Byakko, Seiryu, Genbu, and Suzaku. 4 beasts that are guardians in the East. Each one represents a direction and season. They are rather ubiquitous in eastern media.
There's also Kohryuu which represents the centre and each also represents one of the five elements Byakko is metal, Suzaku is fire, Seiryuu is Wood, Genbu is Water and Kohryuu is earth
That would be Yoshi P singing in the live version. The Digital Fanfest was their way of still doing conventions but all livestreamed due to that recent plague and all lol Also there was a Final Fantasy Fender released a couple years back, a stratocaster if I'm recalling right.
And the guy with the hat is Koji Fox. He started out as a simple translator, but has since risen to leader of the English localization team, and part-time singer and lyrics writer in the Primals. In which other game developer, do you see the game director, leader of the translators and main composer make music together? :)
I think the first video I caught of yours was Answers or Dragonsong as I was falling *deep* in the FFXIV hole at the time. I stuck around for the chill vibes just enjoying listening to VGM, and the excitement of seeing reactions to some requests I knew would be inevitable. I remember popping off seeing the notifications for things like Bury the Light, any Metal Gear Rising, or the FF7 Remake phase. Can't believe it's been three years almost, time flies, man. Here's to many more.
The motif is Kugane's, I don't think you've heard the city's theme before but you've definitely heard other songs from the same expansion that use it. Byakko and Seiryu are both bosses part of the "Four Lords" series that is Byakko, Suzaku, Seiryu and Genbu. You've actually heard Suzaku's theme before (years ago at this point lmao), her theme is called Sunrise! We beat Genbu as a dungeon boss so he doesn't get his own theme sadly lol Glad you like them! Especially happy you included the version with the producer of the game on the vocals, it's certainly cool lmao
I love what they did with the four lords and how faithful they kept the japanese motif seeing as the story of the four lords is basically a re-imagining of "Journey to the west" or...Peach boy, Momotaro. its amazing!
When i first played through this bossfight, the song's drop lined up perfectly with SOAR!! RIDE THE STORM!! for the huge laser attack. That left an impression. Soppy nostalgia is fun. I have been watching for years, think since you had 600 subs...with the Garuda theme video. This might also be the most you have watched of gameplay on any of the 14 vids too. The "fighting two at once?...ooo *headbob*" moment is why most of us play final fantasy 14
Stormblood music, my beloved! The singer in the live version is Yoshi P (yoshida naoki) the director and producer of ff14 himself. It's awesome that you can see how much he loves his game. It was awesome to see the primals and the director himself perform. For digital Fanfests it's live streamed and they have a live chat. It was actually kind of sad during COVID because they performed their hearts out to an empty physical audience, but they made me feel like I was there. ❤ You could see the excitement and overall just JOY being able to perform again in front of everyone a few years later at the 2023 Fanfest.
Every time Seiryu comes up in roulettes, I always go in with "Ah man I hate this fight" and then phase two kicks in with the music and I go "Nevermind, past me is a fucking idiot. This fight rocks."
These two were good to pair together because they're part of the same boss series and storyline. I believe you've also heard Suzaku's theme "Sunset" which was also another boss that was a part of this set.
I was like "I didn't know there's a live version of Amatsu Kaze??" and then I saw Yoshi-P and went "oh, I totally know about it" x'D Ah, Seiryu's theme is still one of my favorites from this expansion, it's just ... unique in its own way somehow! I wouldn't have noticed the similarity to Shiva's theme if you hadn't mentioned it, though :o And my first reaction watched from you was Serpent Eating the Horizon, so since 2021 :D Two more months and it's been three years!
You've earned the nostalgia! I think you know more track names than some players at this point. I started following with your first FFXIV song and I get so excited whenever there's a new FFXIV song uploaded! Thank you for doing what you do.
