Craig...this story really hits close to home. My father was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis around 2010, he was retired and exercised daily and was actually very healthy as far as I could see, but that disease took a quick left. In the matter of months he was on 02 24/7 and still could not breathe. He went to a very distinguished hospital and after a weeks worth of tests they said NO, we feel like if we operate you will not make it. My Dad was given a phone number to another surgeon in a different state. Dad made the call and they met. Dad did not leave the hospital until he had 2 new lungs, this happened a few months after he was at this hospital. They put him first on the list and within a month from that time, his lungs arrived. The operation went well and his recovery went really well. He has had a couple of rejection scares but beyond that he is doing great. In October 2020 he will be 6 years post op and doing great. THANK YOU for sharing your story. May you live a very long and healthy life.
@@cgotca Sorry to hear about your sister. If it is okay with you, can you please provide more information on what happened, it would help us know the cons of lung transplant

Due to the condition I have I well never be able to have a transplant. I was born with one lung and two holes in my heart and had complete air way reconstruction. I am very limited in my activity but successfully living for 14 years

Was this a single lung transplant or a double (or bilateral) lung transplant? So glad you are better now, and can breathe again...enjoy life...Congratulations! I am also getting listed in about one week, finished all of my evaluation, now they are having meetings with the transplant med staff.
Forgot to add...the surgeon suggested that I would be a great candidate for a single lung, but at first, I wanted a double, but this is why I am asking you if your's was a single or not. If yours was a single, what kind of activities or how much activities can you do?
Hello how long does it take to get on the list I would like to talk to you further more about this what is the cost on average waiting for your response thank you bye
Craig, How many medications do you have to take a day? I just got turned down for lung transplant. The team said I would need to take 55 medications a day.
I take 27 doses a day. Some are the same meds 2x but its 27 pills, 4 nasal sprays a day and 1 shot for sugar control because of the steroids. Was 70 when I got a left lung and a heart bypass at the same time. Was diagnosed 8 years before with IPF and told I had 3 to 5 yrs. Because of my age I had to go through some extensive testing to prove that i was strong enough and and well enough to be sick. Once I made the wait list it only took 2 weeks to get the magic call. After surgery I was acute ICU for 2 weeks before they could get me off the pipe. Im 8 months out and finally feeling pretty good and getting stronger. What screwed up my rehab was Covid. I was never so sick In my life. I would go through the transplant surgery again before I would want Covid again At 4 months Covid set be back to the beginning plus the added feeling of being sick. Dr said I had gotten it before the surgery it would have without a doubt killed me. The old lungs were down to about 20% or less. One new lung not on 02 since covid on room air im at 97-98%
