Funny thing is that iPhone was build as a phone not a camera while Sony FX30 was build as a camera. Seeing these two compete and with only minor difference is mind blowing. iPhone can do a lot of things such as Gaming, video calls, text message, voice record, taking notes, alarm clock and more! The best part is you can put it inside your pocket! Sony needs to step up their software for real! This is my opinion so I’m just telling what I feel about these kind of comparison. Great video!
If you say so- There just isn’t proper detail being captured by the iPhone. It’s not performant as a camera in the documentary sense for industrial or scientific use-if this was video of a materials stress test, something like a rocket engine or a car wreck, etc… the phone isn’t doing the job of “a camera.” It’s just making a fuzzy video. If all you want fuzzy video, you don’t really need a camera- I don’t see the camera falling short here at all.
It's genuinely hard to fathom the Voodoo Apple is doing to make the iphone 15 hang with a beast like the FX-30. I mean, it's a cinema camera against a phone...It shouldn't be "zoom in to 500% at night to see the difference" difference! This comparison is incredible! Thank you so much. Best of luck with your channel!
An important note on stabilization lag. It only occurs when you are using luts on the blackmagic camera app and cinematic or extreme stabilization levels. If you disable the luts there is no lag ;)
Was debating for a while whether or not I should pick up another mirrorless camera as a b-cam but I couldn’t justify the extra cost. And today I see your incredible video for the first time and it confirmed why I chose to just use my iPhone. It really is incredible how good iPhone video technology has gotten. It’s not perfect in every situation but for my particular use it’s perfect.
The point is not which one is better. The whole reason for this is to show just how good the iPhone with this small sensor really is and this is impressive that this phone can definitely be used for professional work. Hate it or like it Apple is doing an insane job on photography and video
I doubt a 1” sensor, I can see it being a 1/1.3” CMOS sensor similar to their Air 3 & Mini 4 pro camera specs. Either way I will be picking up a Pocket 3 for behind the scenes when my iPhone is taking photos/videos.
Iphones are getting very very strong, and can almost compare to cinema cameras. Even though the Fx30 APS-C is not the best camera out there. But you can clearly see the unnatural oversharped look on the Iphone, as in any other Smartphone camera. It is something that makes you see the bigest difference and one may say IPhone oversharp look looks "amateur", wile the Pro cam looks "cinematic"
I am using a Samsung S23 Ultra, still this video was very cool for me. I already knew that smartphones are still not as good as a real camera but I think they are amazing good for an amateur like me. Also i think these Freewell lenses are a great thing for me
I don't know why people when they using Samsung they need to shout out to the world that they have Samsung I know it's the best phone ever in world it can be superzoom camera but i don't want to know in the comment on TH-cam or some social media. It's make me disgusting to Samsung fans.
Could you please do a comparasion to show quality differences between h265, applelog, and so on? Everyone who want to use this are intrested in this but no one on TH-cam has done it get.
I shot with the A7SIII and the iPhone 15 Pro and there is no problem for me, I thought that the IP15 has better noise than the Sony, I use the Blackmagic app...
I am an Android user and I never think of leaving Android. I am currently shooting all my videos on my TH-cam channel with a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Its performance is tremendous, especially in a well-lit studio and in daylight, but its low light performance is poor, so I'm thinking of buying a new device. While reviewing cameras, the models I looked at were always flagship devices. But I was personally disappointed to see that they were at very similar levels. Because having the phone in my pocket at all times and being able to take photos and videos at any time, being practical and lightweight is a great advantage. I am currently impatiently waiting to see what kind of camera the S24 Ultra model will have, and while I was wondering whether I should buy the DJI Osmo Pocket, I was saddened to see that even with its 1 inch sensor, its performance was worse than the phone, except for night and low light performance. I'm still on the phone. Even though I wanted to change it, I couldn't see a camera that would say take me.