Can’t believe it’s been that long since you first started! Been here since the Worms Tail/Shinryu theme and still elated I got you to listen to Soken singing La Hee xD
"Old faces still lurking around" crew chiming in. I could answer questions and allude to recurring east-asian storytelling motifs like the Four Cardinal Beasts/Shittennou, or fill in other gaps, but I think it's more appreciate to just say, "3 years in and I'm still catching your vids on the day to day, keep at it, man!", and glad to see you getting to enjoy some of those now-vintage requests from the early days of your song queue. I always get the feeling you've come to understand that every track in the queue is a treasure for someone they wanted to share, and you seem inclined to dig deep and recognize those treasures for what they are, even if they're not precisely to your tastes. That's what keeps me coming back. That and the notifications. Those help. Good luck, man, and here's to another 3 years of unexpected bangers surfacing in XIV's soundtrack.
You can be nostalgic, Jesse, it's okay. 3 years of listening to XIV music pretty consistently (82 videos, some which have multiple songs) you've averaged 2.2 videos a month. Can't believe it's already been 3 years! My first videos were A Long Fall and Shadowbringers. And then my Chrono Trigger song suggestion (World Revolution) won the poll you put up! I don't comment super often but I'm still around watching 😄Happy almost anniversary!
It is the nature of supply & demand, so definitely not holding it against you that the list is daunting. Your Patreon rates were reasonable. I'm honestly sad I didn't try harder to get songs in the queue earlier when I did. Now I'm just here to enjoy when something familiar shows up that I can talk about.
Those first 5 or so reacts to XIV are how I found your channel back in the day. Glad you finally reacted to From the Dragon's Wake as it's one of my favorite XIV tracks still and hope you eventually hear the zone and city music which have completely different vibes from the battle music! ♥
Definitely have waited years for this and I am glad its finally reacted to. If I were to recommend a theme that isn't a boss or Dungeon then I would suggest Sands of Amber. Though I am sure that is already been requested by now. The music is just a very relaxing vibe but at the same time that feeling of wandering.
Oh man, Sands of Amber. One of my favorites in the whole game. One of the first times I remember just putting my controller down and sitting for a long time with just the music.
I did started playing FFXIV roughly 3 years ago, and I did found your channel from FFXIV music reacts! And Seiryu's theme is so iconic and gets stuck in your head so easily! Also you should do more Silent Hill songs I love Silent Hill! The 2nd game remake is coming out soon!
A ton of the vocalists for XIV tracks are actually just developers who Soken kidnaps and pulls into a recording booth if he so much as hear them humming anywhere near on tune. YoshiP is the singer for the recorded version of Amatsu Kaze with heavy processing and auto-tune. Koji Fox was the localization lead before Soken dragged him into the booth during Heavensward for the Alexander tracks. "What Angel Wakes Me", which you've reacted to before, is sung by Paula Kaye Gerhold, also from the localization team. She sings a track in Dawntrail as well, as far as we are aware.
Haven't seen anyone else mention this but Soken is actually playing a custom FFXIV Fender guitar up there! They did a big collaboration and Soken had direct input on its design and features, most notably a "limit break" button that "puts the bridge and middle pickups in series for beefier sounds," to quote official copy.
So Seiryu's thing he does throughout the fight is summon his shikigami, so a lot of the mechanics are represented by something he summons that does an attack instead of a direct attack.
