THANK YOU for posting this. So many new players get caught up in the parse dummy mindset, where they are so overfocused on gear and hitting a magic number that they come out feeling like they suck in a regular trial. I have been playing for years and years, and would MUCH rather have someone who knows the mechs and understands the actual battle situation (mobile, stationary, always running fight, mobs or single boss) than just thinking they pick up the gear du jour and become instant sweaty.
A lot of that is that so many guilds require parses to run with the guild in trials and vet content. They know that they will never get in unless they worrk on the dummy for hours to get a good parse. Then they get into content and all the moving parts come into play and their combat metrics are bad and they get told to go back to the dummy again and feel all hurt because they were called out. It's a bad cycle.
This is such an important video to take out the illusion that many players, including myself, have or have had. I used to be extremely disappointed in my own performance because I watched videos of people like Alcast and I saw my stats were WAY better than his (I'm talking 2k more weapon and spell damage, higher crit, higher penetration), but my damage output was diabolically lower than his in every one of his parse clips. Because no one bothers to tell you this.
Glad to see you cover this Deltia. The other consideration for running these sets in live trials is also player skill level as I feel this also gets lost in translation from the "Top" trials groups to the average player. The reason guys can run these sets is because in most cases they have mastered content so they can afford to drop health etc.
Very true. My trick is not caring and just hopping into regular trials groups just to do them. No one notices my DPS sucks! Or at least they don't call me on it. It's OK to just float around the middle somewhere in the numbers. Just don't be the bottom performer. ;p
This was so validating to watch. I've been feeling like I'm the only person who watches percentages rather than dps numbers. People don't even know what I'm talking about when I ask what their percentage usually is in trials or dungeons. I find it gives me a far more accurate read on how good I am as a player than just the flat dps stats that fluctuate so much depending on group sets and buffs.
This is a great topic. There is much that ESO does not share with players. It's great to have an experienced veteran player dismantle the nuts and bolts of the games hidden secrets. If you want to go from casual to intermediate, to proficient, this is a welcome understanding. Thanks Deltia. Hope to see more like this.
Very good explanation of endgame groups that newish players don't understand. As a trial lead im not just looking at the highest parse when recruiting dps. A high parse just gets you a chance to tryout with the team. Pov's are the best tool for evaluating talent. I dont want to sound elitist. I owe it to the rest of the team who have worked hard themselves to be better to put the best possible people around them. This level of teamwork is very rewarding. We are all doing our little part to succeed as a group. The biggest mistake newer players make is thinking " I can parse high I deserve clears and to be on these teams." Much more to endgame teams then high parses. I have taken folks with lower parses on the dummy because I watch them in content and they can play. Something else that doesn't get mentioned. As a dps it's just not about parsing high and staying alive. You should also try to mitigate as much damage as possible. This allows these powerful endgame supports to debuff and buff more. But if you are taking damage you shouldn't( yes they will keep you alive) but then they can't do thier main job endgame..... turn the fight into a dummy parse or as close to it for maximum dps.
When I started an end gamer told me to always run a heal a shield on back bar for starting trials because dead dps is no dps, and I have ever since. Excellent explanation on what hitting a dummy compared to actual content is all about 💪♥️
Being in a less organized or pug group as well as dealing with the actual fight mechanics and not a dummy that stands still doing nothing is more than enough to slash anyone's dps.

Then i realized you don't even need all that dps, so I kinda stopped using the parse dummy for builds. Have you watched the video at all? Trial dummy is for trial optimized setups, vet trials actually as no one is really gonna be minmaxing normal trials that's just overkill. Soloing WBs is only a good way to determine how well can you play solo, not how can you perform in a trial. Soloing is opposite of coordinated trial run. So you're performing well for solo player, but losing potential in vet trials.

When it comes to builds, be it from you or another person, I always use it as a baseline as to what a class _can_ do. Since I'm mostly solo and PUG, I don't really expect to see huge DPS numbers since I don't have that endgame gear or others with that gear. Glad you pointed this out. When I look at sets I always look at how good it’s going to be solo. Most of us are solo questing and killing world bosses ect. Grinding gear to use or sell
Relequens is now known as the Liar's set for me. Everyone told me to use it, but I find out Nobody's using it in content... They are lying about their parse and to their team. It's great for parsing, but not much else.
