  • An F-15C Eagle with the Massachusetts Air National Guard's 104th Fighter Wing, assuming the callsign REHEAT01 for this flight, runs a quick engine run-up before gunning it down the runway into a vertical climb.
    *This flight was piloted by Major Glenn "Chugs" Milliken, who passed away yesterday, 23 February 2016, from pancreatic cancer at the age of 38. Glad to say I got to film and meet him for however brief a time. Godspeed, sir.*

    *********Update on this video, the fighter pilot of whom I became friends with that was the pilot of this exact flight, Major Glenn "Chugs" Milliken passed away yesterday, 23 February 2016, from pancreatic cancer at the age of 38. To any future viewers of this video, please keep note that you are watching one of the final Eagle sorties for this great American Airman out of Barnes ANGB. Another hero lost.*********

      +Cody Lastowski  He went on to fly F-15s at Andrews AFB after he left the MA ANG. So not one of his final sorties overall, but probably one of his last out of Barnes.

      That's what I was meaning, my bad on the wording. This was one of the last, I think, two sorties or so that I actually saw him fly before he posted that he was moving on to a new position in Virginia.

    • @Rachel1663
      @Rachel1663 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Cody Lastowski Woops, I made a bad too, it wasn't Virginia, he went on to Andrews AFB which is in Maryland. I edited to correct my post. Thank you for putting this video here on TH-cam! I admit, I "lost it" when I watched it, but I'm so happy it's here to see. I'm sure it makes his family and friends proud to be able to see him in action.

      +Rachel1663 Not a problem. And dont worry, you weren't entirely wrong. He moved out to Virginia in an area that was right across the border from Maryland and joint base Andrews.

    10 seconds from brake release to rotation.. That’s some serious power those engines are putting down.

      The engines output more thrust than the gross weight of the aircraft.

      The F15 is a great aircraft!
      However, the Typhoon can match it in the
      Performance Take Off (PTO) mode and and get into the vertical climb faster.

    I am so glad I stumbled upon this video. I lived under the flight path for Langley AFB in the late 70’s. The F-15’s always returned in pairs. I always heard the “weeeep weeeep” and never knew what that was. 40 years later now I know!!! I lived on ElToro MCAS when they transitioned from F4’s, A4’s and A6’s to the F18 they never made that noise. However one week four F15’s from Luke AFB came to play with the Marines. The day they left....strait up for three /four miles. Best show ever.

      I was at Kadena 1979, I was a Tanker Crew Chief, they were repacing the F-4s I was out on the wing of the tanker doing some maintenance when I saw this F-15 , take off, and went straight up till you could'nt see it, never saw an F4 do that, very impessed!

    there have been lots of complaints this past year of how the US Military either drew out of or canceled most of the major air shows due to sequestration, little do most people know that they can just drive over to Westfield and watch a spectacular air show right through the fence several days of the week.

      For real. The procedure for the pilots of the Streak Eagle was to move the gear switch to the ‘UP’ position as soon as the HUD showed airspeed so the retraction would start right at lift off.

    They don't do 'nozzle checks'. He was simply running up the engine's checking for responsiveness and temps.

      +Daniel H I realized that after I uploaded it but I just never got around to mending the title, but yes, the pilot that was flying this flight, Chugs, told me what he was doing after contacting me online. He said he was running everything up to mil power, basically torturing the engines to make sure they performed properly. Thanks for the comment.

    • @MrAir4orce
      @MrAir4orce  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is the actuators on the engine exhaust nozzles as they rapidly open and close with the changes in power. The faster they close, the more high pitched and noticable the sound is.

      It seems P&W F-100s only, early F-16 block 32s with same engines as Eagles make the same sound from nozzle actuators.

    • @jamespalumbo6346
      @jamespalumbo6346 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a pneumatic nozzle actuator that is run off of engine bleed air, hence the whistling. Those engines were probably PW220E or PW220's. All F-15s and probably F-16s had bleed air actuated nozzles, I'm thinking that it was a certain type of actuator that made the whistle noise. Hope it helps a bit
