That is amazing how your poetry book got so far! That is huge! I am currently planning on self publishing two poetry books of my own that I have written. This is honestly a big push to do so and I really appreciate the encouraging message through this video. I bet your books are beautiful

I’m just some guy in Canada and I know this video is over a year old but you sold me to blind buy your book. I added it to my online cart so I can buy it when I get some cash. I’m intrigued by the concept of hour by hour and also art deco. There’s 2 copies left in Canada.

I attempted the art deco style of illustrations (drawing the more geometric style for the first time) and picked a suitable font to match. 🥹

Congratulations sis! :) Would you recommend drawing illustrations on a drawing paper with a real pencil and then scanning it to include in your poetry book? Or doing it on iPad is better ?

You could most definitely do it that way, but unless the background of your scanned image can be made transparent easily, I suggest doing it directly on software on the iPad. The reason for this is the ability to have a transparent background with just a click, which is ideal for when your book goes to print. An example of why I say this, is you may want to print on cream paper, not white. The image will show with the background from the scan (again, unless you know a way around this).
Hi! Thank you for this video! I’m also did my illustrations for my poetry book, but I’m confused about the measures, I’m afraid the quality won’t be the best, any recomendations on that?
You just need to check what the ppi or dpi should be per illustration, the company you self publish through should advise you of this.
I have previously drawn the size i knew I wanted (have an idea of this already) but you can also submit them resized. Most of the time even after you resize it, it’s still ok :)
heyyy i was wondering, which kind of pencil did you use on procreate and how thick was it?
The pencil and thickness was always different, depending on the illustrations and the shadows, etc. I will check to see if it saved the pencil types in the history, as I don’t remember specifics now!
Question- are you allowed to use others artwork in self publish books? I see publishers with such cool designs or watercolors they didn't create. How are they able to do that?
No - unless you have authorisation from the original artist, and have (if required) paid them to use it!
There are a lot of images in the public domain that you can use for free. Google will give you the info you need about what’s considered public domain.
Do you know if that means I shook specify for the illustrators I am going to hire for my poetry book to send me the files as CMYK? Is that possible? Or if they send me a regular JPEG, how do I put that onto my pages?
Something else to consider is if the background of your illustrations will be transparent, I would suggest a PNG or TIFF file for illustrations (not JPEG). And yes, ask them to be in CMYK. ☺️

What printing measurements do you have like book size
I believe Neon Sun is 5x8”
Do you have to pay for different ISBNs for each book you have? Like if they are the same book.
Because I want to buy lots of copys of my book.And sell it on my website.
Yes, each book requires a different ISBN in order to be published. Even if it’s the same book being printed in a different size. I recommend buying many ISBNs to save your money. ☺️
What format did you use? I’m using Canva but converting pdf has been hard.