You must only do fights where it's not good then. Any single target fight where ads dont need to be focused it can and is optimal in. Just because it's not used in AOE heavier fights doesn't mean it's just a dummy set
This makes sense. As a console player it’s hard for me to gauge what good damage is. Back in 2020 I was told on console that 70k dps is considered good. But I read online posts saying people are hitting 100k+ on consoles on the trial dummy. Honestly I’ve given up I feel like there’s a lot of misinformation and I can’t tell the good info from the bad. I 100% agree with this video, your not realizing your full potential in a PUG vs a coordinated trial group.
Also good to note. Dont run medium armor in 4 man group unless you're actually built to sustain for it and your group has enough pen. If you're using mostly magic, just stick with a standard light armor setup to sustain and hit pen
I'm actually a goober. For the longest time, I used to be very casual, and have gotten into build making and DPS parsing only recently for higher end content. I had absolutely NO IDEA that there was an actual difference between target dummies. I had one dummy in my house that I somehow got and kept blasting him with a perfect meta build for like 24k dps. Popped food, buffs, potions and went on a trial dummy yesterday to find out that I do like triple the damage with an imperfect rotation. This restored so much hope for me and I had no idea about there being a difference in the dummies at all. It also helped me realize that even a goofy oakensould build that I used to run and thought was bad is actually much better than I thought and definitely more than enough for solo content. Very helpful and eye opening for people like me who are completely clueless about these things
Took some time away but I’ve been a general part of the endgame community for quite some time. Lots of things aren’t really secrets, it more tends to be that so few people actually want to know them. At this current moment a lot of people and I mean A LOT like to use oakensoul. Oakensoul as a whole generally underperforms when compared to better players in proper gear in content. Now, that doesn’t mean that oakensoul doesn’t help lower level players enter more easily into higher level content, but it also doesn’t mean that oakensoul solves all problems. When I’ve taught players and was being taught, mechanics were stressed above all else. Once the mechanics are down, everything else, including not dying, becomes easy enough for you to be able to do proper damage, or simply your role in general. I’m a tank main personally, and it took me a bit to get every mech down. Now that it’s been well over 3 years though since I began learning, I only struggle, and only for a brief period until I once again learn the mechs, to do newer / harder content. As such, I’ve been able to get many titles and trifectas and am overall happy with where I am. I can’t stress enough though, that I asked for this. I was drilled hard, made to learn from my mistakes, and got chewed out over and over again until I got it. Most people don’t seem to want this, or ask for it. I wish more did… especially tanks lol. I’d love to actually train some more people to tank properly again.
I love it lol, vet content can be so brutal and while I do stick with dungeons with my friends over vet trials, when they say we should run this on normal first my words are "Normal doesn't teach you anything"
@@Robert-pt2jz "Normal doesn't teach you anything" this is so true. When I came back to the game last August, I was actually surprised that almost every trial guild I was on (even those with clears on vet HM) had normal mode as training runs. Look, normal mode can be good if you're a guild who is not really score pushing and are ok with gear that are not perfected. It is not for training. The problem with most guilds and players these days is they expect a clear the first time around. When trials is suppose to be a progression. Just because those guilds that completed those new trials a day after it launched doesn't mean they didn't play it for hours and hours for weeks and weeks during the PTS. Of course they did. So believe me when I say this when that new trial launched, they came prepared.
As a new player since January and having a hard time catching up to my guild trial runners, this video explains so much! Does it make it better No but at least I understand it’s not just me. However a lot of that gear mentioned you can’t get easily, which I love but damn.
As an end gamer Deltia is right! But dont let that deter you. There is a point to parsing but the percentage you do in that group in that situation is what matters. End gamers practice like crazy!!!! Always remember its a team effort in trials and dungeons and if your doing everything right but its not getting the results you are not the one to blame. You got this!
This was a great video, I’m so far away from top tier and I worry about how my DPS can get up to snuff to join such groups. I had no idea about most of that. The coordination of the top groups is impressive. I nearly always play Pups so I’m with whoever and we don’t all know the dungeons or trials. I won’t beat myself up over my lack of DPS, I don’t have anyone consistently buffing me, and I will work on getting that gear.
