Apologies everyone. Despite knowing who I was talking about, I still made a mistake with a couple of names. The composer is John Debney and the cinematography is by J Michael Muro

Hi! I really enjoyed Horizon. I saw it in the cinema yesterday. I enjoyed it’s going macro and then micro into the various parts of this story.

Thanks for this video (and for avoiding spoilers), it's good to get your take on this movie amid all the talk of it. Costner always seems to do a great job with the old west. I personally rate Open Range as perhaps the best Western of modern times - I even prefer it to Unforgiven. His relationship with Robert Duvall in it, is one of the best two-handers in all Westerns. Satisfying all round with a blistering final shoot-out that sounds fantastic. . I also think Wyatt Earp is very good, especially on rewatching it, it may plod a little but it's a rich world that he portrays and takes its time and draws you in.. I'll be giving Horizon a go for sure. All the best.

Thanks very much. A heavy heart yesterday hearing that chapter 2 will not now be released in August as chapter 1 has not performed well. I really hope the remaining chapters can get made and get theatrical releases. Looks like you may be able to stream chapter 1 from next week but I found it a great movie theatre experience

Thank you for talking about this new film and for not giving any spoilers away! I do want to see it. My local newspaper's chief film critic, who also is the instructor for most of my film classes, gave it 2 1/2 stars in his review on Sunday, but I haven't read it yet. Kevin Kostner is a great screen hero and I've liked many of his films, including Open Range and Dances With Wolves. Wyatt Earp was a little ponderous. But then I'm also not a fan of Unforgiven, which is a really popular film. (Blasphemy, I know!) The running time is a little daunting, but, yeah, I do want to see this in the theater. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, Neil!

Hi Mike. For sure I could say a few negative things about it but that’s for another time. Right now I’m just glad I didn’t let the negative reviews dissuade me. I have seen two other new release movies this weekend in the theatre (which are getting much more attention) and Horizon was the best time I had out of the three. It actually feels exciting now to know that I can spend more time with all these characters in August. I really hope chapters 3 and 4 can go into production

I saw Horizon and I loved this movie!! I think it’s a shame people cannot understand this movie!! Kevin believes in what he is doing and has worked so hard to make this movie! The people of this country need to be more supportive of this movie because that’s the way it was !! I am looking forward to to watching the rest of the Horizon series . God Bless you Kevin. Keep your head high ! Horizon will find its way!!! I too Believe !♥️♥️🌹

Glad you enjoyed the movie Neil, like you i was in two minds about going to see it, I think studio's need to take a good hard look into time length's between cinema and streaming now, way to short at the moment.

Hi Neil, I’m trying my best to get to see this but life keeps throwing up obstacles 😬 I’m a huge Kevin Costner fan and love a good western. It sounds like it’s one to see on the big screen, you have put my mind to rest as I have read a few negative views on the film. Nice one Neil, take care mate👍😃👍

Hi Alan. Yes, I heard from your latest video that you have a lot on right now. Hope the family wedding goes well. For sure I could say a few negative things about the movie but for the most part I had a great time seeing it on the big screen.

I do really enjoy traditional westerns and I didn't really know much about this release. It's one that I will definitely have to think about now.

Great discussion Neil! I'm sure your thought processes reflect what a lot of people run through as to whether they go and see a film at the cinema, particularly, will this just be on streaming soon! Really glad to hear you enjoyed it, and I'm certainly looking forward to watching it on the big screen when I can. The reviews seem to be all over the place, which to be honest always makes me more excited to watch something. Having got so into Westerns last year, this new on has come at the perfect time for me. I actually recently bought Dances with Wolves as I've never seen it, and I also picked up Open Range which I haven't seen since it came out, so plenty of Costner on the 'horizon' for me.

Thanks, Warren. I wanted to say a few words as in this case it’s not just the thought of theatre vs streaming but the fact that this is an episodic saga to watch at the cinema. I’m really glad that the negative reviews didn’t dissuade me…..Dances with wolves was hugely impactful when I saw it at the cinema, I love it. I hope you enjoy it. Another one that is long but even so the extended cut is well worth seeing

Hi Neil, Thank you for an interesting video on a western. It sounds intriguing, but westerns aren't my favorite genre. I seldom go see movies anymore, partly the cost and I don't enjoy going alone either. Very glad that you enjoyed it and didn't even clock watch! Hope you have a great week!

I am going to watch it in the theater, because to me the theater is the best way to see a movie. The price of going to theaters are higher, and fellow movie goers can be annoying but its still the best way to see a movie in my opinion. I think Costner made these for movie lovers and not people who want to stay on their phones during movies or people who worry about runtimes. Hopefully part 3 and 4 get made.

So cool to hear a UK perspective. I love Kevin Costner Westerns (I even consider 'The Postman' to be one) and was wondering how this could possibly play over here, with it being so ultra long and old fashioned. Unfortunately my screening had soft focus, which I knew the theatre wouldn't know how to fix, so I just suffered through it and STILL loved it. For anyone who thinks it is politically regressive, it's just a different viewpoint. The west was rough. Men and women did what they had to do to survive. There were atrocities on both sides of the battle for territory. European settlers were in the wrong, but this is their story (at least so far).

There been filming Chapter 3 since May 13th. Chapter 4 is in development. All 4 movies will be released. It's a 11 hour epic release in 4 Chapters. It's definitely getting made. There been filming all of them back to back.

Hi Stuart. Westerns like this don’t come along often so it will be worth forcing yourself. It’s not pulling in the crowds so I’m sure you can find a quiet seat

Hi. Yes, it does seem to be although I’m not entirely sure just how far he has got with it. A lot must surely ride on having funding just as say Villeneuve didn’t get the green light for Dune Part 2 until part 1 had a strong opening at the box office. Fingers crossed we get the whole thing . Thanks for commenting

@@neilsmoviechannel3199 When a studio is funding you are absolutely correct however, Kevin is using his own money and I'm sure a few other sources but he is doing most of the funding himself. So much so he had a family meeting with his children to make sure they were alright with it (as it would be their inheritance).

I enjoyed it critics be damned. I don't understand why Costner chose to film it in a miniseries style though rather than make three separate stand alone films, as we are clearly watching three different stories. He could then tie them together in a fourth movie perhaps? The running time would be kept to under two hours per film and attract a wider audience. I think it is a huge marketing blunder.

    • @neilsmoviechannel3199
      @neilsmoviechannel3199  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

Hi. Glad you enjoyed it. I wouldn’t say it’s a marketing blunder as it’s a clear strategy to make an epic, multi-stranded story and it’s named in “chapters” rather than “parts”. This “chapter” is a lot of scene setting and establishing characters. Definitely a gamble as the funding will need to be there to finish the project. I hope more people can embrace the fact that it’s not a stand alone movie with a natural end point, you have to have a willingness to go on to the next chapter. Of course the natural argument will be that something this episodic should be on the small screen but I for one loved spending these first three hours in this big screen environment. Thanks for commenting

this looked interesting to me and I love Costner but the fact that its three hours and I gotta go see part 2 and then wait for 3 and 4, im not sure.
