to tell you that I am indeed very familiar with (G)I-DLE. I’ve been following them since pre-debut and have been loving the music they’ve released so far. Esosa on the other hand is new to every girl group we react to, every very first reaction to a girl group on here is Esosa’s very first reaction. The comment she made in the beginning of the video was a joke and should be taken lightly. This video was filmed a while ago, when
people were spamming the comments with reaction requests to a point that other comments would simply drown in the sea of requests. We weren’t annoyed or mad, it was a joke that should’ve lightly indicated that people can always join our Discord server and request videos to their hearts’ content in there! Unless we, or one of us, really know the group we always dive into videos with zero expectations meaning that Esosa, not knowing (G)I-DLE went into this reaction with no pre-conceived emotions or expectations. The song simply wasn’t her cup of tea and she has every right to not like a song! However this shouldn’t really matter because it’s an honest reaction, so the truth must be spoken. I get where you are coming from but I just wanted to tell you, we don’t do reactions where we feel any kind of negativity. That’s not what we stand for. So everything posted on this channel was posted because we wanted it to be on here! @@DifferentlyAlike Oh no, i understand, as explained in the video i know that you are familiar with the group, and Esosa, is not, maybe my comment was a little off, i edited to portray better what i was trying to convey, but based on the beginning of it, i sincerelly think that even if it is unconsciously, expectations were high trough the roof and were not attended right at the start of the song (but again if its unconscious what im saying doesn't even matter cause she wont be able to control it hahah) maybe she was already not vibing with it from the start, but again, nothing wrong with that, it's an opinion, the asian with latin thing and the mixture of genres is present in like, 80% of kpop, and this is especially true in (G)-IDLE, none of their songs are gonna be full korean nor full latin or full japanese or this or that, always gonna be a mixture of everything and yeah, maybe is not gonna be for everybody, again i think that just the timing was a little bit off, i really think if the comments weren't so fresh,not saying that she would love the song but maybe perceived a little better the art, craftmanship and the concept behind it :)