You know, I used to think that about myself... That'd I'd never be anything more than the crafter.... The collector of houses... The pugger. Necrom has been out for a couple days... I've already gotten my first vet clear on Sanity's edge. I've got the asylum trifecta aka immortal redeemer. I'm on these teams that run specific sets. Never say never
@@ladyouttatime2127 I play on console so I need to wait for Necrom, I don’t play much, I only have 1 character at 800 CP, a Stamplar, and I like to pull my weight. I usually do the story quests and have finished quite a few zones. I know the story isn’t always great, but I like it.
So what you said about group dungeons, it's the percentage of group damage that you're doing that matters the most and not necessarily how much individual dps you are doing?
Great rant :). the other side of the coin is if, as a DD, you could bring zen_kosh_mk_devric_pa_warmachine_spaulder_brittle. your dps would be 500k afk, on the 7 other DDs that don't add support? :)
Great video explaining things in short amount of time. Shame some people still won't get what you said and have their own interpretations like "relequen is shit" and "parsing is not true for content" stuff like that, but there will always be such cases.
This video was needed a long time ago but thank you. The amount of times iv seen pug groups typeing in zone chat need dps only 80k damage or over. I use to type bck you got all the right sets to keep my dps up at all time then yes iv got 80+ dps...... No reply 😂😂
I couldn't find a video you made specifically on necromancers, but I have a magica necromancer I would like to be able to have a powerful high damage dealing heavy attack build out, but it's hard to find anything that doesn't include the old console ring. I don't have one, and I really want this build to be used in PVE with a group. Do you have any guides or any place you can direct me to find a good hide damage dealing build out that utilizes heavy attacks?
In PUG dungeons I'm always around the 60% mark, in fact the new necklace mythic has been pushing me to 70% of group DPS in PUG dungeons now.. I do try and spec a lot of these buffs into my build for PUGs thou because you're not guaranteed to get them which is actually one thing you never see people talk about in build videos. Probably because the builds are geared towards end game min/max groups but not everyone plays in those groups. The community needs dungeon/trial DPS builds for PUGs, be optimal in a PUG!
Honestly, when it comes to understanding the overall game trial groups are sort of the enemy, because so much of the information out there focuses on maximizing that one specific end game component and it's such a small part of the actual game. It's just the only part of the game the high-tier end game players care about.
Nice video. I just got back into ESO about a month ago but I have about 2k hours on Xbox NA. My StamDK carries just about every daily random veteran dungeon for dps. Idk if I am “good” but I have hit right around 40k dps on a 6m dummy and like 66k on a trials dummy using deadly strikes and relequens. Always looking to improve though!
This is a really important video especially the part when you speak about how you should look at how many damage you do compared to the overall group damage. I did like 55k dps on a parse dummy and i was depressed when i saw that in a vet dungeon i could only pull 25k on the boss. Then i saw that i still did 60% of the group damage the dungeon went fine and i was a little proud of myself. Parse dummys should only be used to compare 2 of your builds to see what the max amount of dps you could pull out from that build. Also Rele is way overrated. Yeah it pulls good damage on the parse dummy but in an actual fight if you have to dodge just one time your stacks will fall off
Glad u mentioned rele. Put up about 10 parse vids on my page yesterday (123-127k ok templar on 300 console ping) to show how overrated rele, nerieneth, and zaans are. And how underrated coral, stormfist, and kjaln are… overall good video for your target audience. Beginner dps that might have missed this concept from a skinny or 8pups vid
The BIG problem is HOW MANY sets of armor is one supposed to have all properly set up and gold and so forth? The most expensive thing in this game is upgrading jewellery to gold and after that gear and weps. There are so many sets of armor and what you see is NOT what you get at all. It is very frustrating. And I am VERY happy to read this. Basically it is NOT possible to benchmark yourself solo. TYVM
Just stop golding everything out. Weapons are the biggest gold to dps gain, always gold. Armor is not that big and neither is jewelry unless you're scorepushing or really want to top parse over someone. Ideally you have a trash setup, cleave fight setup, and st setup as a general setups for trials
Its understandable not many would know this. You only have to do all this organizing for veteran trials and HM. Not even dungeon hm needs it at this level.
