nah dean you have got to keep it and fix it, i think its still good content, its all about saving cars and we want to see how you go about fixing the car. besides there is a healthy profit in this one...get the bloody thing fixed
Another vote for fixing it, Dean... 👍 Be really interesting to see how cheaply this could be fixed properly for... maybe then monster it (500bhp+ and those alloys!) and raffle it? Either way, keep up the great work, really enjoying this channel! :)
My son reversed into our neighbour’s car. Insurance claim was for over £4,500 as two new doors were required. Once the car was repaired we noticed that the original doors were still fitted and were repaired and painted. Yet the original quote was still paid out.
17k wow .....I'm hoping you can get this put together relatively cheaply given the make / model let's just hope there's no surprises..... Good luck 🤞 as per . .thanks for taking the time to post x
They include cost of hire car paperwork etc. it cost 7200 to fix my car and 7800 for car hire charge then towing and admin on top of that. And that is why so much gets written off! Go figure….
Keep it mate! A related anecdote, my mate’s electric Merc got rear ended like this - he’s been driving around in a BMW 5 Series provided by the insurance company for over a month with no news of getting his car back (apparently waiting for parts or something 🤷♂️) any time soon. That’s gonna be in the cost of the claim obviously.
I'd keep it Dean - nice little car and if you can get rid of that Leon asap, might help. Don't worry to much about "too many VAG Hatches" as its all great content and you're a master at that stuff.. Given the damage, it doesn't look like it would take much to get it back to normal tbh.
It is a clear situation, you have to fix it. Lots and lots of viewers want to see you fix this car. Me included. The Seat ia almost done, so on with this Golf. Love to see this finished. I wish I could participate in the raffle, but I dont live in the UK...Kind regards Martin. (the Netherlands)
I assume that is the cost of the claim as a whole. Imo it needs the quarter and sill and 2 doors, rear bumper and all the paint as written on the car. Of course it's not impossible to repair quarter but it wants replacing.
You will find as the rear wing is welded on, it is classed as structural, and they would allow for going on a jig, although it wouldn't, and they would quote for a new cill, ,,, Lovely piece of salvage Dean, keep it, and repair it, BUT. Try and get videos of the repair for the channel, it would also help the bodyshop out,
I once reversed into a work mates car, damage was minimal (my car came off worse) I offered to pay for the repair but he wanted to go through insurance, which we did. He was trying to sell the car at the time, garage he took it to for repair ended up buying it from him. Damage to his car was a small dent above the rear arch, and car was only worth about 800 quid (old Vauxhall Astra) so garage had figured they could buy the car, and resell it for the same price without fixing the damage, but then obviously invoiced the insurer as if they'd fixed it. I got a call from the insurer and was happy to inform them that I knew for a fact that car was not repaired, as the old owner, who I was still working with, had told me as much! Never heard from insurer again so I think it safe to say some dodgy garage somewhere got what they deserved! And I got to keep my no claims!
The rate that insurance companies are writing cars off would seem that they are in cahoots with manufacturers. Or might it be the government wanting to bring EVs in and get the older ones off the road so insurance helping out? Looks like an easy enough repair for a body shop and certainly not £17k. I know the insurance companies used to use second hand parts too as that’s what my car had when I got mine done years ago.
I think you should keep it and fix it, would make a nice video to watch, it wouldn’t hang around to long as repair is pretty straight forward. Go on you know you want to.
That rear quarter wont pull out of course, but yes, cut it out and fix it. Send it to the body shop. Its resale value should guarantee a healthy profit....🤔😳😏😏😏🇬🇧
My wifes Audi A3 CAb had similar damage and the reserve put on the repairs was £7052. Has been fixed but don't know the total paid., had complete rear 1/4 panel fitted.
@5:51 Insurances are inclined to have the best - most professional - fix possible because they have to insure it and garages are inclined to charge high sums of money for their work because they know it. 🙂
Wow I think these is less work on this than there was on the Seat. Looks like all it needs is a trip to the body shop to sort the rear quarter and sill. And you need to do is bolt on a bumper, inner arch and trim panels.
If anyone is buying this car, please get 4 Wheel alignment checked before putting it back on the road. Quite possible bolt on suspension parts could be twisted ever so slightly. Maybe its ok, but needs checking.
No surprise at garage repair costs, most are rip off merchants. My late wife bought herself a Suzuki Carry Van we had dogs and she was often off windsurfing. Anyhow I accidently scratched and put a very small crease in the tailgate with a wheelbarrow handle while walking backwards not looking where I was going. I was sorry of course she was gutted of course. Long story short I used to do car repairs crash damage etc, but since I was forced to retire because of an accident I suggested we get a quote for the repair and I would pay! The quote , A staggering £1,500 I was astonished. So I dug out my hammers, I used 1, and a dolly, took the inner door panel off warmed the metal tapped the crease out and got the dent out totally and stabilised so it would not "pop" in again,, used a tiny amount of very fine filler, literally just to fill where the paint was scratched off a quick wipe with some fine wet and dry, a squirt of rattle can left it overnight polished it next morning job done, Total cost the rattle can £7.99, I already had a little filler so, job done no sign of damage or repair.
Could be fun series you might be able to start here. Where you somehow find cars that are about to be written off which you might deem as being silly. Intercept it buy it, fix it and show how ludicrous and over the top insurance companies are by showing true cos to fix some of the cars they write off. And also which would do really big for views and media growth is to shame which insurance provider that assessed the cars as "write off's" (but would speak to social media manager/ solicitor about naming insurance companies). But something like this would gain traction an spark wider debates about the UK growing issues with insurance companies.
Yes I know exactly what your talking about. They wanted to right my car off and I nearly fell over with the damage that was on it. I’m sure the repair company’s are doing some sort of scam so they can buy the car off the insurance so they can make the profit. £4000 they quote for my car and I got it fixed for £500.
@@pauldavies7251 and if the body shop the insurance company uses charges way over the top the assessor writes it off and if you don’t buy it back the repair shop buys it fixes it for peanuts and makes the profit. I also dispute outcome I also bought my car back took to another repair shop and got it fixed for £500 not the £4000 the insurance repair shop said it would cost.
No wonder car insurance costs are going crazy!! Would be good to see you repair it and in comparison to some of your projects would thnk this would be quite a small job?
If the vehicle is going to be repaired using new parts by a accredited repair garage that follow repair methods then yes the bill is high. My issue is that the industry I am in we have to follow repair procedures that back street garages don't follow but yet insurance companies still sell the salvage to any bugger.
Get those parts ordered Dean and get it fixed!! You know you want to stick the Golf parts in it.. Oh she'll look sweet with those alloy wheels on her. ;)
i would suspect that the official VW repair policy would be to cut out the quarter sill and maybe the boot floor- so that can be most of your cost- saw a Volvo with about a 30cm dent in the quarter, because of the boron steel it needed a quarter and it was around 10k CND

