    Body & facial hair were considered the hieght of virility in the 60s & 70s. Also as someone just pointed out, the jokes are funnier if you're familiar with the Bond franchise. Example: the name Alotta Vagina is a spoof of a Bond girl from the old films named Pussy Galore.

    Some of what you call "dad jokes" are usually called "one liners". The James Bond movies are full of them and the Austin Powers movies make fun of that and a lot of other elements from them, like the villain that throws shoes, is directly inspired by a James bond villain who throws a very sharpened hat as if it was a Frisbee.

    The woman called 'alotavagina' was spoofing how the bond films often had the bond girls with double entendre names like 'xenia onatopp, honey ryder, pussy galore, plenty o'toole'. The Austin Powers I think were also responsible for why the Daniel Craig Bond films became more serious in tone as the parody made the pre-Craig films seem silly.

    (For more Elizabeth Hurley roles, she was in the "Bedazzled" Remake with Brendan Frazer, The "My Favorite Martian" Remake, Marvel's Runaways on Hulu, The Royals on E!, and the early 2000's Samson and Delilah. She's been working since the mid 80's to now, and she's 55 currently and still gorgeous, like more fit and tone than she ever was!)

    "Random Task" is a satire of the James Bond evil henchman named "Odd Job" from the movie Goldfinger. In that movie he looked just like the same actor, but the bowler hat he wore had a razor sharp edge, and he threw it at people to kill them.

    • @brianjones7907
      @brianjones7907 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lazerx1+ Oddjob`s hat does not have a razor sharp edge it has a solid metel edge hence when he throws it at the fleeing Tilly Masterson it hits & breaks her neck the same as it did to the statue at the golf club earlier in the film ...

    Watching the James Bond movies would definitely give you more perspective into a lot of the jokes and the atmosphere and feel of the Austin Powers movies. Alotta Fagina is a take on the very creatively sexual names of the Bond Girls over the years. The most famous of which being from the late great Honor Blackman who played Pussy Galore in Goldfinger (1964).

    During the 90s I was at an all-girls boarding school in the south of England and this was one of our favourite films as we found it so funny (I even bought the soundtrack it was so good).
    I particularly like the way that after a henchman dies you get to see what happens when their families and friends are informed (‘decapitated by an ill-tempered mutated sea bass’) which I always found hilarious. Thanks for reacting to it, glad you enjoyed it.

    So...
    The style used in this movie is very much taken from the 60's, especially the "swinging London". The chesthair is a parody of how most male sex symbols up to the 80's were very hairy (it was Arnold and Jean-Claude that put a stop to that). Mike Myers is Canadian, but he has family from Britain (which is why he does decent accent impressions). The teeth is kind of a joke on the whole "British people have bad teeth" prejudice Americans have (the UK has less cosmetic dental procedures done, so many in the US think that means "bad" teeth and not "normal teeth like the rest of the planet except for the US"). The opening song is a classic 1960 song called "Soul Bossa Nova" by Quincy Jones.

    Great reaction! I was 16 in 1997 and saw this film in the cinemas and was just amazed by it. It still makes me feel really nostalgic, since this is sort of a time capsule of the mid- and late- 90s because they were deliberately contrasting the period with the 'Swinging Sixties'.