While this is true, you should still have some kind of explanation for this from either the game's side, or the guide authors side who use parses as showcases which in turn makes newer players aspire to unattainable numbers or get disheartened to even try improving further when they realise someone dishes out 100k dps more than them even though their stats are equal.
@@ValkynShade it wont be coming from zos, that's for sure. It only affects a small part of the community that I doubt they can justify the cost. As for content creators, some of them do go out of their way to explain. It just that not everyone watches that section. They just skip to gear and rotation. Also, the worst part about it is despite all this valuable info they put together, they get called "toxic" for being a "meta slave."
I'm not exactly the pro-est of them all, but as long as you're not playing Arcanist or running the new necklace mythic, Whorl of the Depths is one of the easiest to proc (light attack every once in a while), with no real Mini-Game to manage. Order's Wrath is a good supplementary set that's easy to obtain (craftable), with no mini game associated with it. Stormfist is a great monster set if you don't wanna think about it too much. Keep in mind that this is a setup for a traditional, 2-bar, light attack weaving build. Heavy Attack focused builds run other things, one bar builds are something entirely else. Then there are builds that focus on specific parts of the kits of different classes. It's very hard to give a "one size fits all" build in a game that has so many options.
I sort of got this before, but what confuses me is people who asking for "minimum 80k dps from each dps" (maybe more like "50k minimum" but roll with it). Are they accounting for the parse dummy, or their own gear sets, or do they mean raw? I can't get that 80k right now, but I'm saying I don't know when I could/should consider that "minimum" met in this example.
It's from parse dummy numbers. Mainly because it's the best "standard" way to measure your ability to keep a rotation and do damage. You'd like an encounter that could provide that (in ye olden days, people would "parse" Bloodspawn in Spindleclutch while a tank held the boss, but that's still not super consistent). They ask for specific numbers because some encounters have a timer, or just to limit the group. People have limited time, no one wants to spend 4 hours on a vSS. 100k should be enough to get you through all the trials currently. 80k would limit you to maybe vKA and below.
I actually figured out on my own pretty early on when I 1st got relequin that its not a very good set unless you're beating on one target for a long period. The trial dummy is overrated, I only use the 3m so I know what my actual baseline is. The funny thing is even people that have really good parses on the dummy make changes in content. I have a 110 K on the dummy but now I'm changing a few skills, cp, and using a different food in content.....still gonna claim i pull 110k on that build thpugh lol
I hope this opens people's eyes cuz there are to many try hard solo minmaxers thinking they can do everything just cuz they can hit a pars dummy. and expect everyone to do the same when there all wearing the "Same meda carap" and not gearing to play as a group.
I need help I been playing this for years and really love this game. But all of this technical stuff is like Chinese to me. I just don't understand it. I'd be playing pvp in the imperial city and I can't really do any damage to players and they take me out with just a couple hits. I have 800 champion points. I'm using a bow. Someone told me that max stamina determines how much damage I do with a bow. I tried messing around with different sets. But I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Could you explain what I might be doing wrong and what I should look for?
Im a ps5 eso player, let me tell you that Ive tried to stick to my role. Im not even that high on champion points (1000 cp), let me tell you that whenever Im playing my role (healer), my team sucks ass at DPS and it takes FOREVER to kill bosses. I try and try, but now I play a bit of a hybrid with more dps than heals.
Why is this sad? Working together as a group, coordinating to improve group performance ain't sad. It's surely making the game more complex. But do you want a game which has no depth to it at all where everyone just throws on the exact same gear pressing the same few buttons to hit near god mode and that's it?
This is why I don't dummy hump... It tells you nothing really. That and its tedious AF. I used to use Relequin but I find Witch Knight and Deadly better for my Templar in Trials. Please repeat the Tanks and Healers don't need to do DPS loudly and on repeat. I had a few idiots in dungeons try to get in my face because my healer wan't pulling 40k. Fools.
I hate when I go to heal people in a dungeon using all my buff sets and their dps is still trash. Or when I'm fake tanking doing 60% of the damage while still in heavy armor and using taunts. Smh some people just don't get it.
I just came back to ESO after about a year and half hiatus from it. I parsed 40k on a trial dummy. Is the rule of thumb still half that and that's your parse on 3 or 6 mil dummy? Please no disrespect. My sets are maelstroms bow, storm fist, briarheart and hundings.
