I like the advice I recently heard from a realtor about staging a home -- remove 50%-75% of your stuff. So when people open a cabinet there's space. That gives people the feeling that your house is spacious and has plenty of room for their stuff. It also helps remove your personality from the home so buyers can imagine it as their home. Since the women selling her house has possibly already minimized her possessions, she may be close to doing some good staging.

I´m an architect, and I think that if we live in a well designed house with interesting architecture, great materials and textures, great views......we will not need to fill the space with things, because we will already be satisfied.

Oh Bobby Berk is so uplifting and inspiring. His designs on Queer Eye are so beautiful. I live in a small house, but it can use more simplicity. I have a monthly donation box for Goodwill. I am continuing the process of the Swedish "death cleaning" as so not to burden my children my possessions after I die. Unfortunately my siblings and I had to do exactly that with my parents' semi-hoarded home. Thank you for this podcast. :)

As a college student, my space is extremely important to me. I currently live in a small shared dorm room, but during every break I move everything back home to my old room. In each space I’m in, I have to find a way to feel like it is mine even though it’s not permanent. When my space is temporary, I really focus on what I actually use and enjoy. I hope to carry this on throughout the rest of my adult life.

14:07 Can I also mention here that you can buy nearly new from Craigslist, OfferUp, and other local sale-apps like those to stage your home and then resell those items. That way, you've purchased/thrifted them at a bargain price and by reselling them, you barely lose any money.

Thank you for sharing with us! I think having a smaller space has helped my partner and I declutter and practice minimalism in our 900 Square foot apartment. We've sold over $4,000 worth of items in the last 3 years using Mercari and Poshmark. We could not believe how many possessions we had in our space that was cluttering our own health. We have also donated to Goodwill and charities the items that do not add value to our lives and always say to one another, that item will add value to someone elses life. Next month were cutting cable television and have already began to snowball our debt at 23. Both of us started our full-time careers in the fall of 2019 and were so thankful that Josh and Ryan have helped us practice minimalism and look at what adds value to our living space and our personal lives.

2,500 to 3500 sq. Ft. Sounds huge to me. We are a family of 5 with 1 on the way and we live in a 1043 sq. Ft. House and it feels great. Sometimes I wish the house was like 400 sq.Ft bigger just so the kids could have more room to run around in, and a little more space between the sofa and the dining table 😆, but it’s not a necessity . we have so little it feels a bit bigger. I think we (especially speaking of Americans like myself) grossly overestimate how much we need to be healthy and happy.

    Hi guys,
You had a question about what to do with bookshelves to make them less busy or cluttered looking. I'm an avid reader and I love my books yet I too found my bookcases looking cluttered. They weren't but the colorful jackets were causing stress. My solution, turn them around. Now all I see is the different shades of tan and cream pages. I still know where each book is because I've looked at them enough but my stress I felt looking at the covers is gone. When summer comes around, I may turn them back.

We just got told we have to move suddenly and the new place has a conservatory that is big enough to actually use but we don’t need it. So I thought about what is missing from our life right now? My hubby and I decided to put a workbench in there so we can play together on our various craft projects. That way when he steals all my tools I will still be able to find them 😂

i just feel like sometimes american living standards are ridiculously huge. i lived for more than years in my family home with was 110 square meters, and i never felt like it was too small to live. also, recently properties are just so expensive that young people just can’t afford anything as big, and overpopulation and increase for demand has made the new homes in the market smaller each year.

It's not an aesthetic. Fewer nicer things. Feels less like you're giving something up and moreso curating/ keeping what you love.

Is it possible to stage a house with no furniture at all and pay a digital artist to use a photographic art programme to photoshop furniture and art work in and the occasional real plant or light pendent etc.

DH put everything into storage and talked a bargain furniture store into selling him a decent suite of furniture for $2500. Not too much, not too little, looked really nice, sold fast. We did wind up taking the furniture with us though DH had planned to leave whatever the new homeowner wanted. Donation would have been a good idea and acceptable.

I love the home makeovers where at first it seems a homeless person died in there and the realtors got there before the police. It's a bit absurd to talk about decoration in a show that is about having less of it.

You can have a 3d model of the rooms staged to sell it quicker. You can put the images on boards around the space amd have them on the websites....ps. I can do this. :)
