- On a very warm but beautiful Summer's Day, Mrs M and I went out to see the first ever visit of A1 Pacific 'Tornado' to the Pembrokeshire Seaside Town of Tenby.
We see her in the first clip speeding Westwards through Ferryside, with the DBCargo,Pathfinder Tour from Bristol, then running round her train at Carmarthen, where 66165 was sent from Margam to tow the train down the Pembroke Branch to Tenby where Tornado was facing the right way round for the return journey to Bristol, where she is seen effortlessly picking up speed as she crosses Loughour Bridge on the climb up the notorious Cockett Bank.
Beautiful catches of this beautiful Pacific that gives a great feeling of power. Diolch Bob. Philippe
C'est une locomotive très puissante Philippe, elle n'a été construite qu'en 2008, donc encore une nouvelle locomotive. Diolch i chi fel arfer ... Bob
wow Bob you sure were in the right places for this train, and a great catch for sure thanks for all your time and work to show us the good stuff.
Thanks Wayne, a wonderful day to be out to capture this first event...a superb locomotive that is only eleven years old
Wow ... spectacular ... great capture Bob of this iconic loco ...
She's a magnificent loco Dave, those driving wheels are huge....Thanks as always for your kind comments...Bob
Bob, a lovely day and what better way to spend it than watching and filming Tornado. Great shots as always and Tornado looking well in control. Keith.
I totally agree Keith, once a year we get steam down West if we're lucky, so making the most of it....Thanks as always for your support...Regards...Bob
That haunting steam whistle at Ferryside ! The same erie whistle as the Tornado crossed the river. The framed shot at Carmarthen. Photography worthy of that fine engine. Nice job.
Thank you very much, she's a magnificent locomotive, and I was delighted to be able to witness this rare event.
Superb video Bob. Excellent days filming. Great selection of locations. A day to remember being the time to Tenby. Enjoyable watching. Well worth the journey. Best wishes C&A
Thanks both, we were lucky with the traffic, and even had a car parking space at Tenby Station...There was sufficient time to change locations, so delighted to get what we did...Best wishes....Bob
👍 nice one Bob another great video
Thanks Vince, greatly appreciated.
Beautifully captured as always, Bob.
Thank you Colin, much appreciated.
What a great scoop.......So good to have Steam down in Your neck of the Woods our Bob.....Brill video as usual...Best wishes....Steve.
Thanks Steve, the one and only steam hauled run down West this year. She a magnificent loco, very fast, but not so good on gradients...Best wishes...Bob
First class as always Bob , you certainly covered some ground , once again very well done.
Thanks Ron, I did surprisingly well with so much traffic around, and most of my locations are fairly close to home any way.
Very nice Bob.You have waited a long time to get some steam down your way.You couldn't miss capturing the moment.....Regards Chris
It's been a fabulous day Chris, to witness this great loco down West...Best wishes...Bob
Class filming as ever Bob, just gotta love that chime whistle 👍
Thanks Steve, you can hear that chime whistles from Miles around.
The tornado may be fast but it's not strong. It should be converted from burning coal to oil..
Greetings from Canberra Australia - must have been a hell of a day for Tenby. Thanks for posting. I am so jealous.
Greetings from West Wales, it was a special day, with crows turning out all along the route..Bob
Good video Bob. Tornado in fine form as we have come to expect. She always seems to have something in reserve
Thanks Austin, she's a very powerful loco, and currently in Top Form.
Great shot coming in to Ferryside Bob, well done, keep up the good work
Thanks Peter, it is in fact leaving Ferryside for Carmarthen.
Fantastic shot of 'The Pembroke Coast Express'
Thank you Alfie.
Superb as always! Many thanks.
I was at Ferryside in the morning and at the headshunt under Carmarthen town bridge. You must have been filming fairly close to where I was standing in both locations. Didn't manage to get down to Tenby, though and was watching the cricket when she returned.
Many thanks Robert, I was West of Ferryside in the morning, and you weren't there, but there was two photographers at the head shunt at Carmarthen, so one of them might have been you!
@@robmasterman No, that wasn't me. I don't take photos any more. Over the years I've learned that other people take much better photos (and videos than me). There was also too much peering through the viewfinder and wait,wait,wait,..............damn, missed it! I'll maybe meet up with you and say hello one of these fine days. Kind regards, Rob Jones, Llanddarog.
Fair enough Rob, indeed, who knows we may well meet one day, in the mean time, Best wishes from me in Pembrey.....Bob
Excellent video Bob. Wonderful location for the first shot. Regards, Dave.