Right? Console is SEVERELY lacking in useful tools to see performance. The only one provided (parse dummy) doesn't even fully work, as it still doesn't account for Whorl damage.
I mean the video is good for people who don't know this yet. But I don't get the part where you say everyone tells anyone to play Relequen. Even the lesser good builds usually include a trash setup... Never seen anyone in this game using Relequen in trash or talking about it :D
OMG THANK YOU! ❤️ No question, your best video! EVERY ESO player would have to watch it! Then Can their ass and move on to a open minded individual who will. You must only do fights where it's not good then. Any single target fight where ads dont need to be focused it can and is optimal in. Just because it's not used in AOE heavier fights doesn't mean it's just a dummy set
There are definitely fights where Rele is used. Optimised groups will make adjustments per fight as well.
Awesome tips in a concise package! Glad you approve your message!
dxdropz here, i am glad i was able to come up with the question that you could use as an explanation also for others, you nailed it!
@@Robert-pt2jz I don't believe normal should be run first ever. I was taught the same, as on normal mechs never even happen half the time.
This video was long overdue, great video 👍
i needed to hear this. im not trash, they are
As a new player since January and having a hard time catching up to my guild trial runners, this video explains so much! Does it make it better No but at least I understand it’s not just me. However a lot of that gear mentioned you can’t get easily, which I love but damn.
That’s my next stage of the game. Understand what the group needs
Simply amazing content man. Happy 2024!
Wow! Thank you very much for making this video. I cannot wait to see if you make a video on this subject with regards to how it can help us in PvP.
Could you do a video just on best "set and forget" sets (magicka and stamina) for dungeons and trials?
As an end gamer Deltia is right! But dont let that deter you. There is a point to parsing but the percentage you do in that group in that situation is what matters. End gamers practice like crazy!!!! Always remember its a team effort in trials and dungeons and if your doing everything right but its not getting the results you are not the one to blame. You got this!
My leads make sure we have a good composition of classes/skills/sets. And we're reminded when to switch between trash and boss setups.
Shame some people still won't get what you said and have their own interpretations like "relequen is shit" and "parsing is not true for content" stuff like that, but there will always be such cases.
love the outro
All true!!! 🎉
Honestly, when it comes to understanding the overall game trial groups are sort of the enemy, because so much of the information out there focuses on maximizing that one specific end game component and it's such a small part of the actual game. It's just the only part of the game the high-tier end game players care about.
Which polymorph is that? Looks so amazing Deltia
Am i weird for not wanting to be part of a midmax trial? Tho ill definitely keep teamwork armor in mind for myself.
How is coral riptide underrated? It's literally the best dps set in the game right now
@@fenharel2137 vast majority of end gamers dont use it on xbox. Especially dks bc pillagers+ulti gives them too much sustain.
@@ColbyCadwellthat's like the one class that can't, unfortunately it's also the meta dd in a lot of raid compositions
Agreed. I almost never gold out jewelry, except for some of the support sets that I know will never, ever go away.
Where is that outfit from
Tidal Wave from endeavors.
I've run a few trial and been happy pulling 10-14% of the DPS , dungeon always like 60-70%
4:25 % percentage doesn't determine if your a good player or not, finding a good build that works from streamers like yourself determines that! :D
hey dude could you pls explain how to show the % damage like you have it at 4:00 pls? :)
that would be the bandits user interface addon
I'd argue Nefas is one of the main contributors to the problem XP
What are some sets you would recommend for 4 man vet dungeons?
TLDR - Welcome to trial group composition 101.
They want to prove you have some knowledge of your class in a game. They mean after a 21 million parse dummy 100% to 0 what is your DPS.
I wish I had have found your channel earlier
I actually figured out on my own pretty early on when I 1st got relequin that its not a very good set unless you're beating on one target for a long period. The trial dummy is overrated, I only use the 3m so I know what my actual baseline is. The funny thing is even people that have really good parses on the dummy make changes in content. I have a 110 K on the dummy but now I'm changing a few skills, cp, and using a different food in content.....still gonna claim i pull 110k on that build thpugh lol
I have been saying this for years!
Thank you!!
I hate that dang trial sparring target!
