Yes I have mostly big drawers, then a few medium size. No small drawers! Haha for me either. I love my drawers, I have a pop out pantry too. God I love that thing! So much that I begged for another right next to it. It makes storing and finding things so easy. Though I must admit if I had the room, I would love a butlers pantry.
I hope you move the doorway...put two grand big large double doors with the doors placement in the middle of the wall, it will balance the entire room and make it feel less like a kitchen, the placement of the current door is horrible and awkward.
Phillip, please check out Escape to rural France. I think you and Dan need to collaborate,he is trying to figure out some equipment. I could be wrong but I don't think so
Wow!!!!!!!!! Aren't people so kind to send in their ideas. The last vision with all the pictures was amazing. Love the island changed around, the shorter cupboards, the glass cupboard fronts and ladder and the door mived to the middle. A kitchen that doesn't look like a kitchen is PERFECT 👌👌👌👌
We just redid our kitchen and put in a 36" (.9M) single-bowl sink - against the advice of our kitchen consultant - because I use a lot of big pots and pans. LIFE CHANGING. If you have the room, go big. You won't regret it!
The more drawers you put in your kitchen the happier you will be when trying to access items, seeing what you have in the space and as you get older you don’t have to sit on the floor with your head in a space to get to something or to clean. It is also time efficient to put things away easily.
The thing that made my kitchen feel not like a kitchen was mixing materials (white cabinets, walnut island, two kinds of marble). The other thing I would highly suggest is large drawers in the island/lower cabinets for pots and pans, and even pantry items. Lower cabinets are such a pain to get things in and out.
I am married to a cabinet maker and I have drawers only in the lower part of my kitchen! They are so much better and more useable than cupboards. Can be structured so they are always neat and tidy and you can find things at a glance. And I agree using different materials gives the kitchen less of a "kitchen" feel. We used "gloss" bamboo laminate flooring as a splashback behind our cooking area. So much cleaner and better than tiles. And hard wearing too. It's been there 6 years and its still looks as shiny and glossy as it did the day it went up
From someone who had a boutique hotel with a small restaurant: I think it will be more practical to move the 'wash-up area' out of the island to a back wall with lots of counter space to put dirty dishes - maybe to the left of the cooker? Having dirty dishes pile up on the island counter while you still have to prep and in full sight of guests, can look messy and cluttered ... just my 2 cents worth ...
One tip: Where ever you place the coffee station, Remember you will have to travel across the kitchen for water. I'd suggest a small sink and faucet with your coffee station. Or place the sink closer. The fridge will need to be conveniently close as well. Tip two: you could save money by deconstructing beautiful old furniture pieces to add character. Tip three: try and make your island as deep as possible. You need space not only for prep but for plating up. Tip four: practice run how you want your kitchen to function. I loved that designers sent in sample plans. It was a great way to see what you don't want and what you do need. 😁 Im looking forward to the fun👍🦘
As a former kitchen designer, it always helps to have an outsider take a look. You guys are too close to the situation to really see what will work. Good luck with the project. I know the end result will honor both your ideas. Hugs from the US
You need to have some raised beds built. It is much easier to keep weeds out of raised beds. Also the soil in a raised bed is lofty so root vegetables grow larger. Yes, thinning is a must with lots of root vegetables, along with weeding.
Simmer here, it wasn´t. Will Wright, cofounder of maxis lost his home in a fire and that got him thinking about making a game about daily life, tragedy, and building back. It was never something meant for architects, he was already a game developer. That´s probably why it was so easy to get a fire in TS1, why the flames were so realistic and why there were actually screams when a sim died in a fire (they don´t scream anymore)
As mentioned above, he was inspired after losing his home. But it was initially just supposed to be about building and architecture. The people, the sims, were just there to judge your buildings. However they quickly realised it would be more exciting to control the people, so they switched focus to be more about life than architecture.
About the kitchen, on the very practical side (and in the details), think of the drawers and doors handles...image you are baking, hands covered in flour, you do need a handle that will not mess-up the front of the drawer/door. Same for the faucet, think about a faucet that your are able to activate with your elbow if your hands have touched raw meat/poultry (and stay away from the touchless system). Also, because your gas burners emit high heat (and sometimes food residue may splash), a ceramic back-splash is not the most hygienic (difficult to clean the grout and high heat may sometime result in cracks). Finally, as your kitchen will serve to prepare meals for guests and will be akin a professional kitchen, you may find useful design principles looking back in history to the great Auguste Escoffier (there are numerous documentaries on TH-cam). The principles set-out by Chef Escoffier are now used worldwide and are key in how professional kitchens operate to get food out to your table especially when the heat is on and the orders are coming in fast and furious.
