    I am not a Traxxas fan boy at all actually I hate a Traxxas vehicles but the xmaxx is awesome,...Technically you don't have to buy anything for a new X-Maxx 8s, if the speed control does go bad within a month or six months then you can upgrade it at that point, the new tires are absolutely fine as long as you're not driving like an idiot and letting them round out like crazy, so far my pinion and spur have held up and I've had the truck for a month if they do break then I'll upgrade but none of this has to be done before you leave the hobby shop, some people have bad luck absolutely I believe that....but that goes with every ready to run car. The X-Maxx at least looks and drives like a monster truck The arrma would be awesome but it's not a monster truck it's just a big truggy which is why a lot of people aren't interested in it if they actually made a monster truck I'm sure they would do a wonderful job and probably sell a ton.

    Guys, have anyone ever count how much does both cars cost if you will not but the RTRs, but just buy the parts which You want and assemble them from the scrach? I am thinking about it as it is hard to sell original parts like TRX ESC or Arrma radio and take some sense money. So maybe instead wasting money for the RTR where a lot of parts must be replaced, it will be better to buy parts which are needed and have sth like "kit-version" with already upgraded parts? :D

    I went into LHS looking for the Kraton 8S they didn't have any, but had 1 Xmaxx 8S. Since day 1 pinion problems, self righting one time blew the p&s to bits. Blue locate red loctite, don't matter. I was looking at different pinions in the lhs but thought I may run into what you did in the vid. I'm going to burr or slot the shaft and see how it goes.maybe even the arrma style spur grub with the pin going through. Been setting pinions and mesh for 20+ years, never any problems until this XMAXX. Outside of this and a few other issues which I've already knew about and sorted its an amazing rc. Traxxas needs to have Arrma do their gears, and Arrma needs to have Traxxas do their chassis design. Best bet to get both. For the pinion issue, degrease everything, motor shaft, pinion and set screw. Use something called Loctite bearing retainer on the round side of the shaft, where the set screw isn't, and then slide the pinion on, and use regular loctite for the set screw. The bearing retainer is gap filling, and will secure a bearing (or a pinion) to a shaft without anything else holding it on. I used it on a TRex 250 helicopter for the tail shaft bearings, as well as the pinion for the motor of that same heli. The pinion in that heli had no set screw, not flat side. The bearing retainer was the only thing securing the pinion

  • @JRIPFPV
    @JRIPFPV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I read the other day what i think sounds like a good idea for keeping the pinion on. Grind the end of the set screw that bottoms out on the motor shaft flat. Set screws usually have a little rounded end...i guess if you grind it flat it will give you a better bite on the motor shaft. Don’t know if it will help...but it sounded like a solid idea lol.

    • @grahamnumber7123
      @grahamnumber7123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better still would be metal weld or a well engineered pinion that has to be heated enough for thermal expansion to just get it over the shaft. Once cooled - solid fit from ALL sides and uniformly. Forgot to add, the bite is only better if the mating surfaces have 1) an increased surface area and 2) more friction from being tighter. Problem is that's more stress on the 1 small area (the grub crew and threaded section of the pinion)
      For 2) the only method is to tighten more, but for 1 and 2 without being able to re-engineer the pinion, your method is a good idea.
      By flattening the head (male) into a point of the shaft you make the same shape (a flattened section - female) you increase the contact area of screw and shaft and friction. Your (lol) idea is science and it will help a lot :-) go for it. Because you think, it is a good idea you where capable of coming up with by yourself before you read about it. Just take care not to narrow the shaft by over doing it, you want the minimal material away but flat on flat. Do the start work with a Dremel (I don't have one) for speed but finish with a fine file. The Dremel is a rotary tool and you want as flatter surface as possible and that's why a file is better once you find a way to lock the shaft from spinning! while you work on it. A Dremel is probably the best option when working at 90 degrees to the shaft but you still want to keep it from moving so maybe get the cog on just enough to use the screw to tighten it onto the top of the shaft.
      Also bear in mind this very fast little cog isn't doing the torque work, it's doing the effort work by number of cycles....later stages of the drive train have the torque issues. My answer was over detailed I guess but sometimes you have to trust logic and not other people. It takes confidence to do stunts and tricks with a large mass that is potential energy moving at a great speed that could actually kill you, so have some faith in tinkering your toys to make them better :-) Engineering and science.

    Watch a kevin talbot video. Or almost any kraton 8s video.. bent chassis.. banana,d shocks.. broken arms. Servos. Its like 150$ to upgrade the chassis.. unsure what your issue is with the pinnion. Never seen that before. If yea go watch bashing videos. You would avoid that kraton if u plan on beating it. Unsure why your comparing a truggy with a monster truck

    Still running original 6s xmaxx,never lost pionion,always 17/54,, 6s tires suck. Best tire still traxxas ,lightest is best for all rc. Still original gears to date. Kershaw design wheels make xmaxx handle like kraton,less out of control wheelies. Over size wheel bearings are the must. Still run slipper with 8s gears

    Same issues with all my Traxxas stuff. I gave up on Traxxas - they have cool trucks and innovative ideas in terms of snap on bodies but they also come with typical Traxxas issues - bad electronics, laughable plastic gear servos, pinion always coming lose etc and they’re just not worth it unless you’re going to swap out a lot and at the price they want it’s bogus.

    I think with you being an arrma fanboy almost everything you're saying about the x-max is false except for the pinion and spur gear upgrade to metal instead of plastic and everything you're saying about the Kraton.... Is absolutely ridiculous you damn near have to spend as much on buying a new vehicle in upgrades to make it anywhere comparable to the xmax

    I had the problem with pinion on many of my different RC trucks. For the hell of it I decided to load the pinion screw with red thread locker but before putting the set screw into the pinion I let that threadlocker sit for about a half hour to stiffen it up and thicken it up just a little bit I let it dry and then I installed it and it's still on the truck today I did it to every one of my RC vehicles and I haven't had a problem since

      @@JasonPerrinRCVlogs You can also try some CA glue (super glue). If there will be a need to take it off, just warm it using soldering iron and CA glue lets go and you can take it off. I did such quick fix with my pivot balls which stripped suspension arms. Of course suspension geometry was not setup correctly so when I came back to home I just warmed it and glue let go without any damage to plastic axle carrier or suspension arms.

    I got an X-maxx last year and love that thing. I haven't had any issues with the pinion or spur other that the pinion coming loose a couple of times. I put some lock tight on there and that seemed to fix the issue. I run all the electronics stock and haven't had any major issues. The ESC overheated a couple times, but after I beat the heck out of that truck. I am not easy on that truck. Broke the body the first time out after I jumped it 30+ feet. The thing is built like a tank and I have no complaints as of yet. I may get the Max 6 ESC at some point, but I definitely don't recommend getting anything until the stock components break. It really is a complete waste of money. Also, get the unbreakable body and Proline Badland tires. You will not be disappointed.

    My friend bought an XMAXX because every video he watched myself included said XMaxx is the most durable. I got a Kraton EXB 6s and expected problems according to TH-cam. So no problems at all with the Kraton max6 1650kv. XMaxx has had issues every time he goes out! The tires came apart first, the pins that hold the a-arms keep falling out. He doesn’t even drive hard.
    Thank you for the honest Veiw. By the way the XMaxx is upgraded and hopefully be operating without issues.