Please use non trial sparring targets pls??!! Please!!??
I hope this opens people's eyes cuz there are to many try hard solo minmaxers thinking they can do everything just cuz they can hit a pars dummy. and expect everyone to do the same when there all wearing the "Same meda carap" and not gearing to play as a group.
What armor set is he wearing?
I need help I been playing this for years and really love this game. But all of this technical stuff is like Chinese to me. I just don't understand it. I'd be playing pvp in the imperial city and I can't really do any damage to players and they take me out with just a couple hits. I have 800 champion points. I'm using a bow. Someone told me that max stamina determines how much damage I do with a bow. I tried messing around with different sets. But I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Could you explain what I might be doing wrong and what I should look for?
for once i have to say THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great explanation. I myself don't really agree with parsing. Players wear gear and eat food that they're not going to use for the actual event.
I mean some good vet trails groups do more dmg then the 21m dummy like 50k to 100k more I believe
Mmos, the few games where it really isnt you, its your team
What is that polymorph your wearing
Tidal Wave from endeavors.
Love this. Extremely true and sad to see.
Totally agree, Very sad😢
Why is this sad? Working together as a group, coordinating to improve group performance ain't sad. It's surely making the game more complex. But do you want a game which has no depth to it at all where everyone just throws on the exact same gear pressing the same few buttons to hit near god mode and that's it?
And I approve this dmg
Don’t forget peeps also don’t stand in one place while the enemy doesn’t attack you in trials and dungeons…
Well said.
Fools.
lol “barely coordinating warhorns” yeah thats me
I hate when I go to heal people in a dungeon using all my buff sets and their dps is still trash. Or when I'm fake tanking doing 60% of the damage while still in heavy armor and using taunts. Smh some people just don't get it.
also not to mention "100k min dps groups when i can clear with a great group that does it without drama and know mechs*
what outfit is that?
Tidal Wave I bought with endeavors.
I wish you could see these stats on console
Right? Console is SEVERELY lacking in useful tools to see performance. The only one provided (parse dummy) doesn't even fully work, as it still doesn't account for Whorl damage.
I think rele can actually apply to multiple enemy's if your light attack with a 2h weapon or?
Nope.
No because that damage comes from 2h passive.
Deltia drops [Knowledge Bomb]
Player is crit for 450,590 damage.
I watch for your vocabulary lol love you hilarious ahah 💯💯💯❤️ noodle ! Or are u a noodle Ahhahahaha
I mean the video is good for people who don't know this yet. But I don't get the part where you say everyone tells anyone to play Relequen. Even the lesser good builds usually include a trash setup... Never seen anyone in this game using Relequen in trash or talking about it :D
🔥👀
DING!
OMG THANK YOU! ❤️
No question, your best video! EVERY ESO player would have to watch it! Honestly, that's why most people go to my nuts and lick that make build videos and understand nothing about ESO. They always only spoken of the most DPS. But that's not true at all. Most DPS on Dammy alone is not enough and NOT MOST DPS!!! ALL good players have so many sets, our chests are full to the brim ☝️😂😂
They're*
I like your videos Deltia, but be careful out there in the sun my guy!
LOL I wear sun screen.
Nice.
who is "they"?
i was hoping you'd mention Perfect Weave addon. a tool that most people in end game use but no one talks about.
I see soooooo mamy people saying " oH ThAtS WhY i DoNt pIcK HiGh pArSe PlAyErS foR mY gUiLd" or thats why i vet players or this is why im the bestest bests player im the entire world to ever live. How about instead of "vetting " players based of their build and possibly turning down some of the best and most fun teammates to be around. You hop of your high horse and share this info. Teach a potentially great heavily dedicated player how to do better. Share this video with them!!!! I dont wanna hear "oh some people dont wanna learn". Then Can their ass and move on to a open minded individual who will. Its there own fault they wanna be ignorant, but i can bet my bottom dollar there are PLENTY of good players out there that are willing to learn. Im also gonna wager they are most fun to play with. Your super best in the world elitist are probably mad bossy and boring to play with anyway. Most still get rolled by a team of noobs aswell.😂😂 so you go vet those players and continue to have a dead guild running solo.
Unless your doing random normal pug dungeons then tanks need to taunt and healers probably out dps the dps