Keep the kitchen family oriented on one side, and professional on the other. This IS your business so the more of a “restaurant layout” the better. Thanks for the laughs in French!! See you both next week! 😍
As an architect I can tell you that it has been always a challenge since the implementation of computer to present projects readable for clients. As you can see, each program represents the proposed design differently. You should allow the designers to explain to you. Why, materials, objectives, goals. You can’t make a decision by just looking at somewhat unexpressed enough drawings. The kitchen is a complex room. It involves cooking, cleaning, eating, serving, etc. I do think it should maintain the feeling we all know that of coming in the winter for a toast and coffee or to seat by warm of the oven. Don’t forget about the atmosphere.
If you use quartz countertops then you will have durable surfaces always. For the orange you love so much ... the copper pots and pans would serve the purpose. Top appliances are a must if you can afford them. Using tiles as a back splash behind the stove and up to the hood exhaust over the stove saves your walls. I love that you both are devoted to good design and are restoring this amazing home. Best wishes. Nancy Huston USA
“Do you think that’s doable? Yes. Maybe.” A valuable lesson in verbal gymnastics. It’s good to know that with Nathan in school for much of the time we can now look forward to conversations with Benoit. So many VERY professional proposals for your kitchen design as well as committed amateurs with a vision. A really impressive response to your clever video solicitation.
I am currently binge watching their episodes and I just have to say they are so funny! Ive laughed so much at their silliness. Not to mentioned how completely talented they are. New Favorite channel!
The “kitchen that doesn’t look like a kitchen” and will look good with the period style of your beautiful Château means every cabinet needs to look like a piece of French furniture. Nothing worse than going into a beautiful old home renovated perfectly to the time period only to find a modern kitchen. A large old French farmhouse table with bottom shelf would look fabulous as the island.
You can see the outside wall a little bit thru the window near the fridge. Some herbs or potted colour would lovely on the wall, could see them anywhere from the kitchen.. Perhaps Philip's orange, on the outside!! Funny ha ha..
As someone who has zero counter space… get as much as you can. I don’t know how many counter top appliances you have but I have to keep mine on a baker’s rack against the wall because there is almost zero in my decent sized kitchen. They decided to do open plan wasting an entire wall that could have had drawers, of which I have 1 normal and 2 tiny, and cupboards with the same numbers. We have to use the linen closet down the hall near the bathroom to store dry and canned goods. I think the open shelving also makes the kitchen look less cluttered in your design. Whatever you choose is going to be amazing and I’m so impressed at the talent of your viewers! Congrats everyone!
WOW, a lot of talented and generous people presented some fantastic designs for the kitchen! One of the advantages of having the cabinets go to the top of the ceiling is that you can hide all the piping and and electrical wiring in those cabinets. Deep drawers and slide out bottom shelving are a must. Can't wait to see the design you settle on and the actual build process.
Having a piece of furniture with built in dishwasher & sink between the windows sounds great and having prep sink and wash up sink separate is such a great idea.
For the garden, Carrots only really grow long and big in sandy soil, you could probably get bigger carrots next year by filling a container with 50-60% sand and mixing that with some soil or compost. And I think your celery is very thin because it looks like it's the variety that produces Celeriac (celery root) which is a big starchy root kinda like a turnip, but softer and tastes sort of peppery and herbal like celery. Celeriac is amazing with or instead of potatoes in stew because it's less likely to fall apart and has a lot more flavor.
Anna. It is quite extraordinary and admirable how you manage to find the time and energy to be a mother, a cook , help run a B&B, renovate a chateau and partake in the making of professional youtube videos.
I think moving the door to the centre of the wall is the game changer....it will create balance and I think the door needs to be a grand double door, single door will look silly...double doors are the way to go.
Drawers, drawers, drawers are so efficient so use whenever possible. Hopefully they can look the historic age you decide upon. Take the time to get what you want. Sleep on it and go over choices again.
For my 2 cents worth of input: Love the idea of moving the door to the middle of the wall and moving the sink to the wall with the dishwasher and making sure it is large enough to accommodate large oven pans. Even better if the sink has a window over it to look out. The shorter benches are nice also. I agree that having a solid cabinet on the oven wall next to the door is awkward. I also liked the cabinets not going all the way to the door or ends of the wall with the door moved to the middle. And I like mixing pieces of furniture in with cabinetry to have the kitchen feel more evolved over time and retain its French feeling. Absolutely raise the height of the chimney mantle but keep it as a feature.