Basically it’s almost exactly the same except for the 4K 120p mode and slightly better ultra-wide. But I’ll be doing some video about the 16 pro max for sure) so stay tuned)
I think you forgot one metric. The 10bit HDR from the iPhone. It brings in window exposure while keeping interior bright with contrasty colors. Try to replicate the look with the Sony. Try it on a bright day. I think you'll be surprised.
Thank you for the very informative video. I still have one question. As far as I know, both 1x and 2x modes of the main sensor use 12 MP, so that in both cases a native 4K video is created. So the only difference should be that the pixels in 1x mode due to the binning of the sensor are significantly larger than when crop into the unbinned 48 MP in 2x mode. That resulting in better low-light behavior than in 2x mode. Do I see this correctly and does this alone also explain the fact that despite the same resolution, the 2x mode image contains less detail? Hope my english is understandable enough.
Could you compare iPhone 15 pro with some cheaper cameras? I'm looking device for subject photography using lightbox. For a few years I've been shooting small products with budget Xiaomi phones, quality is "normal", but my online store is accepted. But I want more quality. So can iPhone give me comparable quality to a regular camera at a similar iPhone price?
if im a camera company ill probably be very worried now. The camera market is going to be very very niche. The convenience of an iPhone is crazy shoot edit film share all on one device that fits in your pocket. And now the quality is almost indistinguishable for the everyday joe. But if you’re watching this video you’re probably a pixel peeper. 😂
can you do some extreme overheating tests with the iphone? would be cool to see with a case, usb c hub, monitor, power.. under the sun or in a cool enviroment. Thanks
Rip compact cameras 2025 when phones gets a good 1 inch sensor and not fixed aperture. Is there any way to colourmatch the iphone 15 to Fx30 100% easy way ?
Although compact cameras have a trick up their sleeve, tripod screw support, removable battery (For instant recharges) mechanical buttons, and quite a few are also cheaper. Phones may be getting fairly good especially on the software end but there is still plenty of benefits to a dedicated camera even if its a small one. The main purpose of a phone will always be the phone function, and all of the other tools it has.
REAL CAMERAS HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY! People making videos for a living have more options...I have a FX30 and will get a FX3...I will get an iphone 15 pro max for my personal use and for some extra shots if needed, but the money making cameras will not go away. Nope...I'm sure we'll see even movies shot with iphone 15 soon...sure..why not...
I love your tests and comparisons. They are so good and detailed. I hate it when the author is showing himself and speaking like crazy during 90% of the time, and in the meantime, we have just a few very quick shots where you can barely see anything. About the test… ProRes log footage is definitely a game-changer for the iPhone. Although i don't think anybody would choose it as a b-cam. It just doesn't make sense. In this price point, you better pick up the Sony A6700. The iPhone is good as your on-hand camera. But still, it is so nice to watch such a comparison :) iPhone does a really great job!
@@NOlimitsON well im was not talking about your video but everyone is in this trend that i think is totally illiterate. Comparing two things that cannot be compared is totally useless
Would you use iPhone 15 Pro Max as a B camera in Apple LOG?
#iphone15promax #sonyfx30 #iphone15provssonyfx30
in lit setup, solid B cam in a pinch, the main problem would be that you can't use it as a phone

iPhone vs Pro and expensive camera and you need crop to 500% to see the difference? How many people watch movies or videos at 500% crop?
I’m cropping in just to show the difference more clearly, because TH-cam compresses the video a lot.
You should immediately compare the iPhone 15 pro camera with the Dji pocket 3, especially in low light conditions.
I plan on doing so) as soon as the pocket 3 is available

I showed it in the vid - it’s super-distorted with 0.5x lens. With 1x or 2x it’s fine though

iPhone need to be set to f/4.0 to match f/2.8 on APS-C crop sensor, as the iPhone's aperture simulation is full frame.
I guess it’s closer to f8 or f11 in terms of background blur
iPhone main camera sensor is around 3,5x cropped compared to full frame. iPhone need f/0.8 to match f/2.8 on full frame.