These bosses were in Stormblood, the expansion was highly influenced with Japanese and Asian lore in general. Byakko's theme is pretty unique in that it is one of the few songs with Japanese lyrics instead of full English. Watching you nerd out about music and how it makes you feel is always awesome and so relatable in the way some of us nerd out about 14. The best thing about 14 is sure, you can pick out a song if you hear it, but especially with the new Dawntrail stuff, i can't wait til you hear some of it, its nothing like the 14 you've heard so far! p.s. ive been enjoying your content for about 2 years, but i saw it here and there a little farther back, can't wait to see where this all takes you! ^.^
If I recall correctly I found your channel through your Shadowbringers Theme reaction. That or the Endwalker one. What I am certain is that I saw a thread on the ffxiv reddit of your video and kept watching your content. ✌
Kaze is Ka-Ze, which means wind in Japanese. Byakko, Seiryu, Suzaku, and Genbu are part of multiple Asian mythologies. The elements they all represent are fuzzy and inconsistent, but in Chinese, their names break down to color-animal, so Byakko would be 白虎 Báihǔ (White Tiger) in Chinese. Anyway. The 4 Saintly Lords or Heavenly Lords, all represent a color, a direction, and an animal. Byakko is the White Tiger of the West (Wind), Seiryu is the Blue/Green dragon (or serpent) of the East (Water), Suzaku is the Red/Vermilion Bird of the South (Fire) and Genbu is the Black Tortoise of the North (Earth). There's also a being of the Center direction, in this case Koryu but that one I know next to nothing about. I believe it's also a dragon though. The 4 Heavenly Lords feature in a lot of anime and Eastern fiction. Fushigi Yugi is an anime that features very heavily on a war between the Suzaku and Seiryu factions. My sister was a big fan of it. They're also minor villains in Yu Yu Hakusho. Anyway... No FF14 facts and trivia today Jesse. Just Real information. Oh. As for the guitar. I believe that's the Stratocaster Fender that was created in collaboration with Square Enix. It's in FFXIV for you to play using the Bard's musical instrument feature. The guitar has a feature that takes it from clean to dirty. It's a special feature only in the FFXIV guitar. I know next to nothing about guitars so I can't really explain it well. But here's the specific one in use: www.fender.com/en-DE/final-fantasy-xiv-stratocaster-and-crystal-shard-picks/final-fantasy-strat-picks.html Husky has one if you wanna ask him about it.
When my employer at the time ordered everyone to come back to the office after the peak of the pandemic, I started looking for new YT channels to listen to during my commute. It's crazy that was three years ago, and that's when I found your first reaction video. I've moved states and jobs since, but listening to you react to Stormblood music takes me back to that drive. Congrats on 3 years man, looking forward to many more years to come!
Can I just say I've never heard that piano in the back at 23:37 (and elsewhere)? Been playing this game since 2019 and these videos still bring new stuff to the front for me sometimes lol
Yay, it's finally here! But yes, as everyone else pointed out that's FF14 producer/director Naoki Yoshida singing. I linked the video from the Korean Fanfest because the VOD of the global digital Fanfest was taken down. The quality wasn't quite as good as the global one, but better quality than phone recordings, but when Yoshi-P walked out on stage in that kimono we all collectively lost our minds. It's not the first time he's come out to sing, but it's amazing that he's involved in every aspect of the game from visual design, planning, story, doing interviews, and doing performances like this. Been here since nearly the beginning. Unfortunately had to cut back on some of my Patreons, but I still follow you here on TH-cam and I think I might still have like 1 or 2 songs somewhere in the queue from way back when? It's been a wild ride and I'm super happy you were able to make this your full time job!
I started with your first FF video, I think maybe that was Garuda? But at that time I think you'd have one or two others up either at that time or shortly after. It really has been a while! I've dropped what I'm doing to start a video of yours multiple times. Thanks for being a cool guy, and I hope you're still having fun! :)
Honestly not sure exactly when, but it was near the start when you did Shadowbringers main theme, and you used to have your hair tied up a lot more in a ponytail from what I remember. Stuck around ever since. Watched your entire playthrough of FF7, Remake and Rebirth too. Lots of good times
I remember when Seiryu came out some people were moaning because the song was so different from Suzaku and Byakko and had no lyrics and to this day I still dont get it. This song is incredible and so fitting for how fast paced the fight is
The "motif" you caught is very similar to the tune of "Oblivion", I heard it too when I first did this fight, in "Find the Flame" from FF16 you can also hear a bit of the "Oblivion" motif. The big water elemental looking thing at the back of the Seiryu fight is something the boss casts, it's not an attackable entity but it is a problem to worry about as it does half room attacks that on top of doing a lot of damage to you will also force you to your knee for a second or two iirc, making it impossible to move. Many bosses in FF14 have a similar mechanic where they summon a "wall boss" that is not attackable but does things you need to worry about not getting hit by.
Been here since the OG Garuda vid, watched some of the game streams too like 7 remake. Don't comment much since most things I'd probably bring up is already said already but still enjoying your FF journey.
Adding to sappy crap, it's kinda wild. I literally stumbled on your FF14 reacts from TH-cam's weird broken algorithms back 3ish years ago. Sometimes TH-cam really does bring treasure to the forefront! Been watching since and I got to get you to react to Sogno Di Volare which I'm glad you enjoyed!