So COOL that so many people took the time to share their ideas and how it helped you work through your ideas!!! I live the way the whole world loves you.
I understand totally what you mean by it not looking like a kitchen. I grew up on a farm and the kitchen was where not only food was cooked and eaten but where important paperwork was completed, homework done, friends were entertained, animals cared for (yes they were brought back to life in the open AGA), clothes dried and a million and one other things too as it was the only constantly warm room! It needs to feel like the heart of your home, and yet as you open your home to others, it also needs to feel like your sanctuary too. I like Philipp’s idea of a soft chair or chaise too. x
I like Harriet's idea of turning things 90 degrees. I also like Faisal's and Ne Ne's ideas, which have a similar "library" type look. One thing no one addressed fully (Ne Ne did a little bit ) - how much head space can be achieved in the chimney/old fireplace? If you can't reach to a back burner without whacking your forehead, a cooker can't go in there. I'm so glad you've gotten so much help. With such a huge space, the more planning, the better!
Make sure you buy Hildegard a wonderful gift when you get 100,000 subscribers- which will be soon no doubt- and she will probably forgive you for not maintaining her garden over the summer. Those tiny carrots are always the most tasty. My father was a talented Gardener but he hated to weed. Consequently I ate a lot of those little carrots as a child. They were my favourites. Happy to see all your kitchen options. Obviously all the Good Vibes you send out on your TH-cam channel is coming back to you with all these wonderful designs
In America we love large sinks and drawers for all lower cabinets. Using different materials would give the room a historically appropriate look like it evolved over a large period of time. Taking the island and creating it as a piece of furniture and the other cabinets as well would give it an old world charm that you will love for years. Good luck, looking forward to see your choices.
Hi Anna and Philip, I am as impressed as you with your viewers ideas. I don’t have the matching skills, but would like to add my practical tips. We built a new house about 7 years ago with a “you beaut” kitchen. In your design I am all for having an empty shelf or space on your left as you enter the kitchen. This is the temporary space to put the car keys, handbag, children’s paintings and yes, video equipment! A clear space for dumping then clearing. Here in Australia the trend is for all pull out drawers, and I confess, I just love them. Easy access to your kitchen goods, easy to clean! Also, Are water filter taps the “thing”? I am really sorry that we hadn’t installed one! Place it right next to your sink for the big water bottles to be filled. You will find the inside of your kettle so clean after using this filter. I am a fan of the coffee station to be off to the side, and I feel that maybe a small bar fridge could be near that. It keeps the dispensing items together - also keeps Philip being underfoot? A small sink here too. A space for trays! Large spaces for rubbish! Something that occurred to me as I was trying to work out someone else’s plan that you were showing. It looked like some mechanical thing in the wall; and I was reminded of a dumb waiter! So my proposal is a dumb waiter installed to the right of the kitchen door. I believe this would erupt (?) into an empty room upstairs? As you guys are living my dream, I thought I would share some of them with you! You have a winning formula just by being the family you are. Regards, Susan at Hobart.
I watch a lot of other chateau vloggers but I like yours a lot because of the humor! I like seeing how you and your husband relate to each other with humor...
Lucky you getting free designs from architects too. Actually the one with the ladder was quite exquisite and offer some lovely storage options. Check out Murpjy wall options whereby cabinets are built in and hidden . Remote controlled options as well. Nicely done! When it comes down to it never ask someone else to design for you because they are not the ones who will have to live with it. Kitchen is the most intimate and most used room should also be the cosiest and best strategized. Best of Luck choosing!
This is such an exciting project. I am so very touched tha sot many people put so much time , consideration and creativity I to their designs. So many talented people out there. This kit hen is going to be beautiful.
Yes, you asked, people spent time on it and all you get is" oh, too much detail, too many ideas .Husband is very polite to include René's design.By now I hope you understood the most important is to have a table where the natural light, the view and the doors to the outside are.
I just signed up for skillshare so thank you for the free month. I’m looking forward to using it. I love the way people sent you drawings for your kitchen! It’s going to be a fun project but maybe not so much fun trying to function without a kitchen for several months. Philipp, it’s great that your mom has returned. You both have lovely parents who like working in the garden and how fortunate is that! 💕
I just want to say as a graphic designer I really appreciate your elegant use of Futura and the lovely yellow color it is! You two are so fun to watch and I love this dreamy series.
Hello from L.A. California😎 the thing that I have learned over the years and the houses that I've lived in is that I love a kitchen where I can look out windows while I'm washing dishes , I have learned that I hate facing a wall while working ....that would be my biggest issue in kitchen design ...but that's just me 🤷♀️
That was really fun to see all the designs for the kitchen .What ever you pick will be Gorgeous. All the carrots would make a Roasted glazed carrots delicious.!!!!