Thanks Dave, Ferryside is situated on the estuary of the River Teifi in Carmarthenshire, You look across to Llansteffan where you can see the Castle....Beautiful location indeed...Regards...Bob
It brought the crowns out on a very nice day down your way Bob. Regards Mike
It's been a magical day Mike, and one we've both thoroughly enjoyed...Regards...Bob
Needless to say Bob, excellent coverage of this tour & finally ending your 'steam drought' ...... No wonder you had such an enjoyable day which certainly brought out the crowds......... Did they think it was Flying Scotsman lol. Regards, Brian.
Thanks Brian, I've never seen a turnout like this before, as you say, such a rare event these days, and coupled with glorious weather, brought them all out...Best wishes...Bob
Lovely engine, lovely day, and lovely location. You certainly pick some nice spots for your camera, Bob. Best wishes...Mervyn
I'm very lucky to live in such a beautiful area of Wales Mervyn, unfortunately, not enough steam to capture....Best wishes....Bob
Hi Bob, great video, sound & colour and location's,..Dave
Thanks as always Dave, it's been a very special day for us....Bob
@@robmasterman Hi Bob, yes looked a good visit, all the best... Dave 🚂 👍
Lovely shots Bob, your mishap on zooming didnt spoil the shot at Ferryside. I was at Tenby station.
Had chips & found a parking place the south side of station. It was 30 mins late & very hot in the full sun!
I liked your location on the station. At least you saw the loco.
Well done, great to see both you & Diane (Mrs M), Geraint
Thanks Ger, the clip at Ferryside wasn't as bad as I'd feared...good to see you again...All the best...Bob
You and the wife sir have had the most lovely day seeing 60163 Tornado as I saw it at Bridgend heading West then at Carmarthen and then crossing over to take the (VOGL) Vale of Glamorgan Line at Bridgend on the return. I see you met Richard from Pathfinder Tours as I have known him when I travelled with Pathfinder Tours on the Carmarthen King 2 August 22nd 1998 and others in between. James Joseph JJ Dyer
Hello James, we certainly have enjoyed ourselves today, and it looks as though you've certainly covered some mileage as well....Bob
Great Video and congratulations on your very subtle signature - wish others would follow!
Thank you Brian, unfortunately the signature has become necessary as people do copy your work and don't give credit to the Author...Bob
Super nice video, big thumbs up :=)
Thanks again Simon, greatly appreciated.
Beautiful Bob 👍
Thanks very much Paul, it was a great day.
Hi Bob ...at last a quality video coverage of Tornado trip to Tenby, I’ve seen some dreadful footage today of the occasion and this is refreshing..great stuff.the location at Ferryside ,is that west of the station not the approach, I have videoed there quite a few times on the east side and the view towards St Ishmaels was quite unhindered by vegetation cheers regards...Brian
That's very kind of you Brian, and greatly appreciated. The location is West of Ferryside, and as you know, a favourite of mine. The problem with Ferryside on a sunny day is that due to it's position along the coast, it's not until the afternoon, that you get the sun shining from the Sea.
Terrific footage, thanks for sharing! What summers are made for...
Thanks very much, and totally agree about special days like this.
Superb video. Perfect weather and great scenery. Do you know why they needed to take Tornado off the train at Carmarthen? I wondered why it lost so much time there.
Thanks Gareth, Tornado has to come off at Carmarthen for servicing before being towed to Tenby. I didn't stop long at Carmarthen so I'm afraid I didn't see what caused the delay there.
Thanks for the answer, Bob.
Fantastic video as always Bob. You must have been driving around like a mad man trying to get all those shots.
Thanks James, all the action I captured was fairly close together, and with plenty of time, it was easy to achieve..local knowledge helps!
Great video, filmed her at Severn Tunnel Junction
Thanks very much, glad you like it.
that kid in the middle right at the end was me so hi bro
Fame at last eh!!
@@robmasterman yea
I saw it at Llanelli beautiful locomotive
She certainly is Leighton and still in her prime, being only eleven Years old.
Gordon!!!
Gordon was based on a War Department 2-8-0 Freight locomotive, whereas the loco featured in this video is a 2008 built A1 locomotive.
@@robmasterman And where now is locomotive on which Gordon is based? I'm just Russian, and I'm interested in rail transport.
@@NewLaytCoolShow It's currently in the Museum at Arley on the Severn Valley Railway...It's in Blue livery and is actually named 'Gordon'
@@robmasterman Thanks for the info.
@@NewLaytCoolShow Локомотив находится в музее Арли на железной дороге долины Северн. Он окрашен в синий цвет и также называется «Гордон». Большой прием от меня в Уэльсе к вам в Россию.
I'm curious, if the 66 led the train down the branch to Tenby, why did Tornado come off at Carmarthen?
It came off at Carmarthen to be serviced Jonathan, the 66 hauled the train to Tenby so that Tornado was facing the right way for the return trip to Bristol without calling at Carmarthen. The 66 was detached at Port Talbot in order to return to Margam. Hope that helps...Bob
@@robmasterman Thanks Bob. I wondered if that was why.
My pleasure.