For future reference, if there's ever a language in these songs other than English it's Japanese, unless it's a nier crossover track and using the chaos language.
"he looks familiar", ah but 'tis none other than the one and only producer and director and our savior, YoshiP! that was a custom-made kimono from an artisan, even has "FFXIV" and the main story quest icon sewed into it
You were asking how people's opinion on the music of FF14 might be affected by when they start playing, but the beauty of this MMO is that it makes you go through every single bit of main story from Day One of A Realm Reborn, to the newest chapter in Dawntrail. Definitely you associated music with certain moments within the expansions, but in my experience you don't end up only enjoying Heavensward, or Stormblood's music, it's more of a "I love all these songs from various expansions because of what was happening story/fight-wise! Been watching your channel for a solid year, got recommended your reaction to Answers and stayed for the chill vibes and enjoyment of other songs from FF14 (primarily) and other games I enjoyed!
God, I think I started here like a month ago or so? Foolishly thought you were new to this despite the vague recognition of your face I couldn’t place - which was surprising to me! I’m usually pretty face blind bc autistic so seeing a new channel with a familiar face? Confusing to me! But also, I’m a sucker for musicians reacting to my favorite video game music bc yes please validate my musical tastes bc god knows I ain’t getting that from my family that basically only listen to contemporary christian slop (I mean it, it’s a rant so I won’t go into it but. Yeah.). And now I keep adding more and more FFXIV music reactions new and old to my listening while working and/or running FFXIV roulettes playlists and I almost don’t want to catch up lmao. (I probably will eventually, even when I’m not explicitly slapping stuff in from the playlist, TH-cam has learned to recommend more lmao.)
Yeah people geeked out seeing Yoshi-P sing cause it was first time? he performed with the Primals. The kimono was also custom made 1 of 1 for Yoshi-P. Koji Fox (hat guy) is main singer but more recent shows he's been in/out cause he does a lot translating. He complained was lot of voice work for number of years. There is special edition FFXIV Fender Stratocaster which was very expensive for what it was (Square Enix has nasty habit of making their merch pricey). Functions just like any other strat except it has 1 push in pot that enables neck and bridge pickups for humbuckler mode, marketing name is "Limit Break Button". Its all black on black with some see through bits on rosewood fretboard
I believe I've been watching since like Jan-Feb 2022. I think I might have gotten recommendations earlier, and I'm sure it's because I was watching a lot of FF content at the time, being new to the game.
Seiryu's theme left me neutral for a long time. Then a friend and I started farming the fight, just the two of us. A few dozen runs later, we both got our mount... and the song really grew on me! Now I like it a lot.
Heads up, if you want a couple songs to react to that just came out before the algorithm stops recommending them, “Give it All,” and “Bee My Honey” are from the new raid series and they are some of the highest quality music we’ve gotten flat out.
I would love to see to react to a "Emerald Under Saphire" It's the day theme for Yak T'el (from Dawntrail, which was released 2 montha ago) Its zone BGM (not another battle theme) and one of my favorite songs in the FFXIV right now.
Out of the songs you started with, a bunch of them were from the Stormblood expansion! Ironically enough, there's a handful of people that hate its music because the music stuck a lot to its Eastern thematics. A bit overblown I think, but the thing is the great bangers that come from it very much fit the mold, so... here we are!
Byakko isn't a dragon, Byakko is a tiger. Seiryu is suppose to be the dragon, but in xiv, he is more like a serpent. Genbu is the turtle, and Suzaku is the phoenix. All four of them make up the Japanese legend of the four sacred beasts. The azure dragon of the east (Seiryu), the white tiger of the west (Byakko), vermilion bird of the south (Suzaku) and the black of the north (Genbu).