I love the last design's color scheme because I feel very much that the drawer and cabinet pulls could easily be set to match the copper of the pots and that would pop beautifully against a darker blue while still being very subtle and tasteful.
I like Harriet’s layout, Maria’s cooker space, Faisal’s overall design and the last person’s glass cupboards up to the ceiling. Good luck deciding. Can’t wait to see the end result!
Open shelving: dust and grease, from cooking. Glas vitrens as well. Storing to the celing is good and don’t make the room narrow. Some stuff is out of the way you need, but not offen. You can Store a stepleadder in the cupboard too.
In the fall we use a mulching lawnmower to grind up the leaves then spread that over the garden to help keep down the weeds (less racking and it’s good for worms and insects).
Wow, some of your subscribers are really invested into your kitchen! Certainly given you plenty of food for thought. Going to be interesting to see which direction you go in. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, try that gardening method. The no dig no till method is wonderful. I had a brand new garden this year. Charles Downing method as I watched his vlogs and learned a lot.
Brilliant idea to have people assist with the kitchen planning. So many helpful ideas. Anna, you are so right about mixing materials and incorporating furniture (antiques) to make it feel unfitted and homey (homely) for you British. This will be fun, for us. Lots of hard work for you. Thanks
Yea! Put storage to the ceilings!!! You will want will the room for things! We did and have no regrets. Also, cabinets that do not go all the way trap greasy dust on top.
So many wonderful ideas. I liked moving the door to the center, and turning the island the other way. ... room for corner chair as well. Wonderful people to do all of this.
Yikes! So many great ideas. You have your work cut out to boil it down into a final plan. A testament to who you are as people that so many gifted followers took the time to make such comprehensive designs. Hildegarde has arrived just in time to alleviate some pressure!
It's not even my residence and I am so keen to see your final choices that will create a timeless, modern kitchen that doesn't look like a kitchen! Perhaps the kitchen lamp that Anna wants could have some orange on it, for a pop of color (I'm trying to help you out Phillip!). Whatever you both decide, with Anna's impeccable taste and the outstanding bones of the chateau, the results will be stunning and pass the test of time.
Just an idea! Two La Cornu cookers side by side in the original chimney, double sinks by the side, a marble island with an overhang with pots and pans and cutlery underneath and two dishwashers, china and glass in a pantry, a second pantry cupboard for spice and food and of course, a little coffee station with all the mugs and cups tucked away and a lamp. A simple long ledge for decoration for your platters/books above the stoves. Final touch, a lovely Delft tiled mural above the cookers with some copper pans. Any room if possible for a long trestle table and chairs, paintings and a TV! Voila! Theme in pale blue and effortless Chateau as if it has always been like that!!! You will need an adjoining room for evolutionary overflow!
The raspberries look great and the carrots. I'd say it is the variety of the carrots that they are small. Love the drone footage. Lol, lol ... Phillip is so funny, keep him in check Anna. lol Can't wait to see your final design ... so much fun.

No one ever designs a junk drawer but everyone has one and it's always in the kitchen.
In my kitchen renovation I used mostly drawers in the lowers. Now I wish that the two lower cupboards that have shelves were also drawers.
@@alex0589 I have only 3 drawers in my kitchen so no room for a junk drawer!
I already can’t really use the further back areas of my under counter cupboards, tiny as they are. It’s too much for my back.
Maybe a full size, bright orange wine fridge here or there...
Drawers are always my choice. Open drawer it’s there, open cabinet, bend down look in back because that’s where the pot you want always is. LOL

THanks for the tip. not easy though as we don't have that much space
Yes, also doesnt mean the island doesnt have a sink too!
@@alex0589 yes , and i hope they put a farm house sink in somewhere. Thats my favorite thing in my kitchen.
Yes Rene’s design was spot on. I totally agree that sinks on islands always look messy.
So many good ideas but with Anna’s sense of style she should go with her instincts and it will be beautiful.
Remember open shelves means a lot of dust
SO TRUE!!
Yes, it seems to be popular now but so true, dust and bugs etc.
and grease.
Yes, so much dust! And if they ever get a pet, like a cat the pet will definitely use open shelving as a place to nap, and push out stemware!
I always think that also!
I cant believe how many people made plans just like that, you two are very lucky. I like the last ones
One tip: Where ever you place the coffee station, Remember you will have to travel across the kitchen for water.

I TOTALLY LOVE the last picture! That is a gorgeous kitchen!
philip doesnt think twice about resorting to blackmail to get what he wants .i love it lol.
