I remember liking this show, but not a lot of details about it. I did remember the titular character being recast, though.

If you haven't seen it, the tv show Sable (1987-1988 - starring Lewis Van Bergen) was interesting and odd. Also, the Knight-Rider-esque show with the 'super bike' that was connected to an A.I., and lets NOT forget 'Automan' (1983-1984 - starring Chuck Wagner) (These weren't Disney though)

The first and original Black Savage was played by StoneyJackson and they re-casted him with Steven Williams.

The change of cast members between the pilot episode and the TV series is why it mostly failed, the new actor they got for Black Jack Savage was older and kind of lazy, not nearly as energetic as the original actor from the pilot. I was nine years old watching this on TV and I liked the snappy, snarky dialogue between the characters. My father managed to record it on VHS at the time and I haven't watched it in decades, still has the commercials recorded with it too, I should upload it to TH-cam sometime . . . someone should do an anthropomorphic animated parody of the show, it would be like Tailspin cartoon but more grounded, figuratively and literally.

Absolutely agreed. I thought the first actor was great and his replacement was disappointingly flat and, well, lifeless. Please do upload the pilot, especially with the commercials intact. It would be a great trip down memory lane. Not to mention those tapes aren't going to last forever.

This series was very interesting. I think it flopped when they replaced Stoney Jackson with Steven Williams. If they'd kept Stoney Jackson the series would have been a continuing hit.

It was like "Thunder In Paradise" with a wisecracking black ghost and some rich dude. Pretty enjoyable. Now if we can get a series that combines the best element of Babylon 5, Columbo and Bosom Buddies. That's a show.

Liked this show as a kid. It reminded me of a more insane version of Disney's "Blackbeard's Ghost." Still a fun idea for a serves. Give it some Lovecraftian elements, and it could make for an entertaining series today.

This makes me think of Disney’s other attempt at a TV action series; this time in syndication. Thunder in Paradise, starring Hulk Hogan and a tricked out speedboat. A lot of ‘foreign locations’ were shot in the World Showcase in EPCOT.

    • @theothervault
      @theothervault  ปีที่แล้ว

TiP wasn't a Disney production, but it was definitely shot all over Disney World (which is WILD to think about). You're definitely right that it's impossible to look past the similarities between this and Black Jack Savage!

@@theothervault going through IMDB more thoroughly, trying to find if maybe it was Touchstone, Disney’s experiment in branding more mature films that were to ‘hard’ for the Disney/Buena Vista crowd. Could find producers but not a production company. But I found in the reviews where it was filmed largely at Disney-MGM studios and on location at various Disney World properties. And that it’s a rarity for that from a non-Disney production. My mistake then. Thank you for responding and clearing it up for me.

It was trying to be a reboot of "Blackbeard's Ghost". I say remake the original with Dwayne Johnson as Blackbeard and Kevin Hart is the track coach who's the only person who can see Blackbeard.

Let's see; a rich guy purchasing a castle that turns out to be inhabited by a supernatural being, and an action show with a hitech speed boat involved with in a Disney show. Two shows come to mind now with recycled ideas; gargoyles and thunder in paradise. Both were Disney shows. Disney really loved to recycle ideas and characters in other projects. For example; the jungle book animals in both Robin Hood, and tail spin.

I wonder if the boat is still rotting away on a Disney backlot? We were shown the scale model with Eisner's intro. There was a full scale version which was 100% real. The engines were in the pods at the wingtips. Very revolutionary design, a reversal of the typical 3 point hydroplane. The pics of the backlot boat appear to be missing part of the hull behind the cockpit. There's steel tube framing and it's on a trailer or built onto it. Has me thinking that was used on land or towed through shallow water for close up shots of people in the boat.
So where's the scale model and the real full size boat?

I remember some thing weird from my childhood that had "Black Jack" in the title it had to be from in or before the 80s not the 90s and I don't think it was this. im trying to recall its full name. I only remember the hero got turned in to a toy and the toy broke and that made the hero die and Im not even shore that any of the things I said actually happened. But there was a movie that existed and it went away and I never saw it more then once and it was fun until the hero's death traumatized me. With how weird this is, it could have been that but I FEEL like my memory lands closer to 83

I liked the show. I thought it wasn't bad. I remember it didn't last very long. I probably seen most of the episodes. I really like that boat. I think that boat is still in Florida if a hurricane didn't get it. The last pictures I saw the boat was a lil dirty. I remember the ceo of disney introducing the shows each time. Like a more direct approach. Then something changed at the board meetings or something. I thought they fired him. But the ceo didn't leave until 2005.

Avast there matey. Why be there a speedboat? Because it be a piratical show, and no show about a pirate be complete without a fancy ship.
The real trouble comes from the 100 lives. They air seven episodes and are already down to 89 to go? Good thing they cancelled it or they'd have to break their own premise to have a season two. That or give the audience a lot of rum.