You asked for some FFXIV music that isn’t fighting music. Here are a few: Morrow’s Might Morrow’s Magic The Nautilus Knoweth Ceruleum Smoke at High Noon A Father’s Pride A Mother’s Pride And 2 others from the FF series: Kids Run Through the City Fisherman’s Horizon
Pretty sure I've been watching since Fallen Angel? It was pretty early on. Never subbed though because I'm very particular about my subscription feed (sorry!). I do like every video I watch though and occasionally leave a comment, so I hope I can be forgiven. ;-;
The motif you're recognising in From the Dragon's Wake is used pretty similarly in two of the songs for Shiva. One you haven't heard, and the other is Return To Oblivion, which is one of the earlier times you had FFXIV on your channel
@@MetroidFission No story connection, but the music has a connection. Dunno why, probably not even on purpose. but the motifs are the same (speed up "Oblivions" section where the singer goes "Lying naked while the snow falls all around me. Drifting closer to the edge but she won't have me" and you got Seiryus theme)
sorry to bother you can you react this music look up at the sky from trail in the sky (classic jrpg game 2004) 😊😊 yesterday nintendo direct japan have announce for remake game
i used to love this song... but i had a toxic relationship during the time i used to grind this fight... now this is my least favorite fight\ost\anything related, thing in the game.... :(
That was game director Yoshida om the vocals, which is probably why he looked familiar. He always shows up to fanfests dressed as a character.
Or wear stuff to confuse the community since he his Shirts are hints to New jobs xD

Jesse, I've been around forever, and every time you do ff14 it brings me back to the early days. Been fun sticking with you throughout.
Wait, Yoshida, THE Yoshi-P, sang Amatsu Kaze? Holy moly, wow, how could I've missed that
Fanfest...2018? I think. I was lucky enough to see it live. We were so hype when we realized it was him.
@@yamigi88 Hes since also done it at at least one other fanfest!I believe he sang it again at the jp fanfest early this year.

Seiryus Theme is heavily underrated. Even in this comment section it is. Definitely a top 5 best FFXIV songs from me

But here's the specific one in use:

Husky has one if you wanna ask him about it.
Watchin this fanfest was wild when Yoshi P came out to sing.
I started watching back when you first reacting to Answers.
As far as i know ive watched you from your 2nd or 3rd video and have been enjoying them since
I started watching you the moment you made a FF14 reaction. And I still only watch these on your channel.
The producer/director of FF14 and FF16 is the gentleman in robe in the live version, Yoshi-P. The original vocalist is behind him on backup vocals
This song is incredible and so fitting for how fast paced the fight is
Exactly, the song matches the pace of the fight perfectly and while it may have not aged well, back then it was hectic as all hell 😂
I think I first started watching your videos with the Shadowbringers Theme. I can't quite remember exactly when, but it was early on for sure.
"Is this like a made up language?" Jesse my man, its Japanese xD
To be fair despite being a Japanese game it basically never uses Japanese vocals
@@ngwoo True, just sounded fun when he asked it
heh.
In my case, seeing english "translation" or phonetics threw me off. Also they vox being heavily filtered, but noted. 👍
@@JessesAuditorium You thinking of Romaji, the word for Japanese with Roman alphabet, i.e what English is using
I don't know the exact time, but I know it's been at least 2 years as I recognize the old set up when I watch those videos again aha
Seiryu is still my vote for most underrated track in game
With infinity as a close second
Your reaction to Garuda's theme was the first video of yours I watched. That may have been 3 years ago, or there abouts.
For future reference, if there's ever a language in these songs other than English it's Japanese, unless it's a nier crossover track and using the chaos language.
"he looks familiar", ah but 'tis none other than the one and only producer and director and our savior, YoshiP!
that was a custom-made kimono from an artisan, even has "FFXIV" and the main story quest icon sewed into it
I'm pretty sure I first found you with the Shinryu video, which was your first FF14 one!
Since you were wondering, both of these tracks were composed and arranged by Soken himself
I have no idea when I started watching your videos, I just know that it's been more than 2 years
God, I think I started here like a month ago or so?
Man I really wish people would request some zone themes and more dungeon themes. It's such a shame that everyone mostly requests battle themes...
Seiryu's theme left me neutral for a long time. Then a friend and I started farming the fight, just the two of us. A few dozen runs later, we both got our mount... and the song really grew on me! Now I like it a lot.
The koto in From the Dragon's Wake is what gets me going
🐅 🐍 🐢 🐦⬛!