😂🤣😅🍺 Prost!
He’s italian, maybe he knows people who know people.....!!

Can the door be moved? Do we know what is on the other side?
Loved the little skit when talking about the sponsor :D
I LOVED seeing you chase your husband across the yard with the branch that was sooo funny!!!! man he's a fast runner.
Top kitchens are definitely Martin - purely for the thrill of finding out what the center scribble is and Rene - great looking rendering!!
At last: a chateau vlog where one can hear French!!!!!!!!!!!
That was the smoothest most effortless Skillshare cut in ad I have ever seen bravo to both of you
This is the best renaovation of a chataeu i have ever seen of all the videos in internet
How very kind of people to take their time and effort to create these designs xxxxx
I love the sarcastic but loving humor so much.
I just want to say as a graphic designer I really appreciate your elegant use of Futura and the lovely yellow color it is! You two are so fun to watch and I love this dreamy series.
Glad you like it! I'm long time fan of Futura and Verlag
The last kitchen looked the nicest , love all your vlogs
Hello from L.A. California😎 the thing that I have learned over the years and the houses that I've lived in is that I love a kitchen where I can look out windows while I'm washing dishes , I have learned that I hate facing a wall while working ....that would be my biggest issue in kitchen design ...but that's just me 🤷♀️
That was really fun to see all the designs for the kitchen .What ever you pick will be Gorgeous. All the carrots would make a Roasted glazed carrots delicious.!!!!
What fantastic ideas! And so kind to give shout outs to them all.
Hildegard are so lovely!
she is :)
Best skillshare ad I have seen!
I love the last design's color scheme because I feel very much that the drawer and cabinet pulls could easily be set to match the copper of the pots and that would pop beautifully against a darker blue while still being very subtle and tasteful.
It is so fitting that the shape of your front lawn resembles a heart 🤗
I like Harriet’s layout, Maria’s cooker space, Faisal’s overall design and the last person’s glass cupboards up to the ceiling. Good luck deciding. Can’t wait to see the end result!
Magazines are such another good idea so you can see what you like and what not ...its obvious I know ..but it helps......good luck 😊
You are the only chateau site that my husband subscribes to.. He loves the Princes Prince of Trenches.
I loved this video. Lots of unexpected belly laughs while watching.
I love your relationship and how you play off each other. Great entertainment. One day Anna you will catch him. Lol
Absolutely love this couple they are talented, articulate, amusing and hard working. Fabulous channel wouldn’t miss a posting 👍
The drone footage is simply dreamy. The Influencer is a master videographer.
Brilliant idea to have people assist with the kitchen planning. So many helpful ideas. Anna, you are so right about mixing materials and incorporating furniture (antiques) to make it feel unfitted and homey (homely) for you British. This will be fun, for us. Lots of hard work for you. Thanks
Wow the effort from all the viewers is amazing!
I do love when there is some color. Navy blue is beautiful !
Those designs were fantastic, I'm glad I'm not the one having to choose. Perhaps puck out the areas you like and cut and paste🤔😀
Love all the ideas but the last one was my favourite, however it has to work for you. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Enjoy 🇨🇦
Yea! Put storage to the ceilings!!! You will want will the room for things! We did and have no regrets. Also, cabinets that do not go all the way trap greasy dust on top.
Masarte/Maria was awesome! I gasped. Faisal with moving the door in the middle was awesome. Last one was amazing tho.
Amazing supporters who kindly sent all their amazings kitchen designs.😍
So many wonderful ideas. I liked moving the door to the center, and turning the island the other way. ... room for corner chair as well. Wonderful people to do all of this.
I LOVE dimmer switches to creat mood lighting at night
Yikes! So many great ideas. You have your work cut out to boil it down into a final plan. A testament to who you are as people that so many gifted followers took the time to make such comprehensive designs. Hildegarde has arrived just in time to alleviate some pressure!
So true!
I really liked the last design that you showed.
The last one was absolutely amazing!
I am in! Your new patreon has been intrigued for months. Looking forward to the journey.
Some really beautiful designs! One thing I really like was the clean up to one side, sink, dishwasher. I think you would find that really efficient.
So many talented designers. I loved the last one.
Di G, that sounds wonderful!
These designs are fabulous! How over the top kind are these talented people! Whatever you choose is going to be remarkable !
The raspberries look great and the carrots. I'd say it is the variety of the carrots that they are small. Love the drone footage. Lol, lol ... Phillip is so funny, keep him in check Anna. lol
Can't wait to see your final design ... so much fun.
Thanks so much
