It's not free energy , but fly wheel technology is more effective for high torque genrator with low capacity motor.
Then we will get the high torque coupling with genrator, will get the more effective and Smooth out put.
Friend you are right and thanks for understanding. Flywheel only absorbs energy and releases the same energy to maintain inertia. This way it smooths the motion and eliminates fluctuations.