Yeah that's Yoshi-P singing on the live version :D
34:34 looks like I started watching around or before july 2023, so just over a year now!
You left out Suzaku ;-; !!!! The Stormblood fights with the legendary beasts just can't be complete without the flute~
Heads up, if you want a couple songs to react to that just came out before the algorithm stops recommending them, “Give it All,” and “Bee My Honey” are from the new raid series and they are some of the highest quality music we’ve gotten flat out.
Byakku's arena isn't a swamp. its a bamboo thicket. they're singing in japanese.
The second MMO Final Fantasy, in fact!
Yoshidas extraordinary afterwork venting Karaoke with his co-workers
Some of the best music from the Stormblood bosses!
And me, waiting the reaction of Penitus, my 20 bucks reclaim that reaction !
I would love to see to react to a "Emerald Under Saphire" It's the day theme for Yak T'el (from Dawntrail, which was released 2 montha ago) Its zone BGM (not another battle theme) and one of my favorite songs in the FFXIV right now.
the singer is yoshi p , the director and producer of ffxiv . Hes not a singer lol he did this for his love for the game.
He isnt too bad at it fwiw, like, you can hear he is by no means trained, but he has a voice for very specific songs.
Yeah the language they're singing is real, it's called Japanese 😂
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH ARAMITAMA
oh also I started watching not long after you started doing ff14 videos - i've played ff14 since day 1
Fairly sure Soken composed both.
21:43 this intro always gives me such early Naruto vibes
I think Iike Suzaku's theme the most of the 4.
yessss I've been waiting to hear Amatsu Kaze
Out of the songs you started with, a bunch of them were from the Stormblood expansion! Ironically enough, there's a handful of people that hate its music because the music stuck a lot to its Eastern thematics. A bit overblown I think, but the thing is the great bangers that come from it very much fit the mold, so... here we are!
Argh! You said papaya! That's me done for the day now... Earworm doom.. :p
CAN SOMEONE SEND "SEEKING PURPOSE" FOR JESSE TO REACT !?
Have you been listening to the song 1000 words from FFX-2? If not, maybe you give it a try 🙂
You would provably recognize him from "lahee" when he sang terribly and played the otamatone xD
@@rushindweeb4085 that was soken
@@LegendaryXDartz was it? I thought it was yoshi xD my mistake
All hail Yoshi P!
You asked for some FFXIV music that isn’t fighting music. Here are a few:
Morrow’s Might
Morrow’s Magic
The Nautilus Knoweth
Ceruleum Smoke at High Noon
A Father’s Pride
A Mother’s Pride
And 2 others from the FF series:
Kids Run Through the City
Fisherman’s Horizon
Holy shit it's yoshi p
They requested Byakko and Seiryu, but *not* Suzaku?
Pretty sure I've been watching since Fallen Angel? It was pretty early on. Never subbed though because I'm very particular about my subscription feed (sorry!). I do like every video I watch though and occasionally leave a comment, so I hope I can be forgiven. ;-;
The motif you're recognising in From the Dragon's Wake is used pretty similarly in two of the songs for Shiva. One you haven't heard, and the other is Return To Oblivion, which is one of the earlier times you had FFXIV on your channel
It's actually Kugane's motif, Shiva has no connection to Seiryu :p
@@MetroidFission No story connection, but the music has a connection. Dunno why, probably not even on purpose. but the motifs are the same (speed up "Oblivions" section where the singer goes "Lying naked while the snow falls all around me. Drifting closer to the edge but she won't have me" and you got Seiryus theme)
@@Kasuta_Ikite Shiva loves dragons, maybe? 🐉
@@Zanguza LOL! That'll officially be my personal headcanon from now on - that Soken put Shivas' motif in here because she'd be into Seiryu too
The Seiryu theme is actually an FF11 theme but more sped up and with a little bit extra: the Kazham town theme
sorry to bother you
can you react this music
look up at the sky from trail in the sky (classic jrpg game 2004) 😊😊
yesterday nintendo direct japan have announce for remake game
i used to love this song... but i had a toxic relationship during the time i used to grind this fight... now this is my least favorite fight\ost\anything related, thing in the game.... :(