Well you might want another hatchback but this looks a much better prospect than the Cupra. Fix it and raffle it. It will be a good video to show it may not be as bad as first sight
£17k is from the body shop whacking the prices up and the cost is being passed onto drivers. Insurance companies need to shop around for the best prices.
Sorry forgot to say the Golf is recorded CAT S. who knows why 🤣
Do you need to promote multiple ads every single video?? It’s so annoying
The videos are becoming in unbarable as it’s nothing but advertisements/promo on top of TH-cam’s ads.
Cat s because of the rear wing is part of the cars structure I mean it's pretty obvious

I agree fix it and raffle it 👍
No need
I think that you should do this one and prove how much a scam insurance costs are in this country
The honest thing to do is replace the quarter panel. Pulling it out and reshaping with a ton of filler is just back street garage stuff IMO
Come on Dean, get it fixed. That's why I subscribe to the channel, to see you repair cars, not flog them off.

Send it to bodyshop for what you can't or don't want to do, then make this a 500BHP beauty.
😬😬
Giving it 500 bhp would make it virtually unsaleable.
Fix it and keep it standard would be a quick turnaround i reckon

It's got Chris and Rob written all over it!
When it comes to any damage the insurance company always sees dollar signs 😂 that is one stunning car and won't take long to turn around at all

If I had the money I’d be buying that, wouldn’t be a fortune to fix even if a new quarter was needed. Great savings over non damaged.
